Wow, what an incredible place to stay this is! Not only is Risa's home a wonderful base to see the stunning natural beauty of Wakayama, but the neighbourhood of Shingu itself is so idyllic and quintessentially Japanese that you'll find it difficult to leave when your time is up. Staying in the house is a special experience as it immerses you in Japanese culture with the sliding doors, tatami mat flooring and paper screens. It's comfortable and quiet with much-welcome AC to fight the heat and humidity. Risa was a very communicative and welcoming host, giving clear check-in instructions, swiftly helping out with a brief internet issue, and even leaving a full table and fridge of snacks for our arrival. Do yourself a favour and book this house if you're planning to visit the beautiful Wakayama region!

Kumano City, right next to Atashika Beach, private lodging.Guesthouse Nagano-no-Ie is along the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route

We had a lovely stay at this Air BnB! Atashika is the cutest, most beautiful tiny coastal town and this BnB is a gem. You get the whole place to yourself and it is within a short walking distance of the beach. There aren’t many open restaurants or convenience stores, but it didn’t matter to us because the place itself is so beautiful and peaceful. The BnB has everything you need, including extra thick mats for the floor mattresses in case you need some extra cushion. We loved staying here and highly recommend it!

A house with a beautiful stream flowing in front of it, limited to one group per day on the Kumano Kodo

ThandiweRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
This place is very peaceful. It’s private and surrounded by forest, right next to a clear running river. There’s a nice braai area. Everything is spotlessly clean. Nice bath in the house and all amenities. The area is close to a bus stop on the kumano kodo route which makes it easy. Highlight is definitely the host, Junpei, who was incredibly helpful and friendly! Junpei helped us with storing our heavy bags for the kumano kodo which was incredible. He was also very caring and checked that we were okay on every account. It felt like staying at a friends house and we felt very comfortable and looked after. Absolutely perfect.

The entire Kominka "Makomo House" is rented, with an Irori fireplace and Goemon bath. Relax in a space full of privacy

Rating, 5 stars1 month ago
The Goemon bath, rice cooked in a traditional pot, fire, fresh green leaves, and the chorus of frogs made for an extraordinary and very nice family time. It was an old house, but it was nicely renovated and clean. They answered questions politely and quickly before my stay, and of course they were kind during my stay, making it a very comfortable time. Next time, I'd like to stay during the octopus harvest. Thank you.
A bright bathroom features wooden paneling and a small window providing natural light. A modern toilet and a sink are available, with a towel hanging nearby. A small rug lies near the entrance, and slippers are placed on the floor.

Guest house Kisansei Seseragi

It was a wonderful location and hospitality. There are many historically important historical sites, and my family wanted to stay together because it would be a shame to go home after one night. I'd like to stay again soon and take a leisurely tour of Yoshino's historical sites. The accommodation was very spacious, renovated in a guest house style, and it was clean and the new tatami mats felt very nice. Masayuki Thanks for your hospitality. Thank you again.

Stayed at Owase's rental villa and was relieved to be able to stay during the rain

It is a very natural place with mountains and the sea nearby. There are restaurants and convenience stores in the vicinity, and it is convenient. I couldn't go this time, but I thought it was a very good place to go around the Kumano Kodo. The room was tidy and well-ventilated, and we had a pleasant stay. The host was also very kind and approachable.
