Colorful Art-Inspired Retro Chic Apartment
Step back from the bustle of everyday life in this inspirational space. The home features detailed parquet floors, curated paintings throughout, contrasting textures and motifs, eclectic furnishings and decor, and a mid-century modern aesthetic. When making your reservation, please acknowledge that you are aware that the house manager, Sandra, lives on the premises in a separate quarter with her daughter and is there during the week (and sometimes on the weekends) to greet you, check you in and out, and help you with anything you may need, such as serving your complimentary breakfast, one of the few places in all of Brazil to offer that. For more details, please read the House Rules section or the House Manual. Thank you! Building has 24-hour security, and cameras on all floors. Please note that absolutely no outside visitors are allowed. No one not listed on the reservation is permitted at our home, and no parties either. Absolutely NO smoking, either. Thank you! Obrigado! Welcome to our Copacabana retreat, which has been a treasured part of our family since the 1940’s. Each room of our home is brimming with history, though recent renovations sought to strike a balance between modernity, and the beauty of Rio’s illustrious past. In our home, you’ll find a vast common space that is perfect for small gatherings and dinners, whether you’re looking to skip out to the beach, or explore the other sights of Cidade Maravilhosa. (And trust us—there are many!) The kitchen is fully stocked with appliances and select ingredients, if guests choose to dine in. The bathrooms come equipped with brand-new showers and sinks in each, and a bathtub in one, with offerings like shampoo, conditioner, and soap available to guests. Each of the bedrooms include ample storage space for clothes, as well as side tables for belongings. High-speed WiFi and TVs with Netflix, Amazon Prime and NET access in every bedroom (Apple TV in one of the bedrooms) and a large screen-4K TV in the living room, are also at the guests’ disposal, while a coffee bar and alcohol bar are located in the common space for your enjoyment. There is also an antique dining room table, for sit-down meals. The apartment also has American-style and European-style electrical plugs as well as multiple USB ports and adapters. While we will most often not be able to greet you on-site, our house manager, Sandra, lives in a separate quarter with her daughter, on the premises. After living here for over 20 years, she knows the property and the neighborhood better than anyone, and will be here at during the week (and sometimes on weekends) to help facilitate guest’s needs, as well as the check-in and check-out process. She is also an amazing chef, so if you’re interested in tasting any traditional Brazilian dishes, don’t hesitate to ask! And of course, we will be reachable at all times over the Airbnb messaging app to answer any questions or address any comments you may have. We look forward to hosting you in the city we know, and love dearly! Guests have full access to the apartment. In terms of the kitchen, that includes a stove, an oven, a refrigerator, numerous dishware and cutlery, a toaster, a microwave, a dishwasher, a sink, and a breakfast island. Moving on, the dining room features a family-sized table, with six chairs, and a coffee bar featuring complimentary coffee or tea. Connected to the dining room is the living space, which is home to a large couch, a BYOB alcohol bar, a 4K high-definition TV, and a futon for ample lounging. All of the windows can be opened, and the lights have dimmers, to set the perfect ambience for a cafézinho (“coffee”) or a nice nap. As mentioned in the listing, there are three bedrooms— one with a queen-sized bed, one with a full-size bed and the third with two single beds that can be put together and converted to a queen-size bed. All come equipped with ample storage space and closets, as well as side tables for belongings. There are two bathrooms in this space. The one closest to the dining room features “His and Her” sinks, and a brand-new Amazonian-style rain shower. It also has space for toiletries, as well as some that are complimentary: travel-size shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, and lotion. The second bathroom, down the hall, has one sink, another Amazonian-style rain shower, and a sizeable standalone bathtub that was recently added. It features the same accessories as the first. In addition, bath and beach towels are provided to our guests. Outside of the kitchen, in the service area, there is a washer, and a drying rack to hang wet clothes. The washer is also a dryer. Check with Sandra. ● I give my guests space but am available when needed. ● Our house manager, Sandra, is at the apartment, in her own separate quarters, during weekdays and some weekend hours. As bossa nova legends have lauded for ages, this is the heart of Rio de Janeiro, a beachfront neighborhood lined with countless shops, restaurants, and botecos. The home is steps away from the volleyball nets, beach kiosks and cabanas dotting the beach. The apartment is in the heart of Copacabana, only 2 blocks away from the beach and 2 blocks from the nearest metro station. Multiple supermarkets, restaurants, retail and shopping within a few steps from the building. The closest Metro stop to our apartment is Siqueira Campos, located only a five-minute walk away (2 blocks) and servicing Line 1. This is your best bet for heading into Rio’s historic downtown area, the parties of Lapa, the hip happenings of Botafogo, the scenic ways and museums in Flamengo, and Porto Maravilha, which features the Museum of Tomorrow, and the colorful 2016 Rio Olympics Boulevard. Heading the other way, Line 1 will also take you to the start of Ipanema, where guests can explore the many bars and boutiques that neighborhood has to offer. What’s wonderful about Rio is that you have Uber, Cabify, and yellow cabs at your fingertips, which offer competitive prices to get virtually anywhere in the city. UberPool is popular amongst visitors, and while many Brazilians use Cabify, the app is also intuitive for English-speaking guests. More often than not, you can get to Leblon for a mere US $3 via Uber, and it’s rare that you’ll spend more than US $10 for a ride to the further reaches of the city. When coming from or going to Rio’s Galeão International Airport, Uber or Cabify are your cheapest bet, and guests can expect to pay anywhere from US $15to US $24 depending on local traffic at the time. A helpful tip when arriving at GIG is to head up the escalators to the second floor, where you’ll find the Departures level. From there, you’ll come across the Uber pick-up spot, and can select the specific door to help your driver find you. Lastly, a personal favorite of ours is “Walk Rio,” a walking path that slinks throughout most of the city’s hot spots. You’ll find wayfinding signs along the route, which detail nearby attractions (museums, Metro stops, and other cultural institutions), while acting as a distance measure for visitors. Adventurous travelers can challenge themselves by taking the entire path, which starts in Leblon and ends at the legendary Maracanã stadium. The apartment is located inside of Galeria Menescal, an age-old shopping corridor built when the war ended, in 1945. Throughout the day, small shops and cafes are open to visitors—we have a host of recommendations, so please check our Guidebook for more details. At night, the Galeria closes to the public, though there are 24/7 night guards who open the gate for guests. At all times, the building is quiet and secure for guests, and the employees who have worked here for decades are like family. They’ll be happy to welcome you with a smile, and a “boa noite” (“good evening/good night!”)
