Ron & Debbie thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to get back in tune with nature, forget the city life, & let go of things that serve us no good. Watching sunrises every morning and seeing wild life in our surroundings was amazing. We got to leave refreshed & feeling so much love. We hate to go but cannot wait until we are back!

Little House on the Lake Retreat, 500M Wifi

PaulaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Beautiful place for any season. This was one of our favorite airbnb stays. Helena is an excellent host. The space is clean and thoughtfully decorated. Many books, a fireplace, extensive views of Lake Huron from most windows: we enjoyed every minute here. We especially liked the amazing stove, the sunrises, boat and bird watching, the lower stair deck, and kayaking. We explored the shoreline in both directions. Definitely recommend!

Pere Marquette Riverfront Cabin

MattRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
What an incredible and peaceful property. The weather was a bit cold for this time of year, but the incredible views from within the cabin and cozy sofa made for awesome days of quiet and relaxation. The grocery store is so close (a few minutes drive) while the property still feels completely private, which was so nice for quick stock ups at the store without feeling like you had fully re-emerged into society. Beds were comfy as well. Would love to come back in the summer time in order to spend more time down by and in the water, but no matter the time of year I have no doubt you will love this place if peace, quiet, and time in nature to recharge is your goal (or as a “home base” for other adventures). Thanks to Russ and Jade for sharing a truly magical place.

The Rhubarbary Ruins - with an outdoor sauna

MariaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Even more beautiful in person! I booked another weekend trip for next fall about 5 minutes after walking in the door. It was perfect for our little family. The beds were very comfortable, and the whole space felt warm, clean, and thoughtfully put together. The location couldn’t have been better—just 5 minutes from Pond Hill Farm and within 15 minutes of everything we wanted to do, yet it still felt tucked away and peaceful. We especially loved the sauna—such a relaxing bonus after a day of exploring. Even on a rainy day, we were perfectly content staying in and enjoying the cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a serene, well-appointed escape.

Cheerful Six Mile Lake Log Cabin.

KatieRating, 5 stars4 days ago
Wow — this was maybe the best AirBnB experience that I’ve had. Monica has done such a wonderful job with this cabin. It was pristine, peaceful, and in the most beautiful location. The cabin itself was exceptionally comfortable with everything we needed for comfort. The kitchen was well stocked with essentials and cooking utensils, with a great grill outside — we used it for most meals! The porch was almost with the entire value of the place itself, a perfect spot to sit and relax and enjoy the day. My dog was in LOVE with her surroundings, and we enjoyed many a walk down the long grassy lawn to the water where she swam and laid out in the sun on the dock (plus was put into a kayak successfully for the first time with moderate success!). Monica was an incredible host who has quite literally thought of everything to make the stay perfect. We hope to stay again in the future!

Spring Lake Cabin

KieraRating, 5 stars3 days ago
This was the third year in a row my boyfriend and I have stayed at this gorgeous cabin, and each time it gets better and better! As always, Ian and Melanie were amazing hosts: providing a spotless cabin with an upgraded bathroom, and reached out proactively when needed. 100% a steal on the price to stay at this breathtaking cabin. It’s on a private lake with provided kayaks, a row boat, and paddle boat; as well as, wifi and A/C making it the perfect combination of modern amenities with the homey feel of a cabin on the lake. If you’re thinking about staying in or around Iron Mountain, definitely look into the Spring Lake Cabin- you won’t regret it!! We look forward to coming back next year :)

The hospitality that Frank and Kaylee showed us before, during, and after our visit was tremendous. Any questions I had, Frank was prompt to respond with relevant information. He was very respectful and patient and made it his #1 priority that our stay was magical. The place we stayed was decorated beautifully and we had everything we needed to cook, clean, and relax! Props to Kaylee for giving my wife ideas for our own home. We are about 7 hours away, but we will definitely be back! Thank you both again!

A-Frame w/Lake/Hot Tub/Sauna/Pontoon/Kayaks

StephanieRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We had a wonderful time staying at Peyton and Jamie’s lake house! Very cozy and perfect for two people (plus pets) - we particularly loved the hot tub, sauna, and wearing the matching robes that were waiting for us upon arrival. We would not recommend drinking the tap water, it smells a bit off and is a brownish color due to what we assumed to be a higher sulfur content, but you should be fine if you bring your own filtered water or pick some up in town. Thanks for hosting us!

Loved this place for our girls weekend. The stairs were narrow but knew this before we booked. Place was clean and had some nice extras …. Hammock and hot tub was used often. Katie was a wonderful host. We did not have any problem so the there was little contact. Blinds on the entry door would be a nice thing to add. Would recommend! 5 stars for this beautiful little A Frame.

Your guide to Michigan

Welcome to Michigan

Most Michiganders use the state's unique mitten shape to describe their home, but the state also sticks out like a thumb from the top of the country, nudging neighboring Canada. Michigan has the longest freshwater coastline of any state, which touches four of the five Great Lakes (Michigan, after all, means "large lake" in Ojibwe). A small strait separates the mitten-shaped southern portion of the state from the Upper Peninsula, a quirky little piece of land known for its idyllic scenery and outdoor recreation. Michigan's many beaches, parks, and resort towns dot the shoreline and interior lakes, drawing visitors from big cities around the Midwest, including the state's own metropolis, Detroit. Known as the home of Motown and the heart of the automobile industry, Detroit continues to hold an important place in American culture, and is the only U.S. city named a UNESCO City of Design.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Michigan

Michigan's seasons offer four distinct reasons to visit. In the summer, the beach towns on Lake Michigan and the Upper Peninsula spring to life, offering relief from the heat and stressors of daily life. In the winter, the many feet of snow that fall courtesy of the lake-influenced weather patterns turn the state into a playground for skiers, snowmobilers, and sledders, making it a cozy time to stay in a Michigan cabin rental. Spring brings a rainbow of wildflowers and rushing waterfalls for hikers, and autumn bursts with crisp-colored foliage and bountiful fruit. Fall also attracts sports fans excited to see Detroit's professional football team as well as two popular college teams: the University of Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State University Spartans.

Top things to do in Michigan

Mackinac Island

Located in the waterway between Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsulas, this car-free island prevents modernity from disrupting the peaceful beauty of nature. Since the late 19th century, island shops have specialized in making fudge. Just like that earlier era, the only ways to explore the historic fort and dramatic natural features like Arch Rock are by foot, bike, and boat.

Eastern Market

For 130 years, Detroiters have come to this six-block public market on Saturdays to purchase the literal and theoretical fruits of the state's famous agricultural industry. Hundreds of vendors set up shop here, selling Michigan cherries, flowers, and meat as well as prepared foods. The rest of the week, the neighborhood still serves as a culinary district and shopping area, with Tuesdays bringing in farmers and Sundays focusing on non-food vendors.

Saugatuck

You’ll enjoy Michigan from a whole new vantage point when you take the 19th-century, hand-operated chain ferry from the main part of this former art colony out to its world-renowned Oval Beach. Saugatuck's towering sand dunes, epic sunsets, and appreciation for beauty in all forms make it emblematic of Michigan's best destinations.
