Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

Hidea bed on main level**only suitable for 1 person sleeping on** has a 50 inch TV & Small/Full kitchen & bathroom with shower on the main flr. 5 minutes from the village of Cowichan Bay, with local shops and plenty of choices for dining. We are 15 minutes from the town of Duncan and 35 minutes from Victoria and about 45 minutes from the Nanaimo Duke point ferry.

Our tiny cabin is located on a 14 acres property in the middle of the woods. You will enjoy complete privacy and use of your own area on the land, including a pond. Located 2 min, from the Transcanada Trail, 20 min. walk to the Kinsol Trestle, a World Heritage Site with beautiful swimming holes right underneath the bridge. 20 min. to next Grocery store and 22-25 min to Duncan. Approx. 50 min- 1 hr to Victoria. Pottery lessons are available by request if you have always wanted to try it out.

The suite is totally self contained with its own private entrance. Linens, towels, shampoos and utensils are provided. We are at the foot of Mt. Thank you Holly and Kevin for a really comfortable stay. The suite is brilliant - everything you could possibly need all through from Kitchen to beds to bathroom facilities. Such attention to detail, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We felt really well looked after and very happy to arrive after a long journey and feel safe and able to cook up a meal and have a really somfmy night's sleep. Thank you Holly and Kevin!

Mi pareja y yo hemos estado 8 días en el alojamiento de Connie y Douglas, y faltan las palabras para describir nuestra súper grata experiencia. Superó nuestras expectativas. La ubicación es excepcional, el apartamento es espacioso y Connie ha puesto en él detalles que hacen que te sientas como en casa. Los momentos en el jardín privado, rodeado de naturaleza, no tienen precio. Los baños en el jacuzzi con vistas al bosque, al amanecer y por la noche son un extra a tener en cuenta. Pero lo más destacable ha sido la extrema amabilidad de Connie y Douglas, siempre pendientes, pero sin ser intrusivos, respondían a cualquier necesidad al instante. Además, nos regalaron el paladar con snacks y rico salmón de BC. Y café disponible toda la semana. Tuvimos también un agradable rato de charla y cervezas con ellos. ¡Son unos grandes anfitriones y grandes personas! Los recomendamos al 100%, y ojalá volvemos a vernos. Ya echamos de menos la belleza y la paz y la gratitud del lugar y sus dueños.

We found ourselves in town for a family service and Fiona was the utmost kind and supportive host we could have found. The space was absolutely perfect, spotless, serene, and comfortable. It was exactly as described and made a difficult trip much more easy, especially being by the beautiful ocean. We saw a ton of wildlife so the speed limits are absolutely necessary. Thank you Fiona, we will surely be back in the future.

Elaine was a perfect host. Responsive, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Her sense of style shines throughout the rooms with her art, lovely mix of modern and antique touches. Very comfortable beds, extra pillows and cozy bedding were perfect after a busy day exploring the area. Elaine also treated us to some delicious homebaking. From the patio we saw a herd of Roosevelt Elk at dusk moving single file up into the tree line. We will definitely be back again.

This was our second time staying at Conner’s place, and it was just as cozy as the first time. The space was private and roomy enough for my husband, myself, and our young baby. The place was spotless and was a quiet peaceful retreat to return to at night when visiting family in town. Thank you for the lovely stay.
