Thanks again! We feel at home here. I am noting that holiday weekends are less peaceful in the Northern Neck! We'll remember that. Fondly, Lois and Ken

Historic St.Mary's City at the Lazy Bear Cottage

BrandonRating, 5 stars4 days ago
The place was great! I had success fishing with some worms! I caught probably 10-15 small red drum I believe! It was located in a great area! All the other towns were about 20-30 minutes away. I would recommend this place 100 times over

A "True" Chesapeake Bay Waterfront Experience!

JenniferRating, 5 stars1 month ago
I truly wish I could put into words just how beautiful and peaceful this home and property were. It is truly a place that was so inviting and well maintained it made me miss the eastern shore of Virginia and start looking at properties in the area. The land is so cool to walk and explore and the bay at this home is just serene. To be able to wake up and see the view this home has is just spectacular. Matt is spot on with the description of his home and you truly can't find one thing wrong with this home or the property surrounding it and having a dog,it is so key with the wash station outside because our lab puppy could not get enough of the bay or going out in the kayaks with us. I truly wish they had more stars to rate this home. Thank you for being so gracious and allowing us to visit your spectacular home!

Bay cottage 🏖on the beach. Stunning views🏝

PaulRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We LOVED our stay! The screened porch overlooking the beach was so peaceful and our favorite place to be in the evening. The house was lovely, well cared for, very clean, and very tastefully decorated. The welcome book provided everything you needed to know about the house and surrounding area. We will be back again!

Water View Cottage

AnnRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
A beautiful water view cottage in a quiet and peaceful setting was precisely what we wanted — and got — during our stay at this home. We couldn’t be happier. Everything was perfect. View of the sunset (which, along with the water) could be seen from inside of the home. This is truly a special little spot that we hope to be visiting again sometime. I highly recommend this rental.

The Shell Hunter

BenjaminRating, 5 starstoday
The Shell Hunter was perfect for our family of 4's fourth summer vacationing on Chincoteague. Janel's instructions for check in were clear, and everything was exactly as shown/described in the listing. The location was perfect, tucked away but still walkable to the main drag. The house itself was ideal for my wife and I and our two young children, with a great king bed upstairs and two additional private rooms downstairs. There were plenty of dishes/cookware in the spacious kitchen and we especially loved the two porches (front and back) and the outdoor shower so we didn't have to track beach sand into the house. We've stayed in a different vacation home on each of our visits to the island, but this one may have to become a repeat!

Bikes-Kayaks-Outdoor Shower Grill-Firepit-Beach Eq

LorraineRating, 5 stars1 day ago
This place had a great location; it was less than 10 minutes for the local restaurants and only a 15 drive to the beach. The kitchen had everything you needed, there was plenty of space for atleast 6 people (even though there was just the two of us). The airbnb itself was really charming. Host was amazing, really responsive and communicative. Their checkin and checkout procedures were really clear. My only “asterisk” is that since it is an older house and in the middle of a marshland basically, it was pretty humid inside. It seems normal for the area especially considering it was raining half of our stay. The AC boxes in every room definitely helped but just something to note about our stay. I’d recommend a dehumidifier to the hosts. Overall a great stay, would recommend this place to all when staying in Chincoteague!!

Bruce’s place was magical. My buddy and I had a great time! It looks small on the outside but is incredibly spacious on the inside. Also, you can tell it’s recently renovated, decorated with new, nicely furnished decor and equipped with everything you need. Highly recommend this location and will stay here again!!

Central Location- Walk to Dining & Entertainment!

TracyRating, 5 stars4 days ago
The townhouse was beautifully furnished with a beach vibe. Kitchen huge, clean and had everything you needed to cook. Front bedroom very sunny and comfortable. Back bedroom smaller and a little dark. Our dogs were comfortable staying there, but note the grassy area out front is not fenced. Very close to nice restaurants, we walked to a few. Appreciated the park pass and enjoyed our time at the park. Saw lots of ponies. Enjoyed our short stay.

cozy sunset cottage

ElizabethRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Christy's Cottage was very comfortable and pet friendly. It was close to everything we wanted to do, and the kitchen was fully stocked. You can tell why she is considered a Superhost. We enjoyed our stay there, and would certainly consider returning. If you are going to see the ponies, we recommend Captain Mike with Up The Bay Pony Tours. Chincoteague and Assateague are lovely places to visit. Bring your camera if you are a nature lover. Pets aren't allowed on Assateague Island (not even in your car), but at Christy's we were able to leave our pups in their crates for a little while so that we go.

Marsh View Saxis

SonyaRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Jennifer’s place was the best stocked place we have ever stayed in over two dozen rentals! She had everything you could ever need or want available from thoughtful touches of bottled water, coffee, sunscreen and bug spray to fully serviced bikes, dog bowls, beach chairs and umbrellas. We loved the peaceful location and the yard was Huge! Our dogs had the best time. We used the bikes and went for walks to the water. Everyone in town was lovely. I think another reviewer said it but if your dogs are cat reactive keep on the lookout/leashed as there are lots of island cats on Savis. Our dogs couldn’t care less about the cats so not a big deal for us and the cats were characters! We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Oh and if you like movies or sports you have to check out the rental home’s amazing tvs!

Relax & Rewind | Eco-Friendly Island Escape

WinonaRating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
My daughter and I stayed at Misty Pines for a special mother-daughter trip inspired by Misty of Chincoteague—and it was perfect. The townhome was cozy, clean, and had everything we needed. We stayed in the upstairs bedroom with a comfy queen and a twin tucked under the window—such a sweet setup! Every bed was super comfortable, and my daughter adored the soft sheets. The full-size washer/dryer, well-stocked kitchen, and extras like beach towels, a cooler, beach chairs, and extra blankets made everything so easy. We also loved having both streaming and DirecTV for downtime. Host was incredibly kind and responsive—from helping us plan activities, to answering small questions (even late at night), to graciously extending our stay with no hassle. Misty Pines was the perfect home base for a meaningful and memorable trip. We’d absolutely come back again—a peaceful, well-stocked, and welcoming place for families or anyone visiting Chincoteague! Highly recommend 😊

The Moore Cottage

JoelRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
The cottage was better than we could have imagined, the pictures don’t do it justice. We took full advantage of the backyard views while having breakfast on the back deck. A quick drive to the surrounding towns provided plenty of dining and entertainment options. Windmill Point Marina was a 5 minute ride with live music and good eats. We enjoyed the Northern Neck and look forward to our next stay.

Peaceful Haven: nature & charming town

StephanieRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
What a wonderful place and host! Pictures do not do it justice. It looks like a cosy cottage on the outside, but it is much bigger on the inside. Very clean. The first floor provides an extremely functional living space - living room, dinning area, kitchen and sun room. The couch in the sun room is extremely comfortable. The bedroom and bathroom upstairs are palatial. The two bedrooms downstairs are very cosy and have their own beautiful bathrooms. One of the downstairs bedrooms has a wonderfully enclosed porch off of it. Everything is up to date and very functional - Wi-Fi, heating and air conditioning, washer & drier, kitchen appliances, etc. And the host was quick to respond to any questions. We hope to return soon and take advantage of the outdoor activities.

Bell Farm Cottage LLC - quiet and peaceful

PaulRating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
We had a wonderful stay at Bell Farm Cottage! From the moment we arrived, we felt at ease. The cottage is charming and perfectly appointed — it has everything you need without feeling cluttered. Tia, the host, has truly thought of every detail, ensuring guests have all the comforts of home while maintaining a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The location is ideal—just a short drive to Onancock, a quaint town with lovely water access. The Peninsula's natural beauty is all around, and we enjoyed every moment of it. Whether relaxing in the cottage or exploring nearby attractions, we felt we could experience the best of the area from Greenbush as our home base. Tia was such a thoughtful and considerate host. She goes above and beyond to ensure your experience is memorable and enjoyable. Her warmth made our stay even more special. We highly recommend Bell Farm Cottage for anyone looking for a relaxing, well-appointed getaway in a beautiful location.

Gettin to the point. ( Cove Point Beach)

AlisRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Lisa was very responsive to all my texts as I had several personal hiccups trying to get on my trip. Her cottage is absolutely adorable and I am eager to come for a second visit. The cottage is very comfortable with a variety of indoor and outdoor space to gather in. In addition, it is in a great location with the beach just across the street. The neighborhood was peaceful and a sweet beach community. The fenced in yard was a gem as I was traveling with a dog.

Your guide to Chincoteague

All About Chincoteague

Seven miles long and half as wide, Chincoteague Island is located at the north end of the chain of barrier islands that hug Virginia’s coastline. It’s a popular getaway for visitors from up and down the Eastern Seaboard. You can relax on the seashore, take a boat cruise to scout for the area’s famous wild ponies, or ride a bike around town and across the bridge to Assateague Island. Clamming and crabbing are favorite local activities: You can buy the equipment to catch your own seafood or gorge on blue crabs at one of the local restaurants, finishing up with a trip to the island’s beloved ice cream shop.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Chincoteague

Not surprisingly, peak travel season in Chincoteague coincides with the hottest months of the year: June through September. Temperatures then average in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit. The humidity spikes in July and August, with regular showers, so you’ll want to pack light, breathable clothes and umbrellas. Winds blowing off the Atlantic Ocean do help to relieve the mugginess — and you can always jump in the water to cool off. A gentle autumn gives way to a mild winter. Snow is rare, but the temperatures regularly dip into the 30s Fahrenheit, and the winds can be brisk. Bring lined waterproof outerwear and good boots, and you’re set to wander on the beach no matter what month you visit.

Top things to do in Chincoteague

Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge

This 14,000-acre refuge was founded in the 1940s to protect the wildfowl who migrate here during the winters. Its beaches, marshes, and dunes stretch across the southern end of Assateague and onto surrounding islands. More than 300 species of birds nest here, including bald eagles, making this a paradise for birders. Short, accessible trails for walking and biking snake through the wetlands, including one that leads to the 19th-century Assateague Lighthouse.

Wallops Flight Facility

Five miles east of Chincoteague is NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility, which the agency uses to launch research rockets and balloons. The garden at the Visitor Center will appeal to anyone who’s dreamed of escaping the Earth’s atmosphere, with spacecraft and airplanes on display. You can sign up for a guided tour of the center’s displays, or consult the schedule to see if a launch will be taking place.

Assateague Island National Seashore

Hop east from Chincoteague over a small stretch of water, and you’ve arrived at the Atlantic Ocean. The southernmost beach of 37-mile-long Assateague Island is a skinny isthmus covered in soft sands and, in the summer, beach towels. There are lifeguard-monitored swimming zones, as well as spots ideal for surfing, paddleboarding, kayaking and surf fishing. If you drive to the beach you’ll need to buy a daily or weekly pass.
