Locals call it the "glass house,” because its lake-side walls are almost entirely made of glass. The home features a large open floor plan that seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor living spaces, complete with indoor and outdoor fireplaces. There are three bedrooms, with 2 master suites, and each bedroom faces the lake. It also boasts a bunk area that sleeps 4. This region of Western North Carolina has a little something for everyone, with activities that will appeal to the adventurous, from white water rafting at the Nantahala Outdoor Center to great hiking trails in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Mateos (named after our architect’s little son) are 4 small and separate bungalows with eye-popping views of Lake Nantahala and the Smoky Mountains through an 8-foot sliding glass door. Each Mateo has a queen size bed, private bath, ac/heat, and a kitchenette with a Keurig coffeemaker, 4.4 cu. ft. refrigerator with freezer, air fryer, microwave, tableware, and glassware for two people. The Mateos are not handicap-accessible. Pets are never allowed – 39D is a pet-free space ($200 penalty).
