In the summer, you can also play in the water at the nearby river and unwind in the midst of nature in a tent sauna (additional charge). We all cooked together in the fully equipped kitchen of the former café, read quietly in the library, and so on. You can spend your "favorite time" freely. It is about 1 hour by car from downtown Kyoto, and if you come by train, it is about 20 minutes by bus from JR Kosei Line Azumigawa Station, or about 10 minutes by taxi. It is popular with overseas customers, families, and groups. A BBQ set is also available for rent. We also rent BBQ equipment for a fee, so please let us know. Free parking is available on the premises. Parking is available for up to 3 regular vehicles. For large vehicles, it may be difficult to park 3, so please inquire in advance. If you contact us in advance, we can rent it for a fee. There are also plenty of outdoor facilities in the surrounding area, so please use it as a base for your activities. Haruya Guesthouse

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

I am an Artist / Photographer born in Kyoto I started hosting because I love meeting people from all over the world and making new friends. This place used to be one big guesthouse, but during Covid19, I have stopped running the guesthouse and I moved in with my wife and 2 kids. Still I didn't want to give up so I left the good parts. Private cypress bath and renovated rooms and made another entrance for the Guests. So now it is 2 separate house Please check the house rules before you book.

To ensure you enjoy the stay to the fullest, I set check-in and check-out time to both 12:00 Noon. So you can stay up for 24 hours with one night booking. YAMANOTE HOUSE is accessible from major Kansai stations with 37min from Kyoto Sta. or 65min from Osaka Sta. If you come by car from Kyoto it takes less than 1 hour. The area aournd the house is once small castle town. The house is located next to the Shrine, Hiyoshi-Jinja, where the Omizo Festival is held on May 3 and 4 every year.

Artist Teahouse & Skate Garden near Lake Biwa

A small artist retreat in rural Japan near Lake Biwa. This traditional house has been slowly transformed through DIY renovation into a quiet space inspired by a modern teahouse. The garden features a hand-built skate landscape that blends into the land — somewhere between sculpture and playground. Part of the house also functions as a small café. Surrounded by fields and star-filled night skies, it offers a slower rhythm of countryside life. Only one hour from Kyoto.

Kurazo is limited to one group, and can accommodate from 2 to 6 people, with a private Shigaraki stoneware bathtub.

This guesthouse is a renovated 120-year-old traditional Japanese house located in the merchant town of Omi Hino, overlooking Mt. Watamuki in the Suzuka Mountains of Shiga Prefecture, with the concept of "nostalgic yet new." The townscape of Hino itself is somehow nostalgic and calming. "Watamukiyama Village" was born in a corner of this town in 2019. Accommodation is limited to one group at a time, and the accommodation fee starts from the rate for two people.
