Places to stay in Tarwin Lower

Places to stay in Tarwin Lower
Our home is open to guests to enjoy at their leisure, it is comfortable and has a deck where you can sit out and enjoy the lovely views over the farmland where the cows sometimes come over to graze. It is a 15-20 min walk to the beach and if you are going to Wilsons Prom it is about a 35min drive to the entrance. It is about a 50 min drive to Philip Island where the motorbike grand prix is held along with other races over the year. Wild life can often be viewed around Venus Bay in the evenings.
The bedroom is a good size and has a wide screen television to enjoy. There is a separate area where guests can go to have a game of pool or to watch television over a cuppa, also a continental breakfast is served in the mornings to start you on your day. Access to the internet is also available.
The neighborhood is quiet and safe.
  • Very neat room and amazing hospitality! Close to the beach where we had dinner watching the sun go down. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Gail is such a lovely and welcoming lady, so much so that we stayed up late chatting as we felt so comfortable and welcome. This was our first experience staying in someone else’s home and now Gail has set the bar we would do it again.

This is a getaway for those who enjoy experiencing wildlife and nature in a charming rural setting. It's a handmade house that blends Japanese style architecture with recycled materials to create an absolute of one-of-a-kind place. We fell in love with the quirky place and bought it in 2005, from Jim, who sourced interesting recycled materials and built it pedantically by hand. A combination of his passion, his craftsmanship and interest in energy flow can be felt in the overall result.
Liptrap Loft is our first child and we have owned and managed her for over 12 years. It is a large shack built by hand from recycled timber and tin. Set on five acres, it is surrounded on all sides by bush land, with distant views across neighbouring farm land. You can't see another building, so it is very private, and there is lots of wildlife. The location is quite remote and the house is rustic. It is certainly not for everyone. To see if it will be right for you, check the "WHAT IT DOES NOT HAVE" section below. We love the place, but to get a true feel for Liptrap Loft, read the reviews there's hundreds. HISTORY The house was built by Jim, a man of unusual talents. Some say he was a builder and cabinet maker, others say a piano maker and champion runner - but all agree that he was a pedantic master craftsman. Jim searched the region for a secluded sanctuary in which to build his dream home. For years he was a virtual recluse, living in a tent while he painstakingly sourced recycled materials to build the house that is now Liptrap Loft. He reluctantly sold the house to study architecture at age 50. We came across the place when we were looking for an investment property. We had strict criteria detailed in spreadsheets showing the exact cash flow required for an investment. After searching Melbourne every bumper-to-bumper weekend for months, we were completely uninspired. So we took a weekend away in Gippsland. Some friends said "come and look at this quirky house, you'll like it". Dedication to any financial logic went out the window the first time we saw the Japanese bath house and smelled the woody interior. We fell in love with the place and bought it. They say buying property on emotion is a bad idea. It wasn't long before we realised we couldn't cover the mortgage. Reluctantly we decided we'd have to rent it out. But sometimes intuition is more powerful than logic. We started renting the house out to holiday makers. As popularity grew we were able to invest the income back into the property, based on feedback from guests and our vision of how it should grow. To our surprise we really liked having people stay and enjoy the place. It since has become our obsession. It is extraordinary to find so many people who share the passion we have for it. Twelve years on we are very proud of what we have created in Jim's spirit. Liptrap Loft is unique and rustic. If you are a "5 star - no less!" type of person, it probably wont be for you. Please make sure it is your 'cup of tea' before booking. OUR FAVOURITE REVIEW Magical Mystery Tour Liptrap Loft - Eugenie May 2014 "The quirky Liptrap Loft is almost Dr. Seuss Australia style, starting with the roof line. Upon entering one immediately laughs at the size of the four poster bed which is big enough for 8 people. Then opening the fridge one finds a telephone, and hot water bottle and a few other items. Only after a little more searching there is an operating fridge. Thank goodness. Filled with giggles, and quirks, and fun one checks out the outdoor Japanese bathhouse with the very quirky shower head dangling magically in space ….truly the whole experience was one big holiday from normalcy. It works. The pots and pans are best quality. The wood for the huge Coonara is plentiful if you can find the secret door! All in all we had a really lovely time, relaxing in this unique and fantastical environment. Generosity was the name of the game. Such a treat. Let your doggie friend also enjoy the whole deal. Wonderful!" FEATURES: - 5 minutes drive from Walkerville beach - 30 minutes from Wilsons Promontory - A 19th-century 4 poster giant KING bed (bigger than a king and taller than usual, imported from Holland, and found in Jakarta) - Japanese bath house with soak tub - Wood fired heater with generous wood supply included - Unique restored Oregon couch setting (imported from USA and found in Perth) - Broadband and WiFi - 1960's Oven and Stove - Large double fridge/freezer - Forest walk around the 5 acres bush land - 2 mountain bikes for guests to use (& helmets) - Roofed outdoor dog enclosure with kennel - 2 Dog beds for inside and outside - Dog chain and lead - Lawn bowls and cricket set - Hammock - Italian style stovetop coffee maker and French press (plunger) - BBQ -4 burne, quality cookware, wine glasses and essentials - Basic provisions like olive oil, spices, tea, coffee, Vegemite and Glad Wrap - The only dwelling on 5 acres. You cant see any other houses - Very private and secluded - Local info and tips sent on enquiry - Seamless process from enquiry to checkout - Pedantic and dedicated cleaner/caretaker - Ideal for couples, but can sleep 6 - Pets and children welcome WHAT IT DOES NOT HAVE There is no TV. Instead, it has a good selection of books and music (so our guests tell us). There are speakers in the bathhouse also. It has broadband, so you can take your computer and do some work if you feel like it. It has a hammock (which some people have even put up inside during inclement weather!). It does not have air conditioning. But it has a monster industrial fan (which is too big for the room and nearly blows you over, but it keeps you cool, and looks cool). It does not have an inside bathroom. You used to have to walk along the boardwalk to the bath house, but we have recently built a toilet just outside the front door. If you want to see the stars (they're definitely brighter than in Melbourne) you can still use the bath house, there is often wildlife around during the night. Stepping into the deep bath to bathe or shower would be a challenge for anyone with any mobility issues and problematic for anyone disabled. Linen is provided for the King 4-poster bed (as not everyone has King linen), but you will need to bring your own towels. If you are using the other 2 futons you will need to bring linen for these extra beds. We do provide tea towels as most people forget them (including us). The five acre fence is three wire farm fencing. It is not dog proof, and some of it has a low current to keep the livestock out. Most dogs stay around the house and there is a dog enclosure and kennel. PETS AND WILDLIFE The house was designed to highlight the bush views in all directions. So even if you are not outside, you can appreciate the wildlife, including wombats, koalas, echidnas, wallabies, blue tongue lizards in summer and frogs in winter. There is always bird-life around the property includes dazzling swallows and stunning black cockatoos. Keep the blinds up, to see the changing scenery, lighting and wildlife. We love and welcome pets! We have done what we can to make them comfortable with a dog stretcher for inside and out. We provide a chain and lead, and some dog toys and sometimes treats. We recently installed an outdoor enclosure. Its actually just a revamped avery. Its is approx 2m x 4m. It, has a roof & kennel with plenty of shade and breeze to keep pets comfortable and safe for a short time (i.e. if you are going to Wilson's Prom). AROUND THE LOCATION There is so much to do around the Walkerville/Cape Liptrap area. From beaches, to national parks, walking, cycling, wineries and Wilsons Prom. On booking we provide a 22 page "Things To Do" document. Liptrap Loft is not for everyone, but if you like character, charm and little surprises, there is every chance you will enjoy it like so many others have. If you have instagram, you can follow both our guests and our personal stays at @dufflebird_getaways
Your located in the green rolling hills of South Gippsland.
  • We absolutely loved our stay at the Liptrap loft, a perfect spot to enjoy nature and unwind from city life. We stayed with our two kids (2 and 5) who loved the big garden, the bathroom with a view and of course marshmallows on the wood fire. We would be very happy to come back some time.

    Stijn2020-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • The house & bathhouse are really beautiful spaces, perfectly styled to feel like we were in a super special place but also cosy enough to feel at home. We loved the open plan living, music to play over the amazing speakers, books to read and all of the hot tips for places to see and things to do. We didn't venture out to any cafes or stores, and really didn't need to. It was so nice lying out on the grass amongst the birds and wildlife, and being a short trip to the incredible beaches at Walkerville. Liftrap Loft is at the top of our recommendations to friends and family. Thank you for having us Fleur, we loved every minute of our mini holiday!

    Laura2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Wow. Liptrap loft is just so beautiful and the perfect place to unwind in comfort as close to nature as you get. We had the most lovely time! We will be back!

  • We had a delightful stay at Liptrap Loft. Watching the clouds glide across the moon whilst soaking in the bath was truly a highlight! We wanted to be somewhere quiet, private and a bit different to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and Liptrap Loft was just right. Beautiful Walkerville South beach is just a short drive away and South Gippsland is full of treasures. The communication from Fleur was prompt, helpful and easy. Thanks for a great stay!

  • A great place for a retreat

    Campbell2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Liptrap Loft felt like a home away from home. Everything we needed was there. We explored the area by car, spent our time surfing, hanging out at the beach, bush walking and relaxing/unwinding at the Loft.

    Kate2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was so lovely! From the incredibly stunning setting—both to the sea and the bush—our family of 5 loved every minute. Every day we went hiking in The Prom after cooking breakfast, walking the beach and feeding the beautiful galas and parrots that visit the verandah. We aren’t even bird people but we absolutely fell in love with them during our stay. Our three girls 9, 12, and 16 loved the bunk book in the living room, but bring some mozzie spray because they love that nook too. The beds were al comfortable and the linens and pillows were great as well. We cooked each night as well and found everything we needed to make proper meals in the well-equipped kitchen. We made tea at sunset and carried it back down to the beach and just took in the view. Walkerville seems to me a little-known gem for sure and we would be happy to come back and stay at Sue’s again and again! Every room but the bathroom has an exquisite view of the ocean and one just can’t get enough! Thx again Sue for sharing this little beauty with us!

  • Richard's house and location are the real deal, there is not another property/house like this one, I have been many places........this is special.

    'Sam2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Breathtaking views from an absolutely incredible house on the cliff top. Very remote and peaceful. We loved the house as much as the setting. Will definitely be coming back.

    Madeleine2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • This place needs to be seen to be believed. A perfect blend of wilderness, the trek up the driveway alone has you disconnecting from the world around you. We were mesmerized by the view from the moment we set foot inside. We hope to be back again.

    Irena2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, what an incredible experience! Absolutely in love with this home. I really would love to visit again, I am still in awe! Thank you for everything Richard!

  • great location, re house, views, fishing and serenity

    Geoffrey2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place has to be seen to be believed - the photos don’t do it justice! Rain, hail or shine (we had all types of weather) the view is stunning and the landscape breathtaking. Richard was very easy to deal with and incredibly prompt in replying to messages. Highly recommend staying here!

    Alex2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • If you need a larger place, just to get away, this is it. Richard is a great host.

    David2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Richard's place is like something out of a movie. From the amazing drive to the house, through to the incredible views over the ocean, it's just splendid. I can't tell you how long we all just stared at the view for. We rented the place for a family reunion/gathering and it was a great choice for two families with kids, especially as there is a separate games room, too.

Escape from the city and unwind in this warm and welcoming ‘home away from home’, situated between Inverloch and Venus Bay.
Blue Oaks is a three bedroom, lovingly built getaway sitting on five acres... away from the hustle and bustle. The property is in open country and the peace and quiet is what I love about it. On a still night you can hear the rumble of the waves - even though beaches are some distance away. The house overlooks a private lake on the dairy farm of the adjoining property, and you may even wake to be greeted by cows in the paddocks next door. There is also a dam on the property with a deck. You will love your stay and the tranquility... where nights can be spent sitting under the stars or by the log fire...
Blue Oaks is an easy ten minute drive to beautiful Inverloch, where you will find miles of beautiful clear beaches, eateries, country style bakeries, homewares stores and much more. Treat yourself to a hot rock massage at ‘Nuture’, enjoy a pub lunch at The Esplanade Hotel, or try your hand at fishing. The choice is yours. Blue Oaks is also close to the Koonwarra Farmers Market, Tarwin Lower Pub, Waratah Bay, Venus Bay, galleries, Gippsland food adventure tours, and numerous nature trails/parks.
  • Greg very easy to deal with. Beautiful location. Great set up at the house. Loved the farmland views.

    Fiona2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing modern barn-style house with impeccable views of South Gippsland’s famous rolling pastures. Greg was a great communicator and the place was spotless.

    Charles2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Greg’s place surpassed my expectations. Set in a beautiful backdrop of rolling hills, the house itself is light, clean, open and incredibly well equipped. I could see it being great at any time of the year. We had windows open which allowed for a really good cooling breeze to flow through the house, though I would love to return in the winter to make use of the big fireplace. Greg was quick to reply to any queries and made us feel at home. Honestly, I wouldn’t bother scrolling past this one.

    Rebekah2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Blue Oaks is at the end of a long driveway on a no through road. It is super peaceful with a nice view of a lake on the property next door. The house itself was perfect for our family of four (and our little dog!). It’s exactly as you imagine it when you look at the photos. We had to buy water during our stay due to ash contamination of the water tank. It’s worth checking whether this has been resolved before booking.

    Freyja2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful setting. Only a short drive to Inverloch

    Lorraine2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Really special and neat farm house with great view, close to the bay, small town and fishing points! All of my families enjoyed the time in here, especially having nice food with such a nice view! Had a wonderful holiday, thanks for Greg, very helpful, providing us a lot of useful information! Definitely recommend!

    Sean2019-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • The setting is so peaceful and relaxing with views over the surrounding farms. The house is cosy and comfortable and just a short drive to the beach/Inverloch. A perfect weekend away!

Tea Tree Hollow is a sensory experience. Cosseted by the surrounding environment & directly adjacent to a stretch of the most pristine and private coastline in Australia, it is a home to escape, to relax, to indulge. Check insta @ teatreehollow_au for updates
UPDATE : COVID-19 Unfortunately, with the outbreak of Covid-19, stage three restrictions on social distancing, and the goverments recommendation NOT to travel, we recommend booking your visit from June 2020 onwards. Though we have availability, any bookings and subsequent travel to our properties through this trying time are at the discretion of the travelling party. During this period, we have taken additional cleaning and hygeine precautions at the home in light of the outbreak, and continue to offer full refund to anyone affected by Covid-19 (directly or indirectly) Thanks, and stay safe. Dan & Co Tea Tree Hollow is a home to lose oneself. The house features an interior of natural materials, referencing the elements: Marble, Timber, Wool, Brass, Bronze. Materials are repeated many times throughout the home, creating a soft, soothing space, to truly relax and retreat. Furniture is soft and embracing, warm and cozy. Custom raw alpaca wool rugs soften the spaces, throws and skins adding depth. Exclusive artwork, selected specifically for the home, takes you to another place. A large sculpture, imported from Venice, rests in the architecture, reaching into the clerestory windows. A fully equipped kitchen & a host of our favourite cookbooks, will keep the budding chef entertained. Crisp tunes are provided by the powerful, wireless Bang & Olufsen music system. Carefully selected fragrances, essential oils, and candles will adapt the space to any situation, and an ever-changing collection of books on nature, design & architecture will while away the hours. A TV/DVD player and range of games should keep boredom at bay. Our latest addition has seen 40sqm of outdoor decking added to the yard, wrapping through the existing plantings. The bathing deck, reached via a floating boardwalk, features a unique privacy screen of timber off-cuts sourced from local yards. A true indulgence, our imported black stone bath, easily generous enough for two, is the ultimate for star gazers whilst our custom brass tap ware will provide a post surf shower. A locally produced stone outdoor table will suit those who like to dine alfresco, and loungers are provided to ensure your tan gets some attention. A native garden wraps the home, offering seclusion, and a lovely play of light as the afternoon sun hits the home. Tea Tree Hollow is a mature, sophisticated retreat, for those who desire quality and relaxation - a home to truly escape to
Walkerville is a small village, on the very edge of some beautiful coastline. However, it does not have shops, so best stock up at one of the major towns on your way through, the closest (and very well stocked) store, is IGA in Tarwin Lower - don’t miss their on site butcher...
  • This is truely one of the best Airbnb homes we have ever stayed in. The hosts have really put so much thought into creating the perfect getaway. A very stylish design and gorgeous soft furnishings. Dan gave us so many great ideas for days out, their home is situated near some beautiful walks and only a half hour drive from the stunning Wilson’s prom. We had thought we would go out for dinner whilst there but as the house is so relaxing, we decided to rather stay put and have a soak in the outdoor bath, followed by a bbq. We can’t wait to visit again soon. Thank you for a wonderful weekend away.

  • Expect to be spoilt rotten at My Cup of Tea. Stunning views to the Prom, sunrises from your bedroom window, the best stocked kitchen I’ve ever seen in a holiday rental, everything has been thought of to make our stay comfortable, and even our dogs felt well cared for!! Thank you for providing the perfect beach holiday

    Jacquie2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We love this place. Being that close to the ocean in such a remote beautiful spot is so special. My Cup of Tea is a special place that forces us to slow down and enjoy quality family time. It is wonderfully decorated, extremely comfortable and perfectly situated. We cant wait to come back (again!).

    Jess2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This home is exactly as described, and better. It is truly cosy and comfortable when the weather is cold, and a wonderful, open-plan, indoor/outdoor home when it’s hot. It is stylishly and thoughtfully decorated, and a step away from the beach, in idyllic bushland surrounds. Very quiet, as this area is not highly populated, yet within a short walk to a kiosk selling fish and chips, coffee, and other necessities. The beach has a boat ramp and is a lovely beach for children, with small waves for boogie boarding, rock pools, and rocks to climb over. We have stayed here two years running, with our family and young grandchildren, and it is a perfect summer holiday location.

    Cathy2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful little place. Perfect for a family getaway. The hosts were super thoughtful and left bird feed so we could feed the rosellas each day. The location was amazing and the view of the ocean could be seen from the decking. The beach could also be easily accessed from the little path on the side. Almost felt like you had a little private beach to yourself. The bathrooms were nice and clean and the kitchen was stocked with all your basic needs. All in all, it was a great experience and we’d recommend it to our friends.

    Jay2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place, beautiful house on the beach! It deliverers and would love to stay there again.

    Matthew2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay, in a wonderful unspoilt spot. Walkerville is beautiful as there are no shops and hardly any people. Just a stunning beach, walks and views. House has a lovely vibe - modern but connected to the roots of the classic beach house. Comfy with good amenities, wonderful views, birds in the garden and dog friendly. All in all it’s pretty perfect rental.

The frittata, eggs and clean and cosy shed are delightful, as well as friendly, affectionate Clyde the cat. Great value, privacy and some thoughful touches make this a standout airbnb :) Thanks so much Amy!

  • Peaceful secluded place to stay!!

    Yazmin2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Our family of 4 had a lovely stay here. Clyde the cat was a fantastic host and we enjoyed visits from chickens and a very friendly farm dog. The place was clean and comfortable with great access to beaches and towns like Fish Creek. The frittata was delicious and just what we needed after arriving and settling in.

    Narelle2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • What a little treasure we found! The two nights in the shed of Amy’s farm were fabulous. Quick communication, easy to check-in, a cozy and very clean space in the middle of a working farm. A frittata and a dozen eggs waited for us - very thoughtful. Plus a very friendly cat who was desperate for a good pat, very cute. Beds were comfortable, bathroom splendid, the kitchen had everything we needed. We were warned that mobile phone reception would not be great, which we did not mind at all and enjoyed the screen-free time. We played the board games provided and the peace and quiet. Observing the chickens outside the kitchen window was the best entertainment! Thanks again, we would highly recommend staying at this farm!

    Eveline2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my family had a fantastic time at Amy’s place. The farm is not too far from the amenities and great attractions. We loved our privacy at the shed. Clyde - the best cat ever was a great company. Amy and her family showed great hospitality. Absolutely loved the delicious frittata upon our arrival with a lovely handwritten welcome note. We would love to stay again.

Muir Lan (Gaelic for high tide) is nestled among natural bush only 50 metres from the beach, and offers a peaceful and relaxed environment with spectacular views.
Muir Lan is one of the original beach cottages built along Walkerville North beach. Constructed in 1956 by my grandparents, it was built as a holiday/retirement cottage. This is our happy place; peaceful, relaxed and we love to share it with like minded guests. Wake to the sound of surf and take in the breathtaking views of Waratah Bay and Wilson's Promontory while eating breakfast on the deck. For the more actively inclined, swim, paddle, boat, don snorkling gear and head for the rock pools, cast a fishing line, walk through the bushland observing the varied native wildlife, or soak in some history as you explore the limestone kilns set into the rugged coastline.
Walkerville is a very small community. Houses are on tank water and septic systems, and there is no rubbish collection. Guests should come prepared with all food and supplies as closest convenience shops and cafes are approx 20 min drive away in Tarwin Lower, Fish Creek and Sandy Point. There is a kiosk at the local caravan park, but it has limited hours of operation outside the main summer holiday period. Guests are also asked to please take all rubbish away with them. Walkerville Transfer Station on Fish Creek Walkerville Rd is open Wed and Sat mornings, and Mon, Sun and public holidays afternoons.

  • This is a lovely private getaway in a beautiful area of southern Victoria. It was windy and stormy throughout our stay but also periods of warmth and sunshine - we could make use of the upper deck and bbq during the good weather and curl up in front of the tv when it was storming. Easily accessible to shops and beach and a drive down the peninsula. Highly recommended.

  • A great experience. When you enter a house which feels like someone's living there it feels right. The most important aspect for us is a clean, functional house which is exactly what we got. Also the level of detail on instructions, response to queries made this a flawless weekend :)

Architect designed modern spacious home with all the comforts you need to enjoy a relaxing holiday. Large home which is ideal for two families with 3 toilets, 2 main queen bedrooms, 2 kids bedrooms and separate kids living upstairs space. But also intimate for a couple's weekend away with a large north facing master queen bedroom with balcony, walk in robe and ensuite.
This home we designed and built ourselves. We love this house and we hope you do to. Isley is a local architect with her own business and this house was one of her first projects in the area. It has four spacious bedrooms, with a balcony off each upstairs bedroom. There are two queen beds, a tri bunk and two single beds. The house has been designed to maximise comfort, with double glazing, thermal efficiency and modern comforts such as an entertainment system, BBQ, washing machine and fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher. Air conditioning and a wood fire makes the house perfect for both summer and winter holidays. Relaxing in the claw foot bath with candle light tops off the perfect winter retreat. The roof top deck is three stories up and provides a very unique coastal experience. Sit up there with your morning coffee and catch a glimpse of Waratah Bay change colour as the sun rises. Or at night with a glass of wine while gazing at the stars. It is also an ideal spot to meet the abundant birdlife that Walkerville has to offer. There are a number of separate indoor and outdoor spaces with plenty of room for kids to play. Including an upstairs rumpus room and a great cubby house for entertainment. Off street parking is available which includes enough room to store a boat.
Heaps to do!! From this beach house you can walk through the State Reserve forest down to the beaches of Walkerville North (20mins down the hill). Or it is a short drive to Walkerville South or Walkerville North boat ramp. There are numerous bush walks through the State Reserve forest some to lookouts over Waratah Bay, others access the beach. Other things to experience are Wilson’s Promontory, local wineries, breweries, and towns such as Fish Creek, Sandy Point, Waratah Bay, Foster and Inverloch.
  • We had the most beautiful weekend at Isley’s house. We were three couples and the house was perfect for us. The moment we arrived at the house, we all felt at home. It had everything we needed and much more. This is the second time we’ve been there and we hope to continue coming again and again. Thank you Isley for being a great host. We love your beach house!

  • Great house with fantastic amenities in a lovely location.

    Nicole2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • A very stylish house and fantastic for larger groups!

    Linh2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Isley and Jamie’s place is beautiful and great for groups of friends or big families. It is very well equipped and has everything you need for a getaway. We especially enjoyed the terrace and spacious rooms. We would definitely recommend it to others and would stay here again.

    Andrea2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time we stayed at Isley & Jamie’s beautiful house and hopefully it’s will not be the last. Even though we had mostly wintry weather, we had a lovely time playing cards and board games in front of the fire or reading on those big comfy couches. The house is extremely spacious and comfortable and has a good kitchen. I really appreciated the new oven. The house is very close to the beach which, even during peak season, is not terribly crowded. Wild life abound: I met my very first echidna! And there’s always a koala (with a baby this time) in the front garden’s gum tree. And if you want to see stars, go up to the top deck on a clear moonless night. We had a fantastic break. Thank you.

    Valda2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • The house is lovely and modern! Heaps of outside areas to hang around in and the roof top in particular. Great little play area for children also. Rocky beach nearby and Sandy Point is only 15 mins drive away- it’s beautiful there!!

    Amra2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding!

    Kellen2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Isley and Jamie's home is beautiful and very spacious - recommend for families and groups of 4-6 people. The location is good and we were able to experience a lot of the local attractions. Our main reason for staying in Walkerville was the proximity to the Prom, which was about a 40 minute drive away. We recommend bringing enough food for the duration of the stay as there aren't many supermarkets around that aren't a decent drive away, but there are some great pubs and restaurants in neighbouring towns that are worth a visit if you don't feel like cooking.

Set on 75 private acres with spectacular views of Wilson’s Promontory across the ocean, Shellback is a unique country property with a ‘hidden away’ feel. The surprisingly luxurious house is nestled away from the main road beyond a paddock, two dams and down a tree lined road-way. The house has its own fenced enclosure. Sheep or cattle are grazed by the neighbouring farmer, and are often seen quietly grazing in the paddocks surrounding the house.
“Like you, we especially loved the slowly changing seascape and the fantastic moods of the place…….Apricot sunrises, squalls sweeping in over the hill from the west, cloudbursts and glorious sunsets.” Ian Smyth 2017 The lower one third of the property the owners have dedicated to wildlife conservation. Several creeks meander through the bushland and walking tracks have been cut, so there is plenty of exploring to do without leaving the property. A map of the trails will be provided to guide your exploration. Wildlife It’s not unusual to see an array of wildlife in the bushland and rolling pastures around Shellback- Kangaroos and Wallabys often roam close by and Koalas, Possums, Wombats and Echidnas can be spotted too. The local Wedge-tailed Eagles are common visitors and are often seen hunting in pairs. There is always a myriad of birds including Galah’s, Cockatoo’s, Blue Wrens, Swallows and our favourite - Black Cockatoos. The House Recently renovated in 2015/16, the house has a fully renovated kitchen, new bathrooms, double glazed windows and a large deck. We’re sure you will find every comfort you want and need at Shellback. Things To Do Pack your wet weather gear and explore the grounds even if it is raining. Play bocce on the lawn, table tennis in the shed, play family board games on the floor, sit by the fire with a glass of red, sketch the rolling hills, read a book, spot wildlife through the binoculars or cook up a feast to eat on the expansive deck. Admire the changing scenery, stargaze after dark and enjoy the tranquillity, you wont see or even hear a car while on the property. Let the kids run wild in packs, making up imaginary games and exploring unsupervised. It is rare to find a place where there is no traffic to worry about. As adults we vividly remember those wonderful days of childhood freedom that kids rarely experience these days. Read the guest reviews for other activity suggestions. Amenities Internet and WiFi Fully self-contained house New kitchen 2016 - fully equipped, with dishwasher Front and back decks with outdoor settings BBQ Fully equipped laundry TV, DVD Cubby-house Cricket Set, Bocce, Table Tennis (The garage is set up as a games room) Great walks around the property Indoor wood fireplace, with plenty of wood supplied Clean, comfortable beds with quality pillows Dog safe fencing around the house, separating dogs from sheep and cows Children safe fencing to the pond
Beaches The closest beaches are Bear Gully and Walkerville South - a quick six minutes drive away. Walkerville is the location for the enchanting children’s book “Magic Beach” by renowned Australian children’s author Allison Lester. The beach is beautiful, offering sandy stretches, climbing rocks and rock pools. When you are there it’s easy to imagine how Allison dreamt up the magicial events in the book. Even in peak season it is rarely crowded. If seclusion is your thing, you can walk toward Bear Gully and usually find a beach all to yourself. There is awesome snorkeling around Arch Rock. Landscape The road to Cape Liptrap passes through some of the most beautiful, lush and undulating farm and bushland. About one third of the peninsula is National/Coastal Park, with farmland nestled within. Shellback is one of only a handful of country properties located on this peninsula. Rainfall in South Gippsland is higher than the rest of Victoria, so the landscape stays lush long after west and central Victoria has browned off. The green rolling hills of the peninsula stretch right out to the Cape, where steep cliffs drop off to the Bass Strait below. It is the second most southerly point of mainland Australia. Cape Liptrap juts out and picks up swell created miles out in the Southern Ocean, which crashes heavily on the cliffs below the lighthouse. It is a powerful place: Harshly beautiful.
  • Outstanding house, incredible property and views, so so comfortable, and not lacking any amenities. The hosts have a done such an incredible job creating a beautiful space to match the vista outside, and were superb in their communication, responsiveness, and consideration. We can’t thank them enough! You won’t be disappointed if you book, just don’t forget to bring a pair of binoculars!!

    Nick2020-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful house and location. Very quiet and out of the way spot, perfect for a family. My daughter loved playing in the cubby house. I arranged with the hosts to charge my electric car as well and they were very accomodating. I provided a summary of charges and paid upon completion of my stay. A 15 AMP plug was available in the shed. Thanks again - we'll be back!

    Chris2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Our family had a wonderful stay at Shellback. Great location - beautiful farm property, with sheep grazing in the paddock. Lots of space for a family to spread out and very well equipped with a full kitchen, bbq, kids cutlery and even a cubby house. Short drive to Walkerville beach and Bear Gully - two of the most special beaches in Victoria. Fleur is a wonderful host. Very responsive and lots of local tips. We will definitely be back!

    Andrea2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Shellback is the perfect place for a relaxing family holiday. The views of the sea and the surrounding countryside are ever changing and always beautiful. The house is clean, comfortable and well equipped. We would love to stay again sometime.

    Andreas2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for a comfy and cozy stay, Fleur! Our three nights at Shellback were delightful. Beautiful views - great bush walks - happy and relaxed times on the couches reading in front of the fire and listening to music - cooking up meals together in the very thoughtfully laid out kitchen. The space is so well laid out and much care has obviously been taken to make the time spent there comfortable and relaxing. The double glazed windows keep the place well insulated and peacefully serene. Great bird watching opportunities (wishing I’d had binoculars!) & walks within a short drive of the property. We all had a fantastic time! Highly recommend Shellback & we’d love to come stay again in the near future. I honestly can’t think of anything that could be improved.

We utilised many of the extra amenities Deb so generously made available to us, such as the bikes, daily which included a handy bike bump and lock, the BBQ, monopoly and the extra goodies in the fridge and pantry that was left for us :). • We found the unit very nice, spacious and clean. It was a great space and layout for my toddler and 6 month old. Also super close to the beach. Nice and easy, great value!

  • Fantastic location right by the beach and a quick walk into town. We loved exploring the area and our day trip to the prom. Accommodation is very comfortable, clean and check in easy. Deb was very responsive to communications and quickly sorted out a broken coffee machine for us. Thank you for a lovely stay, we hope to be back soon.

  • Great location and place. Some great little extras too like toys for kids, do tell, and tourist info. Also included linen which a lot of places in Overlong didn't seem to do. Really great stay.

    Aaron2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely clean unit, close to the water. The shortbread and breakfast supplies were well received! Wish we could've stayed more than one night.

    Rebecca2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Deb’s Beach Break is fabulous! We stay in Inverloch on the inlet side each summer and this unit is by far a stand out for our young family. Location is superb; walking distance to town and the inlet beach (so close). The unit is well equipped for your stay and is wonderfully clean. We were delighted by the little extra touches - lovely jams, English muffins and cereal! Easy access and has a garage through to a lovely courtyard. Can’t fault Beach Break. Thanks again Deb.

Walk to the beach, the shops and cafes, or listen to the waves as you relax on the large deck, enjoying the privacy behind trees and grapevines to do as you please. Warm up with the log fire at night, gaze at the Milky Way from the deck or enjoy one of many in-house board games for a laugh. This immaculately kept peaceful home, complete with large French style windows that allow the sun to stream in every morning, is close to everything you need and far away from the things you don't :)
Please no smoking inside but smoking outside is fine. Washing machine and dryer available!
Compared to many homes in Venus Bay, this home offers a unique sense of privacy when you are outside relaxing on the deck :) The neighbours are locals, they are absolutely gorgeous, very quiet and extremely respectful of your time there :)
  • A great house and very clean! Everything you need for a wonderful stay. Thank you Dee, the little touches were appreciated

    Brock2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay. As per previous reviews, the location is brilliant, 10 min from the beach, 5 min from the grocery shop, fish and chips, playground and pub. Now the property itself, was a surprise. We Airbnb a lot and we know that seaside houses are very hard to keep in shape. The wind, salt, sea, extreme heat etc... make from tricky conditions to keep a house clean and safe. Dee's house is clearly taken care off with pride. The terrasse and front was painted fresh, inside the house, you could have eaten on the floor, not a speck of dust anywhere including ceiling, wall corners and under the beds and furniture. The bathroom and kitchen were well equipped and spotless, not a bug in sight as well which again, in a beach house is a challenge. We would happily return, Dee was a kind and friendly host, checking on us regarding the bushfire smoke and our overall comfort.

    Anne2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely home, perfectly located within a stroll of shops and the best beach by far. Communication and check in was a breeze and we enjoyed a great stay. Thanks Dee.

    Sarah2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and proximity to beach and shops. Lovely deck to relax on, super private and quiet. Toys, puzzles and kids stuff that our toddler loved. Well stocked larder and kitchen equipment meant we self catered with ease. Super relaxing family holiday. Thanks Dee

    Catherine2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Dee was an amazing host and we loved her sanctuary by the beach. What a great location and a lovely house to stay in. There were so many great little touches: Christmas decorations, a bottle of wine, chocolates, and all the pantry favourites! We felt very cared for. The only minor improvement was the mattress which wasn't very comfortable and quite squeeky. But we had a great stay, thanks so much.

    Craig2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was perfect, clean and well equipped thanks Dee! We loved that the fire was lit upon arrival, we found a cozy warm house and the added touch of the chocolates was unexpected and a nice surprise!

  • We checked into Anne's place after a busy few days in Melbourne and a long drive. Immediately impressed with how neat and clean everything was. There was freshly baked bread, home-made jam and the most amazing cookies waiting for us in the kitchen. The apartment is small, but it has everything you could need for a comforable stay with lots of thoughful touches. The bed was the most comforatable bed I have ever slept in! I slept so well while staying at Anne's place. The garden is gorgeous, I enjoyed my morning cuppa watching the birds. I highly recommend Anne's place to anyone looking for a little slice of heaven in Leongatha :)

The Family Retreat at the Cape is a perfect house for a peaceful family getaway, providing a wonderful spot to explore South Gippsland's Cape Liptrap and Walkerville coastal region. Originally a fishing shack, we've refurbished the space to create a bright and airy house designed to comfortably sleep two families, or up to 8 adults. With private access, and a large grassy yard, the house is perfectly suited to those looking for some peace and quiet in a private rural setting.
The house has a deck that opens right around the house to enjoy both the morning and afternoon sun. Views extend into surrounding bush and paddocks with a glimpse of the ocean through the Melaleucas. A swamp wallaby is a regular visitor as are the kookaburras, black cockatoos and wombats. The house is complete with everything a family or two needs for a quiet weekend or as a base for exploring during school holidays.
The house provides a great base to explore the local area, including Walkerville, Venus Bay, Fish Creek, Meeniyan, Waratah Bay, Sandy Point and Cape Liptrap Coastal Park and Wilsons Prom. The South Gippsland Wine Trail provides some fantastic wineries and breweries to visit, and there are several country pubs nearby, including Fish Creek (25 mins). Nearby patrolled beaches include Venus Bay (25 mins) and Inverloch. Walkerville South (15mins) is a calm beach perfect for kids with an amazing view straight to the prom. The Cape Liptrap Coastal Trail provides excellent walks with striking scenery and beaches.
  • The house was charming and very clean with all the basic amenities you need, located in an idyllic farm setting. I stayed with family and we really enjoyed exploring the cove at Walkerville South Beach (only a 15 min drive from the house) and sitting by the fireplace at night.

  • We had a lovely stay at Tarwin Lower. Sigrid was so warm & friendly. The house was clean & comfortable with all basic kitchen supplies & much more. There is a lovely playroom which gives additional space for families. The house is 15mins to Walkerville Sth beach which is great for swimming & from there you can walk to Walkerville Nth to find sea shells & rock pools. There is a great IGA in Tarwin & the kiosk at Walky Nth has all basic supplies. We had a lovely walk one evening to chat to the cows & watch the many butterflies that seem to dance around the property. If you want a true getaway & to feel properly relaxed then this is a great place to stay. We’ll be back! Thanks to Jessica & Sigrid for great hospitality!

  • We came with family from overseas and used the cottage as a base to explore Wilson’s Prom. The house is great and much roomier than on the photos. That little sunroom with toys was the highlight for my 18 months old niece. The kitchen is well equipped and we cooked a delicious and festive meal for our celebration. Overall, we had a beautiful time celebrating NYE with the family. Thank you!

    Sauyeng2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The house was clean and spacious and the surroundings very peaceful and quiet. We saw some beautiful birds in the garden. Kitchen has everything you need. Communication with the host was very easy. The kids loved the toys in the playroom. To get to the house you have to drive on a dirt road for about 6km. And it’s probably 30 min drive to the nearest shops. We went to Wilsons Promotory twice, it’s about an hour drive but on the way the surrounding was beautiful and Wilsons Promontory is definitely worth the drive. Would definitely recommend it to other people.

    Tirza2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful relaxing atmosphere. The kids loved running around and watching the cows. If you want some serenity and peace and away from city life, this is perfect.

    Prahala2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay. I read a review that someone thought it to be a special place, and it’s true. We stayed a week to get away from the city and give ourselves a mini health retreat. So lovely to do yoga under the trees by the side of the house, or on the porch, and also be so close to some beautiful areas of nature. The wildlife that we saw on a daily basis added to the magic. Looking forward to staying there again.

Cosy and charming best describe Lavender Cottage - the ideal place for a relaxing holiday - with or without kids or furry friend in tow. Its beautiful native garden opens to a walking track over the stunning sand dunes to Venus Bay's patrolled beach. It has room for 6 in two bedrooms and, while off the beaten track, is within easy access to Venus Bay's shops.
Our beloved Lavender Cottage has an open-plan living area with a oh-so-cosy wood heater for chilly nights (think hot chocolate, warm blanket and a good book...) and reverse cycle air-conditioning for those gorgeous but hot summer days. Throughout the cottage you will find beautiful polished Jarrah floors and large windows allowing you to enjoy the tranquil, lush native garden from the comfort of your bed as well as the two cosy sofas (watch the birds, the trees, day dream...).
What to do ᾧ Walk to the beach via Lavender Cottage’s own access path – simply follow the shells in the trees (though note that this is an adventurous 15 minute activity not necessarily suitable for young people or people with limited fitness) ᾧ Grab your boogie board and let yourself be carried away at patrolled Number One beach ᾧ Sit in Lavender Cottage’s lush native garden, listen to, and watch, the abundant bird life ᾧ Have a jump on the trampoline or check out our giant dolls house; read a book, play a board game or watch a DVD by the fire place ᾧ Visit the boat ramp in the 3rd estate, go fishing, play on the playground or simply admire the sun set ᾧ Get a new hair do ᾧ Enjoy the numerous out of town attractions/activities, including visiting the Inverloch Bunurong Environment Centre (27 km) to walk in the steps of dinosaurs, going on a tour of the Wonthaggi coal mine (38km), driving along the stunning Bunurong C oastal Drive marvelling at its rugged sandstone cliffs and sandy coves or visiting the iconic Wilsons Promontory (80km).
  • Incredible house! So adorable with the most wonderful garden. Particularly good if you’ve got a dog. Highly recommend

  • If you want to stay somewhere that feels like home mixed in with a mini-art gallery and nostalgia, then this is it. It has everything that says 'relax' - games, books, magazines, movies, wildlife, outdoor seating, shade - as well as everything that says 'special' - art, flair, uniqueness, attention to detail, cosiness. You can even bring your furry friend to your holiday and enjoy it together. Recommend it, especially for families, and especially for families of young children - they will not get bored, I promise.

    Naomi2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. Cute space, great selection of tea's, fun walking track to get to the beach and super cosy.

  • Lavender cottage is the perfect family get away. There's a most incredible kids' retreat built in the backyard and a secret trail from the back of the property through the bush and to the beach. Inside there is an abundance of toys, books, and DVDs to keep you entertained. It was dog friendly and all fenced off, with many undercover areas for our dog to go if it rained when we visited Wilson's prom. The outdoor seating and table looked ideal for a Summer BBQ as well. We will definitely be back!

    Amelia2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Nadja (and Noel) for you wonderful hospitality. I have not only recommended you and the house, but will be coming back again. Noel was wonderful - I had to go to the doctor in the morning as my back had seized up, and then I had a flat tyre on the way back and Noel was wonderful. He offered help and I was so impressed with how kind he was. Your house is beautiful Nadja, the different teas were a really lovely touch and my children, doggy, husband and I all enjoyed the hike to the lookout at the top of the backyard. It’s a hidden gem which I adored. My girls were so excited! Thank you - I can’t recommend you enough xo

  • This house is the perfect base for small families or couples visiting Venus Bay. Inside is very clean, with plenty of chairs to relax inside. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of crockery, cutlery, microwave, coffee machine, kettle and toaster, stove and oven, also plastic bowls etc for little ones. The undercover area has bikes and seating for kids and plenty of adult seating, a bbq, dartboard and gas heater. We didn't use the washing machine or trough (handy for families) which is located with the shower, basin and toilet. Christopher was very nice and helpful before and when we checked in and replied quickly to messages and phone calls. The house itself is has nice views and the street is very quiet. A highly recommended property, I would definitely stay here again.

  • We had a lovely week at Craig’s house. The weather wasn’t the best but the games room and the many boardgames kept the kids very happy on the rainy days. It was clean and comfortable with all that you need. Only a short walk to the shops and morning coffee. Would definitely recommend. Thanks Craig

    Jessica2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Craig’s place is the perfect place to get away from it all while having everything you need. Our two kids loved the downstairs area where they could kick back with the PlayStation, as well as loving the upstairs collection of games and puzzles. The kitchen table was big enough for us to eat as a family of four as well as being home to the 500 piece jigsaw (yes all the pieces were there). The house has everything and more you could possibly need for some relaxing time away. Local beach is great and the general store is only a short stroll away. Can not recommend Craig’s place enough.

A beautiful coastal retreat, located within The Cape Ecovillage this 3 bedroom home is a short walk through the community gardens to the popular surf beaches and Cape Tavern. Spend afternoons by the water exploring the rock pools, the nearby countryside, coastal walks or just in the backyard enjoying the peace and quite. This 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home is split over two levels, providing the perfect space for a couple or a family/friends getaway. Architecturally designed and a sustainable home.
The region is full of great wineries, rugged coastlines and amazing produce. The home is a sustainably built home so it is super comfy with minimal requirement for heating and cooling, only 700m from the beach. There is a bunch of board games in the cupboard, a fire pit outside and loads of beautiful coastline to explore. Come and experience a touch of luxury by the coast. We also have a sister home in The Cape, called the 10 Star Home, also built by The Sociable Weaver and if you have a larger group is perfect to book alongside The Bungalow. It's only 1 street Away! You can check it out here: https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/30797030?source_impression_id=p3_1563339629_PSJx5vQb%2F1FtSmAk
The Cape Tavern is the local pub which has great food and drinks, usually doing live music on the weekends. There is also a local general store for your basic supplies and a fish and chip shop. Nearby is the town of Wonthaggi, only a 5 minute drive up the road which has every supply you will need for the stay. Stop by at Goshen Country on the way which is a beautiful farm gate selling their own grown produce. Inverloch is another trendy town nearby which has a couple of local pubs, wineries, cafes and great shopping. Cape Paterson has a number of amazing beaches to suit everyone. There is a main surf beach with lifeguards patrolling, along with a smaller bay beach filled with amazing rock pools to explore. Cape seconds is the closest beach, perfect for the more experienced surfer or swimmer, or to watch the most incredible sunsets in the sand dunes.
  • From the moment we arrived we were blown away by the amazing architecture of this beautiful house! There were so many things we liked about this place, it was completely stunning inside and out! The open planned kitchen/ dinning & lounge has a north facing aspect with plenty of windows which let in so much natural light and sunshine to keep the house warm. It was so nice to sit at the table looking out over the farmland at the rear with a cool breeze coming through the sliding doors. The fit out is top notch with Miele appliances and amazing gold trim on the tap ware. (even gold cutlery) The bathrooms were also very stylish with dark grey tiles and a massive shower head with a timber floor which I thought was a nice touch. The other thing that we loved was how quiet it was which allowed us to have great sleeps in the super comfortable beds. . This has been the most beautiful Airbnb experience! Thanks so much Reece & Steph, we will definitely be back!

  • Nice place that's only a short drive to Inverloch and Wonthaggi. Some nice paths to walk on in the Cape precinct. Maybe not close enough to water to walk to beach if you have kids and surf beaches nearby probably not ideal for kids either, but Inverloch shack bay rock pools are only 5 minutes drive away and good for toddlers/infants

  • Lovely, light and bright Scandi styled, eco house. Bathrooms are absolute show stoppers. The ammenities such shower wash, shampoo and conditioner were appreciated. TV, wifi and Netflix was an absolute highlight after a day at the beach. Beautiful living (great couch!) and kitchen space. Perhaps a few more cooking implements such as baking trays, fry pans etc would come in handy. Great for a family holiday. So cool on a hot Summer’s day. Reece is lovely to deal with and quick to respond. Thanks for having us!

Small cottage by the river in a quiet town. Good location for exploring , walks, fishing and the beach. The house is well equipped for a base to do more exploring

  • Had a great time here. Sat on the veranda for Sunday arvo and just chilled- great place to do it. Lots of space, there were just 2 of us, but fits a lot more.

  • Second time we’ve stayed with Kym and Sally. Couldn’t recommend them and their hospitality enough.

  • We enjoyed our stay here despite the cold and rainy weather. It was a nice quiet little town on the river, and handy that it had a supermarket. It was also conveniently located being close to Venus bay (5mins) and fish creek (20mins). Lots of people were doing a river walk/cycle to Venus bay when the weather eventually cleared up. The house was everything we needed- it had heating and lots of utensils and staples to use for cooking. Our dogs loved being able to run all around the yard.
