Family-friendly vacation rentals in Japan

Wonderful Japanese home in an excellent, convenient location. Train station, old town and restaurants are all a short walk. We loved experiencing a Japanese home. The Host Makoto-Ya was proactive, responsive, extremely helpful making restaurant reservations (which can be difficult with a language barrier) and kind. The bedding was comfortable and having a clothes washing machine during our trip was very convenient. We highly recommend Makotoya Tenman.

La maison de Kan est située dans un quartier extrêmement calme (peut-être trop calme pour certains). L’endroit est chaleureux, très intime, bien loin de l’ameublement stéréotypé auquel on est habitué sur Airbnb. La tiny house de Kan est astucieusement aménagée, accueillant deux personnes dans de très bonnes conditions. Attention toutefois aux visiteurs les plus âgés, l’escalier est assez abrupt et l’accès à la baignoire assez difficile. Kan a été très attentif à notre bien-être. Nos quatre nuits dans sa maison ont été très paisibles et nous recommandons évidemment son logement. Merci pour tout !

Chie & Chris's place is located in a tiny, very quiet alley in the heart of Gion. There are several temples & shrines located within walking distance, & we found incredible restaurants nearby. They gave us clear instructions on what to tell the cab driver to get there, & self check-in was easy. The accomodations were pristinely clean. The master bedroom with a large Western style bed is upstairs, & the steps are steep which was no issue for us at all but might be for elderly, injured, or handicapped folks. My 6'5" husband had to be careful to duck under door frames because of his height but staying in a historic machiya was worth the small effort. Our 14-year-old son slept on a futon on the main level & loved it. Communication was excellent, & they gave us numerous recommendations for restaurants. There is a Lawson konbini & a grocery store close by, as well as a quaint bar across the alley. We loved being within walking distance of the action coupled with the quietness of the night.

I honestly don’t know where to begin. Staying in Keiko’s home was truly one of the greatest honors of our time in Japan—it was a highlight of the entire trip. From the moment we walked through her door, we were immersed in Japanese culture. Keiko greeted us with warmth and kindness, making us feel immediately at home. She patiently guided us through everything, showing us how to use her space with care and respect. Her home is a reflection of her spirit—graceful, serene, and full of beauty. I was deeply moved and inspired by her presence and generosity. Being invited to take part in her traditional Japanese tea ceremony was an experience I will never forget. She took the time to teach us the rituals and meaning behind each step, explaining everything with such clarity and heart. She dressed us in beautiful kimonos, carefully helping us put them on the correct way. Drinking matcha that was pure and fresh—words fail me. It was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. Kureishi und sein Airbnb sind was ganz aussergewöhnliches! Vom Anfang an als er auf uns bei der Anlegestation der Fähre mit einem selbst Gemahlenen Schild auf uns wartete, bis hin uns die Inseln zu erklären und uns zurück zufahren um sich persönlich zu verabschieden. Die Unterkunft ist genau wie auf den Bildern, nur zeigen die Bilder nicht die wunderbaren Atmosphäre die das kleine Haus / Unterkunft hat! Morgens gab es frühstück und am Nachmittag wurde sogar der Müll rausgebracht und frische Handtücher gebracht. Das Airbnb und vor allem Kureishi zu verlassen war so als ob man einen alten Bekannten verlässt den man gerade gelernt hat zu mögen und eigentlich nicht gehen will! Wir planen bereits unsere wiederkehrenden Trip zu dieser wunderschönen Unterkunft und dem warmen und empfangen lächeln von Kureishi!

By far our favourite accommodation in Kyoto and Japan. We felt right at home in this stunning traditional style house. We were welcomed with a beautiful tea set and treats laid out on the Chabudai. The music playing on our arrival added to the serene atmosphere. The bath was so relaxing and the bath salts made it perfect to soak after a long day exploring Kyoto. Would highly recommend this accommodation for couples or adult families. We managed the stairs to the second level easily.

One of the most amazing and unique experiences! The hut is very secluded - you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere living in a gorgeous traditional Japanese house by a river. The kids loved looking for crabs, watching the insects, cooking by the irori and taking an outdoor firewood-heated bath. The road there is narrow and unsealed in parts so would recommend arriving during the day. Bring all your food with you for self-catering in the well-equipped kitchen.

This house is lovely awesome and perfectly clean. Our stay was wonderful and more worth the price. The private onsen inside the tiny Japanese garden is beautiful. The location is very quiet, near the river and less 5 minutes by walk from the station and konbini. Everything you need is provided inside the house, so you don’t have to worry about

We had a great stay, it was very spacious which was great for us as we had our baby with us. Kotaro is a friendly, thoughtful and helpful host.

Sauber und gut erreichbar

We stayed at Toshie’s designer house for 4 nights. The architecturally fantastic home is in a quiet neighbourhood a short busride from Gakuenmae station, with quick train access to Nara, Kyoto and Osaka. Toshie picked us up from the station, which was appreciated as it might have been tricky to find the house ourselves. She gave us instructions for local transport and amenities within walking distance. Toshie is an exceptional host who is genuinely interested in her guests making sure they have an enjoyable stay. During our visit we needed medical attention and Toshie was extremely helpful with taking us to the hospital and pharmacy. We felt very safe having her as a translator. One night we were able to join Toshie and her husband for dinner and also met their daughter who has a ceramics studio in the house. Thank you Toshie for your hospitality, kindness and generosity. We had an absolutely wonderful time. I highly recommend this house for a unique base to explore the Nara area.

Première expérience dans une maison traditionnelle japonaise et j'ai adoré. L'emplacement est idéal, proche de la plage et des commerces à proximité. Kensuke est très sympathique.

Yamano was a great host. Everything was as described and he was very helpful and responsive before and during our trip. Our family of 5 adults felt very comfortable in this property. There was a bus stop nearby as well as a few different train stations within walking distance. There was a convenience store nearby to get supplies. The location was nearby Arashiyama attractions, but in a quiet neighborhood area that felt more like home. If we ever end up headed their way again we would definitely stay with Yamano. The car service that Yamano set us up with was also very nice and worked well for getting to and from Kyoto Station as well as an 8hr tour.

The place was so beautiful and very close to many restaurants and convenience stores. We were able to stay in or go out with ease. Our host was very friendly and easy to communicate with. Would recommend to anyone, and we all hope to come back in the future!

大満足でした！ホストの方がとても親切で、チェックインもスムーズ。部屋は写真通り清潔でおしゃれで、まるで自分の家のようにくつろげました。キッチンや洗濯機など生活に必要な設備が整っていて、長期滞在にもぴったりです。周辺の観光スポットやおすすめのレストランも丁寧に教えていただき、とても助かりました。またぜひ利用したいと思います！

這是第二次入住，仍然很滿意，有免費雪糕和咖啡任食任飲，下次來福岡仍會再次選擇。

이곳은 온나손의 조용한곳에 위치 합니다. 화장실은 4개이며, 2층에 방1개와 넓은 거실이 있고, 1층에는 방 3개가 있습니다. 많은 인원이 지내기에 충분하며 집에서 보이는 바다의 모습이 아주 아름답습니다. 야외에는 자그미한 자쿠지와 수영장이 있습니다. 깨끗하게 관리되어있는 아름다운집에 다시 마물날을 기다리고 있습니다.

サウナ、水風呂、天然温泉はいずれも気持ちよく利用できました！施設の説明もわかりやすくしていただき、快適に宿泊することができました。

ゴールデンウィークに家族（妻と2歳の子供の３人）で利用させていただきました。 施設は古民家の趣を残したまま、素敵にリノベーションされておりました。また、清潔感もあり、小さな子ども連れでも安心して快適に過ごすことができました。お部屋からの眺めも素晴らしく、日常を忘れてゆったりとした時間を楽しめました。おかげさまで、とても思い出深く充実したゴールデンウィークとなりました。 今回は季節的に利用できませんでしたが、敷地内のプールもとても魅力的で、次回はぜひ夏に訪れて、家族でプールも満喫したいと思います。

We had a great stay. The apartment was very clean and spacious. Felt like a home away from home. Chikako is a fantastic host. She met us at check in and also came early in the morning at checkout so we could use the internal lift to transport our luggage. She also had helpful local recommendations. The izakaya restaurant just across the street is fantastic, we went back there a 2nd time as the food was so good! Would highly recommend Chikako’s accomodation!

A동 B동 선택이 불가능하지만, 걱정과 달리 앞건물이 뷰를 심하게 방해하진않습니다. 온수풀이 아니라서 더운날씨가 아니면 어린이 수영은 어려워요. 옥상욕탕이 관리가 안되서 코팅이 벗겨져있어요. 그외엔 만족합니다

3歳〜11歳の子供を4名連れ宿泊させて頂きました。花火やお菓子、おもちゃ、ボードゲーム・カードゲーム、本、キックボードなど数え切れないほど用意されていて、子供達は終始楽しそうに遊んで大喜びでした。ポップコーンやアイスクリームなども作れ、大人も童心に返ってしまいました。ウェルカムサービスの域を遥かに超えているサービスにはただただ感嘆しかなく、過去一番の最高のお宿でした。大雨でチェックアウト時間を大幅に過ぎてしまいましたが寛容にご対応いただき、ホストの方のホスピタリティに心から感謝しております。また必ず伺わせていただきます。
