We renovated a two-story earthen-walled storehouse built in the Edo period and turned it into a guest house. Although it is not spacious, a kitchen with an IH hotplate has been installed on the first floor while retaining the atmosphere of a storehouse with its earthen walls and thick beams. The first and second floors are fully air-conditioned for a comfortable stay. You can experience the soundproofing unique to a storehouse, the coolness in summer, and the warmth in winter. There is a sauna facility about 5 minutes away by car, Anekawa Onsen about 15 minutes away, and Kita-Omi-no-Yu about 20 minutes away. There are many tourist spots unique to Nagahama, which has often been the stage for history, in the surrounding area. Hikone Castle, a national treasure, Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Nagahama Castle, Ishida Mitsunari's birthplace, Kotani Castle, one of Japan's premier mountain castles, and Shizugatake, a battlefield, etc. It is also less than a 20-minute drive to the Sekigahara Battle site. Besides the area around Lake Biwa, there are plenty of things to enjoy besides history, such as Nagahama Tetsudo Square, Japan's oldest railway station building, the Yanmar Museum, where children can also play, and Kurokabe Square. You can also enjoy gourmet food such as Omi beef, duck dishes, grilled mackerel somen, noppei udon, salad bread, duck, and small ayu.

The swimming pool at Lake Biwa is within 10 minutes by car, Taga Shrine, Nagahama's black wall and Yamma Museum, and Shiga's most popular La Coruña are within 30 minutes by car, and Kansai's leading Glansnow Okuibuki Ski Resort is within an hour, so you can visit the tourist attractions of Shiga Prefecture from this facility. Matsubara Swimming Pool, the venue for the Birdman Contest, a summer tradition on Lake Biwa, is within 10 minutes by car. For those who come by bicycle, there is a covered bicycle parking space. Built in the early Showa era and long used as a tea ceremony classroom, the townhouse has been reborn as a private rental inn, "Kyomachiya Cottage karigane". It is a 1-minute walk to the hot springs and Daikokuji Temple, which has deep ties to tea. Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

To ensure you enjoy the stay to the fullest, I set check-in and check-out time to both 12:00 Noon. So you can stay up for 24 hours with one night booking. YAMANOTE HOUSE is accessible from major Kansai stations with 37min from Kyoto Sta. or 65min from Osaka Sta. If you come by car from Kyoto it takes less than 1 hour. The area aournd the house is once small castle town. The house is located next to the Shrine, Hiyoshi-Jinja, where the Omizo Festival is held on May 3 and 4 every year.
