Vacation rentals with a kayak in Avery County

If you are looking for a private place to stay this is it. I did not take my boat this trip but if I had I would be extremely comfortable knowing it was safe. The mountains surrounding the house are beautiful. We rented a pontoon boat on Lake Watauga for the day (225.00) and really enjoyed it. Judson and Deanne were very friendly and made sure our stay was a success.

This property was perfect for our family gathering. Lots of spaces to gather and the kitchen was well stocked. It was so nice to have the water toys and dock. We rented a pontoon from Patrick (a local person recommended in the property binder) who delivered it to the dock and then came back and picked it up. We enjoyed the fire pit and appreciated the wood that was available. Can’t wait to plan to stay here again next year!

We had a truly wonderful stay at Skipping Stones Getaway with our family of five. From the moment we arrived, it felt like a peaceful retreat—surrounded by beautiful views and the kind of quiet that instantly helps you unwind. Christie and Donaven have thought of everything. The house was fully stocked with all the essentials (and then some). From extra phone charging cables to those little items you might forget to pack, it was clear they’ve put a lot of care and attention into making guests feel at home. We spent our days out on the lake kayaking, soaking up the calm and beauty of the surroundings, and our evenings enjoying quality time together around the fire. It was the perfect mix of fun and relaxation. Skipping Stones Getaway is the kind of place you want to return to. Highly recommend for anyone looking to slow down, recharge, and make lasting memories in a truly lovely setting.

Such a great house! We loved it. The place was extremely clean upon arrival. It was well stocked with everything we needed for the weekend and not at all cluttered. Great location. We hiked Grandfather mountain, Shortoff mountain, and Hawksbill. All great hikes and easy to get to. We also spent an afternoon kayaking on Lake James. It was very peaceful with large, calm coves. Great place to stay and I hope to be back.

Had another enjoyable week at Ross’s Retreat. So much room to relax and enjoy the beautiful lake & Mountain View’s. The 2 kayaks always a plus. Hopefully will be back again next year. Thanks again.

Paul was so quick to respond to any questions I had. He was also very friendly and helpful. Heavens Gate, WOW, the name says it all. The cabin is so beautiful and very well decorated. When you first walk in, you're on the second floor. There's large sliding doors that lead outside to the deck that has the most amazing views of the lake. It is truly breathtaking! They have a very well equipped kitchen. It has a regular pot & a K-cup maker which came in handy. There are games, tv, great wifi and an awesome hot tub! The hot tub was hot and clean. We quickly unpacked, made a mimosa and jumped right in. That view, also amazing! The Wifi worked outside to play tunes while we soaked in the tub & amazing views. The road was scary for this FL girl, but you do get use to it. Also deer walked around the house and we saw an eagle. The beds were super cozy and there were plenty of dressers to unpack. The master shower was so nice. I can go on and on... just book it, you will not regret it!

This home is 100% Virgo approved!! It was immaculate and decorated beautifully, very comfy, too! There were gorgeous views from almost every room. Well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Within a short distance to West Jefferson and Boone, where we had some wonderful meals. This home is a gem!!

The house was outstandingly beautiful! Neighborhood was quiet and exclusive. The porch had a beautiful view. The grill was a nice feature to have. We enjoyed our stay. House was clean. It was nice to have an option to use a canoe. It rained most of our visit so we did not get the chance to take it out. The walk to the lake is not far but it is all uphill on the way back.

Eagles peak was a comfortable place to stay near the Sugar Hollow wedding that we came to attend. The living room was great, kitchen was full of pans, etc with coffee maker, ice maker, lots of storage. We appreciated the basket of cooking spices. Several of our party enjoyed the hot tub and the extensive deck was great! Lots of places to sit - sun, shade, rocking chair, picnic table. We saw a doe and baby deer from the deck, lots of birds on the wire and flitting around the bushes. A couple people went to the nearby winery and mercantile, they were able to pick up a few necessities there without driving far. We had dinner in Boone one evening, not too far, (the other dinners were at the wedding venue). Julie was quick to respond to questions and had excellent suggestions of places to visit and eat. It was a wonderful family gathering.

We have rented homes on Watauga 15+ times and this so far has been our favorite. It’s very obvious how well the home and outside is cared for. The patio, furniture, and dock are all so clean. I have found that a lot of places lack that part. It was so nice to be able to paddleboard and kayak without paying extra. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. I highly recommend this house and plan to return for future visits if it’s available!

Very relaxing in the heart of Lake James area! Went on several hikes, mostly stayed at the house during our stay - screened in back porch was our favorite place to hang out!

Hands down, one of my favorite airbnb! Spectacular views, beautifully decorated space, awesome sitting areas. We were in town celebrating the wedding of my college roommate's daughter, and the space was perfect for three couples. Can't say enough great things about it. Brian was incredibly responsive as a host. The location is a very short drivable distance from Blowing Rock, not that you may ever want to leave the airbnb. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful stay at this cozy and beautiful cabin! We had a group of 8 family members staying for App State Graduation. We had everything we needed for a fun, relaxing, and comfortable family celebration! Quiet, beautiful surroundings with gorgeous furnishings and landscaping. Meticulous attention to details such as labels on the lighting switches, great kitchen appliances, very clean bathrooms and plenty of storage space. Loved the decks, hot tub, and fire pit! Owners were helpful and communicative. Great cabin—highly recommend!

This location and space was just perfect for our large family to gather for App State graduation. It is close to Boone which made grocery shopping, a walk on the Greenway and access to campus convenient. The area surrounding the home is so incredibly peaceful. All we could hear were turkeys, woodpeckers and deer. The space was super clean. The main room and kitchen/dining area was the perfect size for everyone to hang out and eat together. We loved the turntable too!
