[House Story] This house was born out of my childhood dream of living in a Nordic home.It all started with my longing for a cozy cabin like the ones in stories and for the tranquility of nature. After living in Sweden and New Zealand, I returned to Japan and, together with my husband, Andy, took over a cabin that was scheduled for demolition just one month later. This house was carefully renovated by my wife and me, one detail at a time, like a work of art. This is the old house rental [Kokoro]. This is a private house that can be rented out to one group per day, where you can feel the abundant nature of Shiga Prefecture close at hand and enjoy rural life. It is a nice, old, calm space that can accommodate up to 10 people. Please relax with your family and friends. It is about 1 hour by car from downtown Kyoto, and if you come by train, it is about 20 minutes by bus or 10 minutes by taxi from Adogawa Station on the JR Kosai Line. It is popular with overseas guests, families, and groups. We also rent out a BBQ set (equipment) for a fee, so please feel free to ask. There is free parking available on the property. Parking is available for up to 3 regular-sized vehicles. For large vehicles, it may be difficult to accommodate three, so please inquire in advance. If you consult with us in advance, we can also rent out space for a fee. We also offer free bicycle rentals. There are also plenty of outdoor facilities in the surrounding area, so please use it as a base for your activities. Please also use it as a base while cycling around Lake Biwa. Haruya Guesthouse

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

To ensure you enjoy the stay to the fullest, I set check-in and check-out time to both 12:00 Noon. So you can stay up for 24 hours with one night booking. YAMANOTE HOUSE is accessible from major Kansai stations with 37min from Kyoto Sta. or 65min from Osaka Sta. If you come by car from Kyoto it takes less than 1 hour. The area aournd the house is once small castle town. The house is located next to the Shrine, Hiyoshi-Jinja, where the Omizo Festival is held on May 3 and 4 every year.

This is the only guest house (entire house rental) facing Shinmachi Street in an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. The streets lined with merchants' houses, built in the late Edo period to the Meiji era, give you a strange feeling as if time has stopped when you step into it. This Shinmachi neighborhood is important not only for its scenery but also as a historical site. This is a very rare accommodation where you can stay in such an area.
