Places to stay in Alnwick
This large, comfortable room has stunning views over rolling fields. Close to the coast and a 5 minute drive to Alnwick, a 5 minute walk from Alnmouth train station, it's ideal for exploring Northumberland. Ideal for couples or families, the room has a king size bed, sofa bed & if required, a cot. A continental breakfast is also provided in the room. The en-suite bathroom has a luxurious roll-top bath & large shower. Well behaved dogs are welcome.
You will have use of a large bedroom at the top of our detached family home. The room has a dining table, kettle, and fridge, with tea, filter coffee, sugar, milk, continental breakfast and fruit supplied. The house makes a great base for exploring the stunning coastline, castles and countryside of the local area, and the large comfortable room with a HD TV and Chromecast will give you space to relax during your stay. Well behaved dogs are welcome. The local area has stunning wide open beaches, and is often referred to as 'Doggie Heaven'. We have a large entrance hallway, you are welcome to leave any luggage here if you need to check in early, or if you need later. We often have this arrangements with visitors who take the train.
Bilton is a picturesque village approximately 1.5 miles from Alnmouth. The area has a range of great walks both inland and to the coast. Nearby Alnmouth is a beautiful village with a range of independently owned cafes, pubs and restaurants. The large, quiet beaches are ideal for families and are very dog friendly.
  • Very nice stay, lots of room, very clean and cosy with lovely views. Would highly recommend. Great location for exploring Northumberland too. Excellent value.

  • Have had a lovely 2 nights in Damian and Steph's "suite" of rooms - it is so much more than a place to spend the night! I greatly appreciated the very thoughtful touches provided in the rooms (wonderful complimentary breakfast and lots of useful toiletries!) and plenty of room to stretch out. Although in the same house, total privacy and peace is ensured, but Steph and Damian are on hand should you need anything. A very peaceful location with great access to the Northumberland coast and beautiful Alnwick. I would highly recommend this accommodation! PS...thank you for letting my dog, Roscoe, come with me!

  • Lovely room and facilities - made to feel very welcome. Ideally located for Almouth and Alnwick.

  • It was so pleasant to stay at this lovely house. The location is great and very easy to find! The room is very clean and spacious, it’s exactly the same as the picture! The heating system was very powerful, the room was definitely warm enough for a particularly cold and windy night. Damian and his wife are very friendly!! Thanks to their recommendation for the restaurant, we had a great dinner as well!! Thanks for a great stay!

  • Great accomodation, particularly the big bath. Comfy bed and great view.

    Rebecca2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Damian was very good in communication , very fast to answer our questions. The room was exactly as advertised: spacious , modern. The breakfast was basic but sufficient for us. Overall good value for money

A luxury one-bedroom holiday apartment, situated one minute's walk from both Alnwick town centre and the Alnwick Garden; recently refurbished to an exemplary standard with a mix of rustic charm and all mod cons. This apartment will suit a couple, and provision can be made for an infant; unfortunately we cannot accommodate pets.
This early nineteenth century property was once a Victorian school house, but has been a residence for over a hundred years. In 2015 the property was purchased by its current owner, and no expense has been spared on renovating this beautiful and elegant apartment. The large arched windows have been double-glazed with heritage glass, and the gas-fired central heating system is brand new. Even so, there is a beautiful log-burning stove in the living room fireplace - with fuel provided - so the apartment is truly a cosy space even with its modern, light and airy open-plan aesthetic. Other features include a wet-room with both rainfall shower and handheld showerheads ( the plumbing has also been completely refitted in 2017) as well as underfloor heating; a washing machine and sensor dryer; a fully modern kitchen with a brand new dual fuel cooker, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, microwave and dishwasher; a 32” television with Freeview and DVD player; free wifi access; iron and ironing board; inside storage for up to two bicycles; and an outdoor area shared with a second holiday apartment. There is a large breakfast bar (that will also function as a perfect workspace if required), along with a bespoke drop-leaf oak table that is left open in the living room area for evening dining, but can fold away if extra space is preferred. Bedding, towels, a hairdryer, soaps, complimentary shower gel, shampoo and conditioner are all provided. Coffee, tea, sugar and milk will be present upon arrival.
Hotspur Hill House is situated on a quiet side street of Alnwick, a picturesque medieval market town and the county town of Northumberland. The centre of town is only a two minute walk away, as is the famous Alnwick Garden (situated within the grounds of Alnwick Castle). The Tanners Arms - an award-winning real ale pub and staple of The Good Beer Guide - can be found at the bottom of the street. The coast and nearest beach is at Alnmouth, two miles to the East. Alnwick itself is in the heart of Northumberland: a great base from which to explore our fair county, and easily accessible as it is directly adjacent to the A1.
  • Excellent accommodation that contained everything we needed to make our stay comfortable & a lovely basket of treats as a welcome. The apartment is well located for Alnwick & its local attractions & is an excellent base for sightseeing. Would highly recommend

  • The perfect location to explore Alnwick and Northumberland. The apartment is even better than the pictures. It’s spacious, spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished, has a super comfy bed and a very well equipped kitchen so we were able to self-cater. We were sad to leave and definitely hoping to return :)

    Emma2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Ben’s place for 5 nights, and it was the perfect base for a few days in Northumberland. All clean, spacious, and well equipped, and nice and warm; we didn’t need to use the fire, even in a stormy, icy February! The basket of goodies, including drinks voucher for the excellent Tanners Arms next door, were much appreciated. Ideal, all round!

    Laurie2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second visit to Ben’s apartment - this time for a full week. The apartment is fabulous for a couple with lots of extra features you wouldn’t normally expect. Ben is a great host and provided some really nice extra touches. We enjoyed our second visit equally as much as our first and we will definitely be back. Thanks again Ben. Andrea and Tony

  • Stayed at Ben’s Hotspur House this week (27-31 Jan 20) and had an amazing stay. This Air BnB is very stylishly furnished, makes great use of the space has a very generous bedroom and lovely shower room, living room and kitchen. Ben has everything covered and responded straight away to our questions. Great location for walking and cycling and will definitely recommend to others, really great value for money. Thanks for a great week.

  • Beautiful clean, comfortable and perfectly located accommodation. We had everything we needed. The welcome pack was a lovely touch too. We loved the area and had great food in the local restaurants.

Beautifully renovated Victorian coach house with dual aspect views on to Northumberland Street from the front and stunning tidal riverside views from the rear. The Coach House sits alongside a prominent Georgian house, which it shares the name - Seafield. The property is located in the very heart of Alnmouth, with the beach, the pubs, the restaurants and the ambience all within touching distance. Access to the Coach House is entirely separate from the main house, via an inviting staircase.
The Coach House has its own private access and is very much a self-contained apartment. This holiday apartment has been completely refurbished this year, to a very high standard. The Coach House was originally built in the mid 1800's when the entire property was a famous Coaching Inn called The Northumberland Arms. Seafield is a very special property and offers unique views of the tidal riverside.
If you have ever visited Alnmouth, then I need not say anything. If you have never visited Alnmouth, then you really have been missing something special. With the mainline East Coast railway serving Alnmouth, London Kings Cross is little more than 3 hours away and the same train that leaves Kings Cross is the same train that arrives in Alnmouth.
  • Neil's place is cosy, warm, sparkling clean and perfectly located. Just a few minutes walk to the beautiful beach with wonderful walks along the Northumberland coast. The Red Lion pub next door has phenomenal food, and scotts coffee shop has excellent coffee and cake (the Bakewell tart in particular!) Easy (if infrequent!) buses take you to beautiful Alnwick and the surrounding villages. Would highly recommend! Neil was super friendly and helpful, and responded very quickly to any messages.

    Rose2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, modern and cosy with peaceful rural views. Loved being able to walk to the beach and Scott's deli a few doors down was great for breakfast and coffee. Would love to return!

  • Spotlessly clean, snug and in a fantastic location. Everything you could ask for in the house. Immaculately decorated throughout. We didn’t meet Neil but all communication was quick and efficient.

    Emma2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Newly converted coach house, very well done, warm, comfortable and only sorry we didn't have more time to expore Alnmouth as it looked really nice. Check in was very easy and good communication. Many thanks.

    Louise2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 3 fantastic nights at Seafield Coach House over New Year. The accommodation was immaculately clean and was really well thought out in making use of all available space. The Coach House is smartly designed with a good mixture of modern appliances and original structure features. The view onto the estuary was stunning as is the night sky throught the velux in the snug. Location wise, it is absolutely central in Alnmouth with plenty of amenities on your doorstep. Communication with Neil was excellent and speedy. On Neil's advice, we booked dinner at Beaches on NYE and had a fantastic meal and were made to feel especially welcome by Donald and Sue, a must try in Alnmouth. We can't wait to go back!

    Andrew2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Neil’s place was fab, such a great location on the high street and dreamy flat. Would definitely recommend!

    Juliet2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Seafield Coach House for a last minute Christmas break. It was ideal for two. The accommodation was well presented and spotlessly clean. Everything required for the stay was provided. The host Neil answered queries quickly and helpfully. The view from the kitchen/dining area is fabulous - one can sit at the small table and observe the changing tides and skies over the Aln estuary for hours...

    Hugh2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely immaculately clean apartment in the centre of Alnmouth. Perfect size for a couple or single person. Stunning views. Comfy bed. Neil was a great host- friendly, good communication and flexible with check out time (much appreciated!). Would recommend.

  • Really comfortable, everything you need in a home away from home. Brilliant position in centre of town. The heater in the sitting room made it so cosy and the bed was super comfortable. Lovely bath also, Thanks Helen

  • Perfect central Alnwick location. Easy to find. Great to have parking space too. Inside super cosy lounge with electric log burner, very well equipped kitchen, gorgeous bathroom and very comfy bed too. All the boxes ticked. Location great for eating out (although we just used the kitchen) and all the tourist attractions of Alnwick. We enjoyed an afternoon in Barter Books :) Just to be aware, as it’s a ground floor flat, then you will hear the comings and goings of the upstairs neighbours. We’re super quiet people so I think noticed this more than your average person. Overall a fab Airbnb home, with added bonuses of milk & wine too :)

  • Lovely cottage. We stayed here to go and see the castle and its gardens, which are in perfect reach of the cottage. The cottage comes with all of the nessacery amenities required for a peaceful and relaxed weekend away. The kitchen was well equipped with all mod cons, and major supermarkets are within easy reach should you require anything. Peter was quick to respond with any questions we had, and was even so kind enough to bring round some wine to save us heading out. We loved our stay in the little cottage.

    Jane2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A super cottage well placed for exploring the delights on Northumberland.

  • Loan End Cottage is a terrific place to stay, the cottage has everything you need and more and Peter is a great host. From the beds, to the log fire and the amenities it is the perfect base to explore Northumberland or to rest up for a few days. The location is 5 minutes from Alnwick centre which is a vibrant village with plenty to do. A special mention has to go to Peter who offered us a lift after we could have ended up stranded in the snow, such a thoughtful host. Thanks.

  • The Potions Room is a lovely flat right in the centre of Alnwick. It is a lovely space in which to relax. Investigating all the potions and lotions is really interesting with great attention to detail. We will definitely book again.

Arguably one of the best self-catering holiday properties in Alnwick, Castle Retreat provides the very best in luxury accommodation and certainly has a wow factor! Situated on the top (second) floor of a Grade II listed townhouse, it is away from the hustle and bustle of the town, yet within easy reach of all Alnwick's amenities. This romantic retreat is perfect for two and ideally placed for exploring the town, the castle and, indeed, the whole of Northumberland.
This one-bedroom luxury apartment, with a spacious lounge / diner and bedroom, is completely and sympathetically refurbished to the highest standards. Flooded with natural light and extremely comfortable, the apartment combines modern contemporary living with traditional period features. Warmed with full gas central heating throughout, there is also a tasteful electric wood-burning-effect stove in the lounge for ambience. Castle Retreat has been awarded 4 Stars by Visit England and a prestigious Gold award for excellence in self-catering. A travel cot and high chair are available upon request for infants. By prior arrangement we can accommodate one small dog (see House Rules). We offer full-week stays, 3-night weekend breaks starting on Friday, and 4-night midweek breaks starting on Monday. In low season (November-March excluding school holidays) we will be happy to offer 2-night weekend or 3-night midweek breaks. For more details, seasonal and short break prices, up-to-date availability and special offers search for 'leaholmecottages'. Castle Retreat can be booked in conjunction with Barbican View which is a separate apartment on the ground floor of the same building, also sleeping two people (plus travel cot if requested).
As well as having its own attractions - Alnwick Castle ('Hogwarts') and Gardens and Barter Books being the most famous - Alnwick is a perfect central hub for exploring Northumberland. Bamburgh Castle, Cragside House and Gardens, Dunstanburgh Castle, Hadrian’s Wall, Northumberland Heritage Coast and Northumberland National Park are all easily accessible by car. The nearby Northumberland Coast AONB has some of the most unspoilt beaches in the country.
  • We stayed for a weekend doing the Northumberland Half Marathon and then some castle trips. We booked very last minute but the communication, directions, instructions and check in where all perfect. The accommodation is very nicely presented and a great hospitality tray really set off the weekend. And it is right next to the castle. Would highly recommended and would stay again

  • An immaculately presented apartment within almost touching distance of Alnwick Castle , centrally located but a nice quiet spot too. Everything was lovely with quality furnishings and equipment throughout . The welcome tray was a real wow factor and a great start to our Northumbria stay. We felt extremely comfortable from the moment we arrived . This was a great find.

    Julia2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful house we could not fault it.. from the moment we stepped inside we felt at home so cosy and inviting and even the welcome gifts were amazing. The location is perfect to all the local attractions.. we will definitely be returning

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The apartment is absolutely fab - very, very clean, extremely comfortable and really just feels like a home from home. The bed is extremely comfortable and the welcome pack was a lovely, unexpected touch. The apartment is within walking distance of everything in Alnwick and the parking permit was extremely handy. Thanks so much for a great stay. We loved it.

Our first floor apartment has been recently refurbished. It is a deceptively large property in the centre of town above a sports shop, with large double glazed windows over looking the town, ideal for people watching! Both bedrooms are at the rear of the property, both with double glazed windows. The Apartment benefits from being within easy walking distance to all of the towns attractions including Alnwick Castle, The Alnwick Garden and Barter Books to name just a few.
The apartment is in the centre of town with only a 10 minute walk to Alnwick Castle and The Alnwick Garden. Restaurants and bars are a stones throw away. There is an awarding butchers next door selling fresh meats, ready made meals, pies and sandwiches and a bakers to the other side selling delicious cakes, meals and bread. If an Indian meal is your thing there’s one directly over the road.A drive out to the coast will take 10 minutes as will a trip out over the moors and into the Cheviot hills. It’s the perfect place to stay!
  • Probably the best Airbnb I’ve ever stayed in! Absolutely sparkling clean, lovely fluffy towels and linen, comfortable beds and thoughtful finishing touches...the list goes on. The kitchen was particularly well kitted-out, making it really easy to settle in quickly and enjoy evenings cooking at home. We weren’t there in high season but parking wasn’t a problem at all - free 24hr car park 2 mins’ walk away. Love that a dog is allowed - we will be back with our pooch!

The house offers: two bedrooms, both with original fireplaces and period features; a family bathroom and a separate toilet; a comfortable sitting room with flat screen TV and wood burning stove; and a large kitchen diner with range cooker and American-style fridge freezer. To the rear of the house there is a small yard with outdoor dining furniture. The large entrance hall with the original stone-flagged floor is the ideal space to store bikes, wellies or buckets and spades.
This Georgian home boasts many original features and is located with the Alnwick Town Centre Conservation Area. The property is within 300m of the town centre and its shops, restaurants and transport links; making it the ideal base from which to explore the charming market town of Alnwick. N.B. The fireplaces in the bedrooms are feature only but there is a wood burning stove in the sitting room. Due to the original mahogany staircase we are unable to offer stairgates but we do have a travel cot and highchair if required. Single beds in the second bedroom are zip-link and can be made up as a super kingsize bed also.
The charming market town of Alnwick has many attractions, making it a popular destination for visitors. Alnwick Castle, ancestral home to the Duke of Northumberland is within easy walking distance and is a great day out for history and art enthusiasts. It also has excellent activities for children of all ages. Alnwick Garden is also within walking distance and is a brilliant day out for families- take spare clothes for children, the water features seem to be irresistible in our experience! Barter Books is also virtually on the doorstep; the UK's second largest second hand book shop, situated within Alnwick's beautiful old railway buildings. It is the perfect spot to while away an afternoon, enjoying a cosy lunch by a roaring fire in one of the restored waiting rooms or losing yourself in a book with a coffee. Beyond Alnwick, the wild and stunning Northumbrian coast attracts many visitors, as do our huge numbers of castles, reflecting our turbulent past as a border county. There is fantastic walking in the Cheviot Hills within 30 min and several excellent National Trust properties within 30 min also. Alnwick is also a perfect base for golfers and cyclists with many superb and beautiful courses close by.
  • An excellent location with lots of Georgian charm. I would definitely recommend it.

  • We had the best time at Jenny’s beautiful home and would love to return. The house is very big with a gorgeous kitchen and cosy living room and really comfy beds upstairs. Lots of hot water, good central heating and fab wood burner - it’s was freezing when we visited Alnwick but the house was very warm. It’s in a perfect location tucked away behind the high street and everything is on the doorstep. One of our favourite Air B&B experiences!

    Jo2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location, great facilities, we had a great time as a family.

    Andrew2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely couple of days in Alnwick thanks to Jenny’s hospitality. Wonderful clean period property, great location. The added extras were a nice surprise - we will be back.

    Simon2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • This really is a ‘home from home’ with prosecco and fresh flowers, beach towels, sofa blankets and a prepared fireplace - just a few of the many thoughtful touches. Above all though, was Jenny’s willingness to provide suggestions and respond quickly to changes to our travel plans. All added up to a relaxing albeit too brief a stay.

    Susan2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • A clean, spacious apartment in the heart of Alnwick. Our host was very helpful and thoughtful, quick to respond to any questions and she made our stay a memorable experience. The welcome drink and biscuits was a lovely touch.

The accommodation is a basic cabin set in our private back garden, three minutes walk from Alnmouth railway station on the East coast mainline. It's a twenty minute walk or 5 minute drive to our beautiful local beach. You would sleep in the cabin and use the main house for bathroom/toilet and the kitchen for making drinks and snacks. The house is occupied by three of us- we have a lot of knowledge of the local area and we are active in the outdoors and indoors! (Running and circus mainly).
  • What an incredibly lovely, warm snd welcoming couple Andy and Lynn are! Highly recommended, especially if you're a runner and want to have a good running chat :). Couldn't have wished for a better place to stay overnight. Cabin is super cosy, house is lovely and the shower is possibly the best I've had in my life - but that may be trail legs talking ;). Just amazing!

    Manouk2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Andy and Lynn’s family are just adorable, inspiring and full of positive energy! The shed itself is really clean, cosy and cute. It is actually bigger than I thought it’d be and I love every second spent in there. The location is great, only 5 mins walk from Alnmouth & 20 mins walk to the beach! Northumberland coast is just absolutely wonderful, the view from the cost is heavenly and really inspired me in loads of ways. I’m definitely coming back soon xxx

    Tiffany2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The location of the house was very convenient to connect with buses and trains. The cabin was small but warm and confortable. The decortion inside made me a feeling of being in cozy holidays. Andy and Lynn were also very friendly and kind. I very enjoyed our inspiring conversations. Hope to revisit in the future.

  • This place is just perfect in so many ways! Great location, gorgeous interiors, comfy bed, and lots of lovely little touches like tea/coffee etc. There is an informative folder that provides details about the local area, but it was also fascinating to see the pictures of the property renovation and read the backstory. We are already talking about returning to Alnwick just so we can stay here again! Would highly recommend!

    Sophie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A very comfortable and attractive place to stay. Katie was very generous in basic provisions left in the kitchen, so you can enjoy a cup of tea/coffe on arrival and wash up after which was welcome after a long journey. Nicely designed flat with quality features would recommend a stay without hesitation.

    Philip2020-02-27T00:00:00Z

  • My husband and I spent two nights at John’s Place while visiting family nearby, and we loved our stay. Beautifully and tastefully decorated, with a lot of care and attention obviously gone into the renovation. All the amenities we needed, plus a few extras like coffee machine pods and biscuits. Great location with supermarket/convenience stores nearby, and easy walking distance into town centre. We wish we were staying longer so we could have a cosy night in with the log burner!

    Janie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a perfect base for access to Alnwick town centre, the castle and gardens, and to easily get away from the town to visit the fantastic coast or countryside. John's Place is very cosy and comfortable, stylishly decorated with every detail catered for. I enjoyed a short stay to visit relatives, and hope to return again soon.

Very little to fault at all but somewhere to hang your coats at the front door is the best I could come up with. Definitely a great place to stay if you want to be based in Alnwick.

This bright and airy penthouse in the former Alnwick Brewery and Maltings is a great place to call home whilst exploring Alnwick and the surrounding countryside. The flat is located a stone's throw away from Alnwick Castle and Hulne Park. The flat has all the equipment you need to self-cater and there's a good, large supermarket opposite the flat. Or if you want to eat out, Alnwick's many restaurants, cafés and pubs are all within a few minute's walk.
This penthouse is spacious and stylish. It has large windows allowing light in throughout the day. The balcony is south-west facing and lovely and warm from springtime...
Alnwick is one of Northumberland’s most historic towns. This old market town is home to Alnwick Castle, home of the Percy family (immortalised in Shakespeare's history plays) and Dukes of Northumberland since 1309. The castle has been featured in a number of films and TV programmes including: Elizabeth, The Hollow Crown; Transformers: The Last Knight; Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone; Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets; Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Downton Abbey. The beautiful Northumbrian coast is less than 15 mins' drive away and within 30 mins' cycle (based on going to Alnmouth first) - Including Craster, Seahouses and Bamburgh. If you want to go to the Farne Islands to see its exciting seabird colony, including the charming puffins you can do so from Seahouses. Less than 30 mins' drive or under 60 mins' on the local bus. You can purchase a one-day, three-day or a weekly bus pass and enjoy the coastal route. The Holy Island of Lindisfarne is 40 min's drive or a 2-hour cycle away.
  • A very cool, relaxing space. Great location, lots of local knowledge and guides in addition to a well equipped, spacious apartment. A penthouse apartment like this in such an old, prosperous town is extremely unique and not one to miss out on.

  • We had a great stay... Lovely and clean house with really comfy beds. Brilliant location for exploring the coast. We'd love to stay again!!

  • Angels Den is a fabulous place to stay if you want all your home comforts and an ideal location to explore Alnwick and the surrounding areas. The house is equipped with everything you might need or want. The welcome pack was a perfect touch with things included for our children and our dog! We would highly recommend a stay at Angels Den.

    Pam2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Angels den with our 3 boys 7,8 and 8 years old. Hellen’s house is sparkling clean, really well equipped and in a great location on a quiet cul-de-sac minutes from the A1, we used it as a base for visiting Lindisfarne which is only a half an hour drive and other attractions nearby. The house has great parking and is walking distance to the beautiful historic town of Alnwick, which made for a great (child free) run in the morning. Hellen added thoughtful touches which made us feel really welcome, a great welcome manual really informative and was quick to respond to messages, including to take the boys to go to Beamish on the way up which was fantastic, thanks! We will definitely be back when we visit this beautiful part of the UK again.

    Helen2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Hellen's place was honestly one of the most comfortable and well equipped places we have ever stayed. There were so many thoughtful touches. It really did feel like home- thank you! The house is very well located within walking distance of Alnwick and its many attractions incl.uding Alnwick Castle and Garden and Barter Books. M and S Food and Turnbull's deli are just down the hill. The A1 is minutes away for easy driving to the beautiful Northumberland coast.

  • It is an amazing location with everything you could possible need in a tastefully presented and very clean apartment. I loved it!

    Rachel2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Booked the trip as a pre-Christmas treat and was so pleased with the standard of the accommodation. Perfect location, within short walk to town, but so quiet and private it felt like a real retreat. Great communication throughout with host. Private secure parking a fabulous feature. The apartment is super clean and comfortable, with every amenity included, it felt like a home from home. Lovely welcome touch of wine and chocs which we really appreciated as we had a broken down on motorway on way up! We honestly didn’t want to leave and will certainly book again if we visit northumberland. The photos do not do the apartment justice, we are so happy with our stay.

  • We had a lovely few days at Ali’s apartment in November. It was sparkling clean, comfy and warm (it was freezing outside!) Its also very spacious and has a well equipped kitchen. I couldn’t think of anything to improve.

    Diana2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was great - one of the best equipped Airbnbs we have stated in, spotlessly clean, and a brilliant location for pottering around Alnwick and exploring beautiful Northumberland. We would love to return when in better health!

  • Great location, lovely apartment. Kelly went above and beyond to ensure we had a successful weekend.

    Justine2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Kelly's adorable flat was amazing. We couldn't believe how fantastic the location was for exploring Alnwick. It truly is in the centre of town but slightly pushed back from the street so no noise at all. Kelly helped organise our stay last minute and was a superb host. She gave us all the information we needed to check in and where to park which was useful after a long drive. We really enjoyed having a kitchen so we could cook our meals and also a DVD player so we could sit and relax in the evening. I wouldn't hesitate to book again, in fact, we're planning our next visit!

  • A lovely apartment in a fantastic location. The apartment has everything you need, very cosy and comfortable and quiet. Being in the heart of town allows easy access to pubs and eatery’s — of which there were more than can be reasonably sampled in a week. The owner is very quick to respond and friendly. Would definitely recommend (and our parents are already planning to book). We would go back in a heartbeat.

  • Rachel's home is so lovely and welcoming, it is very stylish and homely. The Stable is surrounded by gorgeous countryside and is only a short drive from the town. Rachel provided a booklet of helpful information including places to visit and places to eat which was very helpful!

    Tasha2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • It was a home away from home. If we could ever have a country home, this will be it. It had all the homely amenities and had a children corner with books, toys, puzzles. It also had dvds and a Nintendo for a rainy day. The cottage is located by the river and a bridge. It was nice to take walks by the river and look for ducks. Highly recommended for a countryside getaway!

  • Do not hesitate - if you are looking to spend some time in Alnwick to enjoy the walking paths and nature, this is the place to be. Not only can you access trails beloved by the locals just a few steps away, you also can hear the brook and the birds throughout the day. The self-catering is minutes away from the center of town with excellent restaurants, pubs and shops. The “Stable” is immaculately clean, thoughtfully appointed, and the kitchen has everything you need for eating in. Rachel met us upon arrival and took the time to go over some details related to the heating system. There are two other units on the property but you quickly forget about their presence since you can’t see them or hear fellow guests. Spending time at the Stable is absolutely perfect - I have no doubt we will be back.

    Josiane2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully presented and with many thoughtful touches, the Stables was really lovely. Alnwick is within walking distance, but the surrounding fields and are full of life.

    Stuart2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This really is the perfect base for exploring a wonderful part of the world. The Stable has everything you need - from a well stocked kitchen, to plenty of space for lounging and a vert comfortable bed. Added to this is the great location - just minutes from Alnwick and Alnmouth - and a short drive or bus journey away from other brilliant parts of Northumberland. Really recommend a stay here - and I am sure we'll be coming back.

Situated near the centre of Alnwick town, this comfortable, cosy apartment is part of an award winning development of a Grade 2 listed building. The accommodation is bright, homely and neat. The south-west facing balcony catches every ray of afternoon and evening sun. Musically inclined guests can have use of a fine grand piano.
The flat and guest accommodation is simple and welcoming. Access to cooking and laundry facilities are available if required. A modest enhancement of the guest room is an electric valet. The covered balcony - whatever the weather- is a quiet place to sit, relax with a coffee and croissant or a glass of something. A good place to plan your day and your stay or unwind.
Alnwick Castle is just a five minute walk away and the Gardens are just a ten minute walk across town. There are many coffee and tea shops of which I can personally commend particular favourites and which include light lunches. Hulne Park with its old sculptural trees and wonderful views is also a few minutes walk away. A circular walk including the River Aln, the Castle, gentle hills and fields is a must. For evening dining, there are further personal recommendations locally and within a reasonable radius.

  • Exceptionally clean and highly appointed property, home from home . Very comfortable beds, couldn't fault anything.

    Paul2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa was a brilliant host- clear and quick communication and everything clean and well presented. The space was actually larger than we had expected from the photos. We were four adults and a toddler, staying in Alnwick for a wedding and the location couldn't have been better- 5 mins walk from the shops (if that) and only a couple of minutes from our favourite hang-out, Barter Books. The whole house was cosy and warm, and the welcome basket was lovely and we particularly appreciated the packet of confetti! The welcome pack was very informative and included info on local kid's playparks, which was a massive help for us. We recommend this place very highly!

    Viccy2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • So glad I booked this Airbnb property. Great location within a few minutes walk to Alnwick town centre and Barter's books. The property was exceptional. Sparkling clean , well decorated , spacious with good amenities. Communication with Lisa was prompt and friendly. Welcome tray was appreciated-. Thank you Lisa for a great stay. Highly recommended.

  • Church View is in a perfect location for all amenities in Alnwick being only a short walk away. The house itself is immaculately presented, super clean and furnishings being of a high standard. The welcome tray and fresh flowers on arrival is like nothing we've seen before, amazing! Lisa, you are an excellent host, thanks for having us.

    Claire2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • One of the nicest cottages we have visited! Lisa left a lovely welcome pack for us and our houndies too, along with a thoughtful personal message. Lots of nice touches around the cottage which is warm, beautifully clean and amazingly well kitted out. Location is also perfect, a few minutes from Barter books and 2 minutes from town but tucked away, very quiet with a sweet little back garden, would love to revisit with shrubs out later in year. Our dogs loved the walks over fields beyond the castle and along the river, the views are wonderful. Thank you for a relaxing stay, we didn’t tour round at all as we wanted a peaceful car free break, so that will be for another time!

A cleverly converted 'hemmel' cottage providing luxurious yet cosy one level accommodation within tranquil gardens. St Cuthbert is the ideal place for a romantic, rural break for couples who enjoy the peace & quiet of the countryside. The cottage has been tastefully designed, offering light & airy accommodation with easily accessible, disabled friendly features making it ideal for less mobile guests. St Cuthbert is perfectly placed with Craster, Bamburgh, Alnwick Castle & Garden all nearby.
At a glance, will St Cuthbert work for you ? -The ground floor space compromises studio style accommodation which is all on one level with a living & sleeping area, kitchen & shower/wet room with walk-in shower. -The sleeping area is located centrally within the studio cottage. -The enclosed private courtyard includes a mobility scooter charging point. -Broadband wifi throughout the property. -Off road parking. -No pets allowed. -Northumberland was voted the best UK holiday county in the 2018 British Travel Awards. -Upon arrival at St Cuthbert, our guests receive a welcome pack as well as complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits & milk to get their stay underway. Bed linen, towels & tea towels are also provided. -Private setting with adjacent cottages also available through Airbnb to rent.
-St Cuthbert at The Old Mill is located in the small hamlet of Littlemill, four miles north east of Alnwick. -Please be considerate when entering & leaving the hamlet to your fellow neighbours, both human & animal ! -The cottage is situated halfway between Alnwick & Craster so is perfectly placed for guests to visit the fantastic coastal spots, castles & stunning Northumberland National Park which are all within easy travelling distance by car. -Craster on the beautiful heritage coastal route is only 2.5 miles away. The picturesque fishing village is world famous for it's smoked kippers & the glorious walk from it's harbour to Dunstanburgh Castle. -Howick Hall Gardens are nearby & well worth a visit, with banks of rhododendrons, camellias & magnolias in the springtime. -A visit to Holy Island, which is reached via a tidal causeway & is famous for the Lindisfarne Gospels, is a must. -Don't forget the pretty village of Bamburgh with its majestic castle overlooking the expansive sandy beach. -Alnwick Castle & Garden, with its spectacular grand cascade waterfall & tree house restaurant, are 4 miles away. St Cuthbert & The Old Mill-A potted history. -As the name suggests The Old Mill was once a water mill & the remains of the mill wheel can be seen at the rear of the property. -If you look to the left while facing the building you will see a field which was once the site of a medieval village known as 'Little Houghton'. Corn mills were a common feature of such villages, so it is likely that a mill has stood at this location since this time. The name 'Little Houghton' was later reused & today there is a nearby village known by the same name. The earliest the mill buildings appear on a map is around 1820. -The lime kiln (Grade 2 listed) on the opposite side of the road approaching the hamlet of Little Mill would have been a large local employer when in use. Extraction started in the 18th century & it was one of the largest in the country with it's own railway siding. The limestone was burnt with coal to produce quicklime for use in fertiliser & mortar. -There was once a railway station at Little Mill (1847 to 1965), families from Gateshead & Newcastle enjoyed holidays in nearby Craster, alighting at Little Mill & walking with their luggage the two miles down to the coastal village. -The Old Mill building was derelict until purchased from the local land owning Howick family in the late 1980's & was subsequently bought by an order of the Catholic church known as the 'Helpers of the Holy Souls' & run by nuns as a retreat. Local legend has it that Maxine Carr, accomplice to the Soham murders, resided here on her release from prison under a new identity. -The two smaller cottages (known as 'hemmels'), St Bede & St Cuthbert were once the home of farm animals but were converted in 2001. In fact, the word 'hemmel' means a simple shelter in a field for cattle or hay. -The current owner bought the house in 2007 & in 2017 extensively renovated the property to make the accommodation more comfortable as well as securing the fabric of the building & outlying grounds for future generations. -The adjacent properties of The Old Mill & St Bede offer further accommodation options & can be booked jointly or separately through Airbnb. -Please 'like' of page on the 'Book of Face' to be kept up to date with all things with regard to St Cuthbert & Northumberland.

The accommodation is compact but luxurious, containing everything one needs for a few days, including a washer/dryer. It’s a very peaceful location yet we were easily able to get to Lindisfarne and Bamburgh castle. Highly recommended.

  • Lovey place, would definitely recommend. Very clean, airy and light. Very good use of space in beautiful surroundings. If you don’t have a car, book taxi’s in advance. It’s a challenge to book one at short notice, and some may not know the location of the place. All sorted in the end but a heads up to anyone staying here. John was very communicative and had added some very thoughtful touches.

    Matthew2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended, a beautiful accommodation with everything you would need and John left chocolates and prosecco for us which was a lovely unexpected treat.

  • We had a lovely 4 nights thank you Rachel. House was super clean, lovely fluffy towels and everything was nice and fresh. Kids loved the xbox! 2 bathrooms was very handy. House had everything we could possibly need. Location was great for Anlwick, we want to come back in the warmer weather and do the river walk that was suggested and see the castle. Plenty of supermarkets close by. We were there in VERY windy weather but we were super cosy and will happily visit again. Highly recommended!!

  • We had a lovely time. The house is very warm and homely. It's situated within walking distance of Alnwick to get to the pubs, restaurants and shops but also feels secluded enough to get a genuine countryside experience. Rachel is a friendly and attentive host who provided good instructions for everything from finding the house to how to work everything in it. Thank you!

    Phillip2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great place jus routside Alnwick. Nice shortish walk into Alnwick itself. House very clean with great communal area.

  • Booked the Granary for a reunion of old flatmates from university. The cottage is beautifully decorated and really peaceful, it was the perfect place for a relaxed weekend. We loved the thoughtful touches and how we felt completely at home. We didn't want to leave this morning, we considered begging to live here! Will definitely be back. Thank you Rachel for providing such a perfect home away from home.

Hotspur Retreat is a recently renovated town house, a short walk from the centre of Alnwick, and its many visitor attractions. Over three floors, the house accommodates 3 bedrooms and a luxury bathroom, with feature bath and large waterfall shower. There is also a modern lounge with fire, fully fitted kitchen with granite work tops and integrated appliances, and patio doors leading to an outside dining area. The property comes with its own private car parking space as well as Free WiFi.
If you really want to escape, Northumberland is the place to run too. Surrounded by, fishing ports, distinguished market towns and far-flung hamlets in the deep valleys of the Northumberland National Park. Castles are almost ten-a-penny here, Some like Alnwick Castle and gardens, Bamburgh Castle and Warkworth Castle are family-friendly days out, while many others are spectral ruins that complement the untamed countryside perfectly. Alnwick’s Market Town has terraces of limestone flat-fronted townhouses with second-hand bookshops, coffee shops, pubs and restaurants. The big sight is the town’s castle, which is the second-largest inhabited castle in the UK, after Windsor. You’re free to poke around in the summer, and there’s extra incentive for Harry Potter fans as the property was Hogwarts in the movies. You’ll also be spellbound by The Alnwick Garden, landscaped hedges and flowerbeds around a water cascade. To arouse morbid curiosity there’s a Poison Garden growing hemlock, foxglove and the plants to make ricin and strychnine. Also, make excursions to the castles at Chillingham, Edlingham and Dunstanburgh and to experience the awesome beachscapes at Alnmouth, Low Newton, Embleton Bay, Bamburgh.
  • Had a fabulous 3 nights at Hotspur Retreat. Having booked last minute we arrived to find a lovely goodie hamper containing milk, wine, biscuits, bread, butter, jam, marmalade and beautiful flowers. Alison was very quick to respond to messages and very helpful, she is certainly a Superhost. The house is immaculate, warm and cosy and has everything you need. It is in a great location, situated in a quiet courtyard with parking outside the door and just a 5 minute walk to the centre of Alnwick. The bathroom is a real treat and the rainfall shower is amazing. I could have happily stayed longer and would love to return. I would definitely recommend this house 100%

    Julie2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is the best airbnb I have stayed in, would highly recommend! From the start Alison was extra accommodating and allowed us check in early as we were attending a wedding. The house itself is gorgeous, immaculately decorated and spotlessly clean. There were also loads of thoughtful extra touches, such as wine and flowers! Alnwick itself is lovely and the house is perfectly located for exploring the town and for supermarkets etc. Thank you for a fantastic stay.

    Charlotte2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Hotspur Retreat has been beautifully renovated to a very high standard. Immaculately clean with lots of thoughtful touches making ones stay seamless and very home from home. Check in was very straightforward & although we did not meet Alison, she had already provided recommendations for go to restaurants in the area. I would not hesitate to recommend this property...perfect location for getting around the Northumberland coastline.

    Nichola2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay. Will come again if staying in Alnwick.

    Graeme2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • A truly stunning place to stay. Every detail carefully thought out to give you a 5* home from home experience. Alison was the perfect host.

    Laura2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • What a stunning house. Stylish yet cosy and spotlessly clean. Went for a girly weekend and we had such a lovely time. Would highly recommend this lovely home.

  • Having recently got married we wanted a quiet spot to get away from it all, relax and enjoy a few days together. We found everything we needed in Alisons home. Everything you could think of, this place has it. Perfect location, spotlessly clean and very luxurious. Beautiful beaches and towns only a short drIve away. Can’t recommend it enough.

    Matt2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a very happy new year in this lovely cottage. It’s beautifully decorated, cosy and comfortable, so perfect to relax in with friends and family. The bedrooms are all very comfortable with good quality mattresses and bedding. The kitchen is spacious and includes everything you need to self-cater, but the cottage is also a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Alnwick so eating out is also very accessible. Alison provided so many thoughtful touches, from bottles of milk and wine, to bread, butter and chocolates. Shampoo, conditioner and bath/shower gel were also provided in the spacious family bathroom. Alnwick is a lovely location to spend a few days in. We enjoyed exploring the town itself, and also driving around to see Northumberland’s beautiful beaches and castles. Don’t miss out on Barter Books either - it is an amazing second hand bookshop in the old railway station, about an 8-10 minute walk from the cottage.

This charming stone cottage in the heart of the historic market town is very popular and well located. During school summer hols please only book either 3 nights from a Friday or 4 nights from a Monday, and so Mandy, our fab cleaner, only has to work on Mondays and Fridays during the holidays. Please note that there is only a shower at Juliet Cottage, there isn't a bath, although Airbnb's symbol implies that there is a bath. We do have a large baby bath for little ones who are staying.
Juliet Cottage is a lovely cottage in a great location, very close to Alnwick Castle and Gardens and to all the little tea rooms, restaurants, shops and pubs in Alnwick. It is a lovely cottage and was built along side the original Alnwick town walls. We have been told that the row of cottages which include Juliet Cottage was built by the then Duke of Northumberland to house some Italian artisans who had come over to work at the Castle, just passing on the folklore!
Alnwick is a friendly, safe town which is a good size to walk around in. It has lots of historic beautiful buildings, not to mention the Castle and Alnwick Gardens which are about five minutes walk from the cottage.
  • We have spent 3 lovely days together in Alnwick and stayed in Juliet cottage - I can only say WOW - what a beautiful place to stay - Louises special little gifts that she provides for her guests are a lovely unique touch - and the cleanliness and location of the cottage is great - I can’t recommend Louise enough for providing us with such first class accommodation and service - we will be back no doubt about that ❤️😘

    Joyce2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a lovely five nights at Juliet Cottage over New Year, with our two boys (aged 5 & 3). The cottage is in a perfect spot for exploring Alnwick Castle & Gardens, and the gorgeous Northumberland coast. It’s an ideal set up for small kids, and we really appreciated all the extra touches - including the wonderful hamper of local goodies on arrival, and advice on restaurants & other local highlights. All in all, the cottage, setting and care shown by Louise as host made it a special week!

    James2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Louise is an excellent host with warm and friendly communication and very thoughtful touches throughout the property. I also love the fact she is keen on recycling and took care of the rubbish after we had separated it. The cottage is beautifully decorated and was lovely and cosy for our winter stay. I would definitely recommend this property if you want to stay in Northumbria

    Julie2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was absolutely fantastic, cosy yet spacious and with everything you could possibly need. The location was great and the welcome hamper and bottle of fizz was very thoughtful and much appreciated. Louise was a perfect host, friendly and communicative throughout. We look forward to visiting again soon!

  • We loved our stay at Juliet cottage. Alnick was a great place to stay. The cottage was clean, cosy and stocked with everything we could need. There were lots of personal touches including an incredible amaretto and almond cake and the hosts provided all the information we could need. We hope to be able to stay again in the future.

    Andrew2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Perfectly situated to explore historic Alnwick and the house proved most comfortable and welcoming - we walked in and felt immediately at home. We enjoyed our all-too-brief stay and look forward to returning there before long. Definitely to be recommended.

  • A delightful apartment with lots of thoughtful touches, in an attractive & convenient part of town. It totally lives up to the pictures (which isn’t always the case in my experience!) A great base for exploring this beautiful part of the world.

    Kate2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is in a great location opposite the castle and a short walk into the town centre. There are beautiful walks around the castle. The cottage is extremely well equipped and very cosy. There was enough room for us and our toddler who liked having the outside space to walk out into (with us!) and watch the birds. Lynn was a great host, quick responses and helping us out when we left some items in the cottage and lost our roof box keys!! Great customer service. Thanks for a great stay, the only downside was storm Jorge precluding walks on the beautiful coast!

    Rachael2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, cosy cottage with everything you could possibly need! The thoughtful welcome basket was one of the nicest we have ever received. The bed is extremely comfortable, the rooms are lovely and warm and the kitchen is very well equipped. We had an amazing time in Alnwick and the cottage was the perfect location to explore the town and surrounding area. We are planning to come back already!

    Abbey2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing, from the locations, views, style to the homeliness. The welcome basket was something else, such a nice touch. If you want a cosy apartment with views of one of the best castles in the UK, you need to stay here..... and this is written in the depths of winter when the town is near its quietest.

    Dan2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, comfy apartment. Very clean and well equipped. Really good place to explore Northumberland from. The owner's communicated all relevant info with us and ensured everything was ok with the apartment at the beginning of our holiday.

  • Amazing apartment, in an fantastic location. Lynn was great, she rang to ask if everything was ok and if we needed anything. There was nothing we needed because everything was there. The apartment itself was so cosy I didn’t want to leave. Will definitely return. Thank you Lynn

  • What an amazing stay! The apartment was spotlessly clean, decor was high quality and the facilities were brilliant. Nice touch with the welcome basket, we felt very spoilt. Location is great with a cute little window seat to people watch and a private garden to relax listening to the birds in the morning.
