Absolutely magical. A place to get away completely and connect with nature, while having the quaint downtown of Bar Harbor close by. You will have stars in your eyes as you walk through their forest full of wooden creations and cozy huts. If you're a little rugged, adventurous and appreciate the simple life- this is your spot!

One friend and I stayed at Ferncrest to attend a local wedding. We were delighted the moment we set foot in this charming apartment. The thought and care this host, Bruce, brings to every nook and cranny add to the inside comfort and the outside beauty. Everything we were looking for in a bnb was found in this space; it’s a gem. Bruce was informative and in communication both before and during our stay. We relaxed, enjoyed, and with no hesitation look forward to coming back.

Bruce’s accommodations were perfect for 2-4 people. It was clean and had everything you needed. Bruce is helpful and has a “bag” of info. Would go back!

This apartment is truly on the quiet side of MDI. Not hard to find, but so different than what you see in Bar Harbor. It’s a well furnished apartment with stylish touches. The kitchen was well appointed, and the half refrigerator was big enough for vacationers’ needs. Bruce was away when we arrived, but arranged for another NPS staff person, Susan, to acquaint us with the apartment and to give us hiking suggestions. She went all out. The best thing was how quiet and dark it was at night.

Fernwood is a terrific place to stay when visiting Mount Desert Island. It is quiet, comfortable, stocked with interesting books on MDI and in a great location, away from the crowds. Bruce is very accommodating as well. We look forward to our next visit.

We really enjoyed our stay at Ferncrest. It was a great place to unplug and truly enjoy the benefits of nature. Bruce was a perfect host - responsive, flexible and knowledgeable of the area. We especially appreciated the maps of Acadia, and Bruce’s flexibility in allowing us to check out late. Overall a wonderful experience.

Cozy space and great location! Equidistant from Bar Harbor and Acadia. Bruce offered some great recommendations and communicated well leading up to the trip. Very friendly and sweet, while still respecting the privacy of a cheesy couple on their anniversary getaway.

Nancy and Pat were great hosts! It was a fun experience staying in a tiny house. Now I can say I've done it. It was great to be remote, but had wifi and some restaurants around to go. Otherwise we'd trek into Bar Harbor. The house was great, clean, and the hosts were wonderful. The compost toilet isn't something I'd choose for my house, but it was fine for a few days. Great stay!

Had a great time staying at the Petite Retreat. Nancy goes out of her way to make sure her guests have everything they need for their stay. The house is in a great location on the Quiet Side of MDI allowing you to escape the crowds of Bar Harbor. The house is a convenient distance from Acadia and Bar Harbor as well as plenty of attractions on the Southwest Harbor, and was a great place to come back to for a campfire at night. Would highly recommend staying here.

My boyfriend and I loved staying here. It felt very private and it offered a lovely escape from the crowds of people around Acadia and Bar Harbor that we encountered during the day. Nancy was a great host and offered lots of info about places to see and things to do. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to check out the area

We loved this Petite Retreat! This tiny home was just right for our stay while exploring Acadia and MDI. Nancy has appointed her place very nicely for a comfortable stay. The compost toilet is interesting and had some odor at times, but there were things provided to help with it and we managed it just fine. It just took some getting used to. Overall, It was nice to be on the quiet side at the end of the day. We hiked several trails on the island but our favorite was on the quiet side, don’t miss Wonderland Trail and Ships Harbour Trail! We also visited the lighthouse, Southwest Harbor, and ate at Thurstons and Beals(better?). We drove Cadillac Mountain twice (amazing views), hiked around Jordon Pond and up the South Bubble (hard but fun). Don’t miss eating Popovers at Jordon Pond House, sit outside if you can! We also hiked some carriage roads, enjoyed Bar Harbor, drove through Northeast Harbor and went on the Acadia by Sea boat tour. Everything was worth the time! Can’t wait to return next year!

We enjoyed being in the tiny house - it was very cosy (especially the bed!) and so well equipped!

The petite retreat is a great tiny house! The home was close to everything we wanted to see and do, and we were provided with a park pass for our stay. Nancy is also great at communicating and checking in with you during your stay. I would recommended this home to anyone looking to visit Maine

We had a lovely stay at the Petite Retreat, a perfect location to explore Acadia and MDI. Nancy was a great host - kind, hospitable, responsive and went above and beyond with conveniences we would need during our stay. The only thing that set us back a bit was the compost toilet - that takes some getting used to! Otherwise a wonderful stay.

The tiny house was a great alternative to a hotel room. It was the perfect amount of space for two people just looking to lay their heads down at night. The large bed is so comfortable! Nancy was a great host and provided a binder full of all the information one would need, including details and instructions for the house and excellent tips and recommendations for area attractions. The fire pit and porch were very enjoyable as well.

This is our second visit to this home and hope it won’t be our last. Peaceful idyllic location right by a lovely lake. Old home with new addition that is well maintained and kept spotless. And well supplied. Host is fantastic and responsive. Couldn’t have had a better time here on “the quiet side” of Mount Desert Island.

I returned back to this home after 10 years. It had some really great updates, including a second bathroom. It's easy to find and being on the Quietside of MDI is so special. This privacy of this home is what is so appealing. If you are looking for the quintessential Maine camp, you've found it. If you want modern luxuries, this isn't for you. My family spent nearly two weeks here and would have spent another week if we could have. We picked apples from the trees on the property, saw butterflies hatching, meandered down to the lake, went on daily hikes, found as many lobster pounds as we could (Thurston's is the family favorite), and just relaxed. It's a great home for doing a whole lot of nothing. We hope to return next year.

Great location on the quiet side of the island. We saw deer every day grazing in the field and bald eagles on the lake. There is a brand new tandem canoe that the owner let’s you use to explore the lake, we did not see any power boats which was great, we also brought a kayak and canoe of our one so we could all get on the water. We were two couples and a teenage boy, two full bathrooms so each couple had their own bathroom. We cooked our own meals, got groceries in Bar Harbor which has a big Hannafords which has everything you need. I would rent this place again, easy check in and quick response by the owner. Also there are caretakers who manage the property they were there in 10 minutes to take away the trash that was left behind from the weekly pick up. We didn’t realize our recycling had to be bagged.

Magical two weeks! From the serene, quiet lake to the gorgeous sunrises rising up over the mountain each morning we couldn’t have asked for a more peaceful respite to spend our time in MDI. The house accommodated our family of 5 plus dog perfectly. We enjoyed lounging on the deck after lake swims & plenty of space inside to hangout in the light filled living room. We look forward to staying here again on our annual summer trip to MDI.

This is a breathtakingly beautiful farm house in a great location. It offered a quiet and relaxing retreat while at the same time was very close to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The neighbors were closer than I would have hoped, which wouldn't have mattered if they were not there. They were quiet and wouldn't bother anyone, except they do have a dog, which roamed freely on the property including the deck of the house. It was a sweet dog, but caused a challenge for us having our dogs there. Other than that, it was a perfect week we will never forget!!

Lovely home with a mix of historical charm along with modern conveniences. We appreciated the large updated master bedroom and bathroom. The beds were comfortable. We had everything we needed. The house was exactly as described. Host was quick to respond to any questions we had. Would love to stay again.

There is nothing like waking up to a Beautiful Mountain View! Great place to rest, relax and enjoy the piece and quiet. The pond is clean and beautiful. We saw an eagle while out on the water! And if you want to go exploring there is endless places to hike around Mount Desert Island. You get the best of both worlds rest and play. We hope to go back next year.

Roger and Lauri are incredible hosts! The listing is just as described, and Roger gave really helpful advice about places to eat, as well as how to find their place. Roger and Lauri made breakfast each morning that we were there, and they were incredibly delicious. The view that you get from their place is absolutely stunning! They are right by the water, and it's a gorgeous panoramic view! The facilities are very clean, and the place was super homey and inviting. You cannot go wrong with this place, we will definitely be back and staying at this place again in the future!

Beautiful place next to the sea, clean house and nice host.

I would love to give this place six stars, or even seven or eight, why not ten! The location adjacent to Acadia National Park is truly unique, Private, and exceptional. The house is immaculately clean, the beds comfortable, all the amenities top notch. But that’s not even what Roger’s place is about. It is essence of Maine. We can’t wait to come back!

Highly recommended! Walk in to the cottage and your breath will be taken away by the view. The “quiet side” of the island has plenty to explore, and Roger’s tips helped us maximize our time on the island. Our boys loved the dock and we took a bracing -and brief- dip in the water. The wonderful breakfasts provided were the icing on the cake. Our stay was amazing!

Roger & Lauri's place is beautiful. The view from your living room is stunning as your are only a very short distance to the water. Everything is very comfortable & the breakfasts were delicious. A really great place to stay if you are going to visit Acadia National Park.

Such a lovely place at such a beautiful spot! Hard to top! We enjoyed the outside (Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor Lighthouse etc.) just as much as the inside (very cozy place with an amazing view over the lake thanks to a window front and a fireplace which seems like a real cheminée and the very beautiful furniture with rocking chairs, book shelfs full of sailing books and literature, many nice lamps and a very cozy, open kitchen). And we were spoiled with Lauries&Rogers selfmade breakfast in the morning (popovers, American style breakfast or pancakes - everything so good!), thank you! If ever we are in the area again, we will definitely come back here.

Cookie Bite Cove is the perfect place for a quiet and relaxing getaway. At first I was worried that staying on the quiet side of the island was going to be to far when trying to visit some of the main areas, but boy was I wrong! The location was perfect! Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor were just a short drive away. We enjoyed our mornings/evenings on the spacious deck with a breathtaking view of the lake while we spent our afternoons kayaking on the water. Added bonus: our dogs could join us!! Kathryn was a great host! She was super friendly, always available for questions and offered us recommendations for our trip! The cabin was very clean, very spacious and had everything we needed! We hope to visit again in the future.

This is an amazing place with a wonderful location facing the Lake. Everywhere we wanted to visit is close by. Bar Harbor and Acadia national Park. If you want a quiet getaway this is the place. Hosts Katheryn and her Husband were great, we got to use the their Kayaks and a nice swim in the lake. This is a very Pet friendly place as well. The house is nice and clean with all the Amenities. We miss the place and will definitely return soon

Kathryn’s place was wonderful! Very clean and homey. The pictures do not do the place justice. It is a very quiet area which was so peaceful, my husband and I loved sitting out on the porch with our dog, coffee, and books, enjoying the view of the pond. The place is in a great location and we were able to explore Acadia National Park as well as the various small towns on the island. We were very sad to leave!

This place is wonderful. When we arrived at one night in summer, we found a tiny lightning bug was on the front door of our car. Then we realized the house was surrounded by many of them. Which was so beautiful. You can see a pond in from of you, and the scenery in the morning is amazing. If you are lucky, you can see deers waking in the grassland in from of the house. In the pond, you can also enjoy canoe and kayak. The pond is also a good spot for fishing. We knew that there are many places to visit in Acadia, but we decided to spend for quite long time at the lodge just to relax. This place is good for a family with small kids. Last but not least, if you have any questions, Kathryn replies immediately and provide a lot of useful local information. She is as wonderful as the lodge !

"A Seal's Life" was truly one of the most magical places my family has ever stayed. This was our first trip to Acadia, and choosing this home to stay in was a perfect choice. The location is good, the view is more than we could have ever expected. We spent hours each morning gazing out on the serene waters and viewing the many seals enjoying their morning playtime. The home was clean and immaculately decorated with many thoughtful touches for the guest throughout. If ever we come back to Acadia, and I hope we do, we will definitely stay at "A Seal's Life" again.

Dani’s place is outstanding. The view is just what we wanted. Relaxing quiet and beautiful. The bed was so comfy and waking up each morning in bed to that wonderful view was heaven on earth! Thanks for sharing your wonderful home with us! We will be back!

There is always that moment when you come around the corner of your Airbnb property to see how well it stands up to the pictures and descriptions; I said as much as my four girlfriends and I stepped onto the deck of our rental. And then after that all anyone could hear if they were nearby were gasps and exclamations as we took in our view. The location of this home is just amazing, and your eyes can’t drink in the views fast enough as you cross the enormous, wraparound deck. I realized we hadn’t even opened the door to the home yet and we were already smitten, all standing on the deck, furiously taking pictures like mad teenagers. The views, the silence, the wildlife... spectacular. And the home is just wonderful. It is comfortable and has plenty of space. The kitchen is adorable and has just what you need. The living area with its great dining table and telescope to watch the seals is great, and the bedrooms are cozy and perfect. And the upstairs shower! Never before have I taken a shower with a rain head, body sprays and hand wand that also has digital controls, allowing you to add steam or play music... dancing to music in the shower while looking out over the ocean is a must-have experience. And we spent much of our time at the house on the gorgeous deck enjoying cocktails, watching the seals and birds, and at night getting lost in the incredible night sky. It is easy to get to any part of Bar Harbor with a short drive; but you will love the solitude and privacy of this place. Lastly, we had an issue starting the gas fire pit out on the deck (probably because they let the blonde do it), and we texted Dani asking if we should replace the propane tank. Dani and Tim showed up just a few hours later to check on it for us, and we spent some time chatting with them and meeting their new boy Tuck; they are outstanding hosts. Rent this place!!

Pictures do not do this home justice, the view is amazing. It was the perfect place to relax with family for a few days. Would absolutely stay here again.

Of all the vacation rentals we have stayed at, Dani’s place definitely ranks at the top. The location was beautiful and serene. The house was clean, well decorated, and well supplied. If you are an avid cook, as we are, know that the older stove requires careful watching, but otherwise you can manage quite well with what Dani supplies. We loved our stay and hope to come back!

This house is in a beautiful location. We able to go for a nice long walk in the woods right outside the door. There's a scope and binoculars provided for watching the seals offshore. We really enjoyed sitting on the deck around the fire table with our friends in the early morning and evening. We didn't use the grill but it would have been perfect if we had wanted to. We had three couples in the house and it worked well. Two things to be aware of are that one bedroom has bunk beds and the other two bedrooms share a large bathroom. It didn't cause any issues and the shower setup is really nice. Bar Harbor is close enough to be easy to get to and we really enjoyed our time there. We also spent a day hiking in Acadia National Park. Overall, this location made for an extremely relaxing vacation.

We had a great visit. The property is spectacular for those seeking a serene location, as we were (we particularly enjoyed the seals), and Dani truly is a superhost. We hope to return!

Kathryn and Dana were WONDERFUL to stay with. It felt like staying with family with how welcoming and kind they were. They had great tips for places to see nearby and reading by the cozy fireplace was lovely.

Kathryn and Dana's cabin is a such a gem by the lakeside. If you're looking for tranquility and a place to reset, this place is it. The hosts were instrumental in creating a warm, cozy environment that felt perfectly like home. Despite Acadia nearing off-season with the addition of heavy downpour and wind advisories during my stay, the hosts suggested plenty of activities to consider, and it was still highly memorable and enjoyable. Though I wished I was able to stay a bit longer--especially hoping to spend a winter day in the cabin--this visit will no way be the last.

Kathryn and Dana are extremely gracious and generous hosts. The lake cabin is completely updated and very clean. There is a shared space (kitchen) but the bedrooms and bath are separated and private. They are very flexible with the kitchen and nothing felt intrusive. The cabin is on an ideal lake location and very serene. It is centrally located on Mt Desert isle, between Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor about10 min drive to each and accessible to many accesses to Acadia NP. Would definitely stay again.

We visited Kathryn s place at the end of October and had a lovely time. The place is great, thinking about revisiting during the winter, when the lake is frozen. Extremely clean and cozy!

What a place! The only thing more wonderful than the cabin and location was Kathryn’s hospitality. She stuck the perfect balance between personal connection and privacy. The house is recently remodeled and well appointed. The lake, dock, and boats are right out the window and easy to enjoy. Thanks for a great stay!

Great location right next to the lake. She also has kayaks that she lets you use. The host was very friendly and attentive. The cabin was sparkling clean, cozy, and you can tell she put a lot of thought into the space.

Ralocastle is a secluded rustic cottage with an incredible lakeside view. A great place to get away from it all. The kitchen is well appointed with everything one could need. The fireplace was nice on chilly evenings. Long Pond is a great place to canoe--big enough to be interesting with lots of wildlife and a beautiful shoreline. Despite the secluded site we were only 25 minutes from Bar Harbor or Southwest Harbor.

Lesli’s family home is a joy to stay at. With quick access to the whole of Acadia Nat’l Park, and in an unbelievable location with privacy and quiet, it’s a dreamy place to be for a few days or week. The rustic cabin is bathed in morning sunlight, making breakfast cheery and warm. The open plan for the living spaces is just right to enjoy the panoramic view out the windows. We especially loved the family vacation maps decorating the bedroom walls that were made by a child over 50 years ago. Lesli’s family also has a great assortment of books to read while you’re there, including informative and inspiring books to help you see parts of Acadia that you didn’t know existed! The kitchen has all the things you need to whip up a great meal and baked dessert. And the shower has lots of hot water to melt away aches and pains after overexertion on the hiking trails. Lesli was a pleasure to work with via the AirBnB site and by text. We requested her place the night before and she got back to me so quickly I was pleasantly surprised! I will be keeping her cabin on my list of places to return to.

This remains our favorite Airbnb experience, time and time again. There is something so special about Ralocastle, and the waterfront location can't be matched. We enjoyed so many mornings and evenings on the dock, and didn't want to leave the hammock or reading chairs inside. The history of the house adds to its charm, and we already can't wait to return again.

This was my second visit to this cabin on MDI. The location is picturesque and offers a quiet place to unwind in the beauty of nature. Being within driving distance of all Acadia NP and Bar Harbor have to offer is great, but relaxing on the water with the mountains in the background is why I chose to return. This rustic cabin is great to share with friends or family and Lesli makes it incredibly easy to plan and enjoy your trip.

If you are looking for peace and relaxation near Bar Harbor, you could not pick a better place to stay! The cabin is rustic, but very clean and cozy with all the cooking amenities you need for wonderful meals on the screened in porch. Falling asleep to the lapping waves and occasional cry of a loon gave me the most peaceful sleep I ever had. The location is wonderful. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, but can get to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park within 20 minutes. Having use of the boats is an awesome perk that my husband and daughter took full advantage of, but I would caution that the current can be strong and if you are not an experienced rower, you could find it difficult to navigate back to the dock. The cabin has many personal touches that really make you feel at home. Books for both adults and children as well as puzzles and games. The crowning jewel is the deck! Morning coffee out there was magical, especially when I woke early enough to watch the fog roll over the water and burn off with the sun. The camp manual was so thorough that we had very little need to contact Leslie, but the one question we did have was answered promptly. We would not hesitate a second to book this cabin again! Trip notes for the area. Our personal favorite restaurants were The Black Friar Pub, Everyday Joe’s and 2 Cats. The Jr. Ranger program in Acadia National Park is excellent for kids.

We stayed at this airbnb for two days during our visit of Acadia park. The house is very spacious and the views are incredible. The location feels quite remote but within 20minutes from many places of interest. As it is rented out by Vacasa Maine and not the owners directly you wont be contacted by anyone through Airbnb until just before checkin which was a little confusing for me. But if you call Vacasa Maine or download their app they are very responsive.

The house is gigantic, the view is utterly amazing and the kitchen is really good. The internet is really bad, though we had such a good time.

Acadia’s Doorstep is just minutes away from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. I enjoyed the quiet location immensely. It is off the beaten path but very easy to find. The accommodations were an apartment above the garage and were comfortable and inviting. I had the pleasure of meeting Dani during my stay and can say she was very welcoming. She has excellent tips for your stay especially if you are an adventurer! We cannot wait to get back to Maine and Acadia’s Doorstep!

We had a great stay at this apartment during our trip to Acadia. The apartment is beautiful, cozy, and has a well-stocked kitchen. Dani’s check-in instructions are very clear, and she has a helpful binder with local restaurants and attractions. The apartment is located in Mount Desert Island, about 20 minutes from Bar Harbor and 25-30 minutes from Acadia (the Cadillac Mountain area). This wasn’t fully clear to us when we booked, so just FYI! Overall, we would definitely recommend this spot.

Nice place for a group of friends to stay

Check-in/check-out is super easy. The inside is sleek/modern. Our group had a great time. The drive to the main park is ~25 min...I’d definitely stay here again with a large group.

Wow! Had an excellent stay at Jeff’s place to celebrate my husbands 40th birthday with our 2 young boys (8 and 6) and baby girl (3 months). Jeff was always communicative and helped with anything we needed. The house is even cooler in person. I wish it was a bit warmer so we could have enjoyed the pool (again so beautifully landscaped) although my boys did jump in! The game room was also a highlight for them. Everything in the house is very well equipped, and nicely decorated, comfortable to come back to relax and cook dinner after a long day of hiking. We enjoyed the quiet side of the island and Jeff’s guidebook was a big help. We loved beech hill farm and sweet pea’s cafe as suggested. Beech mountain trail and echo lake beach were also a big hit! Bar harbor and Cadillac mountain etc are about 35 min way but easily accessible and we spent a few days over that way. Would highly recommend and hope to go back one day.

What a wonderful space! The house was huge, easily accommodating our mixed age group of 13. Fabulous indoor and outdoor areas. The weather cooperated and we enjoyed eating outside, swimming in the heated pool and making trips to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. I always got immediate responses from Jeff whenever I reached out. Thank you!

My team and I really enjoyed our stay in Seal Cove, it's the perfect home base for exploring MDI. Close to trails on the quiet-side and an easy drive to Bar Harbor and attractions like Jordan Pond. The house is well laid out; we had plenty of space to work and bond but also enough places to spread out for alone time. We'll definitely be back later in the season when the pool is open and we need to return for work!

Wayne and his old, nice dog lives right in the forest with turkeys and deer just outside the window. Waynes house and hospitality is absolutely outstanding - and we loveed the old ranger dog Jimmi. Everything exceeded our expectations; the athomsphere, the cosiness, the extremely tidy and clean apartment and the rest of the house. Great kitchen with everything you need for cooking - and so nice to talk to Wayne to learn about the area. If we ever go back to this part of the world - we'll stay with Wayne and Jimmi the dog again. Wayne is building a Yurt in the forest close to the house. We would love to stay in that yurt next time.

We loved our stay at Wayne's! The space was so clean and comfortable, perfect for me and my three friends. We enjoyed access to everything in the kitchen, it was so nice to be able to cook our own meals while out on vacation for the weekend. Wayne was very kind and considerate with our arrival and check out times, letting me come back to shower after my marathon race, which was the absolute best! Really beautiful location and great access to the National Park, would highly recommend!

Wayne’s place in Southwest Harbor was very nice. Very clean. Very quiet. Very comfortable. And Nicely decorated. Our host, Wayne, was accommodating. He set up the outside deck for us and visited with us some. We stayed in our own space upstairs where we had everything we needed and more! We cooked a couple meals in the lovely kitchen Wayne shared. Wayne and his very sweet dog, Jimmy, were quiet and friendly. I hope to stay at Wayne’s place again next summer.

Wayne's home is located not too far from the quaint little downtown area of Southwest Harbor. It is a nice stroll into town which offers some nice breakfast options and a great little coffee shop. There are numerous hiking trails only a few miles down the road and Bar Harbor is only about a 25 minute drive, which is definitely worth visiting and going out to in the evening for dinner. It is really nice to have the entire upstairs to yourselves, which also includes a living room with a tv capable of streaming Netflix. Both the bathroom and the bedroom are plenty spacious and comfortable to use. The home was also spotless and Wayne was more than pleasant to talk to and communicate with. All in all, I highly recommend Wayne's lovely home!

Wayne is the ultimate host! We had the best time during our stay with him. Our flight got delayed and he was gracious with us getting there past check in time. When we arrived we were greeted by his sweet 16 year old beagle, Jimmy! He is incredibly sweet and quiet. Wayne’s place is a beautiful custom made house that is unbelievably clean!! He had the most thoughtful touches: coffee, water, trail mix, dishes, fridge etc all upstairs in our own private area. If we needed anything whatsoever Wayne provided it. He has so much knowledge of the area. We didn’t come with much of a plan and all his recommendations were wonderful! As mentioned he has kayaks available and he helped us load/unload them without hesitation. We had a great time drinking wine and getting to know him. We highly recommend Wayne’s home!! We can’t wait to return to try out the future yurt:) Thanks again Wayne!!

What a sweet cottage! Our family of five enjoyed the peaceful setting. Our children had a ball playing in the woods around the house and jumping off the dock. The house had all the amenities we needed, and the beds were comfortable — important after long days of hiking and biking through Acadia! We liked the location on the “quiet side” of the island — convenient to everywhere we wanted to go, but out of the way enough to feel secluded and serene. Diana was very hospitable and had great suggestions about where to eat and shop and run. The setting on Long Pond was absolutely beautiful!

Windiana is a secluded, cozy, modern cottage about 25 min drive from the core of Acadia National Park. It’s right on the water and an excellent place to watch sunsets on the lake.

This was an incredibly peaceful stay! The waterfront property portrayed Maine in its fullest.

Diana was a great host. The house was fabulous, with incredible view of Long Pond. Everything was clean and comfortable for three adults. If you want peace and quiet with nature all around you, this is the place to be. It is close to Acadia National Park and an easy drive to Bar Harbor. Although we did not meet Diana in person, she made sure we had everything we needed and easy to communicate with. We LOVED our stay.

If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing place to recharge and connect with nature - this is the place for you!! Wonderful spot, only downside was having to leave!

Spacious, clean and comfortable private apartment below house. Check-in/check-out were a breeze. Rachel communicated promptly with accurate directions and provides a nice book with tips for restaurants, groceries and even rainy day activities (nice!). This place is ideal for a couple staying several days. There is a full-sized kitchen with all the essentials which is extremely convenient. The living room area is ample and inviting to hang out in. Private full bathroom is a must for me and was great to have! WiFi worked great. The place was nice and quiet. We barely heard Rachel and her family above! Location is good. Not too far from Acadia's loop road, but away from Bar Harbor for those looking for fewer crowds and nice drives. Overall, I highly recommend Rachel's place and Rachel's hospitality! The only thing I might wish for is a king bed, but it would be a bit tight ...

It is a very clean and neat apartment, and well equipped with everything you need. You have parking right on the premises, and your own private entrance. The excellent host lives in the apartment above, and is very responsive to any questions you might have. The apartment is in a quiet and secluded area, and we found it to be great for our “downtime” in the evening after hiking trails in Acadia National Park most of the day. We highly recommend it!

Rachel’s place was exactly as we expected. Comfortable, quiet, relaxing and a perfect place to wind down. The bed was super cozy and we slept like babies. The kitchen is conveniently stocked with most things I could think of. The location was close to Bass Harbor Trail, which was one of our favorite hikes! We would definitely recommend this home to anyone looking to chill out and be lazy after a long, adventurous day.

This lovely little apartment is a great place to stay for a few days! Rachel is a wonderful host and was responsive to all messages. She provided a notebook with information on the area, including menus and recommendations for stores, gas and restaurants. The decor is cozy and the spacious rooms are really clean. We arrived late and didn't have time to shop for groceries so the morning coffee was a real treat. We also really loved the soft bath towels! The apartment is located on the quiet side of the island, near the lighthouse which was perfect for us. Thanks for hosting us Rachel!

Spacious, lovingly furnished and very clean apartment with everything you need to feel good. There is also a small terrace. Acadia National Park (about 30 minutes), shops and restaurants are only accessible by car. We felt very comfortable with Rachel.

Incredibly clean and comfortable environment. The dark curtains on the bedroom windows are an especially nice touch for travelers coming from different time zones who might want to sleep in.

The views here are more amazing then the pictures represent! It is definitely on the “quiet” side of the island so a little bit of a drive from shopping/attractions, but def worth it to come back after a busy day to a spacious beautiful view! Our favorite thing was ordering cooked lobster from local Hodgson’s seafood and bringing it home to eat at sunset!

this is a very special place in a beautiful location. we had the most relaxing time. as others have noted, the space is large with high ceilings and there is only one heat source - but we were still comfortable in mid september.

This cozy cabin on the water was perfect for our 8-person group. It was so beautiful and comfortable that we hardly wanted to leave to go explore the rest of the island. The large, well-stocked kitchen and open living area was great for a large group, and each bedroom had its own cozy personality. Everything was clean and organized, and our communications with the hosts were speedy and helpful. Would definitely stay here again!

Wow! Wow! Wow! This place is so amazing!!! We were two four-person families and had so much space and so much fun!!! The house was fully stocked with everything you could ever need including an incredible well stocked kitchen and insanely awesome range. The views are outstanding. Everything was so relaxing and so perfect. Checkin was simple. We could not have asked for a better place to vacation!!!

This home is so pretty, spotlessly clean, and beautifully decorated. It had a lovely dock that rests on a perfect lake. It is roomy and has a nicely outfitted kitchen. We would definitely stay here again.

This home is quite a gem. It was very quiet, restful and very comfortable. The owners are wonderful. They were very attentive and made sure we were happy with our stay. As they solicited comments, and as we do enjoy grilling outdoors we noticed there were no gas grill cooking utensils. No problem, we can get by. I mentioned this to them and the next day they they delivered a new set of Weber cooking utensils! That was above and beyond in my opinion. The kitchen also has 2 ovens for those that like to cook. We enjoyed swimming, kayaking and fishing off the new dock. There's a kayak rental outfit a short kayak trip at the head of the pond. The house situated centrally and is approximately 10 to 15 minutes to Bar Harbor, Acadia NP, and Southwest Harbor. We went to sleep each night listening to the loons, very peaceful. - Dan

The pictures don’t do justice. As you approach the kitchen for your morning coffee, the sunlight is sparkling on the water below, and flooding through the windows. The owners have taken time to provide the guest with almost every amenity from home: a kitchen equipped with pots, pans, utensils, ( lovely sharp knives! ) potholders, aprons, water bottles, basic spices, trash bags, herb garden outside, flashlights ... the list goes on. The laundry area is treated in much the same manner. The office area is complete with basic needs: tape, stapler, pens, reliable wi-fi... Bedrooms each have large box fans, plenty of clothing storage and clean, comfy linens. We had a lovely time spending mornings on the dock, enjoying the lake before heading to Acadia National Park for hikes and biking. Beech Hill Farm is a stones throw away for fresh produce. This is an older home that has been beautifully updated. The owners and caretaker are attentive and quick to respond. The refrigerator needed to be replaced just as we arrived, but our hosts were very communicative and even provided us with a huge cooler full of ice ( and chilled champagne) to get us through the first day before the new fridge arrived. All you can ask for is quick action and sensitivity when these things happen- and that’s what we got. This one is a winner. A perfect blend of MDI camp life with all the amenities.

As a city girl with the goal of giving my dog the best birthday trip ever, I decided to do a trip to this yurt in Maine. I am not the camping type but I must say the hosts made everything as easy as possible that even a noob like me survived during a pretty bitter MLK weekend. The animals in their farm were adorable. The spring water was yummy. The yurt was cozy. Bring extra blankets and pillows! And of course if your coming in the winter some extra fire starters and dry wood Can really save your butt. Their is a plug for your phone but be mindful it is a usb/car outlet. My dog ended up having the time of your life 10/10 will recommend. Will come again.

A magical escape, we loved our stay at the Howling.

Fox’s Hollow was the perfect secluded getaway, it was a fantastic experience getting off the grid for a bit. The yurt is very cozy and has all the amenities for a comfortable carefree stay. Candace and Brendan are wonderful hosts and have created quite the fairytale getaway the Howling Woods. Great spot to explore be sure to visit Cedar and Ike up at the farm. Definitely will return for another visit!

AMAZING AIRBNB. I really enjoyed the amenities inside the yurt; lots of thoughtful touches to keep us cozy and get through our stay with comfort in mind! There were assorted teas, hand warmers, and candles inside! The bedding kept us super warm despite it being snowy weather. I also really liked that there was a binder inside the yurt with all of the details of the area including how to use the wood stove, where to find restrooms, shower house, and water well. I also found the hosts to be VERY VERY helpful and attentive, whenever we ran into them around the premises they were very friendly and always asked how we were doing. We were planning to do a lobster boil and Candace so generously offered me one of their personal pots to use! Advice I would give to prospective guests is to thoroughly read the description of the airbnb; most notably (and understandably) there is no running water inside the yurt, a few light sources inside, and a few outlets for electricity. I found it helpful to bring a headlamp! Definitely a fun, cozy, rustic place to stay!

A fairytale experience. Expect a comfortable camping experience. When we visited in November, the woodstove made for cozy evenings. We appreciated bringing our own pillows and a small folding table.

We had a wonderful stay at Howling woods, it was so peaceful and quiet, especially when it rained at night. Candice was extremely responsive to my questions answering them right away. The experience itself was a glorified camping experience, we had brought our dog which was so much fun in the yurt. There were some great unexpected features as we knew we were staying "off the grid". There was a propane stove, small lights that lit up the whole yurt, as well as a little charging station for our phones. The wood stove was perfect for keeping the yurt warm in the chilly nights, there was a great fire pit and it was an awesome feature that there was plenty of seasoned wood available for our use There was a well available for fresh water as well as an adorable misfit farm on the property. Everything seemed to be within a 20-30 minute drive which we were ok with. Yummy restaurants such as Charlottes and side street grille and great hikes all throughout the area made the drives worth while. We especially liked the old Rockefeller property because we could have our dog off leash and there were some great trails! Even saw a bald eagle as we were on our way off the island. Must stop shop is def Bark harbor if you have a dog they were all so nice in there! Geddys in down town bar harbor had some delicious drinks as well! Acadia was mind blowing, def spend some time there, but enjoy the peace and quiet of the yurt when you return. Over all we had such a lovely 4 day getaway. Just perfection! Thank you!!

Great secluded place to stay for those who like to get off the beaten path. Loved the cozy feeling of the log heater and cool lights. It was nice to have a gas stove to make breakfast, as well as a fire pit. Farm was also fun to explore.

The Howling Woods is easily the most unique place I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Walking through the woods felt like a real life fairytale, and getting to see the animals was amazing. Candace and Brendan were very accommodating and great hosts. The location is peaceful and perfect, being a short distance from Bar Harbor village, but far enough to feel like you're in a wilderness retreat. Would 10/10 recommend and will certainly be back!

I stayed at Little Frog for a few nights over the New Year. Highly recommend staying here in the colder months! The wigwam has a wood-fired stove that warms the place up quickly and cozily. The location from the property to so many spots along Arcadia that I wanted to try were about 30 minutes, that flew by due to scenery. The farm and all it’s animals are a wonderful addition- loved the puppy, Cedar. Candace & Brendan were great hosts- fast to respond with questions, otherwise left alone

Absolutely amazing! If you need to get the creative juices flowing, this is the place to stay at! It was how I imagined a lost boy would live: out in the woods, able to choose what you do that day and knowing that Peter Pan and Wendy are nearby to help with anything if you need it. If you’re looking for adventure and a new experience that stimulates the imagination- you’ll want to stay here! From early quiet mornings to a day in the woods and then the stars at night- it is just beautiful! And hearing and seeing the animals around just enhances the experience. I highly recommend the place for those who are looking for a break and a bit of adventure!

100% recommend staying here if you want a perfect halfway between camping and being somewhere cozy. It had everything we needed, the property was lovely and Brendan and Candace are super friendly, communicative, and accommodating. An incredibly unique and charming experience!

This cabin was exactly what we were looking for, something completely private that gave us the ability to be "away from it all." The property is down a private road and you can barely see another house through the woods, so it felt properly private to us. I have Verizon and had difficulty getting a signal over most of the island but my husband has AT&T and had a signal at the cottage. The cottage is spacious, with plenty of room in the loft above and the two bedrooms on the ground floor. We cooked breakfast each morning in the well-equipped kitchen and cooked dinner on the outdoor grill in the evenings. The house is clearly well taken care of, down to the walkway to the house brushed clear of leaves and a pumpkin and mum to decorate the front porch. We purposely wanted to be on the "quiet side" of the island, but never had to drive longer than 25 minutes to get to any destinations within Acadia.

The bayberry cottage is a cute place to relax in while on MDI. The location is very quiet and private. We enjoyed our stay very much. Just know that you will most likely not have cell service here, so research whatever you need before arriving. The cottage is comfortable and has all the necessary amenities for a relaxing stay in the woods!

This cabin is a slice of heaven that we plan to visit again – perhaps in the late summertime for a change of season! Such a cozy spot to make home for a couple of days with all the fixings for true disconnect and embracing the nature around you. Such a convenient location for all Mount Desert Island has to offer and the off-season lends it self to making it feel like you have it all to yourself to explore.

The perfect place to unplug. Located far enough away from the "busy" stuff on the island but still close enough to quickly travel too. Cabin was cozy, the wood burning stove was the best!

A great secluded cabin that had everything we needed for a family of 6 on our spring break. I only wish we had more time to stay and take the kayaks out in the water.

Peg’s place is on remote side of Mt. Desert Island & a drive from Bar Harbor. Keep this is mind & I recommend you have a map of the island before you go. Also recommend that you look/study map & get acclamated with places in the island before you go. Some parts of Mt. Dessert Island has no cell service. Peg provides a map that you can use.

Peg's house was perfect for our family. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook at home and we enjoyed big family meals by putting two tables together. We loved all the different hang out spaces. There was room for some to read quietly, others played cards and kids were able to draw and play and ride thier bikes in the driveway. My husband and I loved the options for several quiet dirt road bike rides a short distance from the house. There are also many hikes within 15 mins and a walking path right out the back door. We all loved location of the house and would definitely stay there again.

A very nice and comfortable older home on a beautiful property. The home is quite spacious with two living areas and a large kitchen. There are three bedrooms and an oversized bathroom upstairs. There is ample natural light and the property and views are gorgeous. The home is equipped with everything you could possibly need and even had a pack-n-play and a box of toys/games for our little ones. Peg is a great host and was immediately responsive to our needs. We would definitely stay again. Thanks Peg!

Peg’s place was perfect for our family of five. We could have fit many more. The great room is well appointed and spacious. The property is stunning with fun extra adventures like a trail to Seal Cove. We had everything we needed here for our first visit to Acadia. This quietside is a bit further from the more popular Acadia Park trails, so we could enjoy the quiet. The laundry was great for after hiking clothes cleaning. The bathroom was clean and fresh. The towels were fluffy and huge. There was plenty of space to spread out and porches to take in lots of outstanding views.

We loved our stay here! Peg was super nice. She left the lights on as we drove in super late on our check in date and that was a nice warming touch to drive up to a lit house. She was very nice and courteous during our stay letting us have our space and feel like this was our home away from home for the few days we were there! Great host - great house with lots of bedrooms and space to hang out and just be in the wilderness of Tremont. I recommend you stay here on your visit to Acadia!

It is ideal for people looking for a quiet place surrounded by nature. Peg was very prompt in replying to our questions and needs. It is a clean and well maintained home. She had beautiful flower arrangements in the house made from the flowers in her backyard.

We enjoyed staying at Peg's place for a few days on a holiday weekend. It's on the Quietside of MDI, which was equally fun and had just as many things to do as near Bar Harbor / the more populated side of the island. Loved being in nature at her place, and it was plenty big enough for us (especially since it was just 5 of us). Recommend for people hoping to enjoy Acadia and wanting to stay somewhere that is spacious, has a kitchen, and more in nature than all of Bar Harbor's Inns.

The place was amazing. The view to the pond in the morning and afternoon was so relaxing. Jessica was very nice send all the information to my email with directions which helped so much. Place was clean and very well organized. I love to cook and even we were on vacation we had breakfast in every morning and some lunches and dinners in as well and one think that really call my attention it was that they have a lot of spices, salt, sugar which most places don’t. That was so helpful and a nice touch. I definitely recommend the cottage all thumbs up.

Erica’s home is in a quiet neighborhood. The home is a short drive to shops and restaurants of Southwest Harbor. We brought our dogs along with us and they loved the large fenced in yard behind the home. The house had cable and excellent WiFi service for the times we needed to work while away. Erica stocks the house with basic necessities needed to start a vacation and we appreciated that linens were provided. We had a nice stay.

The house was well stocked and convenient to hikes and restaurants. It's great for dogs, the back yard is completely fenced in. When we had a question Erica responded right away. We had a wonderful time and would stay there again.

We loved our stay in Southwest Harbor! The cozy ranch was the ideal family friendly, dog friendly base from which to explore Acadia and Mt. Desert Island. The space and amenities were just as described and pictured. Erica was a super responsive and generous host, both before and during our stay. We had limited cargo space and didn’t want to bring anything we could live without, so we were delighted that Erica provided the bulkier items we have had to bring to other rentals (bed linens, towels, beach towels, blankets for stargazing). The house was well equipped with most kitchen equipment and household supplies like trash bags, cleansers, etc. However, we saw no pantry basics beyond salt & pepper shakers and a few packets of sugar. So depending on what you plan to cook, you may want to pack your own seasonings and special tools like a blender or whisk. Our dog loved running around the enclosed yard, and it was easy to clean up after him with the provided shovel and pail. The super comfy sectional was a huge draw for our teenagers after a day of hiking and biking. Erica’s cozy ranch was a terrific home away from home, and we would not hesitate to return on our next visit to Acadia.
