Places to stay in Northumberland
***We are monitoring the Covid-19 situation and hope to open more dates soon*** Stay in a 20m2 geodesic dome in a secluded location in rural Northumberland. With a wood fired hot tub, fire pit, and deck with beautiful views of the pond and surrounding trees, it's a perfect spot to relax, unwind and get back to nature. The site is completely off grid - water in containers, solar power, and composting toilet. We believe this makes the site special, offering a unique back-to-basics experience.
Our ethos is to provide a simple but comfortable, tranquil space to 'unplug' from the modern world, with a minimal impact on the surrounding nature so that it can be enjoyed. Please read our description fully before booking to ensure that our dome and site is perfect for you. Satori dome is located on a working farm alongside a large pond. Spend your time watching wild ducks and swans through the panoramic bay window, or explore North Northumeberland before heading back to your site for a soak in the outdoor Japanese soaking tub, whilst star gazing from the deck. Our dome is set up for 2 people with a double bed and Eve© memory foam mattress (bedding is provided.) LED battery fairy lights and lanterns provide mood lighting inside and outside the dome at night, and logs are provided for the wood burning stove and fire to keep you cosy when it is cold outside. Outside on the deck is a gas BBQ for cooking and inside there is a worktop and sink set up for prepping simple meals and washing up dishes (plates, cutlery and utensils provided.) A camp stove and kettle is also provided if you wish to boil water for teas and coffee. A leisure battery powers a small 24 Litre electric cool box to keep food items cool. The battery also has a USB port to charge your devices. Our simple off-grid sink is setup with a 25 litre container of fresh spring water and hand pump tap for washing up. Your outdoor hot tub will be filled with fresh spring water for your arrival. It can be used 2-3 times and takes 2-4 hours to heat up (depending on the weather/season), and will usually stay warm overnight. Please note that in keeping with our ethos of having a low impact on the surrounding nature, soaps are NOT allowed to be used in the tub because of the harm they could cause to the aquatic life of the pond when the tub is drained. We do not (yet) have a shower at the dome, for most people this is not a problem as the hot tub water is clean and does not contain any chemicals, and makes you feel fresh afterwards. The Eco friendly composting toilet is set back from the dome. Whilst it is basic, please be assured that it is both clean and civilised :)
The site is rural (no postcode and the closest neighbours are sheep), but is not far from a main road with easy access to the market towns Wooler (10 mins), Alnwick (20 mins) and Berwick-upon-Tweed (30 mins), as well as the stunning coast (40 mins). There are plenty of local pubs and shops within an approximate 10 minute drive. The location is great for those seeking to explore Chillingham Castle, The Cheviot hills, Ingram Valley, Bamburgh Beach and many other spectacular locations.
  • We had such a lovely couple of days here! It was easy to find with the directions given, the dome was super clean and we had the most relaxing couple of days. Would highly recommend Hugh & Liz's place and we would love to come back in the summer.

  • I booked this stay for my partner's 30th birthday weekend and I can honestly say it did not disappoint. From start to finish the entire stay was perfect. The directions were so simple to follow, the drive alone was so scenic and beautiful. When we arrived we were amazed at how secluded the pod was and how peaceful and calming the environment was. The entire place was immaculate and had amazing touches such as mood lighting, playing cards etc. More than enough logs for the tub stove, log burner and campfire. Tub was absolutely incredible after a long day out. I would 1000% book up to stop here again. Thank you so much for having us.

  • Really lovely place to stay- bigger in person as well. Would recommend

    Kayleigh2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! Wow! Wow! This place does everything you think it would do and more. My wife and I spent 3 nights in the Dome and it felt like we had gone away for weeks! Hugh and Liz have a Gem of a location. The dome is so well situated and equipped that it is so easy to relax and enjoy the nature around you! The sounds of nature are like a sleeping drug for the soul. We did a day trip to Edinburgh which was as little as an hour and a half away, I mean hello... I recommend this place big time for people who just want things to slow down a little and get refreshed. Thank you for your great hospitality Hugh and Liz!

  • Great place, bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside. Complete isolation and a great view of the lake. Wood burning fire for inside and for the hot tub - plenty of logs provided. The bed is comfortable and the utilities do a basic job well. If you're into this sort of thing, this is just right.

  • Simply a wonderful experience, so peaceful and relaxing. The dome and its location are stunning, even in the middle of February! Using the hot tub under the blackest starry sky I’ve ever seen was blissful. I was worried about the toilet, but it was clean and very hygienic. It took us mire like 5 hours to heat up the tub, but only because we were being a little too cautious. Definitely leave the ash pan open a little on the hot tub stove to get the fire roaring and I’m sure it could be done in 3 hours. We left the curtains open to watch for shooting stars; just wonderful. We will stay there again in the summer or autumn to experience better weather, but this did not detract from a wonderful break.

    Michelle2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic place to get away and switch off from everything, loved all the extra touches and the setting of the dome is amazing. To be able to sit in a hot tub and star gaze on a cold February night was brilliant ☺️

    Louise2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Would definitely recommend. Weve just stayed in cold January and so long as the log burner was lit the dome was lovely and warm. Great waking up looking out over the lake. The hot tub takes awhile to heat as expected and stated but once reached heat it was boiling. Plenty of pubs in surrounding areas for a bite to eat. I imagine summer stays are fab with the bbq and fire pit

Great location situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Walks and cycling on the doorstep. Leisure facilities 1/2 mile away. Pub/ shops / restaurants 2 miles. Quarry Cottage is ideal for two adults ( no children ) visiting Northumberland and Durham. One small pet welcome. Please note....We also have the Barn next door, new for 2018. Property reference..... "Quarry Barn is a Luxury Barn Conversion" great views and super location. Both Cottage and Barn are just inside Northumberland.
Our cottage is detached from the main residence. One small well behaved dog welcome. Not suitable for infants only two adults. No WiFi through modem but 3g and 4g work well on your phone. The stairs are steep but manageable.
360 degree views overlooking beautiful country side.
  • The cottage is wonderful - gorgeously quaint and quirky with a beautiful and elegant mezzanine bedroom, cosy and comfy lounge area, well equipped, new kitchen and shower room. We had a delightful stay. The addition of wireless internet would make it perfect!

    Paul2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay in this beautiful cottage. Took the day to travel around Durham, and spent two nights at the cottage. Would definitely stay again.

  • This is the first time staying here and we couldn’t of asked for anything better. Michael was very warm welcoming and gave plenty of information on where we could go to visit. The cottage itself was sparkling clean and the log burner was a brilliant extra. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Thank you for a brilliant weekend

    Daniel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely hideaway in the countryside. The wood burner was fantastic after returning home from a walk in a blizzard! Very nicely furnished and a lovely cosy cottage feel about it. Top Tip: Take slippers. The floors can be cold on your feet in winter.

    Ben2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Michael was very welcoming, he provided us with lots of recommendations regarding where to walk / eat and drink. Cannot fault the cleanliness of the cottage. Perfect location just off of the A68 with plenty to do in the surrounding area. You won't be dissapointed.

    Joshua2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Just home from a two night stay with my friend. Despite the weather we’ve had a lovely couple of days in the cottage; the log burner and alpacas were a particular highlight for us! Hope to come back 😊

    Ashley2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A very cosy cottage with all you need for a relaxing getaway in the countryside. A couple of maintenance issues were dealt with promptly so that our stay was not affected. Would stay again.

    Eve2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the cottage - a very warm welcome from Michael and great tips for local pubs and walks. Just what we needed.

  • The Glass House is spectacular! It’s a cosy, beautiful space. The location is pretty epic and quite secluded. It is a little off the beaten track - that’s why we chose it. Some of the local roads in winter aren’t the best. We visited at the end of February in a small car, after three consecutive storms but we did find a route there that was easy enough. It’s well worth fully reading Julia’s directions to figure the best route for you to take. The underfloor heating keeps the place cosy even without the log burner. There are great local walks. Plenty of things to keep you busy in Allendale (1.5hr walk) and Hadrians Wall is just a short drive away. Julia is great, her farm is lovely - fully recommend and would happily visit again!

    Nick2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great location. First time away with our dog who also had a good time. Lots of good walks, short car journey to Allendale where pubs serve good food and even better pints.

    Lewis2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely funky little place, beautiful scenery, was a shame we had rain! There are chickens roaming about outside of the house and sheep in the fields nearby. Julia and her husband were so friendly and welcoming and have local recommendations. The place is very cosy with a huge log fire, we had a lovely time ☺️

    Rebecca2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Glass House is a stunning space I a stunning landscape. Perfect escape to the country with our black lab who loved the countless walks from the front door. Highly recommend and hope to be back one day!

    Laura2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We went away for a couple of nights and it was great. A cute little barn with everything we needed. And very very cosy. Enjoyed the fact that there was no WiFi and poor signal, made us appreciate the time together more and the lush views rather than being distracted. Very muddy in the wet as you'd expect but didn't let it put us off. Some lovely walks to be had.

    Aaron2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space! Beautifully furnished and heated floor was lovely on a cold, wet evening.

    Liam2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the Glass House! We did a bit of Isaac Tea Trail walk and it was just beautiful. Would love to stay again. Thank you!

    Alanna2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Had the most amazing stay. So tranquil and secluded. The house is so impressive, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Anything you need - it’s there. We used the log burner and the underfloor heating made it so warm and cosy on a windy, winters night. The whole place is just really special. 10 minutes in the car to nice little pubs and great food at the golden lion in Allendale. Julia is so quick to respond and leaves you to your own devices but you know she’s around should you need anything. A really unique place and beautiful surroundings. Can imagine it’s gorgeous in summer with the BBQ and lovely little garden. Thank you Julia!!!

Perfect for two, the Old Mill is a modern, cosy and eclectic conversion of 1700s water mill near the Royal Burgh of Lauder. This romantic bolthole is spacious and inviting - it's somewhere you can slow down and retreat from busy lives. Soak in a deep bath or rainforest shower, enjoy Meraki spa products, warmth from the woodburning stove, drink good coffee, cook, bake, read, or simply relax in the space around you. Edinburgh is just 40 mins away; most of the Scottish Borders is within 20 mins.
Dod Mill’s old, industrial water mill has undergone a thoroughly modern redesign as a rural escape for two. It’s unique and stylish interiors, thick stone walls, spacious living space and mezzanine bedroom with feature bath make this a wonderful place to retreat from day-to-day life. The Old Mill retains many original features including the stable-style door at the entrance. You’ll pass through the porch into the large and open living space on the ground floor. The kitchen and dining areas open out into a double-height living space with a huge woodburning stove as the focal point of the room. Decorated throughout in Farrow & Ball, the space is light yet cosy with soft grey painted floors (underfloor heating), interesting fabrics and handmade shutters. The living area has a large sofa-bed (add guests on request), a thick vintage Moroccan rug, and some interesting decorative touches like a French balloon mould and antique chapati rolling pins. You’ll find a TV with Freesat (all standard UK channels), a DVD player, board games and a selection of books and maps. WiFi is available throughout the property. The rich aubergine-coloured kitchen is equipped for relaxed, holiday cooking. It has a sociable kitchen island, fan oven, 2-ring hob, dishwasher, a large fridge-freezer, kettle, toaster and a Nespresso machine for those in need of their daily caffeine fix. You’ll find artisan-made mugs, crockery, cutlery and glassware, as well as a cake stand, wooden boards and a good selection of serving platters and dishes. The large oak-topped dining table seats 6 so there is plenty of space to spread out, or invite friends over from other properties at Dod Mill (or in the area). You can also ask for the table to be extended to 12 if you’d like to entertain a larger group while staying in the Old Mill. Head upstairs to the mill’s original mezzanine floor, now converted to a bedroom. The super-comfy bed is king size and is made-up with anti-allergy bedding and pure Egyptian cotton linens. Have a long soak in the bedroom’s roll top bath, with Meraki spa-style products. The bath’s big enough to share, or enjoy on your own with a good book and a glass of wine. The en-suite shower room has a rainforest-style shower, soft-scented Meraki soap, shampoo and conditioner plenty of soft, fluffy towels. There is an additional “downstairs loo”. Head out the door by the woodburning stove and you’ll find an outdoor table and chairs and a small woodland garden area.

Melrose Abbey, Kelso Abbey and Dryburgh Abbey are also each within 20-25 minutes. Other places of real note include the home of tartan, Lochcarron Visitor Centre, and the Borders Distillery & Visitor Centre (whisky and craft gin). The Borders has a number of superb festivals and events over the year, including the acclaimed Borders Book Festival, the Borders Art Fair, Tour of the Borders (cycling), the Great British Food Festival (at Floors Castle) to name a few. Edinburgh is just 40 minutes drive away, and has so much for visitors to see and do. It makes for an easy day trip or two during your stay.
  • This was our first time using an Airbnb and Dodd mill didn’t disappoint, Ruth made us feel so welcome on our arrival, the Mill is absolutely idilic, it was so warm and cosy it made the perfect romantic getaway. We are already planning our return.

    Paul2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Everything is lovely, stylish and very thoughtful in Ruth's place. We really enjoyed our stay, and would definitely love to come back!

  • Ruth and Jamie are lovley and caring hosts. They do everything to make their guests feel home and comfortable. We have spent a wonderful week at Dod Mill together with our dog. The area and grounds of Dod Mill have more than exceeded our expectations. The old mill is lovingly furnished and decorated and invites you to relax with every detail. All you need (Restaurants, Takeaway or Shops) is easily to reach by car. Dod Mill is always worth a trip for us and we fully recommend staying there!

  • A lovely place for a bit of down time away from the stresses of modern life. Perfect!

    Kevin2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Came with our little dog for a few nights away and The Mill exceeded our expectations. It was exactly what we wanted, nice local walks, peaceful area, cosy log fire, comfortable bed and large bath. Generous hamper on arrival and each bathroom had lovely soaps and fresh towels. We loved all the finishing touches and how homely the place felt, particularly in providing things like a cake stand and a Bluetooth speaker, which were in use throughout our stay. We were sad to leave and wished we could have stayed longer. Thanks Ruth for a wonderful stay.

    Grace2019-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The mill was lovely, the welcome basket was a thoughtful touch by Ruth. The pictures do not do the mill justice, the bed is extremely comfortable. We will definitely stay again!

    Natalie2019-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Dod Mill is a location not to skip past. The hosts went above and beyond to make this a very enjoyable stay, to endless wood supplies for the woodburner to unexpected goodies on arrival which were very generous. The attention to detail from the design of the building to the spa/shampoo products, soft towels, immense bath and bath bombs, were second to none. I would go back here in a heart beat and would highly recommend you to also check it out!

    Jenna2019-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • We go away every year for our anniversary and this is the first Airbnb we have booked and first place where the owner lives on site, which we were a bit apprehensive about at first. However, Ruth is such a lovely person and left us to it after giving us excellent instructions on how various items within the property worked. She has in depth instructions in a folder for how everything works and is very easily contactable, as is plenty of other services, through the extensive list of contacts within the folder. The space is fantastic and Ruth and Jamie have paid excellent attention to detail in their decor and interiors. The location is lovely with some beautiful scenic walking routes close by. Would definitely recommend this stay to all! You are both fantastic hosts and I hope yous manage to get some time away together child free!

Otterburn is situated on the edge of the Northumberland National Park on the A696, being a perfect overnight stop for those en-route to and from Scotland and for guests attending the various wedding venues at Woodhill Hall ( approximately 1 mile), Le Petit Chateau ( approximately 250 metres) and Otterburn Castle Hotel (approximately 300 metres). The neighbourhood is peaceful, the silence only broken by the sound of birds both wild and domesticated and the odd vocal sheep. The domesticated variety of bird are actually very well behaved. Ideally your own car is the best way to get around. There are buses that run to Jedburgh and Newcastle but are fairly infrequent. Otterburn does however provide a good base point for walkers and cyclists looking to explore the Northumberland countryside. Otterburn Castle and the Border Reiver village shop (which stocks virtually anything and everything) are easily accessed on foot from the property. We will provide one basket full of logs for the wood burner. We will also provide some essentials, such as tea, coffee and sugar. Please just ask us for further information prior to your stay as we will try to accommodate for all guests as best that we can.

  • The Arches is beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. It was wonderful to get the log burner going; so cosy. Erika and Steve are great hosts who added some lovely touches such as milk and Prosecco! We were attending a wedding locally, so didn't venture out of Otterburn, but it's ideally placed for exploring the borders and fantastic value.

Puffin Place is a great little holiday hideaway set in the historic conservation area of Seahouses and is perfect for couples or small families / groups. The cottage is in a peaceful location but just a minute from the harbour with the Northumbrian Coastal Path just at the end of the lane.
We bought Puffin Place in April 2018 both in order to be able to use the cottage ourselves and hire out to visitors. It takes just an hour to get to from our home in Newcastle, and once there we rarely feel the need to use the car except when we're taking a day-trip to one of the many nearby sites of interest. In the time we have spent in the Seahouses everyone seems very friendly, even by North-East standards. Seahouses is a 'resort village' with something for everyone and is ideally located in the centre of the Northumbria coastline. All the other attractions of the Northumbria coast are within a short drive: to the north (Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and Berwick); to the south (Craster, Beadnell and Embleton) and inland to Alnwick and a multitude of picturesque villages and other attractions. The cottage is tucked away in a quiet location in the oldest part of the village, among the smokeries and fishermen's cottages, but just a few minute's walk from the bustling harbour and the centre of the town. Despite its history - it was built in around 1850 - the cottage has been fully modernised and run as a popular holiday let since 2001.
Puffin Place is is located within a 2 minute walk of the Seahouses village amenities where there's a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants. Guests can take daily boat trips available to the Farne Islands, the home of seals and seabirds and explore the surrounding area filled with wildlife. There are beautiful sandy beaches to the north and south with lots of places of interest just a short journey away. Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island are a short run up the coast and the historic market town of Alnwick along with castle and gardens is a 20 minute drive inland.
  • Lovely cozy cottage set in the heart of town close to anything you might need. Leave the car behind and walk or bus the whole area. Great little base. Many thanks to the owners

  • Wonderful relaxing stay. The walk to Cuthberts cave from the front door was a nice surprise. Not too far from Bambrugh and Holy Island approx 15 mins in the car. The cottage itself is beautiful, amazing bed! Louise is extremely helpful and would love to revisit the area again.

  • Lovely cosy hideaway in a beautiful, rural location. St cuthbert’s cave is within walking distance and the cottage is also close to stunning coastlines and the cheviots. Little touches like wine and snacks, toiletries, robes and nespresso coffee machine made the trip extra special. We loved the hot tub and wood fire to warm up after a day of walking. Best of all the cottage is dog friendly so our puppy could join in the fun too!

    Lisa2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great place and location!

    James2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully furnished cottage in a rural setting, close to the Cheviots and cost but far from the reach of our mobile phone networks!!! Highly recommended for those wishing to use as a base to explore this wonderful region.

  • Lovely cottage in a quiet and rural area. The cottage was very clean and came with Instructions on how to use various appliances around the house. The house and it’s facilities were great and came with everything you needed (even washing machine and tumble dryer) along with a few nice touches of a bottle of wine and crisps, etc. Louise was very helpful with replies and came round within a few minutes to help with any issues, as well as giving us a map route for a nearby walk. Had a brilliant sleep every night due to how amazingly comfy the bed was and how silent the surrounding areas were. The WiFi however can be a bit temperamental but it’s a good chance to get away from it all and relax Overall had a great stay and couldn’t recommend it more.

    Sofia2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Second time staying here - we loved it the first time and it was just as good the second time around. Loved the hot tub, and all the little extras (like robes, towels, etc) were lovely. Louise was very helpful with a couple of questions we had, with quick responses. Already working out when we can next go back!!

We had the most relaxing stay, the pod was sparkling clean and beautifully designed, the log burner was cosy and the decking and hot tub is lovely and private. Our host Sue even got in touch to say we could stay longer than the usual check out to shelter from the miserable weather! We will definitely book again.

  • Just had three amazing nights in the countryman... it did not disappoint! Fantastic views, perfectly private hot tub and deck area. The pods are beautifully furnished with homely touches. Brilliant location for exploring the local areas such as Kielder park and hadrians wall!! We will definitely visit again

  • Beautiful location and accommodation with friendly hosts. Loved getting out the city and into the middle of the country and the hot tub was a great wee bonus even in the middle of a storm! Hosts were so accommodating of our toddler and dog, providing a cot and high chair and making us all feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend!

  • Lovely pod. Will be back!

    Hannah2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • This was truly one of our most memorable and amazing weekend breaks, one that won't be forgotten. Neil, thank you so so much for the hospitality you was amazing. We will definitely be back again soon. Can't speak highly enough about the experience. We will definitely be recommending you to others. Only thing I would say is the pictures you have online for the pods and the surrounding area do not do it justice at all. The pods are stunning, brilliantly designed and built and the perfect size. You truly feel like you're the only people there. And even though all the pods were occupied we didn't hear or see anyone else. Secluded and truly beautiful. Can't wait to come back

    Geraint2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • AMAZING! Perfect for couples, really lovely local town with nice pubs! We loved it and can’t wait to return. Really easy going, friendly hosts who were more than happy to help with any problems. Can tell the hosts have worked really hard to create an amazing experience, highly recommend.

    Felicity2019-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful property tucked away in beautiful surroundings! Real peace and quiet loads of local wildlife. Fabulous welcome hamper and all one could need for a comfortable stay.

    Sam2019-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is a delight from start to finish. The situation is unique alongside the river and with the abbey nearby, with walks straight from the front door of the cottage. We loved star gazing on a couple of nights and bird watching/listening just along the path. It is finished to a high spec, lovely and warm with underfloor heating and a very comfy lounge where you can kick back and relax very easily. It is very spacious. There is everything you could need in the kitchen and all really good quality and the goodies hamper was delicious. When we needed a lock sorting out someone was round really quickly. And when we needed assistance when my husband became unwell Mark was down straight away and we had support from Carol and the cleaning team as well and also from The English Heritage staff member at The Abbey. I cannot recommend this property and Mark and his team too highly

A romantic, rural retreat for couples wanting to get away from it all. Set entirely within an acre of private grounds, St Bede is a cleverly converted 'hemmel' cottage providing compact modern accommodation in a contemporarily stylish, light & airy setting. St Bede is an ideal base to explore the stunning Northumberland county with it's panoramic beaches, spectacular castles & breathtaking moorlands. St Bede has a private courtyard, a great place to sit out & enjoy the surrounding landscape.
At a glance, will St Bede work for you ? -The ground floor compromises studio style accommodation with a living area, kitchen & bathroom. -The main sleeping area is accessed via a spiral staircase to the mezzanine where there is a double bed. -Broadband wifi throughout the property. -Off road parking. -No pets allowed. -Northumberland was voted the best UK holiday county in the 2018 British Travel Awards. -Upon arrival at St Bede our guests receive a welcome pack as well as complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits & milk to get their stay underway. Bed linen, towels & tea towels are also provided. -Private setting with adjacent cottages also available through Airbnb to rent.
-St Bede at The Old Mill is located in the small hamlet of Littlemill, four miles north east of Alnwick. -Please be considerate when entering & leaving the hamlet to your fellow neighbours, both human & animal ! -The cottage is situated halfway between Alnwick & Craster so is perfectly placed for guests to visit the fantastic coastal spots, castles & stunning Northumberland National Park which are all within easy travelling distance by car. -Craster on the beautiful heritage coastal route is only 2.5 miles away, the picturesque fishing village is world famous for it's smoked kippers & the glorious walk from it's harbour to Dunstanburgh Castle. -Howick Hall Gardens are nearby & well worth a visit, with banks of rhododendrons, camellias & magnolias in the springtime. -A visit to Holy Island, which is reached via a tidal causeway & is famous for the Lindisfarne Gospels, is a must. -Don't forget the pretty village of Bamburgh with its majestic castle overlooking the expansive sandy beach. -Alnwick Castle & Garden, with its spectacular grand cascade waterfall & tree house restaurant, are 4 miles away. St Bede & The Old Mill-A potted history. -As the name suggests The Old Mill was once a water mill & the remains of the mill wheel can be seen at the rear of the property. -If you look to the left while facing the building you will see a field which was once the site of a medieval village known as 'Little Houghton'. Corn mills were a common feature of such villages, so it is likely that a mill has stood at this location since this time. The name 'Little Houghton' was later reused & today there is a nearby village known by the same name. The earliest the mill buildings appear on a map is around 1820. -The lime kiln (Grade 2 listed) on the opposite side of the road approaching the hamlet of Little Mill would have been a large local employer when in use. Extraction started in the 18th century & it was one of the largest in the country with it's own railway siding. The limestone was burnt with coal to produce quicklime for use in fertiliser & mortar. -There was once a railway station at Little Mill (1847 to 1965), families from Gateshead & Newcastle enjoyed holidays in nearby Craster, alighting at Little Mill & walking with their luggage the two miles down to the coastal village. -The Old Mill building was derelict until purchased from the local land owning Howick family in the late 1980's & was subsequently bought by an order of the Catholic church known as the 'Helpers of the Holy Souls' & run by nuns as a retreat. Local legend has it that Maxine Carr, accomplice to the Soham murders, resided here on her release from prison under a new identity. -The two smaller cottages (known as 'hemmels'), St Bede & St Cuthbert were once the home of farm animals but were converted in 2001. In fact, the word 'hemmel' means a simple shelter in a field for cattle or hay. -The current owner bought the house in 2007 & in 2017 extensively renovated the property to make the accommodation more comfortable as well as securing the fabric of the building & outlying grounds for future generations. -Please 'like' our page on the 'Book of Face' in order to be kept up to date with all things with regard to St Bede & Northumberland.

He let us check out later on the Sunday as he had no one else arriving and there was a bad storm which was really nice of him. The Hut is really well designed myself my partner and our dog Bodhi enjoyed every minute of our stay. Definitely recommend staying here.

Riding Hills Farm is a cosy, attractive and well equipped one bedroomed cottage situated in one of the prettiest and most interesting parts of Northumberland. Within two miles of the historic town of Corbridge, this comfortable cottage is tucked away in a rural location with stunning views over the Tyne Valley. Despite its rural setting it is close to some excellent pubs and restaurants, and the market town of Hexham.
The cottage is attached to our farmhouse with a private entrance and enclosed garden, and is situated in just under an acre of grounds with many excellent walks and places to visit nearby. We are close to several key Roman sites in the area including Corstopitum and Hadrian’s Wall. Newcastle is 18 miles away and the stunning Northumberland coastline is only a little further.
Our cottage is situated above the beautiful Tyne Valley, and from your garden there are stunning views to enjoy over an alfresco lunch or evening drink. The enclosed garden is exclusively for the use of our guests and you are free to help yourselves to any garden produce in season including raspberries, blackcurrants and rhubarb. Our nearest village, Corbridge, has a multitude of lovely cafes and interesting shops to explore, not to mention several very good pubs and restaurants, all of which are listed in our cottage guide along with much other useful information.
  • A lovely and cosy cottage with homely finishing touches, including eggs from Debbie and Duncan's chickens and some damson jam on arrival! We were made to feel really welcome and had everything we needed in the house - the bath and shower were amazing! The cottage was also very clean and the location was great. Lots to see and do in the area.

  • Beautiful cottage in a lovely location. Close to lots of brilliant walks and days out, as well as amenities in nearby Corbridge/Hexham. Very peaceful with great views from the garden. The cottage is clean and clomfortable with lots of individual touches. Debbie and Duncan were great hosts, left a lovely welcome package and were very helpful. Will be back again.

  • Beautiful location with stunning scenery and plenty of walks nearby. The cottage is perfect for relaxing and Debbie is an excellent host, could not recommend this place enough!

    Maryam2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious cottage with great views. Although you can walk into Corbridge, it takes about 30 minutes and there are lengths of the main road that have no pavements, so you need to be wary of traffic. There is a reliable half-hourly bus service into Corbridge and Hexham going west, and into Newcastle going east. Both bus stops are a 5-minute walk from the cottage, on the main road.

    Mac2019-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truely magical, the bathroom was incredible both the bath and the shower were special features, the kitchen is a very decent size, everything about this place exceeds expectation, both Debbie and Duncan will go above and beyond to offer any help you need. The scenic beauty and the silence and peace is emotionally transforming. I was truely sad to leave and will definatley be back. Thank you Both Debbie and Duncan for being such outstanding hosts. Xxx I cannot recommend this place enough!!!

The Coldstream Gallery is a lovely spot to browse art, ceramics and jewellery by local designers; or pop into Calico Interiors for lifestyle gifts and accessories before coffee and cake at the charmingly named ‘Mad Hatter’ nearby. A number of larger supermarkets, including a Marks & Spencers food outlet can be found in the historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (13 miles), or picturesque Kelso (14 miles) which has an excellent selection of independent shops set around a Flemish style market square. The cottage is located in the heart of North Northumberland and is exceptionally well placed for exploring the wider area. Seven miles in one direction will take you to the edge of the Northumberland National Park, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty with over 400 square miles of stunning landscapes, criss-crossed by over 700 miles of walking, biking and riding trails which follow the routes of ancient cattle drovers, taking in Iron Age stone fortifications and traces of Bronze Age hillforts amidst the tranquil and rugged landscape. Hop into your walking boots and you can join Northumberland Park Rangers for a guided walk from Wooler where you will learn much about the heritage and wildlife of the area, or follow sections of St. Cuthbert’s Way and enjoy some outstanding vistas along the route as it winds its way to the dune-fringed sands on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. For cycling, you will find everything from gentle low-level meanders to big hill country treks, including long-distance routes such as the Pennine Cycleway or the cycle challenges of the Wooler Wheel Hub. For families, the Breamish Valley is a popular area with pretty river picnic spots where children can paddle, followed by a walk to the lovely waterfall at Linhope Spout where you may even spot some wild Cheviot goats along the way. Alternatively, a warm welcome awaits you at Ford & Etal Estates (3 miles) which has a super range of family friendly activities with over twenty attractions to explore. Take a ride on Bunty on the very charming 15” gauge steam railway, follow the mouse trail around the Heatherslaw Corn mill or there is fishing, canoeing, cycle hire and a riding centre all nearby. For art lovers, a must-visit is the pre-Raphaelite murals at the Lady Waterford Hall, or explore the ruins of Etal Castle or the local heritage sites of nearby Flodden or Duddo Standing Stones, Northumberland’s equivalent of Stonehenge. The stunning heritage coastline is just a short half-hour drive away with miles of pristine sandy beaches, jolly pubs serving the freshest fish and chips, and picture postcard coastal villages with charming galleries and gift shops. Experience the exhilarating thrill of kitesurfing at Bamburgh, coasteering at Beadnell or perhaps just the simple pleasures of a picnic and a game of beach cricket on sands which remain almost deserted even in the summer months. History buffs will be enchanted by the rich heritage of the area, where dramatic castles and grand stately homes punctuate the landscape here, including imposing Bamburgh perched on its rocky outcrop above Bamburgh Beach; Alnwick, star of the Harry Potter films; or Chillingham, said to be the most haunted castle in Britain and home to the only wild cattle in the world. Fishing is available on the River Till about a ten minute drive and is one of the area's best kept secrets with an impressive sea trout run each spring said to be the best in the country. Trout permits are available for as little as £5 per day and rods, reels and waders can be hired locally.

  • Perfect little house for two - plus dog. Beautifully presented, great location. So quiet and peaceful. Welcome pack with home made goodies was a bonus. We made trips to Lindisfarne, Berwick, a boat trip to the Farne Islands and to the battle site at Flodden Field. The Collingwood Arms at Cornhill-on-Tweed and The Border at Kirk Yetholm are well worth a visit to eat in the evening. Very relaxing few days.

This Amble cottage is perfect for exploring Northumberland and the surrounding area.
I moved to Amble by the Sea five years ago and I just love it! Here are just a few things; 1. A proper working harbour with sea going boats..when they land the fish, gulls whirl about to see what they can steal and there’s a beach to meander on. There are boats for hire to see Coquet Island..a bird sanctuary about a mile off the coast ...or for fishing trips, at the Harbour too. 2. A lovely, picturesque Marina to have a walk around with a nice bar, with views going up to Warkworth one way and down to the pier the other. Great place to take sunset photos. 3. Last year, Amble won the best coastal High Street. We have a great selection of shops and , at a time when some High Streets are declining, we’re expanding. 4. The Pods..these are upended boats made into little, cute craft and artisan shops. Located at the Harbour, round the corner from the cottage. 5. Great restaurants on the doorstep! No taxi required. The Boatyard has won awards for the last 2 years as the best fish restaurant in the U.K. 6. A good selection of pubs and coffee shops. A new cafe bar has just opened at the Harbour serving terrific food. 7. Lovely walks..by the sea or in the country..Amble is also very cycle friendly..hire bikes are available locally. Kayaks and surf/paddle boards are also available for hire. 8. Golden beaches that stretch for miles...even in the Summer you can find stretches of beach with no one else there! 9. Lots of local picturesque villages..castles..secluded bays..nice pubs..great restaurants..all within a few miles of Amble by the Sea. 10. And ..the greatest Northumberland foible...you can’t go anywhere without people saying ‘hello’ to you. Amble by the Sea isn’t called ‘the friendliest port’ for nothing!
  • Our second time staying at Dovecote Corner and it did not disappoint! The cottage has everything you’ll need and its so cosy. • This is a great quirky base to explore Amble and the surrounding areas. Di was very helpful in giving tips for dog friendly places to eat. There are nice little welcome touches like fresh milk biccies and logs for the cosy fire which you can chill in front of after a busy day walking eating and drinking. Literally a few minutes walk to the centre and harbour and lots of little gems a short walk or drive away. We have completely fallen in love with Amble and even looked on Rightmove haha. Highly recommend - thanks for a fab stay Jo Nick & Freddie the poo xx

  • We loved our stay at Rowanside. It is a cosy cottage with a nice living room and two bedrooms. The WiFi is great and there was satellite TV. The fire was amazing for keeping warm at night. We used the entire basket of logs left for us over two nights. Highly recommended.

  • Ben’s house is the perfect place to get away from it all, chill out and explore the beautiful countryside, which is literally accessible from the doorstep. The house is warm and inviting, and the real fire is a particular treat, especially after a long walk. Ben was excellent at keeping in touch and supplying lots of useful information. I highly recommend Ben and his charming house!

  • Beautiful little cottage in a lovely area - enjoyed our 2 nights stay and would definitely book again if we were coming back. Cosy place, enjoyed lots of nice walks and a blustery visit to the picturesque St Abb's lighthouse! Ben was very quick to respond to messages and was very helpful to sort out picking up my forgotten bath bag! Thank you for a lovely stay :)

  • Lovely, cosy and comfortable cottage with lots of character indeed. Communication with Ben great. Checkin no problem. Everything perfectly in order and super toasty when we arrived. Had a great stay. 10 out of 10.

    Ann Louise2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • We rented Ben's Place for a few days in January and weren't disappointed. Finding it was quite straightforward although, as Ben says, it is in a very small hamlet so make sure you have been shopping beforehand. I thought I might be cold at night but a wealth of little extras ensured I wasn't - hot water bottles, log burner and plenty of blankets. The double bed was one of the comfiest I'd slept in. Location is quite beautiful with a babbling stream to the front and lots of birds in the bushes behind. Didn't miss not having phone reception. If you drive to Edinburgh you have to travel across the Lammermuir Hills which are breathtaking by day but not for faint-hearted drivers, particularly at night!

    Samantha2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Ben’s cottage is one of those Airbnb’s that make you feel so lucky to have stayed in as a guest. The space itself coupled with the area was really incredible. We had a fantastic time in Longformacus, there’s so much to do nearby either driving or walking. We found plenty of walks around nearby for the dog. Check in was simple, the property was impressively clean and warm when we arrived. The kitchen has everything you could need, we loved the space upstairs and the views of plants and birds from the windows. As other guests have mentioned, crumpets, butter and jam are left which is a really thoughtful touch, as well as hot water bottles, blankets and board games.

  • Lovely little cottage surrounded by gorgeous countryside. Feels remote despite being easily accessible by car. Beautiful views of the dramatic Simonside Hills, which you can walk up to straight from the door. Melanie was a great host - we especially loved all the nice cosy touches in the cottage and the fantastic stove. Highly recommend!

  • Would highly recommend this stay. The fire was lit and lights on for our arrival on a horrid winters night there was also cake on the side and milk in fridge. The location is beautiful with access to simonside at the top and the wetlands at the bottom of the valley, perfect for walkers and dogs. The cottage has everything you need to be self sufficient as there’s shops in Rothbury for ingredients and plenty of places to eat out if not. The weather was 80mph winds with rain on one of our evenings and we felt safe and warm in by the fire. Will most certainly be back again.

  • We had a wonderful stay at the spacious Boathouse. We were kept entertained by the many things to do in the area, but all looked forward to returning to the Boathouse each afternoon to relax. The beds were so comfortable that our children slept past 7am each day, which is unheard of! Our five-year-old said he wanted to stay 'forever' which is endorsement indeed! We particularly enjoyed watching the birds in the garden and listening to the babbling stream, and the children loved playing with the outdoor games equipment. A tranquil, restorative place.

  • Very tidy and lovely modern cottage, equipped with everything you need. The back garden was very peaceful with great views for us and also good place for our dog to enjoy.

  • Comfy beds, lovely decor, quiet and convenient location, kind host and thoughtful recommendations (especially for dog owners). Need I say more! If you're lucky enough to have a chance to stay here, do so.

  • Beautiful little location in Riding Mill, short drive to the Roman homesteads and Hadrian’s wall which was beautifully scenic and tranquil. The boathouse is exquisite with soft comfy beds and spacious bathrooms. Had to cut the trip short due to car trouble, but looking forward to staying again.

  • Boathouse is a stylish, warm and contemporary living space. It is set in a garden, next to our host's home, in a quiet and peaceful cul de sac. It's located a short drive away from the delightful village of Corbridge. We were pleased with the dog friendly approach of our host and the many local options for spending time with our pet Greyhound.

  • Lovely cottage very high standard furnishing and also small touches such as hot water bottles, fire already to be lit and stacks of fire wood. Very friendly neighbours. Great views and location. 5 of us stayed and our dog and was very spacious. Look forward to visiting again.

  • Had a great stay at David's cottage! Well appointed with everything required for your stay. David was really quick to answer any queries and help sort a couple of issues. All the neighbours we met were very friendly (including a four legged 1 who tried to jump into our car boot!) The cottage serves as a good base for visiting around the Borders which has lots of pretty, picturesque wee towns. We ate at the Greenhouse Cafe in Melrose and Simply Scottish in Jedburgh and would recommend both. Good food and friendly staff. Would make 2 small suggestions for improvement: the shower base doesn't have any grip or mat so was a little slippy to walk on. And a long lighter would come in handy for starting the fire, especially if you run out of matches which we did! Neither of these things spoiled our stay though and all 3 of us would happily return.

    Joanna2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely rustic cottage with wonderful wood burning fie to curl up beside.

    Christine2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful cottage - we were there in December and, despite the cold weather, felt very cosy thanks to the wood-burning stove and comfortable furnishings. We used all 3 double bedrooms - all the beds were very comfortable with the extra blankets and hot water bottles being a nice touch. The cottage is beautifully designed and renovated, and is very well appointed. It lies off a country lane about 10 mins south of St Boswell's where we visited with family. This is an excellent location for exploring this part of the Borders and the nearby towns like Melrose, Selkirk, and Peebles. The host, David, was very responsive and able to answer any questions promptly. All in all, our stay was a real treat!

    Fiona2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay and the cottage was beautiful. Lots of space and a lovely design, we particularly loved the house plants. All the extras were great like the robes, shampoo, and condiments. Also lots of useful advice and tips, there was more to see than we had time for! we're hoping to come back in the new year and explore a bit more.

    Rosanna2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our second trip to this gorgeous house. We once again had stunning weather and enjoyed the gorgeous colours of the forest on our walks. This is a perfect place to enjoy some peace and quiet. The house is equipped with everything you need.

Visit England Gold Award cottage. The Byre at Bog Mill, Alnwick is situated down a quarter mile private track and overlooks the River Aln, on the outskirts of Alnwick and three miles from beach. A spacious self contained cottage for two with double bedroom. Open plan living area with feature arched windows overlooking the garden. Safe parking is adjacent to the cottage and secure storage for bicycles is available. WiFi is free of charge within the cottage. No smoking. No pets.
The Byre is recently refurbished self catering cottage. It is one of 3 cottages converted from the former farm buildings of Bog Mill, which is no longer a working farm. I have tried hard to create a space for relaxation and comfort yet fully equipped for all your self catering needs. If possible for weekly bookings a Friday arrival and departure day is preferred.
The Byre is located within beautiful countryside and overlooking the River Aln yet right on the edge of Alnwick town. Alnwick is interesting and historic with the Alnwick Castle at it's heart. Alnwick gardens created by the Duchess is well worth a visit as is the world famous Barter Books- the perfect warm and cosy retreat all year round. Just a few more minutes drive will take you to some breathtaking beaches and castles galore. A trip further inland will reward you with majestic hills and countryside enough to let you walk for miles probably without seeing another soul if that's what you choose.
  • What a glorious long weekend we spent at the Byre! A perfect location to relax, unwind and from which to explore the Northumberland coastline. The Byre is beautiful and the location is peaceful and relaxing. Rachel, the host, had thought of everything and all necessities were provided- great attention to detail and the interior is so cosy and welcoming. A great spot to explore, to rest, and (if skies are clear) stargaze! Can't wait to come back!

Kay's hospitality was next to none. She put all the services we expected and more. What a lovely breakfast she prepared for us with lots of choice. Our bed was cosy and the cabin was warm. On top of all that a bathroom where everything worked and so stylish. We could keep talking about the cabin and Kay but must just say you will not be disappointed.

This lovely period Cottage is situated in an idyllic rural village and offers views over the River Coquet, perfect for a relaxing, enjoyable stay. Just yards from the front door is the riverbank, with miles of beautiful riverside walks leading into the stunning countryside. The Cottage is accessed through a state of the art keyless entry system leading into the Entrance Hall. In the entrance hall you will find a corner storage unit and towels provided for you to dry down your pet, should you wish to bring one with you. The Cottage has full gas central heating and is fully equipped and includes high speed fibre broadband (Wi-Fi). The Entrance Hall leads into the comfortable and stylish Lounge. There is a 40" LCD television with built in DVD player and Sky Freeview HD, BluRay Player and a collection of books, games and DVD's. The Dining Room has an original open grate fireplace with bread oven, wood surround and marble hearth. It comfortably seats four people and is complete with a drinks cabinet full of cut crystal glasses and a wine rack. There is also an off street parking area opposite the Cottage. Please note that one well behaved dog is welcome to stay at the Cottage.
Riverside Cottage was built around 1895 by the Duke of Northumberland. The area surrounding West Thirston and indeed the whole of Northumberland is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Village of West Thirston is separated from the village of Felton by the River Coquet that runs in front of the Cottage. Spanning the River Coquet are two bridges: Felton old bridge (pictured right) and Felton new bridge. The old bridge has now been pedestrianised and is scheduled as an ancient monument and as a building of architectural and historic interest. There is no definite date for this old bridge, but it or an even older bridge may have existed here since the 13th century. Whatever the date, it is a fine old bridge of three arches, Grade 2 listed, and widened at some time on the upstream side, probably in the 1800s. The new replacement bridge was built in 1926 and although not considered to be as attractive as the old bridge, it is itself a grade II listed construction. Even the telephone box next to the old bridge is grade II listed! Just over the bridge from Riverside Cottage is The Running Fox, a small, chic establishment nestled by the River Coquet. As well as offering it's own uniquely crafted cafe menu there is a new bakery on-site which serves a wide range of artisan breads, signature pies, traditional cakes and scones. The Running Fox is licensed to sell newspapers and also stock a small range of locally sourced produce and gifts from the surrounding Villages. Also within short walking distance of the Cottage are The Northumberland Arms which has undergone a stunning renovation and is already one of the top places to eat in Northumberland!

Welcome to Lee View Set in a small rural hamlet of just a few houses, with stunning views as well as peace and quiet. We have tried to make the cottage a special place, and hope it will make a nice change of scene for our guests. Ideal for walkers and cyclists, as well as those wanting to visit the many historic sites and country houses in Northumberland. Lee View is just a 10 minute drive from Rothbury with a Co Op and a variety of other shops. We are 25 minutes from Morpeth and Alnwick.
An open plan layout, a modern and comfortable design with wooden flooring. Downstairs there is a smart tv and dvd, a radio with iPod dock and Super fast Broadband. The kitchen is fully fitted and appliances include - a Samsung washer dryer (clothes line outside), an induction hob, microwave oven, a coffee machine and a fridge with small freezer compartment, a separate small freezer is available for use on request. Heating is underfloor thermostatically controlled with 2 electric radiator in the living room and 1 upstairs. Upstairs is a comfy king bed and free view tv. There is a large powerful walk in shower in the en suite and toiletries are provided for our guests. The bathroom floor is heated and there is a heated towel rail. The views from upstairs are lovely. Outside is private parking and a patio area with a pergola over for your sole use. It gets the sun in the afternoons and is a great place to sit out, relax and enjoy the panoramic views. At night with a clear sky, the stars are amazing, you will be able to observe the milky way and we have been fortunate to see the Northern Lights twice from our hilltop position since living here. There is a Dark Skies Park at Kielder Forest, allowing people to observe the stars at the observatory unobstructed by light pollution(1 hour 15 minutes away) Booking is essential. We are very central for exploring the county. Recent guests have visited Holy Island, Bambrough castle and Seahouses, Alnwick Garden , Cragside (National Trust) in Rothbury, Wallington (National Trust) about 25 minutes from here. Enjoy a boat trip from Seahouses to see the Puffins in April/May and June, you may see seals and porpoises too. There are a variety of very good restaurants within an easy drive, including Lollo Rosso in Morpeth, an Italian which is our favourite (booking essential). The area is fantastic for keen cyclists, as it is challenging and very varied. There are routes from our doorstep. Bikes are available to hire locally. We also have secure storage for your own bikes. The nearest beach - Druridge Bay is 30 minutes by car. If you enjoy walking, there are many routes from your door including a lovely walk along the railway to Rothbury where you can stop for coffee and home made cakes before walking home again. The traditional music scene is very strong locally. Rothbury Roots at The Queens Head Pub in Rothbury host live music as do the other pubs in the village. We are 45 minutes from Newcastle with it's famous bars, pubs, clubs and entertainment venues. Parking is private and secure. Please be aware that you will need to drive to our local shops and pub as they are not within walking distance. Why not get a Tesco delivery when you arrive.
The Lee is a hamlet with around 30 houses. We are in a very rural position but only 10 minutes from both Rothbury and longframlington. Traffic is light on our minor road so you can walk or cycle safely. There are plenty of routes to test you as it’s quite hilly!
  • This place was everything that the pictures promise. A stylish, cosy space with fabulous facilities and lovely welcoming touches (we really enjoyed the biscuits and chocolates left for us on arrival!).

    Sarah2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Sue was a great host and Lee View is a great place. She and her husband were very welcoming and helpfully accommodated a large stand-up paddle board during our stay. The place is spotless, has everything you could need - very high quality place. Would highly recommend. 😊

  • Lee View Cottage is an absolute wonderful find for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday. It is tucked away in a small hamlet. The hosts are so welcoming and are so willing to help. The cottage is immaculate and the attention to detail by Sue and Jamie is outstanding. Will definitely be back.

  • This was a really great holiday cottage as a base to explore Northumberland. We felt truly comfortable and looked forward to coming back to the cottage each evening. The accommodation was modern, clean and cosy with thoughtful touches making us feel very much at home. Thoroughly recommended.

  • A really lovely modern property. The photos don’t do it justice. Absolutely sparkling clean too!

    Simon2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • A fabulous cottage, such detail has been taken when building this beautiful space. It’s perfectly located to Alnwick, Rothbury, Cragside, the list is endless, there’s so much to do from here. We let ourselves in via the lock box but Sue came to see us the evening we arrived and the evening before we left which was lovely. The kitchen is a full kitchen which is great as there’s an oven and hob, also a dishwasher, lots of other lovely little touches too. We had a wonderful relaxing time and can’t wait to come back. Thank you Sue for allowing us to share your cottage.

    Sally2019-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place... beautifully finished space in a lovely peaceful setting. Stylish furnishings with lots of helpful bits and bobs to make our stay comfortable and convenient. The hosts went the extra mile to make sure we arrived safely and settled in, but left us to it for the most part, which was great. A great location for exploring the area by bike.

  • Can’t say thanks enough for our lovely stay! The pods were out of this world the photos on Airbnb don’t do them justice they are huge in person and every little detail is so perfect! Neil looked after us so much and kept in communication with us throughout our stay to ensure we had the best experience! Also it was my 21st celebrations and they went out of their way to decorate the inside for us coming which was so lovely! We are coming back in the summer with more friends for sure! ❤️ Thanks very much!

    Casey2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and my partner stayed at this pod for our anniversary. Everything from a picturesque views of the country to the cozy and homely touches and decor inside and of course the hot tub was honestly just amazing. Neil couldn’t of been more helpful in communicating quickly and giving us information of what we need to know on arrival to then letting us enjoy our stay but only being a call or message away if needed. We will definitely be coming back in the future!

    Shannon2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing views, pods are quirky, comfortable and warm. Hot Tub heats up quick. Just a great trip in an idyllic setting, will definitely return in the not too distant future.

  • Quarry Barn is a lovely getaway in the perfect location! Michael & June were very responsive to messages and Michael greeted us upon arrival with some great tips and dog friendly recommendations for the local area! The Derwent Manor Hotel was within walking distance (great for a few drinks) and Derwent Reservoir was just 10 mins in the car. The barn was spotlessly clean and decorated throughout to a high standard. We hope to stay again in future!

    Azrael2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic stay, wish we book for an extra night. Michael gave us loads of tips on places to visit and go for a drink, would definitely return for another visit.

A cleverly converted 'hemmel' cottage providing luxurious yet cosy one level accommodation within tranquil gardens. St Cuthbert is the ideal place for a romantic, rural break for couples who enjoy the peace & quiet of the countryside. The cottage has been tastefully designed, offering light & airy accommodation with easily accessible, disabled friendly features making it ideal for less mobile guests. St Cuthbert is perfectly placed with Craster, Bamburgh, Alnwick Castle & Garden all nearby.
At a glance, will St Cuthbert work for you ? -The ground floor space compromises studio style accommodation which is all on one level with a living & sleeping area, kitchen & shower/wet room with walk-in shower. -The sleeping area is located centrally within the studio cottage. -The enclosed private courtyard includes a mobility scooter charging point. -Broadband wifi throughout the property. -Off road parking. -No pets allowed. -Northumberland was voted the best UK holiday county in the 2018 British Travel Awards. -Upon arrival at St Cuthbert, our guests receive a welcome pack as well as complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits & milk to get their stay underway. Bed linen, towels & tea towels are also provided. -Private setting with adjacent cottages also available through Airbnb to rent.
-St Cuthbert at The Old Mill is located in the small hamlet of Littlemill, four miles north east of Alnwick. -Craster on the beautiful heritage coastal route is only 2.5 miles away. The picturesque fishing village is world famous for it's smoked kippers & the glorious walk from it's harbour to Dunstanburgh Castle. St Cuthbert & The Old Mill-A potted history. -The adjacent properties of The Old Mill & St Bede offer further accommodation options & can be booked jointly or separately through Airbnb. -Please 'like' of page on the 'Book of Face' to be kept up to date with all things with regard to St Cuthbert & Northumberland.
  • This cottage is a perfect mix of quaint and stylish. It's location was excellent and allowed us to explore the coasts and Castles that this part of Northumberland has to offer. The special touches were greatly appreciated and the hosts were friendly and accommodating throughout. Will definitely be recommending to family and friends.

  • John and Caroline’s place is beautiful and ideal for anyone who likes a remote setting in the countryside. The accommodation is compact but luxurious, containing everything one needs for a few days, including a washer/dryer. It’s a very peaceful location yet we were easily able to get to Lindisfarne and Bamburgh castle. Highly recommended.

  • Lovey place, would definitely recommend. Very clean, airy and light. Very good use of space in beautiful surroundings. If you don’t have a car, book taxi’s in advance. It’s a challenge to book one at short notice, and some may not know the location of the place. All sorted in the end but a heads up to anyone staying here. John was very communicative and had added some very thoughtful touches.

    Matthew2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

  • We had a lovely, quiet new year’s stay in a Plum Tree cottage. The cottage itself is very cosy, perfect for a romantic couple of days away. The fairy lights made it feel festive, and the view from the bedroom was spectacular! We slept with the door open as we were warm, and it was amazing to be able to look out and see the stars! The wine and chocolates upon arrival were hugely appreciated too! Our request for towels was quickly met by Archie, and we knew where the hosts were should we have needed anything else. Thanks for a lovely trip!

    Emma2019-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Plum Tree Cottage is set in an absolutely beautiful location, and the cottage itself is lovely and homely. I told Maggie that I was to propose on our stay, so when we arrived she had the fire roaring, 2 bunches of flowers and a bottle of cava on ice for us, which i did not expect at all. We spent the days visiting Smailholm Tower, floors castle and Scott’s View, and the evenings playing board games next to the fire. Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect cottage and location. Lots to do in the local area, and fantastic hospitality. Will be sure to visit again.

    Philip2018-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really lovely stay at Plum Tree cottage. Maggie and Archie were great hosts - communication was really good in the lead up to our stay, Archie came to check all was ok when we arrived, and we knew we could contact them if we needed anything during our stay. The cottage is cosy and comfortable, really nicely done. It had everything we needed, and the views from the living room and bedroom are so lovely. We enjoyed relaxing in the cottage and exploring the local area. We would definitely return!

Peacefully set on a private, no-through road, this cosy cottage has good sized bedrooms, a modern kitchen and a bright living/dining room which opens onto a sunny patio. The property is perfectly placed for exploring the nearby towns of Melrose, Jedburgh and Kelso. Adjoining, we have converted an old farm building into a stunning sauna, outdoor spa bath and bbq area, peaceful and relaxing by day, magically lit up by night. With ponies and bicycles available, there is something for everyone!
Try cycling on wonderfully quiet side roads or glorious walks on the Eildon Hills. The pretty village of Ancrum, 3 miles, has a shop and characterful pub serving local beer, whilst Harestanes Visitor Centre and Monteviot House are just nearby. We can guide you on walks, rides or cycles around our farm. If you like to swim we would love to show you the best spots for wild swimming! We have horse stables and a riding school which can be used by the guests by arrangement. Riding lessons are available from a 4* eventer and we have fantastic rides around our farm.
  • Brilliant place to stay, very homely. Wish we could’ve stayed longer to explore the surrounding area, we will be back in the summer

  • Amazing service! The personal touches such as, fresh eggs from the farm, homemade sausage and jam made the experience even more special! It was extremely clean. Plus John was extremely helpful with information and very friendly! The hot tub and the sauna are even better than all the pictures portray! A perfect weekend away!

    Heather2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Had a fantastic time at the cottage! It has such a beautiful location with Hawick only being a 20 min drive away!! The sauna was incredible and the place has everything you could have wanted!!

  • Perfect countryside setting and very attentive hosts! Loved our stay there.

    Nikki2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time away at John and Dots. Lovely home touches and everything you could need for a lovely rural retreat. The spa bath was wonderful at night time under the stars and the homemade sausages were to die for! Even if the weather is bad (hello storm Dennis) there's plenty of board games to play in front of the fire and relax.

    Imogen2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • John's cottage was lovely - so many nice touches, such as flowers everywhere, home-made sausages, biscuits, and a welcome note from John and Dot. The cottage was much bigger than I thought it would be, and well-kept. The log fire was a definite bonus too, it kept the living room so toasty and warm. Storm Ciara meant that we only really used the outdoor tub and sauna on the first night - serves us right for booking a weekend in February! The location was nice and remote, making this property excellent for anyone wanting a peaceful break and privacy. It's well-located for anyone wanting to explore Jedburgh, Kelso or Melrose. We booked an alpaca trek at Beirhope Alpacas, which was about half an hour away, and I'd highly recommend it. The cottage has all mod-cons, including wifi and a TV with a firestick, the kitchen has all the equipment and utensils you'll need. Thanks again John - it was a shame I didn't get a chance to explore more of the area by foot, hopefully next time the weather will be a bit kinder.

    Phil2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Honeymoon Cottage is perfect for a peaceful getaway in the countryside. Extra little touches by John and Dot make it feel very homely. The cottage is clean and the amenities are everything we could have wished for. John and Dot were great hosts and very quick to respond to any queries we had. Would highly recommend the place for a trip away to unwind!

    Eleanor2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage. Lovely get away in the countryside! Shame about the weather, but we made the most of it! Outside bath was lovely however disappointed we missed out on the sauna as it was being replaced as we left! Will definitely come again in summer! Thanks again, Callum & Kirsty
