Karen and Greg are wonderful! They're very kind, friendly, helpful and insightful about everything to experience in Hakuba. The lodge is incredibly comfortable, peaceful and quiet, yet close to everything one would need. Ski shuttle stop is just a few steps away. We will definitely be back, mainly because of the fantastic hosts! I highly recommend!!

Yuu-san welcomed me for the New Years holidays even though I made a reservation in the last moment. He and his family are very kind and welcoming. I enjoyed exploring the traditional New Year's meals and the musical selection every morning :) This artistic home is in a peaceful countryside area and great if you need to disconnect and find your creativity. Thank you for your hospitality!

Asuka Lodge: Triple room with breakfast

SarahRating, 5 stars3 months ago
Excellent location and the rooms were clean and cosy. The bed was very comfortable which we were happy with as we all slept very well. There is only one shower if you don’t want to use the Onsen however we never had an issue with this or had to wait. They also accommodated our dietary requirements for breakfast 😊
A serene sleeping area features a spacious bed with crisp white linens, complemented by wooden accents and tatami flooring. Soft natural light filters in through a nearby window, illuminating the calming green wall and simple bedside table.

Tanuki Nozawa Superior Family Room (203)

AndyRating, 5 stars101 months ago
Yumi and Brad have turned a tired hotel into a great little place that offers Western style service while maintaining the charm of small mountain village family inn. Room was Japanese style with a big queen size bed. Could easily sleep 5 people making the value very good. Breakfast was simple but filling. Great little bar downstairs with live music 3 nights a week. The best part of Yumi's place is the location. Right smack in the center of town. Not a lot to do, but it's a great place for a few days. Oh. And the skiing is world class! Just a short walk to the people mover and the hill is yours. Hit the hot spring baths around town after a ski and you will know why Japan is so magical! I'll be back!

Nozawa Onsen Nagano Lodge SoraNozawa2

JuneRating, 5 stars4 months ago
Loved our stay! Super warm, cosy, and homey with a great location – close to the ski lifts and gondolas, which made waddling up in our boots much much easier; and close to the main street, which was very convenient for dinner and shopping. Leo and Linda were so hospitable and welcomed us warmly. Felt like we were greeted by old friends :') Big thank you to Ellie and Cam as well for hosting us at the lodge, and for the great breakfasts! All in all, we left with full hearts and new friends.

Togari ski slope, meals included 2

ConradRating, 5 stars3 months ago
Michiko and Miho's place is wonderful. it's essentially a snowboarding hostel run by the family, and has all the charm you could ask for. every breakfast and dinner is prepared, and is AMAZING. everyone gathers in the cafeteria, and after all the guests are fed, the family and staff all eat together. it all feels extremely genuine and unique, especially because it's primarily Japanese guests who stay there. they even provided rental gear, and arranged a ride to nozawa with a resident snowboarding instructor. I'd recommend this stay to anyone looking for a unique and wholesome excursion out of the major cities.
A cozy guest room features two single beds positioned on a raised wooden platform, draped in white linens. Natural light filters through a window adorned with simple curtains. Hangers are provided on a nearby wall, contributing to the room's functionality.

Chalet - 2 Futon beds - Share bathroom

I felt so lucky to have booked a room at Ado’s place. He was available at all time to assist and went above and beyond to help me after I had a bad injury on the 2nd day of my ski trip. He helped me move around, stay an extra night and also helped me get to my bus stop with all my luggage. I’d 100% stay here again knowing the service level.
A well-lit room features a spacious bed with decorative pillows and a neatly rolled towel. A warm glow emanates from a bedside lamp. A window framed by dark curtains offers a view of the snowy landscape outside, enhancing the room's peaceful ambiance.

Cozy B&B Aitoku in Nozawaonsen-Jeremy-san

We can’t thank Miho and her family enough for such a special, comfortable stay in Nozawa Onsen. Firstly, the location is incredible: an easy walk to the nearest chairlift, ski rentals, cafes, restaurants, and public onsen. The traditional room we stayed in was cosy and warm, as with the rest of the house that truly felt like a home away from home. The most memorable aspect of our stay though was the hospitality of the whole family. The cooked japanese breakfasts each day were delicious! The family were always happy to chat and answer questions. We sincerely appreciate learning about their family history, religion, and overall Japanese culture 🥰 They have made our trip to Nozawa onsen so special, and we will definitely be back!!

Deluxe large double or twin room ( ensuite )

BrookeRating, 5 stars6 months ago
What an amazing stay at Aibiya! We only had 3 nights in Nagano and decided to stay at Yudanaka so we would have quick and easy access to the snow monkey park and the snow fields. Aibiya was the perfect place for our little family with kids aged 8 and 6, an easy walk to the train and bus station. Right from the time of booking, communication was first class. Seongmi and Yoshi offered heaps of suggestions and advice on visiting the region as well as tips for making it a safer trip. Upon arrival, Yoshi made the check-in process very easy, had lots of tips for dining and even booked us a private rooftop onsen at a nearby hotel. The guest house is a beautiful traditional Japanese hotel which immediately felt like home. Our room was spacious and the shared areas were clean and tidy with plenty of books, games and origami for the kids. By far the best thing about our stay were Seongmi and Yoshi, the most welcoming, warm and helpful hosts. We look forward to staying with them again!

Aibiya Superior room with shared facilities

Aibiya was a lovely place to stay for our few days in Yudanaka! The hosts are very kind and provided many recommendations for the local area, including restaurants, shops, and bars. The onsen passes that you can purchase from the hosts are great since you aren’t staying at a ryokan. Highly recommend!

Upper duplex 4bedroom for 10 beautifully renovated

MichaelRating, 5 stars5 months ago
This is the second year in a row that we've stayed with Rika and Greg. We came back because we knew it would be a wonderful weekend. Location is very close to Ishiuchi ski resort and a short drive from Echigo Yazawa station. There's a really nice onsen just down the street from the house. Rika/Greg have great recommendations for delicious restaurants nearby. The house fits two large groups comfortably with a big common area, nice kitchen, drying room, and a bathroom facility that works well for large groups. To me, that's all I can hope for in an Airbnb. What makes this place the best in Japan is Greg and Rika. They make you feel like family. Always good recommendations, always good stories, and always happy to help. Really looking forward to continuing our annual Ishiuchi tradition and see Rika and Greg next year.

Honestly, such an amazing and warm place. The authenticity is so strong. Seeing the history of the family and the connection to the sports is a delight. The calmness of the region was very mindful and we loved the host. Such a nice family, very kind and just perfect. Thank you for the stay.
