Kid-friendly vacation rentals in Orkney

Nice place, Great view across the bay, Great host, Place was very clean and tidy and would certainly recommend. Plenty of parking space. We certainly had a lovely week at this property.

Lounge/kitchen and bathroom downstairs, double bedroom upstairs, neat small garden and deck. Bright and airy, just like in the photos. Admirably clean throughout. Comfortable bed. Welcoming selection of books and games, also nice welcome pack of goodies. All kitchen staples were there, so no need to run to the shops for salt or Fairy liquid! The weather forecast was iffy, so Cathy provided logs and kindling for the log burner. It turned out that they were not needed: the heat pump did its job. We loved the cottage and St Margaret’s Hope, a small sleepy village near the ferry terminal. The cottage might not be suitable for more elderly guests as the stairs up to the bedroom are quite steep. The village might be too small and sleepy for others. Top marks for us though.

Evelyn’s cottage was excellent. Exactly as described, in a great location, with comfortable beds and living room and well equipped bathroom and kitchen. This is exactly what we wanted and we had a great week’s stay there. Thank you Evelyn.

Karen's place was exquisitely clean and comfortable. It is tastefully furnished and decorated and fully equipped, even having sharp knives and a pair of scissors that actually cut a tin opener that works and kitchen scales! Karen provided us with very helpful advice on what to see and do and was always quick to respond. We really appreciated the friendly welcoming reception. A lovely touch was coming up to meet us and to say goodbye at the end of our stay. What a treat it was to stay at "Hooveth"!

Outstanding stay. Cozy and sing, generously stocked with milk, cereal, coffee, tea, bread, jam, and butter. Wonderful stopping point for those exploring Westray and Papa Westray.

This was our families favorite place to stay. Beautiful area, house has lots of amenities, central to the places we wanted to visit, and quiet. Sharon was a great host. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone staying in the Orkneys.

Beautiful space. As a family we enjoyed cooking together & playing games in the evening. The hot tub was great, we used it everyday. The views from every room were amazing and it was so peaceful and tranquil. Local neighbours farmers and the wildlife were all very friendly. It was welcoming from the moment we arrived. Ideally located to visit places and a short drive into Kirkwall. Would highly recommend and define visit again. Very friendly and accommodating hosts!

Central but quiet, lovely cosy wee place. Decent parking was tricky to find maybe add it into welcome pack but she was amazing when we locked ourselves out with keys and my phone in flat!

The apartment is a gem. So clean, comfortable, well equipped and in a great location. Magical views out to sea . Really comfortable bed. Great communication from Yuka with really helpful local info and directions. Will definately be back.

The flat is perfect for a visit to Kirkwall . The location means you can walk everywhere. It was clean comfortable and warm. Having the washing machine was very useful and access to a washing line outside also. Inspite of the central location we found it very quiet.

It was wonderful staying at Jean’s place. Beautiful and cozy home away from home. Attention to details is worth calling out and we would highly recommend this stay at Jean’s. Jean and Donald are so kind. So I would want to not consider them just hosts but super hosts.

A great location close to the ferry terminal which was ideal! Very picturesque location with amazing views over the bay and a couple of shops and restaurant in walking distance. The flat was exactly as expected from the description and was perfect for us 🙂

Scarva is truly the most wonderful Airbnb that we have ever stayed in! It’s location in Kirkwall is perfect… The cathedral is right down the street and there is a market as well as a specialty market right across the road. The apartment itself is decorated beyond words and feels like home. We cooked at home and relaxed in the beautiful living room after full days of exploring the islands. You will not be sorry… Book this place before it gets booked up!

Lovely location right where the action is. Kitchenette was functional and we were able to do some cooking. Bedroom had a window which was bright but Tara was quick to get it taped up so that the room was nice and dark for sleep (really bright in summer!). Very helpful in helping us get last min car rental too. Thanks for a very memorable stay in the Orkneys!

Excellent accommodation a small distance outside Stromness but worth it for the location and views. A walkable distance from Co-op and Ferry. Well equipped and very comfortable

Fantastic! I’ve stayed in a lot of different types of accommodation over the years but this was the best. Immaculate in every way and very thoughtfully presented. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or go back to this property. Ten minute walk to the town centre. Friendly host next door but didn’t intrude. You won’t be disappointed!

Leona's place was spacious and comfortable, very thoughtfully set up for travelers. Kitchen was equipped (we really do use the kitchen when we travel) and even had a few spices which was nice. Great view from kitchen and deck across the Loch of Stenness to see from afar the Ring of Brodgar standing stones. The location! Really great, walkably close to a few historic sites -- standing stones and ring of brodgar and the maeshowe cairn. And also next to a small supplies shop which was handy. And best of all -- a bus stop that runs to Stromness and to Kirkwall about every hour. Can also bus to some of the main sites. Leona met us and got us settled in, was a great stay. Thanks!

Great apartment. Very clean and well appointed. Great location in that you were very close to everything the only downside was that on the Saturday night the noise from the young folk waiting for taxis was horrendous. Between 12-2 am none of us could sleep and that was with the windows shut and earplugs in . But for the noise on the Saturday night I would have scored higher.

We absolutely loved Inner Magnolia! So quiet and peaceful and such great hosts. It has a very large bedroom and lounge and loved all the environmental cleaning products. We will definitely go back!

This cosy flat is in a central Kirkwall location in an interesting old building. Everything was just right- clean and comfortable. Really excellent bathroom & loads of hot water John, friendly and approachable was right there if we needed anything.

This apartment was in a perfect location and very quiet. The building has history which we always enjoy finding out about. We spent a beautiful 8 nights on Orkney. We didn’t have a car and it was easy to get around using tours, public transportation or taxis.

We enjoyed our stay. The apartment was clean and very comfortable, well kitted, spacious. Great location!
