Cottage in Kimswerd

"De Gulle splendor" Vacation home, Friesland

Our cozy vacation cottage, originally was an old stable that we (Caroline and Jan) converted together, with lots of love and respect for the old details and materials, into this "Gulle Pracht". Through a private driveway with parking, you reach the terrace with the spacious garden, a lawn with surrounding tall trees, where you can enjoy. Through the two French doors, you step into the bright and cozy living room with the white old beams and a fully equipped open kitchen. There is wireless internet available, TV and DVD. Because of the ceiling in the living room that has been removed, beautiful light falls in from the skylights and you have a view of the roof structure with the old round hoods. The beds are located on top of the two lofts. The comfortable double bed is accessed by an open staircase. The other loft, where a third or fourth bed can possibly be made, is only accessible by flexible guests via a ladder. It is not suitable for small children because of the danger of falling, but older children find it exciting to sleep there. Please note, the two lofts share the same large open space. Under the old beams, you can sleep peacefully, where only the sound of rustling trees, whistling birds or your deliciously snoring bedmate will be heard. The room is heated by central heating, but also only the wood-fired stove can heat the cottage comfortably. You will be provided with enough wood from us to start a cozy fire. Through an old stable door in the living room, you come to the bathroom with beamed ceiling and underfloor heating. The bathroom has a good shower, double sink and toilet. With its inlaid mosaics and all kinds of funny and old details, this space is also a feast for the eyes. There are two bicycles available for nice trips in the wider area (Harlingen, Franeker Bolsward). We may want to drop you off in Harlingen for a crossing to Terschelling. You can leave the car in our yard for a while. We, ourselves, live in the farmhouse which is in the same yard. We are available for help, information and advice for fun trips in our beautiful Friesland. Your cottage and our farmhouse are separated by our garden and the big old barn (with pool table), so we both have our own space and privacy. Kimswerd , located on the eleven city route is a small, quiet and beautiful village where our Frisian hero " de Grutte Pier" was born and lived. He still watches over us, in petrified form, at the beginning of our little street, next to the centuries-old Church, which is very much worth visiting as well. You can do your shopping in Harlingen, the supermarket is a fifteen minute bike ride away. The old port of Harlingen is 10 km from our cottage. Kimswerd is located just across the Afsluitdijk. From there, follow the signs N31 Harlingen/ Leeuwarden/Zurich and take the first exit at Kimswerd, 1st right at the traffic circle, 1st right again at the next traffic circle, straight ahead at the intersection, across the bridge and immediately take the first left (Jan Timmerstraat). At the beginning of this street, next to the church, stands the statue of the Grutte Pier. We live in the farmhouse behind the church, Jan Timmerstraat 6, first wide gravel path on the right. - For small children, sleeping on the loft without a fence is not advisable because of the danger of falling. It's just fun for big kids, the loft is accessible by a ladder. Please note, it is above 1 large open space with no privacy.

The house where the farmer used to live with his family has been converted into a comfortable apartment with a spacious living room and open kitchen downstairs, overlooking the meadows and the park of Wanswert. The apartment is in personal style and fully furnished. Where possible, we used second chance furniture. Together with the piano and comfortable wood-burning stove, a nice living climate is created. The apartment has its own private garden all around, its own front door and lots of privacy.

Here in quiet Frisian Rohel you can really be outside, feel the wind in your hair and the sun on your skin. Cycling and hiking along the meadows and (cold) swimming in the Tjeukemeer. Drink a glass of wine on the terrace on the water, with the view of infinity, under the old fruit trees in the garden. Apart from the sounds of birds, the rustling of the wind and in the distance a tractor, you don't hear anything at all here. The sunsets can be amazingly beautiful here.

The only thing we didn't like was that a camera was pointing at the apartment door. You feel like you're being watched. But otherwise everything is great, we would love to stay there again.

I had the pleasure of staying here for 2 months. The apartment is beautiful, large, and modern. The apartment is much larger than I expected and had every amenity one could think of. The location is perfect! It is in a great area and a few 100 meters from the centre and restaurants. The hosting was friendly and welcoming, with all our needs attended too. i can highly recommend it!

Such a nice, peaceful and cosy place! We stayed here to discover the Lauwersmeer with its variety of birds. It was lovely to start the day peaceful and end it cosy at Hans-Eriks place. Definitely would recommend! Would love to come back in a different season as well.

We had a wonderful week. The house has all the comforts, including a very nice kitchen. Also nice was the sun in the front garden, where we could have breakfast quietly. The location is nice and quiet, so we were able to sleep really well. In the area we enjoyed the nature, the tranquility and the friendly people. The reception was warm and personal, even our dog Bettie received a warm welcome. All in all recommended, we will definitely come back. Finally, I would like to mention Dokkum, a very nice town with special shops and good restaurants. Thank you Coen and Anne (and Marianne) for this beautiful, wonderful week. The best neighborhood , a minute walk from downtown and a place that feels just like home! Timnette and her husband welcomed us to their beautiful home and very lovely people . We checked in early because we arrived early but enjoyed the walk straight after in the area. Plenty of restaurants around , supermarket is 5 minutes walking and home was fully equipped with everything. I wish we stayed for longer it was th perfect holiday home. The apartment Zwaluw has a very nice view from the large balcony. Hosts were very accommodating, friendly, concerned about our well-being and warm. For longer stays, bed linens and towels were exchanged and residual waste disposed of. Thus highly recommended. Gladly again, best regards, Sabine and Andreas.

Petra’s apartment is absolutely beautiful and we could not have been happier. The location is in a quiet, leafy street a short walk away from the centre of Groningen and there is a small supermarket just round the corner, along with a great bar. Petra is a very efficient and communicative host and provided all the information required for a smooth check-in etc… I should also add the apartment is absolutely spotless with a lovely garden view from the sitting/dining room. We could not have been happier with our choice.
