Cosy cottage with stunning views - Island of Hoy

JamesRating, 5 stars10 months ago
Linda’s Place is a lovely former family home in a stunning position on the sea front at Longhope on the island of Hoy. It’s a family home with a very comfy, if somewhat old-fashioned vibe. Don’t expect 5 star accommodation but do expect a warm home well supplied with kitchen equipment and welcoming shortbread (very yummy) and fresh milk in the fridge. There are two boxes of toy,s /games for children of all ages plus a large DVD film collection for showing on the TV , Linda supplies bedding and towels. The bathroom has a shower over the bath. For a rural property the water supply water supply is fab but a tip is to stagger bath/shower times as the hot water sometime can run cool if excessive demand is placed on it. There is a garden with a washing line over the road from the cottage. The next door neighbour is a brilliant neighbour and all locals we met were friendly and very helpful. We two stayed in the first week of August 24 finding the village shop to have comprehensive supply.

New: Cantick Head Lighthouse Cottage

AnnaRating, 5 stars1 month ago
This is a really unique stay and I spent a good part of my time there looking out at sea wondering when I would next be able to come back. So that should tell you how much I liked it! It’s at a lighthouse, so as you would expect, it’s at the end of a long road (which is very bumpy in places!). Then you get to the cosy house, with a wood fire, and well stocked kitchen with welcome treats. Alan is very friendly as are the dogs and the chickens! My child loved feeding them every morning. The fresh farm eggs were such a treat. Cantick Head itself is stunning and we loved being in the hot tub and sauna. Note to other guests- all these are wood powered so stock up on firewood before you arrive (you can buy bags at the shop next to the Lyness ferry). My mum took one of the bikes out and we all enjoyed walking the coastline. This is a special stay, don’t hesitate to book!

Private room with en-suite is always a great feature for a couple. Loved being on the water, and being able to explore right out the front door. Only issue is we didn't have enough time there. Thanks Shona for a great stay.

Seafront Anderson's Harbour Cottages, 40 Alfred St

JennyRating, 5 stars7 months ago
The Cottage was a home away from from home. Rosemary was an amazing host and provided us with valuable local knowledge prior to our trip. The cottage was beautifully presented; so warm and the amenities throughout were amazing and abundant. The highlight was the gorgeous little window overlooking the seafront and the history of the cottage. Highly recommend!

Seafront Anderson's Harbour Cottages, 4 South End

Perfect location and great view from the lounge and top bedroom. Orkney and Stromness is full of very friendly people, happy to have a chat in the street and local pub. It was quite difficult finding places to eat, it was March and a lot of places are closed for the winter. The fishmonger had closed down last December with was quite disappointing, really because we could have cooked amazing food in the kitchen of the house. We will definitely visit Orkney again!

Shore house on Seafront-Vindlyse, St Mary's

Easy to get to everywhere from here and lovely local dog walks just across the road. This place is wonderful for dogs, even a nice spot for their beds in the utility room. Bert greeted us with a wonderful platter of cheese and biscuits and lovely fresh flowers, so kind.

Ayres Rock Hostel, Pods and Campsite on Sanday, Orkney is an absolute gem, a very special place to stay, with views out over the sea and wonderful sunsets. Claire was so welcoming and thoughtful and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed (thank you). The accommodation was in a lovely traditional white washed building - cosy, comfortable and immaculately and well set out. Sanday is a treasure, so peaceful. I especially loved Sandquoy out towards the lighthouse with its incredible long white beaches and aquamarine sea. Chambered Cairns and Brochs to explore and the cliff line walk south of Ayres Rock with natural arches and seabirds was amazing too. Thank you so much Claire for a wonderful , relaxing and memorable stay, I can highly recommend Ayres Rock and hope to be back again soon.

Lovely comfortable and cosy room with plenty of space and very quiet. Our evening meals were top quality as was the breakfast. There's a well stocked bar and everyone is very friendly. We would really liked to have stayed longer.

Luxury seaside harbour house retreat with own pier

JohnRating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
A brilliant waterfront house in Stromness. Great location, very pretty outlook and well furnished and decorated, and comfortable throughout. Lovely big boat shed games room and terrace right by the water. Stromness was lovely. Lots to see and do in Orkney with many famous historic sites nearby. I’d recommend early booking of The Ferry Inn or Adam’s Place, they have restricted hours and can get fully booked. Flori cafe for coffee or bagels was great, again limited opening times. Couldn’t fault the booking and payment process. All instructions on the Airbnb listing were very well set out. The accommodation suited us perfectly, three of us on motorbikes but the place would also be brilliant for a family with children.

The Legion, self catering in St Margaret's Hope

LisaRating, 5 stars8 months ago
We were so comfortable at The Legion, I don't think it could have been better and Angela could not have been kinder. Two local shops and Murray Arms looked after us as well - you need to book to be certain of eating there ... freshest and sweetest seafood. Good base to see South Ronaldsay, explore Mainland and took ferry from Tingwall to Rousay, bookcase with plenty of maps and guides. Peaceful, welcoming and quiet home where you get used to seeing island life go by. Wonderful!

A great location close to the ferry terminal which was ideal! Very picturesque location with amazing views over the bay and a couple of shops and restaurant in walking distance. The flat was exactly as expected from the description and was perfect for us 🙂
