Places to stay in Oakland
This private suite with private entry is a slice of heaven in a woodland setting. Due to the coronavirus we are taking extra care to disinfect frequently touched surfaces between reservations. The suite features a lovely patio, luxurious large bath with a walk-in shower for two, heated floors and large jacuzzi tub! The bedroom features elegant furniture and a comfortable queen sized bed, USB ports in the bedside lamps, a desk, large screen TV and strong WIFI signal.
This private suite is located on the lower level of our home, accessed from the south side of the house down an exterior set of stairs. There are no nearby neighbors on this side of the house and it is very quiet - all you see is forest and the view to west. The bathroom features a large walk-in shower for two, heated floors and a fabulous two person jetted tub. Neck pillows at each end of tub are provided for enhanced relaxation! Coffee, Tea, and small refrigerator are provided. Also plates and silverware for two, plus wine opener. Transportation and parking are very convenient. There is ample on-street free parking on this quiet street with only one immediate neighbor. Freeway access is very quick and easy via highway Highway 13 and I-580. San Francisco is about 20 minutes away (if no traffic) or a convenient commute via BART from nearby Rockridge Station. We are very near the University of California at Berkeley campus (17 to 12 min.), and major highways 80, 580, 24 and 880, which can whisk you to the vibrant galleries of Sausalito (40 minutes), San Jose (50 minutes), or Santa Cruz (90 minutes). If you are up for a day-long outing, don't miss the grand Muir Woods, wine tours in Napa, or mud baths in Calistoga. Quick access to sunshine on foggy days via the Caldecott Tunnel to points east - Orinda, Lafayette, Walnut Creek, and Lake Tahoe (~3 1/2 hours.)
Our home is located on a ridge above downtown Oakland. The views are beautiful, the neighborhood is quiet and upscale. Public transportation is not convenient. Guests either drive or Uber/Lyft. Parking on the street directly in front of our home is always available because our neighbors are distant.
  • Place was beautiful, better than expected.

  • Marianne’s plave was in a perfect spot for visiting San Francisco! The place was super clean and the bathroom was amazing! While we never met Marianne, she always responded quickly and was very helpful!

  • Perfect little place. Nice, huge bathroom. Amazing view. It was a very pleasant stay.

  • Where is the 10 star option!? This place is JUST what it looks like in the pics and more! Your eyes do not deceive you and you will probably get your expectations exceeded- marianne was on the ball with contacting us and providing me with good tips for eateries and grocery stores with my food allergies, and she made sure to contact us early when there was a change in her instructions about where to park. She also left us with info to a referral as her and her husband were going out of town, so we had someone to contact with Qs or concerns. The view is beautiful and serene from the window and its very private and secluded, i wish we could have stayed longer! Immaculately clean and it looks like it was built and furnished yesterday- very modern, the fridge and plugs work great, and we had a romantic time with the candles and lavendar bath salts and the jetted tub- it really reminds me of like an anniversary inn room but for SUCH a good price- definitely will recommend and be coming back! Also loved how much info she provided about San Francisco, including hospitals, grocery stores and tourist stops, i mean...these are the best of the best hosts

This is a charming apartment with a eclectic vintage modern style. The space looks out into the side garden.
This apartment is just adorable. It’s small but has everything you need to be comfortable for long term or short term stays. It’s lovely to look outside the many windows into the nearby garden space.
Our home is located in Oakland, California. The apartment is located in Maxwell Park, a diverse, family and dog friendly neighborhood. Located 10-15 minutes from Fruitvale Bart station, the Coliseum Bart station, and the Oakland airport. We are close to the Laurel district that has cute shops and is very walkable. Great produce can be found at Farmer Joes marketplace which is also in the Laurel district. Also nearby is International Blvd. which has some of the best taco trucks and Mexican markets in the area. Some of my favorite things about the area: #1 -Joaquin Miller Park: The Oakland Hills is home to some of the best hiking trails a city can offer. Joaquin Miller Park offers a glimpse of history as some of Joaquin Miller's(a poet and frontiersman from the 1800's) structures are still standing in the park such as a large pyramid structure and one of his small houses. In another part of the park, full of ferns and giant redwoods, there is a terrific place to build forts and structures with the numerous large redwood branches littering the ground. In the winter when the rains come the park becomes a maze of small creeks winding through the trees..great for adults and children. #2-Redwood Regional Park: Another stunning park the lays alongside Joaquin Miller Park. Redwood Regional Park offers a wide paved path perfect for bike riding, scootering, and picnicking. This Park has wheelchair access. #3-Mountain View Cemetery and Chapel of Chimes. Visit the architecturally beautiful Chapel of Chimes, and then drive to the top of the Cemetary for a visit with some of the most famous people that have helped shape the Oakland and Berkeley area. This cemetery was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape architect who also designed New York City's Central Park and much of UC Berkeley and Stanford University. Sweeping views of the bay and a lovely place to stroll. #4-Mills College campus: a few blocks away, Mills College is a liberal arts and sciences college located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Mills was founded as the Young Ladies Seminary in 1852 in Benicia, California. The school was relocated to Oakland, California, in 1871, and became the first women's college west of the Rockies. Wonderful campus to take a stroll on, it is open to the public. For a short loop hike, park in the gravel lot to the right of the kiosk.

  • Super cute space. Had cold filtered water in the fridge, which was a super plus for me.

  • Sierra’s place has lots of little touches that make it comfortable - a real coffee maker, games, comfortable bed, kitchen utensils, and a beautiful outdoor yard. Sierra also had great travel advice and place to leave rapid transit passes for the next guest. A very comfortable stay.

  • I had a short but sweet stay at David’s Purple Door. Check in was easy and I had complete privacy from beginning to end. The view was breathtaking!

    Averi2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed at David’s place for a night while we were in town visiting friends. The view is amazing and the place has everything we needed. Would definitely recommend to everyone.

    Roxanne2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice space with a great view over the city on a clear night. All information needed was available through itinerary and felt very private.

    Montegomery2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • At the expense of the Purple Door not being available next time I come to the Bay Area to stay, it is a great place to stay. Why? Hospitality, comfort and the view. David is a great host and super helpful in making sure everything is in order for you before you arrive. I love great towels, a comfortable bed, great shower pressure and being able to watch local tv for the news and weather. Check, check to all the above. Did I mention the view? Yes, it has a great view from the deck where you can see everything from Oakland International to Downtown San Francisco, to the Golden Gate. Oh, the sunset view is spectacular. Give the Purple Door a try and know David will take care of you. P.S. enjoy the view!

    Timothy &Quot;Casey&Quot;2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the view!!!

    Mylkou2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • David's place has the best view ever and is close to lots of shopping and great breakfast. West Oakland and nice restaurants are a short ride away which was perfect for our stay.

    Elizabeth2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • David’s place was exactly what we expected being that the pictures were very accurate. From the living area to the amazing view of the city! Wifi, Netflix, heaters to keep warm, privacy, hot shower and more! Everything you need for a comfortable stay. This is a guest house perfect for 2-3 people. The place was clean and even had extra things you may have forgotten at home readily available like shampoo, and iron and ironing board etc. I’d definitely book again and recommend to a friend.

Traditional Japanese architecture tucked away in a great Berkeley neighborhood. Peaceful and quiet but just a few blocks to UC Berkeley, all the restaurants of the "Gourmet Ghetto", and the North Berkeley Bart station. Berkeley Short Term Rental Registration # ZCSTR2017-0007
Traditional Japanese building with Tatami mats, organic queen size futon, and an "Ofuro"- a deep and luxurious soaking tub (similar feel to a hot tub). Entering the tub requires agility as it is high and you have to stand on a bench, sit on the edge of the tub, and swing your legs around. If you have any questions about that please ask (and see pictures). Lots of natural light with five skylights. Older wooden building with a somewhat rustic feel. The woven grass tatami mat floors have a noticeable smell of dry grass which we find to be lovely, but may not be for everyone. Comfortably sleeps 2 in new all natural foam mattress. Minimal kitchen with small fridge, tea kettle, and small toaster oven. We use fragrance free and non-toxic cleaning materials and provide Dr. Bronners hand soap. There is a fan available for use.
Peaceful neighborhood just minutes from downtown Berkeley and UC Berkeley. Close to amenities including restaurants, coffee (Philz!), grocery stores, Farmers' market (Thursday afternoons), ice cream parlors, beauty salons, and drugstores.
  • Absolutely lovely stay, the hosts provided so much for us and even included local guides for a variety of items. Everything in the description was as mentioned or better. Would definitely come back if the opportunity arises.

    Fernando2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Zan and Rainbow's teahouse was a relaxing endeavor made complete by the bedroom's sliding door which so cozily encapsulated our slumber we woke feeling as though we'd spent a night as we might have as young babes; rising fresh-eyed and buoyant.

You’ll love my place because of the good location, convenience to public transport, the friendly neighborhood, the ambiance.. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids). Although there is just one bedroom, the couch folds down for extra sleeping space. Please be aware that the property is in a hilly area and that there are stairs to navigate which can be challenging if you have large luggage or mobility issues.
It's a quiet, private spot in a busy city. Feel free to enjoy the deck or yard and the many restaurants and local spots.
Although quiet and out of the way, the cottage is located within walking distance of a grocery, movie theatre, Lake Merritt, many delightful restaurants and shopping.
  • Great location, beautiful, comfortable and clean place and friendly host. Highly recommended!

  • Deanna's cottage was cozy, clean, and private. It was not difficult to get parking and the cottage had so many amenities. Overall I had a very enjoyable stay.

    Henry2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • I don’t even know where to begin, Deanna’s cottage was such a pleasurable experience for the two nights we stayed. Checking in was so easy. The moment we checked in Deanna was so warm and kind welcoming my husband, sister in law and I with her delicious baked treats and fruits. Her cottage was very cozy and clean. She also provided many amenities that you’ll need along with orange juice and fresh milk stocked in the fridge. Instructions in her cottage was very easy to follow. The neighborhood felt very safe. Communication was quick, Deanna responded within minutes with whatever questions we had. Definitely would come back to her cottage and stay longer.

    Nancy2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Deanna's cottage was absolutely wonderful! It was a great stay and she was an awesome host. Check-in was very easy and smooth and upon arrival there was fruit and freshly baked bread waiting for us! Everything in the cottage was very clean and there is a great kitchen with everything you'd need to cook, if you wanted to. I would most definitely stay here again.

    Erykah2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Deanna was extremely hospitable and kind during our one night stay there and we absolutely loved her garden cottage! Everything was perfect - the entire space was very clean and filled with all kinds of amenities that you might need. My husband and i look forward to coming back and we highly recommend you to stay here if you're in the area. Once again thank you Deanna for accommodating to us when we couldn't find a parking space nearby. You have a lovely house and we love everything about it :)

    Jane2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This place was great. Sparkling clean, has all needed amenities, very cute and spacious, warm and very convenient. It is located on a lovely street, walking distance to restaurants, grocery stores, movie theater and the lake. Deanna was very responsive and accommodating.

    Zeina2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • If we could live here we would! This was our first time in California, and we couldn't have started our trip any better than staying at Deanna's Cottage. It felt like a home away from home, and helped us enjoy our adventures that much more. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!

Come enjoy our comfortable, private, light-filled studio in-law unit. Cook light meals in our fully-stocked kitchenette (microwave, mini-fridge, sink and stove-top--pots/pans/dishes all included), a full bathroom with tub, wi-fi and cable TV and Netflix (HBO/Roku). Enjoy hill views from the front deck. Stay in a quiet and safe neighborhood in the woodsy hills of Oakland. Close to the Warriors, A's, Oakland Airport, East Bay hiking and all major freeways, and BART. Only 15 miles to downtown SF.
Sunny studio below our family home in a well-established, friendly neighborhood. 2.8 miles to BART. 20-25 minute drive to San Francisco (with no traffic). Perfect for your mother-in-law or visiting family/friends. A bit off the beaten path in the woodsy, Oakland hills, yet close to all the best of the Bay Area! Please note: Since the studio is below our living room, you can hear footsteps above. The house was built in 1924 so creaking and vibrations are unavoidable. We did install a sound-proofing rug pad, have a thick wool rug, and recently added ceiling insulation, but we have young children and, although we are conscientious of our guests below, foot traffic will likely still be heard -- especially in the early mornings. The rest of the neighborhood is very quiet at night and there is little street noise which is rare for Oakland's urban setting.
This is a friendly family neighborhood filled with kids, dogs and long-time residents. We love the neighborhood playground and the park-like feel of the wooded views. It is close to all major transportation needs and minutes away from the best hiking in the Oakland hills!
  • When I think of the Bay Area, this is what I imagine. Perfect location! Perfect instruction. Comfortable bed and lots of places to eat. I hope it’s available next visit for work.

  • Amy’s place is extremely clean, orderly, and attractive. It was ease to check in and out. I appreciated the written guidelines and information.

    Delia2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Amy's studio is cozy, clean and comfortable. All interactions were smooth and timely. The bed was super comfy and the kitchen space had everything we needed for our short stay. The location is close to Joaquin Miller Park, where we had a great time hiking. The family neighborhood was close to markets and fun restaurants. We could hear Amy's family above us but it was not loud or intrusive at all. A sweet space, nicely set up.

    Judie2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Amy was easy to communicate with. The check-in was very clear and easy to follow. She briefly greeted me upon arrival, watch was appreciated. And the space overall was perfect for my short stay!

Other retail stores such as Target, Nordstrom's rack, Ulta, and Starbucks are about 10 minutes via Uber/Lyft. There are eateries available during the day but dining in the evening are best sought in downtown Oakland or San Francisco, a short BART or Uber ride away. BART is only one and a half blocks from our front door and you can reach either location in 10-15 minutes.
  • Thank you Gene for the nice stay in your clean and stylish airbnb. We liked it very much!

    Luise2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay, clean and looks great inside. Also very comfortable with a nice TV, work desk, and really nice bed. Just not the best area to be in

    Adan2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Super clean, comfy, and convenient place. 10 minute walk from the train station which gets you into San Francisco in minutes for super cheap (way less than an Uber). Has fridge and microwave for heating up leftovers or meals. Great desk area with high speed internet as well as ALL the streaming services on a 4K TV. Bed was super comfortable and the place was sparkling clean when we got inside. Came with a blow dryer which my girlfriend was ecstatic about. Light sleepers might have trouble cause the walls are thin so you hear outside traffic, the train, and some of the noise from the other people in the house. But we’re deep sleepers so we had zero problems. Check in and check out were easy and the homeowners were really nice whenever we’d bump into them coming in or out of the house. Don’t count on parking in the drive way unless you have a prius or something that size. I have a pickup truck so I didn’t fit in the driveway but street parking was ridiculously easy to find and right in front of the house. 10/10 overall and will definitely be staying here next time i’m in town! Communication with Gene was also quick and easy!

  • My son and My husband had a very satisfying experience with Gene’s Airbnb accommodation. The detailed instructions were clear and easy to follow. I was a little concerned about the safety of this part of town, but there were no issues. We were able to park the rental car inside the fence. We did not need to use the heater. The accommodations are Spartan (party of two or less best), but worked great for us, we just needed to crash somewhere overnight, and continue fresh the next day. I heard people talking during the night in one of the neighboring apartments, but if you use earplugs or have deep sleep, not an issue. Finally, very convenient to get to either the suburbs of Oakland, or SFO airport.

  • My colleague & I only stayed 1 night and booked this VERY last minute. The space is exactly as described, we truly appreciated the private parking spot & small host touches. Gene & I chatted for a bit while checking in the space. As I was hosting on Airbnb full time in SF. We traded stories, etc. Nice conversation & hospitality;-)

Relax in a private, fully equipped Casita with stunning views of East Oakland and the Bay. This newly constructed one-bedroom guest house in the quiet Eastmont Hills neighborhood has everything you need to work and play. Enjoy lounging in a hammock on the deck or on the couch streaming movies to a 32" television. Brand new stainless steel gas range and full-sized fridge make cooking a breeze, or you can partake in the countless options Oakland's restaurant scene has to offer.
I've created the Casita to host visiting family and the rest of the year, to host the world! It was such a wonderful experience to be a part of designing and building a unique small house with a spacious feel. I would describe the style as eclectic: rustic elements, like an exposed wooden beam; industrial accents in the lighting and fixtures; and the warmth of Talavera tile and vibrant colors paying homage to Mexico. It's a little over 400 square feet, plus a 11x10 foot deck, which basically adds a room! The washer/dryer and kitchen make it totally self-sufficient for a short or longer stay.
Eastmont Hills is a diverse neighborhood of well-kept homes below the 580 freeway and several steep blocks above MacArthur boulevard. I've lived in Oakland since 1985 but only recently moved to this neighborhood, in 2017. I find new things to love about it every day! There is an open space park just a half a block away, great for stretching your legs, watching the sunset and taking in the view of Mt. Tamalpais in Marin, four bridges, and the Oakland and San Francisco Skylines. You can hear the mockingbirds singing and the owls hooting, see hawks hovering above the hillside and enjoy the brilliant magenta of bougainvillea that seems to thrive here. To be transparent, it is East Oakland: you may hear occasional sirens from MacArthur Blvd down the hill or the momentary throb of bass from someone driving by enjoying their music a little loud; and you can't leave stuff in your car in plain view and expect it to be there in the morning. It's also not a super convenient neighborhood: public transit is spotty, no restaurants to walk to, and it is a little further away from downtown. That said, I feel safe, the neighbors are way friendlier than my old neighborhood, the Mediterranean climate is lovely and the views spectacular.
  • Cute decor and a super quiet place to rest up for a great week in the city!

  • Beautiful view, wonderful people, amazing experience. I stayed with the host for a month, and could have stayed a whole year. The view is breathtaking and never repeats itself. I walked a two mile look at 5 am every morning finishing at the peak four doors from the house. Amazing, kind and responsive host who understands guests, and provide all the necessary amenities plus more. Thank you so much for sharing your home. And I hope our paths cross someday again. Be well.

~~UPDATE 3/13: Gigabit fiber coming soon! Note that our neighbor’s house is undergoing a full renovation. While it’s not always consistent, you may hear construction noises on weekday mornings.~~ Glamour + camping = glamping! - Centrally located to BART, UCB, & restaurants - BART (7 blocks) to SF in 25 minutes - Wifi, linens, towels, coffee, & tea provided - Big ol' yard with chickens - One of two Airbnb spots here, so you might meet some other travelers! It's like a hostel, but clean. ;)
Welcome! Enjoy all the comforts of home in this fabulously restored vintage caravan. Come say hi to the chickens, enjoy coffee and tea in the garden. You'll be close to pretty much everything and BART is 7 blocks away. We look forward to hosting you! The house is on the same property where we live with our 2 small children. We are very family friendly. Come glamp in our little slice of country life. This 1964 Kenskill camper has been fabulously restored and customized so you can play "pretend camp" while enjoying the comforts of home. This is a great spot especially if you've ever been tiny-home-curious. In a previous life, this caravan was the food truck for Katie Cupcake, serving up the delicious treats in Flagstaff, AZ. You're sure to enjoy sweet dreams. ;) We rearranged the interior so it feels much more spacious than the traditional layout. It's really quite nice inside. And yes, there's even a full bathroom with a proper flush toilet, sink, and small separate shower. The stall is short so taller folks need to get creative to shower. Towels and linens provided. Mini kitchen has a working gas range, double sink, microwave and fridge. Coffee and tea provided, plus feel free to gather some eggs for breakfast. Watching "chicken TV" is a relaxing way to enjoy the garden. You may encounter our two kitties, Cowboy and Beebop. Our place is one of those homes that's all front yard, and we positioned this trailer so you can sit at the dinette and enjoy a view of the garden and our silly flock of chickens. Some people ask about safety. We've lived in the East Bay for 20 years, sampling the whole socioeconomic spectrum of neighborhoods. We've felt more at home here in this slice of town that we've felt anywhere else in the Bay Area. Put on your city smarts and you should be A-OK. That being said, there are lots of great places to eat and drink nearby whether you want to walk, bike or drive. Three great new restaurants are nearby: Sideshow (excellent beer garden with delicious dinner options), Cassave Restaurant (delish El Salvadoran grub and a full bar) and Easy Creole (casual, tasty, and fast). Our favorite local spot is Sweet Adeline with delicious pastries and tasty coffee. There's another coffee and sandwich shop, Alchemy Cafe next to Easy Creole. It's straight out of Portlandia. On Tuesdays, there's a farmer's market from 3-7pm just a couple blocks away! Venture a little further and hit up the big Temescal Farmer's market on Sunday mornings. Your hosts are two UCB alums and former co-opers. Lewis is a programmer by day, musician by night. Ginger is a Jill of All Trades, ranging from glassblowing to finance. Jules (age 5) and Pasqual (age 3) are our little greeters. We'll leave you to your own devices, but don't hesitate to ask if you need anything. Thanks for looking and happy travels! ***FAQ*** Q. Is there heat? A. Yes, we provide a space heater that keeps it warm and cozy. Q. Is there hot water? A. Yes, there is a dedicated on-demand water heater for the caravan. Q. If we don't want to share the bed, is there room to put a mat on the ground? A. Kind of, but I wouldn't recommend it. You could fit a mat on the walkway to the bathroom, but then you'd have to step on each other to get around! Q. Do you have luggage storage? A. Sure, we can fit a few pieces of luggage in our supply room. Q. Where do I park? A. Parking is onstreet . If you don't get a spot just outside, you can usually find one on the block. Watch for street sweeping signs (a few hours out of the month). Q. Can I bring an animal? A. No. We need to keep the space allergen-free. Q. What about assistance animals? A. Due to past trauma, dogs of any size are not allowed to enter the property as they pose a health and safety risk with our particular circumstances.
For some reason Airbnb doesn't know how to place us on the map. We're on the same block as Lois the Pie Queen -- a neighborhood fixture and solid greasy spoon diner. Although our neighborhood is not the prettiest, we have a great community and are happy to be raising a family here.

  • Definitely a out-of the-norm experience in Oakland. Chickens, gardens, funky/groovy camper that is both unique and functional. Enjoyed the fact that they accommodated a last minute booking, as well as, an additional day which I booked the following morning. Definitely not your run-of the-mill generic hotel room. This place has personality and both privacy and comfort for a memorable experience that is worthy of sharing.

Welcome to the San Francisco Bay Area! I live in the Oakland/Emeryville Border. I'm hosting a large private room-- that sleeps up to four-- with a private bathroom on the first floor of my three-story condo. Hop on an $15 Uber/Lyft to SF, or take a day trip to Napa or Sonoma's wine country, or explore the soul & culture of the East Bay. Or Netflicks & chill with an Apple TV equipped with Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO GO and WIFI. Public transportation, BART & Amtrak are easily accessible.
The first floor is really private. I live on floors 2-3, so I’ll be pretty much out of your way. I’ll greet my guests with fresh fruit, chocolates and other snacks to enjoy— just outside the doors of the Master Suite.
  • I wasn’t able to use my reservation due to COVID-19. Carlos was very quick with responses and answers to my questions. This is my first time using Arirbnb, and Carlos was a great first impression. Thank you.

  • I didn't meet the host, but it kept providing some pretty accurate information. The location is in a secluded Auckland area. It's a private room but it doesn't feel like a private room because it uses an independent space and a separate door and garage. I've been staying on Airbnb just as I traveled west to the United States, but I think it's an advantage to have an affordable, friendly host and independent space over expensive San Francisco accommodation. However, as you said in a later review, the road contact point was vulnerable to noise, but it was a road with little traffic. So at night, I didn't feel much of the noise. And the couple who said that when they moved from above sounds like a wooden building. So there's noise. But it wasn't really bothering me because I gave it very carefully. I leave the review quite objective, but it was quite satisfactory compared to the unfavorable state of the country. Oh, it's about 20-25 minutes from downtown San Francisco, but nearby IKEA, TARGET, and PUBLIC MARKET are five minutes away, so I ate and shop. Apixar's headquarters was also nearby. If you are looking for this place, please refer to. I recommend it.

We are a 10 min. walk to Ashby BART; average ride into SF - about 20 min. Emeryville (Amtrak Station) Oakland, U.C. Berkeley are all close by. Completely private; gated keypad entry through black bamboo & rose hedges. Envisioned primarily as a romantic bedroom, the cottage is also equipped for working travelers. Large bathroom can be opened to secluded courtyard garden. WiFi, fridge, microwave, coffee Walk to: Berkeley Bowl West market, Creekwood Restaurant, cafes, good coffee, bike rentals.
Please Note: Check-in any time after 2PM; check out by 11AM The Cottage is hidden on a tree lined street in an unassuming residential neighborhood next to our small Victorian house. It has its own gated entrance and pathway through grasses, mature trees and a hedge of wild roses. A second gate (keyless entry) allows entrance to the continuance of the pathway through an eclectic garden of fruit trees, flower and berry bushes, luxurious black bamboo, & artworks by the hosts. Guests love the eastern views from the large high windows; especially good in the mornings. The views change with the seasons; autumn leaves and burgeoning fruit from the persimmon tree, the riotous golden yellow cascade of rosa banksia, the starkly beautiful bark of the Dawn Redwood tree in winter; maybe delicate pink apple blossom petals swirling in a spring wind. Always, (it being Squirrel End and all) there are the many entertaining squirrels playing high up in the giant oak tree. While you won't need them for privacy, we have provided black-out shades for jet-lagged guests who would like to sleep in, and those who find themselves visiting during the 3 or 4 days of the year on which the very early morning sun comes blazing through. If you are lucky enough to visit on a warm day, take a refreshing shower and then a long soak in the big claw foot tub. The bathroom doors open to the totally private small outdoor patio. Actually, guests have said it is just as satisfying even on the coldest of days.
Our modest residential neighborhood, at the intersection of Berkeley, Oakland and Emeryville, is changing rapidly. Our house was built in 1900 and we arrived in 1979. There are more and new buildings going up, more new places to do everything. In the midst of the hubbub, the Cottage at Squirrel End is an oasis of calm and quiet.
  • Linda and Dan are class acts. They ensured that I felt safe and secure during a less than safe and secure time. Immaculately clean and beautiful space. I would stay there anytime I was in the Bay Area.

    Jill2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Our hosts were extremely thoughtful and kind and gracious people. The space was perfect for having a place to come back to after walking all day and sightseeing. Linda's skill with gardening and floral arrangement made the entryway a beautiful place to sit out in and made it especially nice while getting ready for a wedding. The location is close enough to walk to the Bart stations without much hassle so if you don't want to take a taxi or Uber it's a beautiful walk to the station.

    Corey2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Such a wonderful place to stay in the East bay! The check in was super easy, Dan was helpful and communicative. Perfect place for a couple of nights in Berkeley. Clean, peaceful and relaxing.

    Sabrina2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Dan and Linda’s cottage. This was my first trip to Berkeley and the Bay Area. The cottage Dan built was very cute and cozy (not in a tiny way, just a super cute way). As far as amenities, there was a coffee pot and electric tea kettle (with coffee and tea), refrigerator, fluffy towels, shampoo/conditioner/soap. The fresh flowers were a nice touch. I would mention that there is not a TV, so bring your iPad or computer if you want to watch movies after a long day of being tourist! Lol. We were trying to disconnect from work so we didn’t bring laptops along so we ended up streaming movies on our phone. There was WiFi so that was not an issue. There is a little market/grocer just around the corner, and a liquor store about a block away. We mostly drove everywhere because it was a bit of a walk and we were tired from the hills of San Francisco. The location was very central for all the things we wanted to do. We went up to Napa/Sonoma for one day, Muir Woods another day, and spent a couple days in the city, at Chinatown and at the piers. We also explored Berkeley and visited the Berkeley Bowl. Everything was less than an hour away. Dan and Linda are great hosts and bring a personal touch to their property. Thanks for letting us stay at your cottage.

    Michelle2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Tranquil abode in a regular neighborhood. The nature setting adds to the beautiful interior design. It is an extremely clean place, bed and linens just perfect. No stairs and easy access which was a nice plus. It was almost like being in a hotel room surrounded by nature, with birds singing in the trees. Loved the bathroom. It was just perfect before a major exam where I needed space and quiet to study, along with quick access to both uptown Berkeley Oakland.

2nd best stay in the bay! The former home of a music legend, this mountainside villa is the ideal place to get away from it all; close to Downtown Oakland, just across the bridge from San Francisco. Quiet, beautiful, modular space and surroundings fit for 70s era royalty, with some modern touches. If you are interested in recording packages, please inquire through our other listing, "Historic Rock n Roll Fantasy Camp". Otherwise, stay on the line and we'll get right back to you.
The unit is extremely versatile and can transform from a full service music and film studio to an extremely comfortable hillside getaway with some of the greatest amenities. Just to be clear, this is a recording studio (both in the past and presently, however, this listing DOES NOT include "formal studio time, such as full rehearsals and/or recording packages). The live room can be used for meetings or as a large size bedroom/living room combo and the spacious deck can be used to lounge, throw darts or enjoy spectacular dining with view. -The property is secured with multiple cameras around the exterior. If you are a registered guest, these measures have been taken for both your safety and privacy. This unit will fit just about any need, let us know how can we transform the space to fit your needs. Going, going, gone.
This neighborhood is one of the most scenic and quietly reserved the bay area has to offer. Sweeping views of the valley and gorgeous surroundings combine to make this stay magical. Whether it be the wild turkeys squawking about, dear battling the steep terrain, or endless bird watching, this studio retreat is one of a kind. It doesn't get much better than this.
  • Joe and his family were great and super hospitable. We had everything we needed. The small kitchen is fully stocked with everything you would need for your stay. The Montclair hills are beautiful. You should stop off at their restaurant down the hill, Taps and Takeout. Cheers!

  • Great, unique space! Very comfortable. So happy with my choice to stay here while visiting the Bay Area!

    Aimee2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Really unique and a cozy, calm place to spend some time at. I'd highly recommend it!

  • What an incredible space I’m so glad we got to stay there we will definitely be back

    Vanessa2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Joe is the best! This is an unique space that would be a great retreat for a musician or other artist working on a project.

    Charles2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Okay seriously this was the best place we’ve stayed at ever. The views were amazing, the space was SO SPACIOUS! We didn’t even know what to do with that much space. There was a balcony that you can sit on for hours and just enjoy the view. I could sit and wrack my brain for hours to think of something negative and there just wouldn’t be anything. If you’re going to the Bay Area you NEED to stay here. Also go to Joe’s restaurant and tap house, we went on taco Tuesday and ate so much we could’ve hibernated for the rest of the time. Thank you Joe!

My apartment is on the top floor and faces a North Easterly direction, affording beautiful morning sunshine in the bedroom (I have room darkening curtains for you late sleepers!), bathroom and living area. The renovated Edwardian Style building sits on an island filled with historic architecture dating back to the 1800's. High ceilings, plenty of light and a great location make this a unique place in a quiet neighbourhood on Alameda...a conveniently located island across the bay from SF.
The space is part modern, part antique store and part estate sale. I have books ranging from Carl Jung to Albert Camus and magazines National Geographic, Mens Heath and Vanity Fair. For entertainment I have big screens in the living area and the bedroom both are SMART TV's and have access to various entertainment choices such as Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube,Amazon FireTv (in the bedroom) and a BlueRay player in the main living room. Feel free to visit a Redbox down the street (or the Redbox App on the TV), bring your own book or other media or just plan on taking a long walk down to Robert Crown beach early in the morning with a cup of freshly brewed coffee or tea in hand. It doesn't get much better than th🦛🦈🐏is... One final note: If there is a date that you want to visit that is blocked or if you want to stay more than the 14 day maximum, shoot me an email and I'll see what I can work out for you!
There are so many great things to do without ever leaving Alameda! Park Street could use up a whole day with the eclectic shops and restaurants that call that street home. Try the new Star on Park, the German restaurant Spieskammer, Pacific Lighthouse (a dim sum delight near Pacific Marina and the Oakland Yacht Club), Burma Superstar (part of the highly rated SF Burmese restaurants) or one of the many seafood restaurants that ring the island.
  • Great stay! The place was clean and the bed was comfortable. We just stayed for one night before a morning flight so this was perfect for that!

  • Easy check in process; private and stylish.

    Arthur2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Delightful, comfortable apartment with superb host. We couldn’t recommend this apartment more! Patrick provides touches of luxury (bedding, towels, coffee bar), high tech amenities (large smart tv screens, wifi, wireless chargers), appealing eclectic furniture, all the while making the apartment feel very easy to “move into” for your stay. Patrick provides a lot of very good information in advance both about the easy check-in, the apartment and your stay in Alameda. He is incredibly responsive if needed. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are in Alameda.

    Lara2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Patrick's place is in a great location in Alameda. About a mile from the main town and shops and short drive t Trader Joes and Safeway. The place was very clean, had all the kitchen amenities for us to cook. Patrick left very clear communication on where to park and how to get into the apartment. We will definitely look to stay here next time we come into town.

    Jessica2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Patrick is very responsive to questions and provided fast and friendly replies. The apartment is very attractive and comfortable. Check in was very easy. We enjoyed a quiet evening and restful sleep.

  • Patrick’s place was cute, clean, and convenient. A great walk to the main ave in Alameda. Bed and pillows were both very comfy!

    Chase2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • My daughter and I had a great week in this place! Patrick was very welcoming and helpful, and responsive when I had any questions. The bed is super comfy and the apartment had everything we needed for a nice stay. Would definitely recommend!

  • Love this place Stay for 30 days

    Hanyu2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Carlos and Graciela's place was as described in the listing. It was clean and tidy with plenty of light, and we were even able to go up to the roof to enjoy a beer or two. Having Netflix, HBO and Prime on their Roku TV was a nice touch also. One thing to note is this is a studio, so if you are looking for a longer stay (we were there just for the minimum 1 month required to book the place), it might be a bit on the small side for 2 people.

    Krystyna2019-04-16T00:00:00Z

Stylish, light, modern studio with all you need for a basic overnight or a leisurely stay. You can cook with the Breville oven, burners or microwave, but really, why, when there is so much good food in nearby Temescal. For me, the studio calls out to read in the comfy chair, work at the West Elm breakfast bar or curl up for a good night's sleep. If none of those appeal, just sip some wine and stare at the art! EZ street parking. Hosting 4 guests is an experiment. Pls read 'The Space' if ur>2.
BECAUSE OF COVID-19, I ASK THAT YOU CONTACT ME BY PHONE AS SOON AS YOU BOOK TO DISCUSS PROCEDURES. THANK YOU. Note - If you are considering booking the place for more than two people, pls read the last paragraph in this section. PARKING - Easy street parking can fill up late at night, so if you plan to arrive late, please let me know and I'll make room for you in the driveway. OUTDOOR SPACE - Right now, the area directly outside the studio has a table and chairs for hanging out. It also has a bit of an overflow from my woodshop/work area, though there is no noisy work going on. When the weather is nice, you are welcome to hang out at the table and chairs, but please keep in mind that I haven't "set up" this area for guests yet, so you'll be dealing with a less pretty space than the interior of the studio. Think of it as aesthetically "at your own risk," caveat visitor, etc. But, you can enjoy the sun from there. LOVING CANINE GREETER - I have a medium-sized dog. I promise that you won't ever find a warmer, more loving, gentle soul. Pure bred Oakland Street Dog. She is rarely in the studio, but there's a good chance she may be part of your greeting party as you come and go. She will be happy to see you and to be pet and well-received. She also understands "no" and is definitely better behaved than I was at her age. BOOKING FOR MORE THAN TWO - The space is luxurious for two and really super tight for four. I'm offering it to four people as an experiment. I've got a comfortable cot with an inflatable mattress. With two beds in there, there will be very little floor space to walk around. It would be a great, cheap spot to crash, but not to hang. If you are booking for more than two, please check in with me so we can be clear on your expectations. I want you to be happy and to be clear on what your experience will be.
Located a few blocks from the Berkeley border, three blocks from Children's Hospital and six blocks from Oakland's buzzing, hip Temescal District. There's a great cafe a block away for your morning cappuccino. After that, just walk or drive six blocks to Temescal district where you have your choice of Burmese, Korean, Thai fusion, Japanese, Caribbean, Italian, Fried chicken and more ... and more food and shopping. Hang outdoors at Temescal Brewery. Walking or driving north from my place, you will find Sweet Adeline, one of Berkeley's sweetest cafes, fresh baked goods, yum, etc. Also, there is an amazing Farmer's Market Tuesday afternoon/evenings. Half a mile after that is Ashby BART and a little further is Berkeley Bowl, Berkeley's famous grocery store for everything you need. Whole Foods is about the same distance, up Ashby St from BART.
  • we had a great two nights in the studio. It offers enough space and also the bathroom and the kitchenette offer enough space. The bed can be heated which is very pleasant. There is also a parking lot on the street. We can say with a clear conscience that this is a great place to stay

    Marvin2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space to land, regroup and take off in the city. Clean and easy check in, great communication and a studio that you can make yourself home in. Will definitely be back!

    PrincessFalega2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Leslie has made a lovely cozy guest house with thoughtful touches, like a heated mattress pad and cookies. She is warm and friendly and is a great host.

    Nancy2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Leslie's place was cute, cozy, and convenient. It closes to the freeway and the BART (subway system) so it is really assessable. I felt comfortable once I walked in. It was clean and had everything you could need. The place was well decorated without any excess clutter . Leslie communicated well and check in on me to make sure I was happy with my stay.

*Newly renovated with fresh paint, carpet, and a security screen for ventilation and privacy.* Come enjoy the cozy detached cottage in my backyard. Your home-away-from-home awaits complete with 32" flatscreen TV (no cable -- movies, network TV, USB hookup only), WIFI, on-the-go kitchen (microwave, mini-fridge, and & electric kettle), bathroom. Serene neighborhood. Private, keyed entrance.
Quiet, private studio behind my home in a well-established, friendly neighborhood. Short walk (1 mile) to coffee, shopping, library. 2.6 miles to BART. 20 minute drive to San Francisco. Nothing fancy, but perfect for your mother-in-law or visiting family/friends. More of a place to crash than a destination in and of itself. - Wifi - 32" TV (no cable -- movie player and USB port only) - Mini kitchen (microwave, fridge, electric kettle -- no stove or oven) - Private bathroom with shower - Relaxing backyard with deck and kids' play structure - Cozy queen-size bed - Ample hanging space for clothing - Pet-free space I live in the front house, and while I can be a fairly social person, I am happy to leave you alone, too, if that is your preference. This is a quiet, family friendly neighborhood. I know my neighbors' names, and we enjoy spending time together socially. There are friendly kids and pets in every direction in addition to ample street parking. (That said, it is still Oakland -- lock your car and remove valuables.) The house is less than three miles from The Fruitvale BART station. It is a short walk to the bus stop for AC transit. Keep in mind: This is a converted garage -- cozy, but a little on the rustic side. While there is no A/C or central heat, I do provide fans and a space heater. With the exception of the infrequent heatwave, the space stays pretty comfortable. Those traveling with children please note that there is only a shower -- no tub. Enjoy your own private entrance and bathroom. You are also welcome to use the backyard space. Access to washer/dryer can be arranged if you are planning a prolonged stay. The guests I have met have been delightful. Some have joined me for a visit in my home or a cocktail in the yard. That said, I have the utmost respect for the private traveler who just wants a place to crash without any small talk obligations. My neighborhood is full of friendly families and pets. It is a short walk from many, interesting, locally-owned businesses. We get the warmth and sunshine of Oakland with close proximity to San Francisco. There are walkable bus stops (AC transit). The Fruitvale BART station is just under 3 miles away. Please feel free to contact me with questions or if you need clarification.

  • Loved my stay at Mosa's! Check in was very easy, and she was even able to accommodate my request to check in a bit early. Sweet touches, like a bottle of wine, and instant coffee and oatmeal. Such a cute and quiet neighborhood, about a 10 minute lyft ride to the Fruitvale Bart station. An all around great home base for my SF/East bay adventure.

this is a small room perfect for business / budget travelers. It is small with a full size bed and a big closet. you can however, access our living /dining room to hang out. We live upstairs, we rent out 2 rooms downstairs. This is a private room but the rest of the house is a SHARED space, if you are uncomfortable with this setup this will not be a good fit. We speak English and German.
2 story building in a charming tree lined street. 10 Minutes from West Oakland BART Station. 15 Minutes from San Francisco Downtown. We live upstairs, we rent out 2 rooms downstairs. big dining room is available as hangout area. 900 sq feet [we will share the gourmet kitchen and we do dinner parties on a regular basis]. We speak English and German. Looking forward to meet you =]
West Oakland is an up and coming neighborhood. Very residential and usually very quiet at night. We don't have a lot of restaurants and stores in walking distance but we are really close to downtown. 5 minutes by car and 20 minutes on foot. You can get to San Francisco very quickly [20 min] via BART [10min walk to station 8 min ride, lots of trains]

  • Christian and Jackie provide a nice place to stay in West Oakland. I've now stayed with them 3 times, and am happy to recommend them. Christian has checked me in in person each time. Otherwise you may not see much of him. This AirBnB is a private room with a window facing the neighbor's house. There isn't much room in the room-- most of it is taken up by the bed. The bed is really comfortable-- one of the most comfortable mattresses I've ever slept on. Christian leaves a bottle of water and a cup on the nightstand for your use. The bathroom is new construction and there is a lot of space. Shampoo, conditioner, soap/body wash are provided. What I loved about my stays is how quiet it was. Very restful, and great for someone like me who comes on short business trips and just wants a calm place in which to sleep. Jackie was practicing baking during my stays so there always was some bread available to eat in the kitchen. Be aware-- for some reason, my AT&T cell phone service did not work in the house and was poor at the front door. So if you plan to use your phone a lot inside, you might not be able to. All in all, I would happily stay with Christian again, and will likely do so the next time I want to stay in Oakland.

  • Christian and his wife are wonderful host. It was a pleasure to stay at his house during my stay in SF. Christian is always smiling and always available. The location is perfect in order to stay outside SF to pay less. I recommend 100%!!

    Guillaume2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Christian’s place is breathtakingly beautiful. It was clean, comfy and the location is a quick walk to the bart which only one stop away from San Francisco. Christian and Jacqui are great hosts and the amenities and little touches make it feel like home. The bathroom is clean and water is hot. For a budget traveller, this is more than you could ask for. I can’t recommend the space enough. My partner and I stayed for 4 nights and shared our room with two large suitcases and two small ones and had no issues. Highly recommend!

Redwood Sanctuary is located in the idyllic Oakland Hills with beautiful vistas, hikes, and parks within a short drive. The home is situated on half an acre of land in the middle of redwood, eucalyptus, and oak trees secluded away from other homes. Montclair village is an 8 minute drive, providing lots of great food and shops. Minutes from Highway 13 and 580. It is a 1 bedroom studio with a queen bed and a pull out sofa bed. It can comfortably accommodate up to 3. We'd love to host your stay!
The home is set back a ways from the street down a long driveway on half an acre, giving the house plenty of privacy away from any nearby homes. The in-law unit is located above the detached garage, with a flight of 14 stairs to access the entrance. Off street parking in the driveway is provided. TV and high speed fiber internet. We live in the home adjacent to the detached in-law suite and have 2 small children, so noise levels in the evenings should be kept to a reasonable level.
Minutes away from Montclair Village and Glenview, both which offer great restaurants and coffee shops. Joaquin Miller Park, located 9 minutes from the home is a beautiful redwood park filled with hiking trails. Downtown Oakland and Lake Merritt are a short 15 minute Lyft ride away.
  • Anthony’s place is a true sanctuary. The big window overlooking the redwoods and trees creates the most perfect ambiance, and the space itself is designed beautifully. I was only there for one night, but wished I could’ve stayed longer! Always received quick responses, the space was clean and well equipped with everything you’d need. I’ll definitely book Anthony’s spot again for my next writing retreat!

  • Anthony has an awesome place. Definitely was an amazing place to stay for our vacation. 10/10

    Seth2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed at this little retreat over a weekend. There is a large window in the main room that looks out to a large redwood tree. You really feel like you are in the woods, though you are not far from the big city. The unit is cozy and stylish with lots of wonderful little accents. The kitchen is well stocked if you want to cook, as is the bathroom if you forget shampoo or lotion. They also provide some recommendations on local eateries nearby in case you'd rather eat out. All in all, our stay was very pleasant. I would definitely return to, and recommend, the Redwood Sanctuary.

  • Anthony's place far exceeded our expectations. The drive over to the airbnb provided stunning views along the way. We were greeted at the bottom of the drive way by beautiful turkeys. The place was very clean and cozy. We will definitely be staying there again.

Enjoy your own private room with separate entrance from the outside, small kitchen, fold out dining table, queen bed, and lots of natural light. Your private bathroom is adjoining, off a hallway with shared laundry between the studio and rest of the house.
Our newly renovated, secluded studio space has a queen sized bed with firm mattress, small fold out table and kitchen with sink, gas burners, small fridge, microwave, kettle, and french press for coffee. The room can easily accommodate two guests and is well set up to cook breakfast, lunch, or a simple dinner. The adjoining full bath includes a walk-in shower and is stocked with fresh towels and toiletries. We do have an additional charge of $30/ night for a second guest.
Our location in sunny Berkeley feels remote and tranquil even though we are very close to public transportation. We are 3 blocks away from the Ashby Bart stop which runs day and night into San Francisco, downtown Berkeley, and both the SFO and Oakland airports. There is also an AT Transit bus (#49) stop at the corner of ashby & king street. The quiet tree lined streets, lovely Victorian & Edwardian homes, and a bustling elementary school create a joyful and diverse neighborhood. There are several restaurants and cafes and the famous Berkeley Bowl grocery store within a short walk from the house.
  • This is a great place to rest your head!

Live like a king in this king sized room with a king sized bed! This house is way too close to shopping and entertainment with the movie theater, grocer, and Ikea less than five minutes away. Just a few blocks from public transportation and Ford bike rentals a few houses down. You can get anywhere from here whether it be Berkley, Oakland, or San Francisco! Extra mattress and/or sleeping bags provided upon request for those with more than two in your group.
Historic charm in a quiet home, this large bedroom boasts bright corner windows, hard wood floors, a large armoire, and of course the king sized bed.
Our block is surrounded by churches and there is shopping less than one half mile away where you can buy groceries, burgers, pizza and panda. Well... not an actual panda... you know what I mean.

Well stocked home with all amenities you may need. Was greeted every morning with fruits & donuts on the kitchen table. Very close to the city and great value just across the bridge without having to burn a hole in your pocket. Highly recommend!

  • when I use Airbnb it's almost always to rent a whole place. however, I was not disappointed in this private room for rent. the place was very clean and stylish, and checkin was easy. there is freeway noise, but I live by a freeway so that wasnt an issue. I would describe the neighborhood as more in transition (it is not unsafe but I wouldn't leave anything in my car). it was easy to hop on and off the freeway. mattress was firm but that's what I need for my back. definitely a great value for anyone needing a quick stopover for work, etc.

Clean and light-filled one bedroom apartment in KONO neighborhood. Less than a mile to BART (0.9 miles) and half a block to the bus, this centrally located apartment is perfect for commuting to downtown Oakland, Berkeley or San Francisco.
This 1906 Victorian home was renovated in 2011 and is split into three separate units. The available unit has beautiful wood floors and a full kitchen. The apartment can comfortably fit two people on a queen sized bed in the bedroom. A futon in the living room could sleep up to two more guests for an additional charge. Towels, sheets and bedding are provided. Parking is on the street and is free. Out back we are experimenting with urban homesteading and have a large garden, chickens and occasionally turkeys! Don't worry, we have no roosters and it's very quiet inside the apartment. Adjacent to the house is the freeway and BART tracks but inside the apartment you do not hear anything. The house has double-pane windows and a gas heater.
The neighborhood is up and coming, situated between downtown Oakland and Berkeley. Within a few blocks are numerous restaurants, coffee shops with wi-fi, bars, a halal market, and public transportation. Downtown Oakland is a vibrant area with music, night life, delicious restaurants and a thriving art scene. We recommend Burma Superstar for dining and visiting the New Parkway Theater for watching particular movies in a comfy couch while being served food. Also Lane Splitter is fantastic for a good pizza and the Scottish pub down the street has amazing beers and a great lamb pie. Going west from the house is a little rough but east along Telegraph Ave is a great street all the way north to Berkeley and south to downtown Oakland.
  • Charming apartment near downtown. Easy access to grocery stores. Host was very responsive!

    Peter2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Loved staying here! The apartment is adorable and had everything we needed for our stay. The location is great and we were able to walk to the BART station very easily. Would definitely come back again next time I need a place in California.

  • The place was perfect for my trip! Exactly what I needed, and everything was smooth as can be. Great location too, I was able to walk to anything I needed.

  • For quick business travel and short, fun stays, Joe and Jade's apartment is very conveniently located, quite clean, and was more than comfortable for my colleague and me. While parking on the street is free, a smaller car may work better as parallel parking can get tight. And, while the neighborhood seems to be on the come-up, those intimidated by those less fortunate on the streets might be uncomfortable in the neighborhood. However, we didn't experience any problems and Joe and Jade's property is well secured. We felt safe the entire time and enjoyed our stay. Would stay again.

  • Great space and great location. Just like the photos. The hosts are responsive and accommodating but not all up in your business, which I appreciate. The place gets amazing light. It’s also really nice and quiet. A really relaxing place to come back to after a day full of work and meetings. I’d highly recommend.

Large, romantic room with King sized bed, gas fireplace. We collect ethnic, Sacred, kinky and highly erotic art. Close to Bart (subway) and restaurants, this is a great home base for anyone wanting to explore Oakland, San Francisco, or the East Bay, with or without a car. Namaste, Blessed Be! 420 Friendly
We have a large collection of erotic, homoerotic, kinky and ethnic art, people tell us our house is like a museum. It's a big house, quiet and we have done everything we can think of to make it enjoyable for you. The 4poster bed is super comfortable and the gas fireplace easy to use and it keeps the room cozy. It's large enough for 3 people. We have a futon available and the couch is comfy. We welcome diverse lifestyles. The room has curtains and a folding screen rather then a conventional door. When people go upstairs you will hear them ( there are no other guests downstairs.) If you want a really totally quiet room check out my other, upstairs, rooms.
Over 100 restaurants are within a 2 mile radius (3K) Korean, Ethiopian, sushi, pizza, Mexican, everything from fast food to Michelin stared. Vibrant Hipster and arty part of Oakland with a high walking score. Oakland is an interesting urban environment, with it's share of the homeless, this can feel uncomfortable for some people however we have lived here 15 years and feel comfortable. Our street has always been safe. The whole Bay Area is accessible from here! There are yoga, dance and Pilates studios nearby as well. Our house is just 4 blocks from Bart (subway) you can be in downtown San Fransisco in twenty minutes, downtown Oakland or Berkeley in ten minutes. The Wine Country (Napa and Sonoma) the Redwoods, Silicon Valley are all accessible day trips (by car) This is a vibrant urban neighborhood, surprisingly quiet at night but there is always the potential for leaf blowers, home remodeling (after 8AM), barking dogs, car alarms, sirens, and other big city sounds. If you need extreme quiet please bring earplugs.
  • Great value and close to fun stuff on telegraph ave!

    Fletcher2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • I think this place is like the original Air bnb where it was like staying at a friends house and not like now how everyone is creating neutral, personality-less rooms for the general palette. This place is funky, creative, lived in, has flavor, history, intrigue and a warm casual welcoming. Many fantastic curious things to behold all around. Easy access & process. Quiet after 10 is a thing I did not expect tho. Besides that we were entirely charmed and comfortable.

    Lucid2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • The space was clean and welcoming. There were two available bathrooms that were both very clean. The home has a lot of character and beautiful art. It was walking distance to the MacArthur Bart station. The hosts were very responsive to messages and questions. All the guests at the home were polite. I travel alone and enjoy my time away alone, there was a great respect from the hosts and other guests when it came to privacy.

  • Wow, what a wonderful space! Soleil’s home was a beautiful eclectic mixing of art and friendly faces. There were so many things to catch our interest and the communication upfront was incredible as well. Our host was flexible with our check in time, which won big points after our travels! If you are looking for a unique and open hearted experience in the Oakland area, I would highly recommend staying at this listing.

    Sarah2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place if you need a place to crash in Oakland for a couple nights! Very cool space, great host communication, comfortable bed. One thing I would note — speaking at a normal volume in the room late at night we accidentally woke up the house manager who then had to come and ask us to stop talking, which we felt badly about. If you’re going to stay here, you should plan on not talking in the room after 10PM or so.

This listing is for one bed in a four-person room. This home operates like a hostel. There are three bedrooms, two rooms that sleep four people each, and a private room occupied by a long-term tenant. There are two shared bathrooms, a kitchen, living room and large back yard. The house is a ten-minute walk from the West Oakland BART station which is just one stop (around 8 minutes) from downtown San Francisco. It is also a quick BART ride to downtown Oakland and the nightlife there.
We started this Airbnb to emulate the hostels found in most of the rest of the world -- inexpensive with few frills, but providing the opportunity to meet fellow travelers from around the world and explore together. Every bed has a shelf, hook, reading lamp, and locker. We will assign you an open bed on the day you arrive, so it doesn't matter which listing you book. The downstairs bedroom has twin-sized two bunk beds; the upstairs bedroom (all the way to the left at the top of the stairs) has two twin beds and one full-sized bunk bed. Please note that because this is a shared room, there there will almost certainly be other people occupying the room. We do not discriminate. There may be people of different sex/race/age/nationality/sexual orientation/political or religious affiliation in the same room, so please don't book if you believe that would be a problem for you. SPECIAL NOTE: We are too small to maintain single-sex rooms, so if you are uncomfortable sleeping in a room with guests of the opposite sex, you should not book with us. It is possible you will be the only person of your gender in a bedroom.
West Oakland is a developing and diverse neighborhood. Some blocks are more dangerous than others. The half-mile route between the BART train and our house is well-lit and safe; but please exercise caution and maintain awareness of your surroundings. A lone traveller might feel more comfortable taking a taxi or uber after dark. The BART train runs by the house 6 am to midnight and can be loud, especially if the windows are open.

  • Mishaa’s space is really lovely. The cottage-style bedroom is a sweet little backyard retreat in the heart of Berkeley. Great balance between location and peacefulness in terms of a shorter term stay. Mishaa was responsive and a great artist!

  • This house is super nice especially for the value and is up on a hill near the Oakland zoo the view is absolutely amazing and the bedrooms are all the same size there is only one bathroom in the living room does not have a TV which is the only downside but it has a good size kitchen and there are TVs in both the guest bedroom we had an issue with the shower working with hot water but the host was able to communicate quickly and allow us to stay until the issue is fixed And gave us a very generous for our late check out so we could use the shower will definitely review and cannot be more grateful for such a quick response from host can’t wait to book again in the future
