Kid-friendly vacation rentals in Shetland Islands

We loved Orwick Lodge, so much, that we have already booked again for next year. The cottage was in a beautiful location, with stunning views, was well equipped, with a lovely hot shower and super comfy beds. The location was so quiet and peaceful and it was lovely to spot all the amazing birds frequenting the loch. The welcome pack was much appreciated and the complimentary mussels were delicious. We were lucky enough to see Orca, Otters and Mountain Hares during our stay, which made our time on Shetland extra special. Frankies serves some of the best fish and chips we've ever tasted and we had a fabulous meal at No.88 in Lerwick.

Perfect place to stay, easy to find and great communication from the start. Daisyside is a beautiful property and is immaculate throughout. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer base for our week in Shetland and would thoroughly recommend to anyone wishing to explore the island. Thank you to Jeffery and Wendy.

We had a wonderful week at Driftwood. This is a delightful cottage, striking in design and very well equipped, but with a strong history evident in the building and the photos and artefacts displayed inside. Possibly unusually in early summer, we were able to make good use of the pretty outdoor spaces. But when the wind blows, the cottage provides a warm and inviting shelter with great views across the fields and the sea. The cottage is very well positioned for exploring south Shetland and its magnificent archaeology and coastline. Our hosts were very helpful and responsive.

Perfect and quiet house. A real dream

The Chapel in Vidlin is a wonderful place to stay with everything provided that you could wish for. I have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone. We felt right at home there. Thank you to Sylvia for being such a fabulous host. We would love to come back one day!

I admit I hadn’t looked at all the information before booking. At the time of booking last year I was just so delighted to find a pet friendly place at a very reasonable price for a solo traveller. I am absolutely delighted that I found Greenvale. Dave and Debbie are fabulous hosts. They gave such valuable information about places to explore and I felt I had my own personal weather forecasters. It’s so important to listen to, and appreciate people with local knowledge. I was grateful to have a comfortable place to relax, especially when waiting for the weather to change. I loved the mystery of breakfasts. They were a real bonus. Debbie is a great chef. I’d happily give 10 stars for breakfasts. My Border Terrier, Ella, was also made to feel very welcome. She and Broonie got on well. Greenvale is unique and I am so pleased I embraced everything about it. I have benefitted in mind and body from staying there. Thank you Dave and Debbie for making my stay so memorable.

We cannot possibly do justice with words to explain how absolutely fantastic Riah and Magnus's home is. We have stayed at a lot of properties in several countries and their home is quite simply the most enchanting place we have stayed in. As you will read from the other reviews, Riah and Magnus are lovely people, who go way above and beyond to make sure you will enjoy staying with them - we truly felt like honoured guests. It was clear how genuinely important to them it was that we enjoyed our stay. We were fortunate enough to spend seven nights in their incredible home and every moment was fantastic. There is floor to ceiling glass in the living and dining room, with incredible views of the bay just outside. The upstairs has plenty of light too from windows and skylights and again the views are stunning. We also enjoy immensely the wood/peat fired hot tub - so soothing! As was the sauna. Do yourself a favour and book their home now. You absolutely will be so happy you did.

We had 4 great night's at Rocklea. Walls is a lovely village. We were really able to explore Shetland from this location. It was very comfortable and great to return to after a full day out (in very windy and rainy weather). We would recommend this spot.

We loved this place. Perfect location in Lerwick. Just as pictures, really cute. Had everything we needed. Would definitely stay again. Car parking not too far away, just around the corner. Thankyou Anne Marie.

So glad we chose Violet's apartment for our stay in Shetland. It is near Lerwick town centre and within minutes walking distance of the shops, cafes and visitor activities, but just far enough away for a quiet and relaxing stay. The apartment is spacious and very comfortable, clean and smart, always warm and cosy. The kitchen is well appointed and with quality white goods too. The shower was one of the best I have ever experienced. Violet is very friendly and welcoming, she stayed in contact to be sure to meet us when we arrived. We had a fabulous stay in Shetland, Violet's friendliness and thoughtfulness, the comfort of the apartment, and the location made it a very memorable trip.

Very well equipped and close to all that Lerwick has on offer. Loved walking to lookouts, restaurants and shops. Beds comfy and cozy lounge room. Would love to come back again!

We received a very warm welcome from Gordon and Heather as we visited their Hillside Studio for the second time. The accomodation looks and feels brand new, it’s attractive and spotless, providing everything we needed for a comfortable eleven day stay in Shetland. The studio is ideally situated for access all over Shetland, a great central base for exploring what the island has to offer. It is peacefully situated on a Hillside community of similar properties, with fantastic views and only five minutes from all the facilities of Lerwick. Notwithstanding the new feel that the studio already exudes, Gordon strives to make improvements which will benefit future guests. It’s a great place to stay and we plan to book again for a future holiday!

Sound Lodge is a lovely place to stay and Gina & Neil are excellent hosts. The accommodation was very comfortable with lots of thoughtful touches that made us feel very much at home. Highly recommended!

A great location for exploring Lerwick on foot, and all over Shetland by car. The flat was easy to live in, with good facilities and lots of kitchen equipment. Robert and Anne were friendly and helpful hosts.

Our stay was great! The location is really convenient. We road the bus from the airport and walked to the location just fine. It’s right in the middle of downtown Lerwick with easy access to restaurants, shops, museums, and transportation. We had a lovely stay and would gladly come back!

Great apartment in a central location in Lerwick - walking distance to shops and restaurants. Warm, well appointed and very clean, this was the perfect accommodation to base our travels around Shetland and its surrounding islands. Thanks heaps 😀!!

The Appartment is very nice and tidy. It was easy to find thanks to the hosts given Informations. I just can recommand it.

What a wonderful stay - we had three nights here but actually booked four so we could checkin straight away after arriving off the ferry at 7.30am. The apartment is really well equipped, lots of handy little extras in the kitchen if needed (baking paper, sticky tape etc). Very quiet, located within an apartment block, secure with a key needed to enter the building. Very close parking opposite in the free carpark on the corner of Harbour St & Market St, parks freely available. The apartment is on the corner of Harbour St and Fort Rd. Wonderful views - loved watching the ferry come and go across to the island, the Aberdeen ferry and had a cruise ship anchor as well. Easy walk to the shops, interesting to explore Fort Charlotte across the road. Loved our stay here and would definitely recommend others.

We totally loved the apartment . It was beautiful, light , well furnished , great sea view and a perfect spot . Justin was responsive , helpful and flexible . I cannot recommend more highly . Back next year for sure !

Excellent location (Bressay). Very regular local ferries across to Lerwick. Bressay is stunning. Lindsay & Kim are excellent hosts + live on-site so always available if u have any queries. Flat we stayed in (Pettifirth) is perfect for couple, or two friends who don't mind sharing double-bed. All mod cons, very high-spec, v.good heating, v.good wifi for internet, fully equipped kitchenette inc dishwasher, tea/coffee/milk/condiments & cereal provided, lovely shower-room, toiletries provided, decent-sized wardrobe with plenty of hangers & two deep drawers, nice towels, dining table & two chairs, double-bed, two comfy armchairs, good TV, flat is spacious for 2 people, triple-aspect windows with stunning views. Communal areas also lovely & with the views. Lots of tourist info. Off-street parking. Ground-floor veranda. Outside seating & picnic/dining-table (all with views). Bressay stunning. Remember it is very rural (1 small shop) so you will need car. Flat is about 30 mins walk to ferry. X

Yvonne is a superb host! Very accommodating and understanding when my plans had changed. The property was absolutely beautiful, very comfortable and homely and it had everything I needed. A very well thought out accommodation and very tastefully decorated. I loved staying here and will be returning again next year! Thank you so much Yvonne.

Great stay with a lovely host in a fantastic, central location. Jane made us feel right at home and was always smiling and super-helpful. Couldn’t ask for more!

Jean the host kept in touch before we arrived and was flexible about our arrival time. She welcomed us on the driveway and gave us a wee tour of the apartment. She also provided us with milk and biscuits to set us up after a long journey. The apartment is very nice indeed with everything you could possibly need. We liked that Tesco was a walkable distance and that Loch Clickimin nearby was great to walk round with our dog. We would have no hesitation in returning and/or recommending Jean’s apartment to stay as it’s very handy to explore all parts of the island. Thank you so much again. J & N Nadin
