Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

Hidea bed on main level**only suitable for 1 person sleeping on** has a 50 inch TV & Small/Full kitchen & bathroom with shower on the main flr. 5 minutes from the village of Cowichan Bay, with local shops and plenty of choices for dining. We are 15 minutes from the town of Duncan and 35 minutes from Victoria and about 45 minutes from the Nanaimo Duke point ferry.

Our tiny cabin is located on a 14 acres property in the middle of the woods. You will enjoy complete privacy and use of your own area on the land, including a pond. Located 2 min, from the Transcanada Trail, 20 min. walk to the Kinsol Trestle, a World Heritage Site with beautiful swimming holes right underneath the bridge. 20 min. to next Grocery store and 22-25 min to Duncan. Approx. 50 min- 1 hr to Victoria. Pottery lessons are available by request if you have always wanted to try it out.

The suite is bright and cheerful, one bedroom with a double sofa bed in the living area. It is fully furnished with a full kitchen, complete bathroom facilities and washer/dryer. The suite is totally self contained with its own private entrance. Linens, towels, shampoos and utensils are provided. We are at the foot of Mt. Tzouhalem (Zoo-Halem), a popular hiking/mountain biking and walking destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Our suite is inspected and legal.

Thank you Holly and Kevin for a really comfortable stay. The suite is brilliant - everything you could possibly need all through from Kitchen to beds to bathroom facilities. Such attention to detail, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We felt really well looked after and very happy to arrive after a long journey and feel safe and able to cook up a meal and have a really somfmy night's sleep. Thank you Holly and Kevin!

My partner and I have spent 8 days at Connie and Douglas's accommodation, and there are no words to describe our super pleasant experience. It exceeded our expectations. The location is exceptional, the apartment is spacious and Connie has put details in it that make you feel at home. Moments in the private garden, surrounded by nature, are priceless. Bathing in the jacuzzi overlooking the forest, at sunrise and at night are an extra to consider. But the most remarkable thing has been the extreme kindness of Connie and Douglas, always attentive, but without being intrusive, they responded to any need instantly. In addition, they treated us to snacks and delicious BC salmon. And coffee available all week. We also had a nice time chatting and drinking beers with them. They are great hosts and great people! We recommend them 100%, and I hope we see each other again. We already miss the beauty and peace and gratitude of the place and its owners.

We found ourselves in town for a family service and Fiona was the utmost kind and supportive host we could have found. The space was absolutely perfect, spotless, serene, and comfortable. It was exactly as described and made a difficult trip much more easy, especially being by the beautiful ocean. We saw a ton of wildlife so the speed limits are absolutely necessary. Thank you Fiona, we will surely be back in the future.

Living room, bathroom, and bedroom were all very clean. Great central location between Victoria and Nanaimo, lots of wineries nearby. True Grain bakery in Cowichan Bay was great. Host was very friendly and responsive. Would definitely recommend staying here.
