TABITABI is a 100-square-meter, two-story house built in the Taisho period with a modern style. You can enjoy an accommodation experience unique to Kyoto, where the old and new coexist, in a creative space with a harmonious modern interior, while retaining the remnants of when it was a wooden house, such as the beams with a history of over 100 years running along the high ceilings and beautifully decorated fittings. There is a private garden and open-air bath on the first floor. There is also a state-of-the-art unit bathroom on the second floor. We have two Simmons mattresses, the best in the United States. The Japanese-style room is decorated with a "vortex" design jointly created by a Kyoto washi maker with over 100 years of history and Japan's leading furniture craftsman, resulting in a shoji screen with a unique blend of light and design. The Japanese-style room cushions are "stylish and comfortable to sit on for a long time."We have placed the "Ojami Zabuton" cushion developed by Takahata-ya in the theme of "Fashionable and long-lasting comfort on the floor". Built in the early Showa era and long used as a tea ceremony classroom, the townhouse has been reborn as a private rental inn, "Kyomachiya Cottage karigane". It is a 1-minute walk to the hot springs and Daikokuji Temple, which has deep ties to tea. Shino, with its unique cafes, coffee roasters, delicious Japanese confectionery stores, bakeries, and soba shops. Please use the carefully restored Kyomachiya as your base for sightseeing in northern Kyoto, where time flows slowly, with a focus on natural materials and traditional craftsmanship by Miyadai Koge and Saigo craftsmen.

Haruya Guesthouse

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

I am an Artist / Photographer born in Kyoto I started hosting because I love meeting people from all over the world and making new friends. This place used to be one big guesthouse, but during Covid19, I have stopped running the guesthouse and I moved in with my wife and 2 kids. Still I didn't want to give up so I left the good parts. To ensure you enjoy the stay to the fullest, I set check-in and check-out time to both 12:00 Noon. So you can stay up for 24 hours with one night booking. YAMANOTE HOUSE is accessible from major Kansai stations with 37min from Kyoto Sta. or 65min from Osaka Sta. If you come by car from Kyoto it takes less than 1 hour. The area aournd the house is once small castle town. The house is located next to the Shrine, Hiyoshi-Jinja, where the Omizo Festival is held on May 3 and 4 every year.

Our inn was apparently built in the early Showa period. We have renovated the bathroom and kitchen areas to make your stay more comfortable while still retaining the charm of the townhouse, such as the low ceilings and narrow, steep stairs.
