Come stay among moss covered spruce woods in our village of tiny homes and misfit animals. Due to restrictions we are only able to have one party per week so we encourage longer stays. However we understand restraints and allow 2 nights during the winter months. Bike three miles to picnic by the ocean, swim or to hike up the western mountains. Take a short drive to Southwest and Bass Harbor for fresh seafood and entertainment. Even enjoy avant-garde theater in a rustic barn by the sea.
This home is built with bent maple poles in the style of an Iroquois Longhouse. There are large windows that let in the morning sun, space for storage, a wood stove perfect for winter stays and a cozy twin sized bed. Our property is located on a dead end road, please make sure to drive all the way to the end and park. We also have a very strict 10 mph speed limit on our road. It is important for our future that guests do not go over that limit. Thank you in advance.
Our tiny homes are sheltered in a quite mossy woodland. Just a mile walk from our land is a lake with wonderful swimming and fishing and the trailhead up the western mountains of Acadia. Take a two and a half mile bike ride in the opposite direction and you'll find yourself at a beautiful picnic spot by the ocean, the perfect place to enjoy a lobster bake as you watch the sun set.
  • We had an incredibly memorable stay at this one-of-a-kind place marked by its artistic brilliance and natural beauty. Hope to return to the Howling Woods before too long!

  • A wonderful experience in every regard, especially in clear and responsive communication with any questions — hope to visit again in the warmer months, but a lovely stay mid-winter as well.

  • We absolutely loved our stay here! Candace was so friendly and quick with her responses. The farm is absolutely adorable too

    Makenzie2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place is MAGICAL!! Felt really connected to the place and the woods surrounding. Super cozy with the wood stove despite the cold February temps. Loved this place so much!

    Amelia2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely magical. A place to get away completely and connect with nature, while having the quaint downtown of Bar Harbor close by. You will have stars in your eyes as you walk through their forest full of wooden creations and cozy huts. If you're a little rugged, adventurous and appreciate the simple life- this is your spot!

    Kelsie2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very cozy and cute! Check-in was super easy and the hosts were very welcoming.

    Anna2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Howling Woods! The Longhouse was spotless, and the fire was already started when we arrived, which was a sweet touch. The property is so peaceful and beautiful, and we loved getting a farm tour. Thank you for a great stay!

Located in Seal Cove, Maine, at the Long Pond entrance to Acadia National Park. 'Ferncrest' is on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island, near Pretty Marsh. It sits on the edge of a field overlooking Western Mountain. Two ponds are within walking distance. A short drive on unpaved roads brings you either to the ocean or the largest lake in Acadia National Park. The bustle of Bar Harbor is about 20 minutes away. The islands, mountains, oceanfront, ponds, trails, motor roads, and carriage roads of Acadia National Park are the biggest attraction in the area. Some of that beauty is right out the door of this guest apartment; the rest is close by. Nearby convenience stores are located in Bernard and Somesville; grocery and other shopping can be found in Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor.
  • One friend and I stayed at Ferncrest to attend a local wedding. We were delighted the moment we set foot in this charming apartment. The thought and care this host, Bruce, brings to every nook and cranny add to the inside comfort and the outside beauty. Everything we were looking for in a bnb was found in this space; it’s a gem. Bruce was informative and in communication both before and during our stay. We relaxed, enjoyed, and with no hesitation look forward to coming back.

  • Wonderful stay! Such a cozy place on the "quiet side" of the island, away from crowds but still convenient.

    Sherry2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • If you love being next to nature you will love this place. Everything is done with nice touches to make your stay comfortable. Bruce has great tips about where to visit so you can make the most out of your stay at Acadia. Can’t wait to come back

    Betsy2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Bruce’s accommodations were perfect for 2-4 people. It was clean and had everything you needed. Bruce is helpful and has a “bag” of info. Would go back!

    Susan2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • This apartment is truly on the quiet side of MDI. Not hard to find, but so different than what you see in Bar Harbor. It’s a well furnished apartment with stylish touches. The kitchen was well appointed, and the half refrigerator was big enough for vacationers’ needs. Bruce was away when we arrived, but arranged for another NPS staff person, Susan, to acquaint us with the apartment and to give us hiking suggestions. She went all out. The best thing was how quiet and dark it was at night.

    Gail2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Fernwood is a terrific place to stay when visiting Mount Desert Island. It is quiet, comfortable, stocked with interesting books on MDI and in a great location, away from the crowds. Bruce is very accommodating as well. We look forward to our next visit.

    Carolyn2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Ferncrest. It was a great place to unplug and truly enjoy the benefits of nature. Bruce was a perfect host - responsive, flexible and knowledgeable of the area. We especially appreciated the maps of Acadia, and Bruce’s flexibility in allowing us to check out late. Overall a wonderful experience.

    Beth2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy space and great location! Equidistant from Bar Harbor and Acadia. Bruce offered some great recommendations and communicated well leading up to the trip. Very friendly and sweet, while still respecting the privacy of a cheesy couple on their anniversary getaway.

  • Nancy and Pat were great hosts! It was a fun experience staying in a tiny house. Now I can say I've done it. It was great to be remote, but had wifi and some restaurants around to go. Otherwise we'd trek into Bar Harbor. The house was great, clean, and the hosts were wonderful. The compost toilet isn't something I'd choose for my house, but it was fine for a few days. Great stay!

    Katie2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great time staying at the Petite Retreat. Nancy goes out of her way to make sure her guests have everything they need for their stay. The house is in a great location on the Quiet Side of MDI allowing you to escape the crowds of Bar Harbor. The house is a convenient distance from Acadia and Bar Harbor as well as plenty of attractions on the Southwest Harbor, and was a great place to come back to for a campfire at night. Would highly recommend staying here.

    Christopher2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I loved staying here. It felt very private and it offered a lovely escape from the crowds of people around Acadia and Bar Harbor that we encountered during the day. Nancy was a great host and offered lots of info about places to see and things to do. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to check out the area

    Kristy2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this Petite Retreat! This tiny home was just right for our stay while exploring Acadia and MDI. Nancy has appointed her place very nicely for a comfortable stay. The compost toilet is interesting and had some odor at times, but there were things provided to help with it and we managed it just fine. It just took some getting used to. Overall, It was nice to be on the quiet side at the end of the day. We hiked several trails on the island but our favorite was on the quiet side, don’t miss Wonderland Trail and Ships Harbour Trail! We also visited the lighthouse, Southwest Harbor, and ate at Thurstons and Beals(better?). We drove Cadillac Mountain twice (amazing views), hiked around Jordon Pond and up the South Bubble (hard but fun). Don’t miss eating Popovers at Jordon Pond House, sit outside if you can! We also hiked some carriage roads, enjoyed Bar Harbor, drove through Northeast Harbor and went on the Acadia by Sea boat tour. Everything was worth the time! Can’t wait to return next year!

    Cynthia2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed being in the tiny house - it was very cosy (especially the bed!) and so well equipped!

    Simone Luisa2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • The petite retreat is a great tiny house! The home was close to everything we wanted to see and do, and we were provided with a park pass for our stay. Nancy is also great at communicating and checking in with you during your stay. I would recommended this home to anyone looking to visit Maine

    Dayna2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the Petite Retreat, a perfect location to explore Acadia and MDI. Nancy was a great host - kind, hospitable, responsive and went above and beyond with conveniences we would need during our stay. The only thing that set us back a bit was the compost toilet - that takes some getting used to! Otherwise a wonderful stay.

    Candace2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny house was a great alternative to a hotel room. It was the perfect amount of space for two people just looking to lay their heads down at night. The large bed is so comfortable! Nancy was a great host and provided a binder full of all the information one would need, including details and instructions for the house and excellent tips and recommendations for area attractions. The fire pit and porch were very enjoyable as well.

A piece of paradise on Mount Desert Island, located on a beautiful swimming lake on 16 acres of land on the island's quiet side. Near to the best lobster pound. Great fishing and canoeing on the lake. House is a renovated old farm house. Pets are welcome with a fee. Great for families who appreciate the beauty of Acadia. We share a beach on Seal Cove Pond with 1 family, so please be courteous. PLEASE NOTE from late June until late August we take reservations from Saturday to Saturday.
You are going to be staying in a farm house originally built in 1870. From the porch you have a view of a huge field where, in the summer, monarch butterflies hobnob among the milkweed and deer nibble to their hearts' content. To the right of the house are several blueberry bushes that push out fruit most of the summer. The lake is a short walk from the house down a path through a protected forest that belongs to us. For many years in the 60s and 70s the house was owned by a counter-culture psychiatrist who used to meditate naked on the property and often on the roof. We -- a family from China and America -- bought the house in 2012 and righted it, adding a bathroom and a master suite, a new stove, new windows and layer of insulation that helps the house stay cool in the summer. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
The property is located on the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island. That means it's away from the bustle and hustle of Bar Harbor, the main town on the island. At night the only thing you'll hear is the call of loons that nest near the lake. During the days, there's the wind that usually picks up in the afternoon, the splash of people swimming in the lake, and the calls of bald eagles that nest in the cedars across the pond.
  • This is our second visit to this home and hope it won’t be our last. Peaceful idyllic location right by a lovely lake. Old home with new addition that is well maintained and kept spotless. And well supplied. Host is fantastic and responsive. Couldn’t have had a better time here on “the quiet side” of Mount Desert Island.

    Stuart2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • I returned back to this home after 10 years. It had some really great updates, including a second bathroom. It's easy to find and being on the Quietside of MDI is so special. This privacy of this home is what is so appealing. If you are looking for the quintessential Maine camp, you've found it. If you want modern luxuries, this isn't for you. My family spent nearly two weeks here and would have spent another week if we could have. We picked apples from the trees on the property, saw butterflies hatching, meandered down to the lake, went on daily hikes, found as many lobster pounds as we could (Thurston's is the family favorite), and just relaxed. It's a great home for doing a whole lot of nothing. We hope to return next year.

    Erica2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great location on the quiet side of the island. We saw deer every day grazing in the field and bald eagles on the lake. There is a brand new tandem canoe that the owner let’s you use to explore the lake, we did not see any power boats which was great, we also brought a kayak and canoe of our one so we could all get on the water. We were two couples and a teenage boy, two full bathrooms so each couple had their own bathroom. We cooked our own meals, got groceries in Bar Harbor which has a big Hannafords which has everything you need. I would rent this place again, easy check in and quick response by the owner. Also there are caretakers who manage the property they were there in 10 minutes to take away the trash that was left behind from the weekly pick up. We didn’t realize our recycling had to be bagged.

    Melissa2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Magical two weeks! From the serene, quiet lake to the gorgeous sunrises rising up over the mountain each morning we couldn’t have asked for a more peaceful respite to spend our time in MDI. The house accommodated our family of 5 plus dog perfectly. We enjoyed lounging on the deck after lake swims & plenty of space inside to hangout in the light filled living room. We look forward to staying here again on our annual summer trip to MDI.

  • Wonderful spot! Beautiful and relaxing spot.

    Jocelyn2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a breathtakingly beautiful farm house in a great location. It offered a quiet and relaxing retreat while at the same time was very close to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The neighbors were closer than I would have hoped, which wouldn't have mattered if they were not there. They were quiet and wouldn't bother anyone, except they do have a dog, which roamed freely on the property including the deck of the house. It was a sweet dog, but caused a challenge for us having our dogs there. Other than that, it was a perfect week we will never forget!!

    Mickey2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely home with a mix of historical charm along with modern conveniences. We appreciated the large updated master bedroom and bathroom. The beds were comfortable. We had everything we needed. The house was exactly as described. Host was quick to respond to any questions we had. Would love to stay again.

    Cecelia2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • There is nothing like waking up to a Beautiful Mountain View! Great place to rest, relax and enjoy the piece and quiet. The pond is clean and beautiful. We saw an eagle while out on the water! And if you want to go exploring there is endless places to hike around Mount Desert Island. You get the best of both worlds rest and play. We hope to go back next year.

Small pets welcome with fee.
Located on the "Quiet Side" of Mt. Desert, the apartment overlooks scenic Blue Hill Bay, and has one of the best sunsets anywhere. Launch your kayaks from our private dock for great paddling in the protected waters of Blue Hill Bay, or take a bracing dip.
The apartment adjoins the original 4-bedroom cottage, and is part of our family's 10 acres of waterfront. Bordered by similar large acreage properties, it offers an uncommon degree of peace, quiet and privacy.
  • We had a great time and Roger and his wife were very welcoming and gracious!

    Kia2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Roger and Lauri are incredible hosts! The listing is just as described, and Roger gave really helpful advice about places to eat, as well as how to find their place. Roger and Lauri made breakfast each morning that we were there, and they were incredibly delicious. The view that you get from their place is absolutely stunning! They are right by the water, and it's a gorgeous panoramic view! The facilities are very clean, and the place was super homey and inviting. You cannot go wrong with this place, we will definitely be back and staying at this place again in the future!

    Steffi2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place next to the sea, clean house and nice host.

    Xinyi2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • I would love to give this place six stars, or even seven or eight, why not ten! The location adjacent to Acadia National Park is truly unique, Private, and exceptional. The house is immaculately clean, the beds comfortable, all the amenities top notch. But that’s not even what Roger’s place is about. It is essence of Maine. We can’t wait to come back!

    Jo-Ann2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended! Walk in to the cottage and your breath will be taken away by the view. The “quiet side” of the island has plenty to explore, and Roger’s tips helped us maximize our time on the island. Our boys loved the dock and we took a bracing -and brief- dip in the water. The wonderful breakfasts provided were the icing on the cake. Our stay was amazing!

    Tj2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Roger & Lauri's place is beautiful. The view from your living room is stunning as your are only a very short distance to the water. Everything is very comfortable & the breakfasts were delicious. A really great place to stay if you are going to visit Acadia National Park.

    Kenneth2018-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Roger was a great host and his home is awesome - spectacular views, especially at sunset. Short drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Roger was welcoming and attentive and provided a great breakfast the two days we were there. Highly recommend!

    Jack2018-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely place at such a beautiful spot! Hard to top! We enjoyed the outside (Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor Lighthouse etc.) just as much as the inside (very cozy place with an amazing view over the lake thanks to a window front and a fireplace which seems like a real cheminée and the very beautiful furniture with rocking chairs, book shelfs full of sailing books and literature, many nice lamps and a very cozy, open kitchen). And we were spoiled with Lauries&Rogers selfmade breakfast in the morning (popovers, American style breakfast or pancakes - everything so good!), thank you! If ever we are in the area again, we will definitely come back here.

The cabin is located at Seal Cove Pond , the western mountains of Mount Desert Island, home of Acadia National Park. Swimming, paddling, hiking and fishing are all nearby.
  • Cookie Bite Cove is the perfect place for a quiet and relaxing getaway. At first I was worried that staying on the quiet side of the island was going to be to far when trying to visit some of the main areas, but boy was I wrong! The location was perfect! Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor were just a short drive away. We enjoyed our mornings/evenings on the spacious deck with a breathtaking view of the lake while we spent our afternoons kayaking on the water. Added bonus: our dogs could join us!! Kathryn was a great host! She was super friendly, always available for questions and offered us recommendations for our trip! The cabin was very clean, very spacious and had everything we needed! We hope to visit again in the future.

  • This cabin is Beautiful! Gorgeous location, not far from local happenings! Kathryn was a wonderful host and we will be going back next year! Highly recommended.

  • This is an amazing place with a wonderful location facing the Lake. Everywhere we wanted to visit is close by. Bar Harbor and Acadia national Park. If you want a quiet getaway this is the place. Hosts Katheryn and her Husband were great, we got to use the their Kayaks and a nice swim in the lake. This is a very Pet friendly place as well. The house is nice and clean with all the Amenities. We miss the place and will definitely return soon

    Neelam2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Kathryn’s place was wonderful! Very clean and homey. The pictures do not do the place justice. It is a very quiet area which was so peaceful, my husband and I loved sitting out on the porch with our dog, coffee, and books, enjoying the view of the pond. The place is in a great location and we were able to explore Acadia National Park as well as the various small towns on the island. We were very sad to leave!

    Sarah2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place is wonderful. When we arrived at one night in summer, we found a tiny lightning bug was on the front door of our car. Then we realized the house was surrounded by many of them. Which was so beautiful. You can see a pond in from of you, and the scenery in the morning is amazing. If you are lucky, you can see deers waking in the grassland in from of the house. In the pond, you can also enjoy canoe and kayak. The pond is also a good spot for fishing. We knew that there are many places to visit in Acadia, but we decided to spend for quite long time at the lodge just to relax. This place is good for a family with small kids. Last but not least, if you have any questions, Kathryn replies immediately and provide a lot of useful local information. She is as wonderful as the lodge !

This oceanfront property is located in Bar Harbor, Maine just minutes form Acadia National Park. This is nestled on the coast and was once part of an artist colony. While enjoying this property you will see many seals sunbathing on the rocks just out your front door. You may also see geese, eagles and loons. This home is located 1 mile down a private road and surrounded by 100 acres of trails on the Blagdon Preserve. It is truly a magical place.
This is a 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom cottage literally on the ocean. There is fresh paint throughout and all the floors have been refinished. We have completed a new bathroom with an infrared sauna and steam/rain shower. Enjoy days on the porch listening to and watching the seals; relax in the evenings around the fire pit. There is a grill on the porch and a fully stocked kitchen(you supply your food). All bed linens are provided and one bath set per person. Please contact me if you are looking for fewer that 4 days as I may have options.
This is a very safe neighborhood. Located on a private road, there are only 5 other homes. It is a quiet and safe area. You are surrounded by trails to enjoy a walk or run and the peaceful Maine air.
  • "A Seal's Life" was truly one of the most magical places my family has ever stayed. This was our first trip to Acadia, and choosing this home to stay in was a perfect choice. The location is good, the view is more than we could have ever expected. We spent hours each morning gazing out on the serene waters and viewing the many seals enjoying their morning playtime. The home was clean and immaculately decorated with many thoughtful touches for the guest throughout. If ever we come back to Acadia, and I hope we do, we will definitely stay at "A Seal's Life" again.

  • Dani’s place is outstanding. The view is just what we wanted. Relaxing quiet and beautiful. The bed was so comfy and waking up each morning in bed to that wonderful view was heaven on earth! Thanks for sharing your wonderful home with us! We will be back!

    Gaye2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • There is always that moment when you come around the corner of your Airbnb property to see how well it stands up to the pictures and descriptions; I said as much as my four girlfriends and I stepped onto the deck of our rental. And then after that all anyone could hear if they were nearby were gasps and exclamations as we took in our view. The location of this home is just amazing, and your eyes can’t drink in the views fast enough as you cross the enormous, wraparound deck. I realized we hadn’t even opened the door to the home yet and we were already smitten, all standing on the deck, furiously taking pictures like mad teenagers. The views, the silence, the wildlife... spectacular. And the home is just wonderful. It is comfortable and has plenty of space. The kitchen is adorable and has just what you need. The living area with its great dining table and telescope to watch the seals is great, and the bedrooms are cozy and perfect. And the upstairs shower! Never before have I taken a shower with a rain head, body sprays and hand wand that also has digital controls, allowing you to add steam or play music... dancing to music in the shower while looking out over the ocean is a must-have experience. And we spent much of our time at the house on the gorgeous deck enjoying cocktails, watching the seals and birds, and at night getting lost in the incredible night sky. It is easy to get to any part of Bar Harbor with a short drive; but you will love the solitude and privacy of this place. Lastly, we had an issue starting the gas fire pit out on the deck (probably because they let the blonde do it), and we texted Dani asking if we should replace the propane tank. Dani and Tim showed up just a few hours later to check on it for us, and we spent some time chatting with them and meeting their new boy Tuck; they are outstanding hosts. Rent this place!!

  • Pictures do not do this home justice, the view is amazing. It was the perfect place to relax with family for a few days. Would absolutely stay here again.

    Danielle2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Of all the vacation rentals we have stayed at, Dani’s place definitely ranks at the top. The location was beautiful and serene. The house was clean, well decorated, and well supplied. If you are an avid cook, as we are, know that the older stove requires careful watching, but otherwise you can manage quite well with what Dani supplies. We loved our stay and hope to come back!

    Sara2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • This house is in a beautiful location. We able to go for a nice long walk in the woods right outside the door. There's a scope and binoculars provided for watching the seals offshore. We really enjoyed sitting on the deck around the fire table with our friends in the early morning and evening. We didn't use the grill but it would have been perfect if we had wanted to. We had three couples in the house and it worked well. Two things to be aware of are that one bedroom has bunk beds and the other two bedrooms share a large bathroom. It didn't cause any issues and the shower setup is really nice. Bar Harbor is close enough to be easy to get to and we really enjoyed our time there. We also spent a day hiking in Acadia National Park. Overall, this location made for an extremely relaxing vacation.

    Marcel2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great visit. The property is spectacular for those seeking a serene location, as we were (we particularly enjoyed the seals), and Dani truly is a superhost. We hope to return!

    David2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place. Offers: scenic views, seal watching, low tide shore walking and much more. The location is wonderful, close to the national parks and eateries. Yet remote and private. I'd go back. Great family place.

  • Beautiful cabin on a gorgeous lake! Very cozy and homey feel! Host were extremely knowledgeable and very willing to give suggestions. I will recommend this stay to anyone traveling to the mt. Desert island

  • Kathryn and Dana were WONDERFUL to stay with. It felt like staying with family with how welcoming and kind they were. They had great tips for places to see nearby and reading by the cozy fireplace was lovely.

    Jessi2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • Kathryn and Dana's cabin is a such a gem by the lakeside. If you're looking for tranquility and a place to reset, this place is it. The hosts were instrumental in creating a warm, cozy environment that felt perfectly like home. Despite Acadia nearing off-season with the addition of heavy downpour and wind advisories during my stay, the hosts suggested plenty of activities to consider, and it was still highly memorable and enjoyable. Though I wished I was able to stay a bit longer--especially hoping to spend a winter day in the cabin--this visit will no way be the last.

    Gary2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Kathryn and Dana are extremely gracious and generous hosts. The lake cabin is completely updated and very clean. There is a shared space (kitchen) but the bedrooms and bath are separated and private. They are very flexible with the kitchen and nothing felt intrusive. The cabin is on an ideal lake location and very serene. It is centrally located on Mt Desert isle, between Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor about10 min drive to each and accessible to many accesses to Acadia NP. Would definitely stay again.

    Anthony2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • We visited Kathryn s place at the end of October and had a lovely time. The place is great, thinking about revisiting during the winter, when the lake is frozen. Extremely clean and cozy!

    Zsófia2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • What a place! The only thing more wonderful than the cabin and location was Kathryn’s hospitality. She stuck the perfect balance between personal connection and privacy. The house is recently remodeled and well appointed. The lake, dock, and boats are right out the window and easy to enjoy. Thanks for a great stay!

    Chris2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great location right next to the lake. She also has kayaks that she lets you use. The host was very friendly and attentive. The cabin was sparkling clean, cozy, and you can tell she put a lot of thought into the space.

Right on the ocean, on 10 acres near the National Park, you'll love this large, airy retreat from the madding crowd. It's as close as you can get to Acadia, and not far from Bar Harbor. Perfect for families, with almost as much room on the decks as indoors, spectacular views, incredible sunsets, and the fabled rocky shore just yards away. With the main house and apartment having open plans and connected by a double doorway, there's both room to spread out and quiet space when wished for.
Noble Cottage is actually 2 distinct spaces: The original "camp" has a bedroom wing with 4 rooms, a connecting foyer with the bathrooms and a sitting area with TV, utility room/pantry, and the great room - an open plan room with living area, butcher block bar with stools, large dining table, desk and kitchen. The "apartment" is insulated and has two bed rooms, a bath with shower, living and dining areas and a kitchenette with full sized stove and fridge, small dishwasher and bar, and compact washer and dryer. The two spaces are connected through a double doorway, allowing them to be closed for privacy or just quiet time on either side.
This is a rural residential area, with all the surrounding properties at least 10 acres, so there is plenty of privacy

Our cozy and serene cabin is tucked into the shoreline of Long Pond on Mount Desert Island off the coast of Maine, hugged by cedar, pine, maple, spruce and fir trees on all sides.
RALOCASTLE, as our cabin is called, was built by our grandparents and has been lovingly maintained by our family for four generations. A true, uninsulated summer cabin, our 700 square foot Ralocastle is available from early summer through early fall. This is camp with all of the comforts of home. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, the other with two twins. The futon couch in the living room can be turned into a comfortable full-size bed for two. All bed, bath and kitchen linens are provided (including 10 bed pillows). There is a furnace and a fireplace (firewood provided) to stay cozy on cool days. For your convenience, there is a fully equipped kitchen, on site access to a washer and dryer, and a bathroom with shower. A screened-in porch serves as both "mud room" and a nice spot for outdoor dining on buggy days. There are plenty of chairs lining the open air porch facing the lake view, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee and a good book. Enjoy our eclectic library (something for everyone - including a selection of children's books) and our collection of games and jigsaw puzzles. Our dock is just steps from the cabin. Use it for swimming (ladder access provided into water), boating, and greeting the waterfowl who come to visit. Three watercraft - a canoe, an aluminum rowboat and a two-person kayak - are provided for our guests to enjoy on the pond which is the largest body of fresh water on the island. The spectacular Acadia National Park is located on Mount Desert Island and has something for everyone - beautiful drives, hiking and biking for all abilities, miles of rocky shoreline, and breathtaking views. All points of entry to this national treasure are within a 30 minute drive of the cabin. That said, we enjoy being on "the quiet side" of the island!
The cabin is located at the southern tip of Northern Neck, a peninsula extending approximately a mile into Long Pond. A private road provides access to the camps and homes on Northern Neck (a favorite form of exercise is walking this beautiful lane). Our cabin is well off the road down an extended drive. The southern and western shoreline of Long Pond are part of Acadia National Park. We have wonderful neighbors. The cabin to the west is in full view of us, but these folks are not local so are around only intermittently. They are very quiet and neighborly. The folks to the east are local and spend their summer on the pond - lovely people. They are further away and we cannot see their house from our cabin. Our open porch and dock/swimming cove are completely private (except from the view of whomever is paddling by!).
  • Ralocastle is a secluded rustic cottage with an incredible lakeside view. A great place to get away from it all. The kitchen is well appointed with everything one could need. The fireplace was nice on chilly evenings. Long Pond is a great place to canoe--big enough to be interesting with lots of wildlife and a beautiful shoreline. Despite the secluded site we were only 25 minutes from Bar Harbor or Southwest Harbor.

  • Lesli’s family home is a joy to stay at. With quick access to the whole of Acadia Nat’l Park, and in an unbelievable location with privacy and quiet, it’s a dreamy place to be for a few days or week. The rustic cabin is bathed in morning sunlight, making breakfast cheery and warm. The open plan for the living spaces is just right to enjoy the panoramic view out the windows. We especially loved the family vacation maps decorating the bedroom walls that were made by a child over 50 years ago. Lesli’s family also has a great assortment of books to read while you’re there, including informative and inspiring books to help you see parts of Acadia that you didn’t know existed! The kitchen has all the things you need to whip up a great meal and baked dessert. And the shower has lots of hot water to melt away aches and pains after overexertion on the hiking trails. Lesli was a pleasure to work with via the AirBnB site and by text. We requested her place the night before and she got back to me so quickly I was pleasantly surprised! I will be keeping her cabin on my list of places to return to.

  • This remains our favorite Airbnb experience, time and time again. There is something so special about Ralocastle, and the waterfront location can't be matched. We enjoyed so many mornings and evenings on the dock, and didn't want to leave the hammock or reading chairs inside. The history of the house adds to its charm, and we already can't wait to return again.

    Lauren2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful setting for relaxation.

  • This was my second visit to this cabin on MDI. The location is picturesque and offers a quiet place to unwind in the beauty of nature. Being within driving distance of all Acadia NP and Bar Harbor have to offer is great, but relaxing on the water with the mountains in the background is why I chose to return. This rustic cabin is great to share with friends or family and Lesli makes it incredibly easy to plan and enjoy your trip.

    Elisa2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for peace and relaxation near Bar Harbor, you could not pick a better place to stay! The cabin is rustic, but very clean and cozy with all the cooking amenities you need for wonderful meals on the screened in porch. Falling asleep to the lapping waves and occasional cry of a loon gave me the most peaceful sleep I ever had. The location is wonderful. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, but can get to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park within 20 minutes. Having use of the boats is an awesome perk that my husband and daughter took full advantage of, but I would caution that the current can be strong and if you are not an experienced rower, you could find it difficult to navigate back to the dock. The cabin has many personal touches that really make you feel at home. Books for both adults and children as well as puzzles and games. The crowning jewel is the deck! Morning coffee out there was magical, especially when I woke early enough to watch the fog roll over the water and burn off with the sun. The camp manual was so thorough that we had very little need to contact Leslie, but the one question we did have was answered promptly. We would not hesitate a second to book this cabin again! Trip notes for the area. Our personal favorite restaurants were The Black Friar Pub, Everyday Joe’s and 2 Cats. The Jr. Ranger program in Acadia National Park is excellent for kids.

  • We stayed at this airbnb for two days during our visit of Acadia park. The house is very spacious and the views are incredible. The location feels quite remote but within 20minutes from many places of interest. As it is rented out by Vacasa Maine and not the owners directly you wont be contacted by anyone through Airbnb until just before checkin which was a little confusing for me. But if you call Vacasa Maine or download their app they are very responsive.

Cozy bright one bedroom apartment over our garage with private entrance. Quiet neighborhood surrounded by woods and wildlife. Walking distance to Some Sound and Somes Pond and a short jaunt to Acadia National Park & many activities our island has to offer. Please note that this listing is showing as Bar Harbor and it is not in Bar Harbor, it is in Mount Desert. Our goal is happy guests with smiles and fond memories who want to return. We are always available to make your stay the best.
This is a great sunny apartment. The location is the key. We are located at the end of a quiet street with just one other house on the road. The deer visit us on a daily basis. You can walk less than a mile to Somes Pond where you can swim, kayak, or take the provided folding chair, and sit on the shore with a good book. There are many trails in the area to walk or you can jump on a bike and explore a bit farther. The carriage roads and Acadia National Park are our playground. We live in the house but the way that the apartment is situated, it offers privacy for both the guest and us. Please do not use the fenced back yard and ask to use the front porch for our privacy.

  • We had a great stay at this apartment during our trip to Acadia. The apartment is beautiful, cozy, and has a well-stocked kitchen. Dani’s check-in instructions are very clear, and she has a helpful binder with local restaurants and attractions. The apartment is located in Mount Desert Island, about 20 minutes from Bar Harbor and 25-30 minutes from Acadia (the Cadillac Mountain area). This wasn’t fully clear to us when we booked, so just FYI! Overall, we would definitely recommend this spot.

Located in Seal Cove, this hidden getaway is ideal for families wanting a slice of the Maine life. The in-ground pool will provide hours of fun for the whole family and with major hiking trails just around the corner, Long Pond less than 5 mins drive and the lovely Southwest Harbor within 15 mins, this house is perfect for those seeking a quiet getaway that still has all the bustling parts of the island within easy reach.
My aim was to create different spaces that would meet all the moods that may take you on a vacation. On the first floor you will find a large living space with cozy couch and a 55” smart tv, for those evenings where the whole family wants to chill out and watch movies. There is also a quieter reading area at the end of the living space with a comfy chaise and chair, perfect for getting lost in a good book but close enough to still feel involved. The ground floor has a large kitchen with all the essentials you could need to make this house feel like your home. The dining area has a large round table ideal for those evening feasts. There's also a deck off the kitchen/dining area for eating al fresco. You will also find two large queen bedrooms on this level, tucked away from the main heart of the house for a quiet night’s sleep. Upstairs you will find three bedrooms and a bathroom. The first is a large master bedroom with a king bed, a second king bedroom and the third is a bunk room with a twin bed and twin over a full bunk bed. All these bedrooms have large, built-in closets. The lower level has a full bathroom and additional sleeping space. The game room also has a foosball table, dart board, TV with games consoles and a bar area with a built-in fridge, offering a great space for kids and adults to unwind together.
The area of Seal Cove is one of the many gorgeous treasures you will find tucked away off the beaten path on Mount Desert Island. Locals refer to this part of the island as the “quiet side," offering a much more tranquil stay. The area is in the southwest corner of Mount Desert Island near the more well-known Bass Harbor. A visit to the Lighthouse is a must, where you can experience a sunset like no other. Other well-known areas of the island are easily accessible. You can be at the famous Carriage Trails and Mount Cadillac within 15 minutes and over to the famous Bar Harbor in less than 20.

  • Wow! Had an excellent stay at Jeff’s place to celebrate my husbands 40th birthday with our 2 young boys (8 and 6) and baby girl (3 months). Jeff was always communicative and helped with anything we needed. The house is even cooler in person. I wish it was a bit warmer so we could have enjoyed the pool (again so beautifully landscaped) although my boys did jump in! The game room was also a highlight for them. Everything in the house is very well equipped, and nicely decorated, comfortable to come back to relax and cook dinner after a long day of hiking. We enjoyed the quiet side of the island and Jeff’s guidebook was a big help. We loved beech hill farm and sweet pea’s cafe as suggested. Beech mountain trail and echo lake beach were also a big hit! Bar harbor and Cadillac mountain etc are about 35 min way but easily accessible and we spent a few days over that way. Would highly recommend and hope to go back one day.

  • What a wonderful space! The house was huge, easily accommodating our mixed age group of 13. Fabulous indoor and outdoor areas. The weather cooperated and we enjoyed eating outside, swimming in the heated pool and making trips to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. I always got immediate responses from Jeff whenever I reached out. Thank you!

  • My team and I really enjoyed our stay in Seal Cove, it's the perfect home base for exploring MDI. Close to trails on the quiet-side and an easy drive to Bar Harbor and attractions like Jordan Pond. The house is well laid out; we had plenty of space to work and bond but also enough places to spread out for alone time. We'll definitely be back later in the season when the pool is open and we need to return for work!

The Rabbit Hole is a secluded, airy cottage perched on a bluff overlooking a quiet cove in Blue Hill Bay. It's located the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island and has some of the best sunset views around. The living room opens out to the deck through a one-of-a-kind 12-foot sliding glass door, with an ocean view. It has a full kitchen, a small dining area and living room, as well as two bedrooms and a loft. A woodsy path leads down to the shoreline and a dock with access to kayaks and rowboats.
The Rabbit Hole at Barnacle Landing is one of 4 cottages on a 40 acre ocean front plot of land. The Rabbit Hole is secluded from the other cottages and has its own parking area. The primary bedroom has a queen bed and the second bedroom has twin beds. In addition to the beds in the two bedrooms, there is a twin bed in the loft, which is open to the living room and accessible by ladder. Washer and dryer are located off the kitchen. A kerosene heater and two wood stoves provide heat for cold nights and mornings.
The Rabbit Hole and the other cottages at Barnacle Landing are situated in a very quiet spot. Southwest Harbor is the closest town, about a 10-15 minute drive away. Bar Harbor is fairly close by as well, about a 20-25 (and beautiful!) minute drive.

  • Wayne and his old, nice dog lives right in the forest with turkeys and deer just outside the window. Waynes house and hospitality is absolutely outstanding - and we loveed the old ranger dog Jimmi. Everything exceeded our expectations; the athomsphere, the cosiness, the extremely tidy and clean apartment and the rest of the house. Great kitchen with everything you need for cooking - and so nice to talk to Wayne to learn about the area. If we ever go back to this part of the world - we'll stay with Wayne and Jimmi the dog again. Wayne is building a Yurt in the forest close to the house. We would love to stay in that yurt next time.

  • We loved our stay at Wayne's! The space was so clean and comfortable, perfect for me and my three friends. We enjoyed access to everything in the kitchen, it was so nice to be able to cook our own meals while out on vacation for the weekend. Wayne was very kind and considerate with our arrival and check out times, letting me come back to shower after my marathon race, which was the absolute best! Really beautiful location and great access to the National Park, would highly recommend!

  • Great stay, exceptionally clean and new place. We'd stay with Wayne again if we were in the area.

  • We were in town for a girls trip and absolutely loved staying at Wayne's. Him and his dog Jimmy were a delight, his place is clean, cozy, and in a great area with close proximity to the rest of the park. Thank you for a wonderful stay, Wayne, we loved your blueberry muffins!!

  • Wayne’s place in Southwest Harbor was very nice. Very clean. Very quiet. Very comfortable. And Nicely decorated. Our host, Wayne, was accommodating. He set up the outside deck for us and visited with us some. We stayed in our own space upstairs where we had everything we needed and more! We cooked a couple meals in the lovely kitchen Wayne shared. Wayne and his very sweet dog, Jimmy, were quiet and friendly. I hope to stay at Wayne’s place again next summer.

    Jane2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Wayne's home is located not too far from the quaint little downtown area of Southwest Harbor. It is a nice stroll into town which offers some nice breakfast options and a great little coffee shop. There are numerous hiking trails only a few miles down the road and Bar Harbor is only about a 25 minute drive, which is definitely worth visiting and going out to in the evening for dinner. It is really nice to have the entire upstairs to yourselves, which also includes a living room with a tv capable of streaming Netflix. Both the bathroom and the bedroom are plenty spacious and comfortable to use. The home was also spotless and Wayne was more than pleasant to talk to and communicate with. All in all, I highly recommend Wayne's lovely home!

  • Upstairs loft with two double beds, small apartment refrigerator, private bath.

    Greg2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Wayne is the ultimate host! We had the best time during our stay with him. Our flight got delayed and he was gracious with us getting there past check in time. When we arrived we were greeted by his sweet 16 year old beagle, Jimmy! He is incredibly sweet and quiet. Wayne’s place is a beautiful custom made house that is unbelievably clean!! He had the most thoughtful touches: coffee, water, trail mix, dishes, fridge etc all upstairs in our own private area. If we needed anything whatsoever Wayne provided it. He has so much knowledge of the area. We didn’t come with much of a plan and all his recommendations were wonderful! As mentioned he has kayaks available and he helped us load/unload them without hesitation. We had a great time drinking wine and getting to know him. We highly recommend Wayne’s home!! We can’t wait to return to try out the future yurt:) Thanks again Wayne!!

Windiana is nestled between towering white pines facing Long Pond a fresh water lake. . This is a less populated part of the pond with untouched Acadia National Park land directly across and to the right. Kayaks and canoes are not included because of liability and can be rented on Long Pond at National Park Canoe rental and delivered to the house prior to your arrival. Windiana III is a three bedroom cottage. It is peaceful as we have a large property, no neighbors nearby, or road traffic. You have just a few steps to the water and a dock. The living room has 16 foot ceilings and a skylight and glass windows on two sides. The master bedroom has a queen bed looking at the lake with a sliding glass door to the deck. The second bedroom has a full bed and a view of the dock and lake. The third bedroom has two single beds. The living room sofa converts to a double bed as well. This room is great for a couple, 2 singles or grandparents. The cottage has a deck and a view of the lake as well. This is the perfect place to relax after visiting Acadia. Enjoy the spectacular view from the decks and watch for loons and eagles. Take an early morning kayak ride while the lake is like glass. Sun and swim on the private dock and explore a fresh water lake. Go on a picnic to Rum Island or Duck Rock. Fish for bass and salmon or just relax on the sofa and look into the blue sky and pine trees. Watch the moon rise over Mansel and curl up in a blanket and star gaze at night. Listen to the call of the loons and enjoy this unique property surrounded by ten acres of woods.
We are located in the Somesville which is part of the town of Mt. Desert. We have access to the ocean, a fresh water lake, mountains, trails, and bike paths. You can kayak, go Whale Watching, take a scenic cruise, or sail on a Windjammer. Some of our renters had taken the bi-plane, gone rock climbing and birding. A must is a Blueberry Mohito at the Claremont, Popovers at Jordan Pond, Lobsters at Thurston's and ice cream at Ben and Bills. The Causeway Club and Kebo Club are great for golfers and don't miss the Claremont Croquet Tournament in August.
  • What a sweet cottage! Our family of five enjoyed the peaceful setting. Our children had a ball playing in the woods around the house and jumping off the dock. The house had all the amenities we needed, and the beds were comfortable — important after long days of hiking and biking through Acadia! We liked the location on the “quiet side” of the island — convenient to everywhere we wanted to go, but out of the way enough to feel secluded and serene. Diana was very hospitable and had great suggestions about where to eat and shop and run. The setting on Long Pond was absolutely beautiful!

  • Great location. Beautiful spot in Long Pond.

    Stuart2019-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • Windiana is a secluded, cozy, modern cottage about 25 min drive from the core of Acadia National Park. It’s right on the water and an excellent place to watch sunsets on the lake.

    Neena2018-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • This was an incredibly peaceful stay! The waterfront property portrayed Maine in its fullest.

    Artem2018-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • great hospitality, dream location, everything as we expected, just a few problems with Wi-Fi connection.

    Stella2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Diana was a great host. The house was fabulous, with incredible view of Long Pond. Everything was clean and comfortable for three adults. If you want peace and quiet with nature all around you, this is the place to be. It is close to Acadia National Park and an easy drive to Bar Harbor. Although we did not meet Diana in person, she made sure we had everything we needed and easy to communicate with. We LOVED our stay.

A beautiful apartment with a lot of light, sliding-glass doors to a patio next to a pond. Modern kitchen and bathroom with granite countertops. Fully equipped kitchen with updated appliances. Close to Acadia National Park attractions, restaurants and shops that are detailed in guides and maps provided for your use.
This apartment is on the bottom floor of a 3 -floor home with it's own entrance and sliding glass doors to the back yard and a view of a small pond.
We are located in the "Quietside" of the island. We are within 10 minutes of beautiful Acadia hiking trails like Pretty Marsh, Ships Harbor, Wonderland and prime Maine spots like the Bass Harbor Lighthouse that is featured on our Maine state quarter. We also live minutes from one of our island's popular restaurants directly on Bass Harbor, Thurstons's Lobster Pound. Our house is located only 20 minutes from famous attractions like Cadillac Mountain, in the beautiful area known as Acadia National Park.
  • The space is comfortable and clean, and is a 20-30 min drive to the hikes in Acadia National Park and to Bar Harbor. We enjoyed our stay here.

  • Spacious, clean and comfortable private apartment below house. Check-in/check-out were a breeze. Rachel communicated promptly with accurate directions and provides a nice book with tips for restaurants, groceries and even rainy day activities (nice!). This place is ideal for a couple staying several days. There is a full-sized kitchen with all the essentials which is extremely convenient. The living room area is ample and inviting to hang out in. Private full bathroom is a must for me and was great to have! WiFi worked great. The place was nice and quiet. We barely heard Rachel and her family above! Location is good. Not too far from Acadia's loop road, but away from Bar Harbor for those looking for fewer crowds and nice drives. Overall, I highly recommend Rachel's place and Rachel's hospitality! The only thing I might wish for is a king bed, but it would be a bit tight ...

    Ricardo2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • It is a very clean and neat apartment, and well equipped with everything you need. You have parking right on the premises, and your own private entrance. The excellent host lives in the apartment above, and is very responsive to any questions you might have. The apartment is in a quiet and secluded area, and we found it to be great for our “downtime” in the evening after hiking trails in Acadia National Park most of the day. We highly recommend it!

    Richard2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel’s place was exactly as we expected. Comfortable, quiet, relaxing and a perfect place to wind down. The bed was super cozy and we slept like babies. The kitchen is conveniently stocked with most things I could think of. The location was close to Bass Harbor Trail, which was one of our favorite hikes! We would definitely recommend this home to anyone looking to chill out and be lazy after a long, adventurous day.

    JoBeth2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • This lovely little apartment is a great place to stay for a few days! Rachel is a wonderful host and was responsive to all messages. She provided a notebook with information on the area, including menus and recommendations for stores, gas and restaurants. The decor is cozy and the spacious rooms are really clean. We arrived late and didn't have time to shop for groceries so the morning coffee was a real treat. We also really loved the soft bath towels! The apartment is located on the quiet side of the island, near the lighthouse which was perfect for us. Thanks for hosting us Rachel!

    Mary2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious, lovingly furnished and very clean apartment with everything you need to feel good. There is also a small terrace. Acadia National Park (about 30 minutes), shops and restaurants are only accessible by car. We felt very comfortable with Rachel.

    Elena2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Incredibly clean and comfortable environment. The dark curtains on the bedroom windows are an especially nice touch for travelers coming from different time zones who might want to sleep in.

Come stay at our family's beautiful ocean front cottage looking out at Sawyer's Cove. The cottage was built in 1961 with a kitchen renovation in 2008. Sleeps 10, secluded quiet home with spectacular views. Dock access and tent platform available.
This cozy cottage has all the charm of a summer camp with the modern luxuries of a recently built home. The common space has high open ceilings and the dining area can easily accommodate 10 people. The views from our home are unforgettable.
Our cottage is located down a mile long dirt driveway- it's incredibly quiet, private, and secluded, but is only a fifteen minute drive to South West Harbor.
  • The view is spectacular! Comfortable house with well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed the screened patio.

    Jennifer2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • The views here are more amazing then the pictures represent! It is definitely on the “quiet” side of the island so a little bit of a drive from shopping/attractions, but def worth it to come back after a busy day to a spacious beautiful view! Our favorite thing was ordering cooked lobster from local Hodgson’s seafood and bringing it home to eat at sunset!

    Sara2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing holiday house! Perfect for our group of 7 adults, and 3 more could definitely have been accommodated. We had a wonderful stay.

  • this is a very special place in a beautiful location. we had the most relaxing time. as others have noted, the space is large with high ceilings and there is only one heat source - but we were still comfortable in mid september.

    Kate2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • This cozy cabin on the water was perfect for our 8-person group. It was so beautiful and comfortable that we hardly wanted to leave to go explore the rest of the island. The large, well-stocked kitchen and open living area was great for a large group, and each bedroom had its own cozy personality. Everything was clean and organized, and our communications with the hosts were speedy and helpful. Would definitely stay here again!

"Northern Nest" cottage right on Long Pond has a lot to offer. Tucked between tall white oaks and deep blue water, this house is only a brief boat ride down the lake from Acadia National Park. It is close to Bar Harbor and many park attractions, but you'll understand why this part of Mount Desert Island is referred to as "The Quiet Side." Our home is perfect for families or groups who want a modern, relaxing refuge close to nature. We can't wait for you to make it your home, too.
The house has new wood floors, overhead lighting and up-to-date amenities (washer/dryer, WiFi, etc.). The home is decorated in a warm “modern cottage” aesthetic with new furniture complementing antiques sourced from around the state. The back deck comes with a full outdoor dining set and a grill. The backyard has plenty of room for kids to play games and run around. The new dock, only steps from the house, is perfect for swimming and sunbathing.
What makes this place special is the gorgeous lake right in your backyard! There is a boat rental facility right down the road - where you can paddleboard, canoe, or kayak right into Acadia National Park. If boats aren't your thing, you can still swim around to take in the view. Here on The Quiet Side, you also have access to amazing hikes many visitors don't know about. Please reach out if you have any other questions about amenities at the cottage, or exploring the island. Our family has spent summers here for three generations, and so we are happy to give you advice about what to see and do.
  • Amazing location! House is perfect. Dock is wonderful. Loved everything about it.

  • This home is so pretty, spotlessly clean, and beautifully decorated. It had a lovely dock that rests on a perfect lake. It is roomy and has a nicely outfitted kitchen. We would definitely stay here again.

  • Beautiful home right on long pond, very secluded and quiet. House was well equipped.

    Maureen2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great house and location! We loved having access to Long Pond, and all the hiking trails and restaurants were a quick 20 minute drive away

    Anthony2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • This home is quite a gem. It was very quiet, restful and very comfortable. The owners are wonderful. They were very attentive and made sure we were happy with our stay. As they solicited comments, and as we do enjoy grilling outdoors we noticed there were no gas grill cooking utensils. No problem, we can get by. I mentioned this to them and the next day they they delivered a new set of Weber cooking utensils! That was above and beyond in my opinion. The kitchen also has 2 ovens for those that like to cook. We enjoyed swimming, kayaking and fishing off the new dock. There's a kayak rental outfit a short kayak trip at the head of the pond. The house situated centrally and is approximately 10 to 15 minutes to Bar Harbor, Acadia NP, and Southwest Harbor. We went to sleep each night listening to the loons, very peaceful. - Dan

    Dan2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures don’t do justice. As you approach the kitchen for your morning coffee, the sunlight is sparkling on the water below, and flooding through the windows. The owners have taken time to provide the guest with almost every amenity from home: a kitchen equipped with pots, pans, utensils, ( lovely sharp knives! ) potholders, aprons, water bottles, basic spices, trash bags, herb garden outside, flashlights ... the list goes on. The laundry area is treated in much the same manner. The office area is complete with basic needs: tape, stapler, pens, reliable wi-fi... Bedrooms each have large box fans, plenty of clothing storage and clean, comfy linens. We had a lovely time spending mornings on the dock, enjoying the lake before heading to Acadia National Park for hikes and biking. Beech Hill Farm is a stones throw away for fresh produce. This is an older home that has been beautifully updated. The owners and caretaker are attentive and quick to respond. The refrigerator needed to be replaced just as we arrived, but our hosts were very communicative and even provided us with a huge cooler full of ice ( and chilled champagne) to get us through the first day before the new fridge arrived. All you can ask for is quick action and sensitivity when these things happen- and that’s what we got. This one is a winner. A perfect blend of MDI camp life with all the amenities.

Come stay among moss covered spruce woods in our village of tiny homes and misfit animals, a short walk from the lakes and mountains of Acadia National Park. Bike less than three miles to see the sunset and picnic by the ocean. Ride the carriage trails to swim at Seal Cove and Long ponds and to hike up the western mountains. Take a short drive to the villages of Southwest and Bass Harbor for fresh seafood and nighttime entertainment. Even enjoy avant-garde theater in a rustic barn by the sea.
This Yurt is built of split maple poles. There is a skylight in the center of the roof to let in the morning sun. There is a loft made from an arched cedar log, a full sized bed, a sink, counter and shelves.
If you want to buy a boiled lobster on the docks, go to Thurstons restaurant just 6 miles away!
  • As a city girl with the goal of giving my dog the best birthday trip ever, I decided to do a trip to this yurt in Maine. I am not the camping type but I must say the hosts made everything as easy as possible that even a noob like me survived during a pretty bitter MLK weekend. The animals in their farm were adorable. The spring water was yummy. The yurt was cozy. Bring extra blankets and pillows! And of course if your coming in the winter some extra fire starters and dry wood Can really save your butt. Their is a plug for your phone but be mindful it is a usb/car outlet. My dog ended up having the time of your life 10/10 will recommend. Will come again.

    Kimberly2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome experience, the yurt was warm, comfortable and easy to access. Well equipped for cooking/relaxing. The farm is great to explore, and the hosts are fantastic!

  • A magical escape, we loved our stay at the Howling.

    Amelia2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • Fox’s Hollow was the perfect secluded getaway, it was a fantastic experience getting off the grid for a bit. The yurt is very cozy and has all the amenities for a comfortable carefree stay. Candace and Brendan are wonderful hosts and have created quite the fairytale getaway the Howling Woods. Great spot to explore be sure to visit Cedar and Ike up at the farm. Definitely will return for another visit!

    Leah2019-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • AMAZING AIRBNB. I really enjoyed the amenities inside the yurt; lots of thoughtful touches to keep us cozy and get through our stay with comfort in mind! There were assorted teas, hand warmers, and candles inside! The bedding kept us super warm despite it being snowy weather. I also really liked that there was a binder inside the yurt with all of the details of the area including how to use the wood stove, where to find restrooms, shower house, and water well. I also found the hosts to be VERY VERY helpful and attentive, whenever we ran into them around the premises they were very friendly and always asked how we were doing. We were planning to do a lobster boil and Candace so generously offered me one of their personal pots to use! Advice I would give to prospective guests is to thoroughly read the description of the airbnb; most notably (and understandably) there is no running water inside the yurt, a few light sources inside, and a few outlets for electricity. I found it helpful to bring a headlamp! Definitely a fun, cozy, rustic place to stay!

    Lora2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • A fairytale experience. Expect a comfortable camping experience. When we visited in November, the woodstove made for cozy evenings. We appreciated bringing our own pillows and a small folding table.

    Brett2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute cozy place! Highly recommend staying here!

    Arianna2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Howling woods, it was so peaceful and quiet, especially when it rained at night. Candice was extremely responsive to my questions answering them right away. The experience itself was a glorified camping experience, we had brought our dog which was so much fun in the yurt. There were some great unexpected features as we knew we were staying "off the grid". There was a propane stove, small lights that lit up the whole yurt, as well as a little charging station for our phones. The wood stove was perfect for keeping the yurt warm in the chilly nights, there was a great fire pit and it was an awesome feature that there was plenty of seasoned wood available for our use There was a well available for fresh water as well as an adorable misfit farm on the property. Everything seemed to be within a 20-30 minute drive which we were ok with. Yummy restaurants such as Charlottes and side street grille and great hikes all throughout the area made the drives worth while. We especially liked the old Rockefeller property because we could have our dog off leash and there were some great trails! Even saw a bald eagle as we were on our way off the island. Must stop shop is def Bark harbor if you have a dog they were all so nice in there! Geddys in down town bar harbor had some delicious drinks as well! Acadia was mind blowing, def spend some time there, but enjoy the peace and quiet of the yurt when you return. Over all we had such a lovely 4 day getaway. Just perfection! Thank you!!

There is an airiness to this dome-shaped hut. Light streams in from the skylight directly overhead. It is located in a sunny clearing across the creek from the other homes, a short walk from the outhouse and a well where you can fill your water bottles with fresh spring water. Take a walk across the road to Seal Cove Pond and the mountain trails of Acadia. Bike less than 3 miles down the Cape road to an ocean picnic spot with a beautiful sunset view. Super cozy for winter stays with a wood stove
A short distance from Southwest Harbor, our huts in the middle of a spruce forest are not only a peaceful place to stay, but they also give our guests a very rustic experience. A cozy stove and a lofted bed make for a great winter experience. You can open the door, put on your snow shoes and be on your way! In the summer warmer months there are near by lakes to cool off in after enjoying one of many local hikes.
We are 6 miles from Thurstons Lobster Pound! We are about 15 minutes from Southwest Harbor, 30 minutes from Bar Harbor. There are lots of hikes, lakes and park trails just minutes from us, as well as the ones in Bar Harbor. Friends of ours down the road also host artist residencies from spring to fall with weekly shows. We have a small farm on our land with emus, chickens, ducks, geese, goats, pigs and a mini horse.
  • Great secluded place to stay for those who like to get off the beaten path. Loved the cozy feeling of the log heater and cool lights. It was nice to have a gas stove to make breakfast, as well as a fire pit. Farm was also fun to explore.

  • Wonderful experience! Great hosts. Very rustic in the winter.

  • The Howling Woods is easily the most unique place I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Walking through the woods felt like a real life fairytale, and getting to see the animals was amazing. Candace and Brendan were very accommodating and great hosts. The location is peaceful and perfect, being a short distance from Bar Harbor village, but far enough to feel like you're in a wilderness retreat. Would 10/10 recommend and will certainly be back!

    Noelle2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A really amazing stay! It got to -3° and we had no issue staying warm in there! We can't wait to come visit again! Easily our best stay yet!

  • I stayed at Little Frog for a few nights over the New Year. Highly recommend staying here in the colder months! The wigwam has a wood-fired stove that warms the place up quickly and cozily. The location from the property to so many spots along Arcadia that I wanted to try were about 30 minutes, that flew by due to scenery. The farm and all it’s animals are a wonderful addition- loved the puppy, Cedar. Candace & Brendan were great hosts- fast to respond with questions, otherwise left alone

    Mary2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing! If you need to get the creative juices flowing, this is the place to stay at! It was how I imagined a lost boy would live: out in the woods, able to choose what you do that day and knowing that Peter Pan and Wendy are nearby to help with anything if you need it. If you’re looking for adventure and a new experience that stimulates the imagination- you’ll want to stay here! From early quiet mornings to a day in the woods and then the stars at night- it is just beautiful! And hearing and seeing the animals around just enhances the experience. I highly recommend the place for those who are looking for a break and a bit of adventure!

    Hannah2019-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • 100% recommend staying here if you want a perfect halfway between camping and being somewhere cozy. It had everything we needed, the property was lovely and Brendan and Candace are super friendly, communicative, and accommodating. An incredibly unique and charming experience!

Sat-Sat weekly. 800 SF A sweet 3 BR 1 BA cottage in the woods of Pretty Marsh. An absolute gem of a vacation hide-a-way! Nestled into a very private, wooded, 2-acre setting, this lovingly cared for cottage may make you feel like you're off in the great North woods, but you're really only minutes away from the ocean and Acadia National Park. This is real get-away-from-it-all vacationing, while still withing a few minutes' drive of all that Mt. Desert Island and Acadia National Park have to offer.
A great place to come back to at the end of the day after hiking the trails of Acadia National Park or exploring the coast of Maine. Truthfully, with the great deck and quiet surroundings, you may decide it's the best place to spend your day! First floor: open-plan with living/dining/kitchen, deck, master bedroom, 2-twins bedroom, and full bath. Second floor: open full bedroom, sitting area. Weekly Rental: Saturday-Saturday 7 night bookings only please. Linens & towels provided. No Pets. No Smoking.
Secluded and private in a beautiful wooded setting in Pretty Marsh.
  • This cabin was exactly what we were looking for, something completely private that gave us the ability to be "away from it all." The property is down a private road and you can barely see another house through the woods, so it felt properly private to us. I have Verizon and had difficulty getting a signal over most of the island but my husband has AT&T and had a signal at the cottage. The cottage is spacious, with plenty of room in the loft above and the two bedrooms on the ground floor. We cooked breakfast each morning in the well-equipped kitchen and cooked dinner on the outdoor grill in the evenings. The house is clearly well taken care of, down to the walkway to the house brushed clear of leaves and a pumpkin and mum to decorate the front porch. We purposely wanted to be on the "quiet side" of the island, but never had to drive longer than 25 minutes to get to any destinations within Acadia.

  • The bayberry cottage is a cute place to relax in while on MDI. The location is very quiet and private. We enjoyed our stay very much. Just know that you will most likely not have cell service here, so research whatever you need before arriving. The cottage is comfortable and has all the necessary amenities for a relaxing stay in the woods!

  • This cabin is a slice of heaven that we plan to visit again – perhaps in the late summertime for a change of season! Such a cozy spot to make home for a couple of days with all the fixings for true disconnect and embracing the nature around you. Such a convenient location for all Mount Desert Island has to offer and the off-season lends it self to making it feel like you have it all to yourself to explore.

    Katherine2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect place to unplug. Located far enough away from the "busy" stuff on the island but still close enough to quickly travel too. Cabin was cozy, the wood burning stove was the best!

  • Awesome place to stay near Acadia National Park. The "cabin" is really beautiful, well equipped and everything is absolutely peaceful. We warmingly recommend it.

  • A great secluded cabin that had everything we needed for a family of 6 on our spring break. I only wish we had more time to stay and take the kayaks out in the water.

Situated on the pastoral side of MDI, this secluded home sets atop a high spruce meadow knoll with a breathtaking view of Western Mtn and within walking distance to the sea. Its the perfect retreat for families and nature lovers visiting Acadia Park.
Situated on almost 12 acres, this diverse habitat of old meadows, apple trees, blueberry ground, cedar and spruce groves drew me right in. I've had a small garden business for years and hope to bring some of this land back to production in the future. Meantime, the location is superb. You'll feel nestled with Robbins Hill behind you on this private site, yet always, Western Mtn is before you and I'm reminded of a little Switzerland. Within walking distance is Seal Cove Landing, a favorite place for kayaking, picnicking, and watching sunsets. Seal Cove Pond public boat launch is a walk to the bottom of the hill. Rent a canoe and paddle across to Park trails. Or on quiet days wander right here where osprey and eagles commonly feed by the outlet stream of the Pond or relax on a deck or hammock and watch the birds. Endless walking and running trails are either right out the door or a quick drive down the road, along with pristine fresh water swimming at Long Pond. The night sky is excellent here and can be seen moving throughout the night from the great room's high windows, Deer visit the apple trees and coyotes and owls can sometimes be heard. The previous owners very carefully created an oasis for wildlife, including a lovely pond where frogs and dragonflies breed. When you're ready for adventure, culture, dining out or shopping, the surrounding area offers multitudes of opportunities. Bar Harbor is 30 min. away. Much less congested are Southwest Harbor (15 min)and Bass Harbor(10 min). with their array of take out and fine restaurants, bars, shops, galleries, libraries, massage, yoga, cruises, fishing trips, music and live theatre venues..golf. This house is a great place for friends and family to gather with its spacious chalet style great room designed for wildlife watching and inside activities. The front room has a picture window for mtn watching, a large activity or dining table, card table, and full size sofa bed. Some of the central kitchen is open to common areas and outdoor vistas as well. A half bath is downstairs and a light and airy bath upstairs, with tub, shower, toilet, and vanity sink, newly remodeled. The larger master bedroom has a new queen size bed, lights for reading and mtn view. A second front bedroom is smaller with another queen bed, lights and mtn view. The third has 2 twin beds and a window to the great room and its skylight. All 3 bedrooms are upstairs and all have bureaus and ample closet space. There is a 4th finished basement walkout room containing a queen bed and single futon, bureaus and lamps. Its well lit with windows and views to the pond, back lawn and woods. Access is thru the basement laundry room/ storage area and the closest half bathroom is on the main floor. The cellar has a washer and dryer available to guests and there are clotheslines out back. An open porch faces the mtn and a larger deck with gas grill and outdoor furniture faces south off the great room in the back. The kitchen is fully equipped with large fridge and dishwasher, coffeemakers, blender, baking equipment etc.
This property alone could be a family, friend, or artist's retreat. Or a place to retreat to after enjoying Acadia Natl Park and Mount Desert Island.
  • Peg’s place is on remote side of Mt. Desert Island & a drive from Bar Harbor. Keep this is mind & I recommend you have a map of the island before you go. Also recommend that you look/study map & get acclamated with places in the island before you go. Some parts of Mt. Dessert Island has no cell service. Peg provides a map that you can use.

    Jasmin2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Peg's house was perfect for our family. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook at home and we enjoyed big family meals by putting two tables together. We loved all the different hang out spaces. There was room for some to read quietly, others played cards and kids were able to draw and play and ride thier bikes in the driveway. My husband and I loved the options for several quiet dirt road bike rides a short distance from the house. There are also many hikes within 15 mins and a walking path right out the back door. We all loved location of the house and would definitely stay there again.

    Rachael2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice and comfortable older home on a beautiful property. The home is quite spacious with two living areas and a large kitchen. There are three bedrooms and an oversized bathroom upstairs. There is ample natural light and the property and views are gorgeous. The home is equipped with everything you could possibly need and even had a pack-n-play and a box of toys/games for our little ones. Peg is a great host and was immediately responsive to our needs. We would definitely stay again. Thanks Peg!

    Marcia2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Peg’s place was perfect for our family of five. We could have fit many more. The great room is well appointed and spacious. The property is stunning with fun extra adventures like a trail to Seal Cove. We had everything we needed here for our first visit to Acadia. This quietside is a bit further from the more popular Acadia Park trails, so we could enjoy the quiet. The laundry was great for after hiking clothes cleaning. The bathroom was clean and fresh. The towels were fluffy and huge. There was plenty of space to spread out and porches to take in lots of outstanding views.

    Katy2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here! Peg was super nice. She left the lights on as we drove in super late on our check in date and that was a nice warming touch to drive up to a lit house. She was very nice and courteous during our stay letting us have our space and feel like this was our home away from home for the few days we were there! Great host - great house with lots of bedrooms and space to hang out and just be in the wilderness of Tremont. I recommend you stay here on your visit to Acadia!

    Jonathon2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • It is ideal for people looking for a quiet place surrounded by nature. Peg was very prompt in replying to our questions and needs. It is a clean and well maintained home. She had beautiful flower arrangements in the house made from the flowers in her backyard.

    Pratibha2019-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible house; the great room is even more wonderful than in the pictures. Lots of space, and in a wonderful and quiet location. 25 minute drive to Acadia National park. Loved it, would come back in a second!

    Mette2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed staying at Peg's place for a few days on a holiday weekend. It's on the Quietside of MDI, which was equally fun and had just as many things to do as near Bar Harbor / the more populated side of the island. Loved being in nature at her place, and it was plenty big enough for us (especially since it was just 5 of us). Recommend for people hoping to enjoy Acadia and wanting to stay somewhere that is spacious, has a kitchen, and more in nature than all of Bar Harbor's Inns.

This lakefront gem is privately sited on the northwest arm of Long Pond. Go for a paddle (canoe and row boat provided!), swim, or just relax and enjoy the view. All on one level, the cottage has living/dining room (with woodstove for chilly evenings), kitchen, two bedrooms and a full bath. There is a large deck and large covered porch where you can enjoy the view of Long Pond and the mountains beyond. You'll no doubt hear the loons call from this comfortable home! Lovely home on the shore of Long Pond. There is no internet access here, but there is a cell phone booster that works for most carriers. Wifi can be found in the villages at the libraries or in Bar Harbor the downtown wifi hotspot.
  • The place was amazing. The view to the pond in the morning and afternoon was so relaxing. Jessica was very nice send all the information to my email with directions which helped so much. Place was clean and very well organized. I love to cook and even we were on vacation we had breakfast in every morning and some lunches and dinners in as well and one think that really call my attention it was that they have a lot of spices, salt, sugar which most places don’t. That was so helpful and a nice touch. I definitely recommend the cottage all thumbs up.

Cozy one floor ranch in picturesque Southwest Harbor. This house is nestled in the woods in a quiet neighborhood. Conveniently located one mile from Long pond, and less than one mile to Acadia National Park and downtown Southwest Harbor offering specialty shopping, dining, and a marina. Living space includes open floor plan, large sectional couch, and 55 inch television. Great for a family or group of friends! Outdoor deck and grill and fenced in backyard with dog door!
  • Great house in a quiet location close to downtown Southwest Harbor. Owner is very responsive. Would highly recommend.

  • Excellent location, very close to downtown of Southwest Harbor. You are only several minutes away from the parks trails, restaurants and a supermarket. The house is very clean and comfortable. We loved our stay!

    Tanya2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Just as expected from description. Clean home, convenient location - a delicious coffee shop nearby and not far from the public bus stop. Close to many hiking trails. Good communication from owner. Happy with our stay. :)

  • Erica’s home is in a quiet neighborhood. The home is a short drive to shops and restaurants of Southwest Harbor. We brought our dogs along with us and they loved the large fenced in yard behind the home. The house had cable and excellent WiFi service for the times we needed to work while away. Erica stocks the house with basic necessities needed to start a vacation and we appreciated that linens were provided. We had a nice stay.

    Cara2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • The house was well stocked and convenient to hikes and restaurants. It's great for dogs, the back yard is completely fenced in. When we had a question Erica responded right away. We had a wonderful time and would stay there again.

  • A beautiful home on a beautiful island with an awesome host and plenty of room for our family of 5. Recommended! Just be aware that it is a 20- to 30-minute drive from many of Acadia National Park's main attractions.

    Matt2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • The property was really nice. Very spacious. Great location and excellent value. Erica was very responsive.

    Andrea2018-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay in Southwest Harbor! The cozy ranch was the ideal family friendly, dog friendly base from which to explore Acadia and Mt. Desert Island. The space and amenities were just as described and pictured. Erica was a super responsive and generous host, both before and during our stay. We had limited cargo space and didn’t want to bring anything we could live without, so we were delighted that Erica provided the bulkier items we have had to bring to other rentals (bed linens, towels, beach towels, blankets for stargazing). The house was well equipped with most kitchen equipment and household supplies like trash bags, cleansers, etc. However, we saw no pantry basics beyond salt & pepper shakers and a few packets of sugar. So depending on what you plan to cook, you may want to pack your own seasonings and special tools like a blender or whisk. Our dog loved running around the enclosed yard, and it was easy to clean up after him with the provided shovel and pail. The super comfy sectional was a huge draw for our teenagers after a day of hiking and biking. Erica’s cozy ranch was a terrific home away from home, and we would not hesitate to return on our next visit to Acadia.
