It was fully renovated in 2017 with a contemporary design, while boasting many original architectural features, including 12 foot high ceilings. The original structure was built around 1885 at the prominent corner of N. Claiborne Avenue and Basin Street(previously Orleans Avenue). In 1907, Dr. Emile J. LaBranche Sr. opened LaBranche’s Drug Store which was operated on the ground level of the property, with living quarters above. It was a fully owned and operated African American business, which boasted both Caucasian and African American clientele. The pharmacy, which was among the pioneering businesses in the area, provided opportunities for other medical doctors to start their careers. Over the years the property has served many different uses. Beginning the the fall of 2017, the property received a full historic renovation; returning the building to its original grandeur.
