　The stylish space created by renovating an old house is chic and somewhat nostalgic. It is located in a quiet place close to the Shiga Prefectural Government Office, with Lake Biwa stretching out before you if you take a short walk. In the spacious area where the walls and sliding doors have been removed, family and friends can gather comfortably for the first time in a long time. There are also quiet corners here and there where you can reflect on yourself in front of the earthen walls and the garden, a little away from the hustle and bustle of the crowd. 　The house was built by the grandparents in collaboration with the carpenter of the time, and the granddaughters, who became architects, joined forces with the current carpenters to breathe new life into it. While discussing the interesting aspects of ideal versus reality, rationality versus waste, and while consulting with the fund, we carefully revived the old. I think you can feel this spirit in the mismatched tableware that is still usable and the seat cushions of different thicknesses. The objects speak to us, telling us that they were made without any fuss. 　There is also a tiled indoor bath, but there is a public bath with a sauna nearby. The small coffee stand at the entrance serves breakfast and lunch from 10:00 to 15:00 on weekdays (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday). Guests staying at the inn can also use it.

Sugie is a simple lodging (licensed as a hotel) in a spacious old house surrounded by the beautiful Lake Biwa Canal, a Meiji-era legacy, and is conveniently located 30 minutes from Kyoto Station and 35 minutes from Keihan Sanjo. My grandparents were wealthy merchants who used the above-mentioned Soso (inclined canal) to transport white sand, gravel, granite for gate pillars, etc. to the shrines and temples of Kyoto in wooden boats from the early Showa period.
