We renovated a two-story storehouse built in the Edo period and made it into a guest house. Although it is not spacious, a kitchen with an IH cooking heater is installed on the first floor, while maintaining the atmosphere of a storehouse with its earthen walls and thick beams. The first and second floors are equipped with air conditioning for a comfortable stay. You can experience the sound insulation, summer coolness, and winter warmth unique to a storehouse. If you like, you can enjoy coffee made with freshly ground beans. Sister-gawa Onsen and Ibuki Yakuza-Yu are about 15 minutes away by car. We can provide you with a ticket for Sankawa Onsen (cheaper than the regular price). Please contact us about pick-up and drop-off. There are many tourist spots unique to Nagahama, which has often been the stage of history. Hikone Castle, a National Treasure, Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Nagahama Castle, the birthplace of Ishida Mitsunari, one of Japan's leading mountain castles, Otaki, the site of the battle, and others. Haruya Guesthouse

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

This place used to be one big guesthouse, but during Covid19, I have stopped running the guesthouse and I moved in with my wife and 2 kids. Still I didn't want to give up so I left the good parts. Private cypress bath and renovated rooms and made another entrance for the Guests. So now it is 2 separate house Please check the house rules before you book.

We can do tea ceremony, if you want. We have 2 toilet and 1 bath room with big bath tab made by a Japanese special wood, Hinoki. There is a 24h super market, Okuwa near the house.(5 min away by a car) And high rank Japanese beef restaurant(2 min by a car) You can enjoy Yakiniku.

「Tabitabi Taishi」 remodeled from a traditional Japanese-style [Machiya]. It is designed with a lot of hand-dyed Japanese style Tang paper, wallpapers made of tin and gold foils, and other traditional Japanese crafts and elements. We also retain the original properties of the machiya.
