Yellow Dog Yurt - Peace and Quiet near Marquette

CiaaraRating, 5 stars1 month ago
An absolutely amazing place to stay! The Yurt was super nice and clean. The outside was exactly what we were looking for. A quiet, secluded getaway in the forest of the north. Plenty of room away from the road to let the dogs roam as well! My favorite part was the outdoor swing! if you're looking for the best home base while in the UP, you cant go wrong with this place. From cooking food on the campfire, to being in a great location for sight seeing, it has everything you could ask for. Even an outhouse with a view! A big THANK YOU to the hosts for maintaining and sharing such a wonderful place.

Ron & Debbie thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to get back in tune with nature, forget the city life, & let go of things that serve us no good. Watching sunrises every morning and seeing wild life in our surroundings was amazing. We got to leave refreshed & feeling so much love. We hate to go but cannot wait until we are back!

Cozy A-Frame Cabin on the shores of Lake Huron

AlexRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Spent almost a week here. Great place. Beautiful shoreline. Cozy and well styled cabin. Didn't even want to play any music or watch any shows. We just set by the fire, or inside, by the window, when it would get chilly outside - listened to the waves and the wind and watched the lake.

Scenic, Serene Lakefront Cabin — Wood Stove

StephanieRating, 5 stars4 days ago
We had a great relaxing time. It’s so cutely decorated and she thought of everything a guest would need, including snacks and wine. Very clean, furniture was comfortable, and everything was easy to find/use. We rafted, played games (provided), played corn hole, rode provided bikes, had a fire inside and outside, read while looking out at the lake, and more. It was very relaxing.

Superior A-Frame RARE Opening 7/30-8/6

SarahRating, 5 stars1 week ago
If you are looking to rent a place in this area - this is it. It’s beautiful, cozy-retro, and updated all at the same time. We loved the views! Right on Lake Superior with an amazing deck overlooking the beach and water, with stairs access to the beach. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and enjoy homemade meals and family time together. Andrea was a great host and super responsive. I would request to book this A-frame again if we were back in the area in a heartbeat!

Valley View Vacation Rental

BrisaRating, 5 stars5 days ago
We had a comfortable stay here at Valley View with Kim and Dom. As someone who suffers from OCD, I felt this place exceeded my expectations with cleanliness. I was very impressed. Although there was an issue with the AC and the power going out, Kimberly was communicative and proactive. We hope to coming back soon, maybe even before the summer ends. I highly recommend this place as the host was very friendly and accommodating! Thank you for an amazing trip.

A very cozy spot in the woods. We loved the views and it was a great end point for our hikes. It was close enough to town so if we needed anything it was a short drive but remote enough that it felt cozy and put of the way.

Wood Haven's Lakefront cabin with stunning views

TonyaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We loved your little cabin. The area was beautiful and quiet without city distractions. We loved watching the birds and the deer each morning. We knew that there were other cabins on the property but didn’t realize just how close; however, after parking and unloading, we never needed to go out back so you would never know the other cabin is there. We loved how you have that set up. Thank you for sharing your space.

The Bear Cub Aframe

CatelynRating, 5 stars6 days ago
This is such a cute and cozy little cabin! There is a home nearby but with all of the trees it still is a very secluded and private stay. Just what we needed to relax and reset! Home is clean and all the little details and decorations seemed so thoughtful! There is so much to do even just at the cabin. From board games, corn hole, hot tub, or just hanging out around the fire pit or on the hammock, there is much to do between all the nearby adventures. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend!

Spring Lake Cabin

KieraRating, 5 stars3 days ago
This was the third year in a row my boyfriend and I have stayed at this gorgeous cabin, and each time it gets better and better! As always, Ian and Melanie were amazing hosts: providing a spotless cabin with an upgraded bathroom, and reached out proactively when needed. 100% a steal on the price to stay at this breathtaking cabin. It’s on a private lake with provided kayaks, a row boat, and paddle boat; as well as, wifi and A/C making it the perfect combination of modern amenities with the homey feel of a cabin on the lake. If you’re thinking about staying in or around Iron Mountain, definitely look into the Spring Lake Cabin- you won’t regret it!! We look forward to coming back next year :)

Your guide to Upper Peninsula of Michigan

All About Upper Peninsula of Michigan

The Upper Peninsula can feel a little like the Wild West of the Midwest: scenic, rugged, remote, a place that takes determination to live in year-round and inspires awe in visitors. The 300-mile-long peninsula, whose triangular shape is framed by Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, and Lake Huron, is one of those regions that rewards long stays and excursions outdoors — both the warm-weather kind (hunting, hiking) and winter sports. From the Porcupine Mountains, near the Wisconsin border, to Sault Ste. Marie just over the water from Canada, the UP promises rocky coastlines, lush waterfalls, and old-growth forests. The 300,000 Yoopers who live here year-round extend a good-natured Midwestern welcome to those traveling through.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Upper Peninsula of Michigan

Located to the north of Wisconsin, with boundaries defined by two Great Lakes, the Upper Peninsula is no tropical destination. After a glorious, crisp fall, the snow begins falling in October and doesn't stop for six months. Don’t stint on packing winter wear, good boots, and possibly snowshoes in case you have car trouble. Spring rushes through the region in April and May, then yields to a glorious few months from June through August, where the temperatures hang in the 70s Fahrenheit and occasionally slip higher. Bring shorts and swimwear for the daytime, and light long-sleeve shirts and pants for the evening — black flies and mosquitos can be a nuisance.

Top things to do in Upper Peninsula of Michigan

Tahquamenon Falls State Park

This 50,000-acre state park in the east of the UP is densely covered in trees and home to one of the largest waterfalls in the United States, with a spectacular 50-foot drop. A four-mile hike through maples and beeches brings you to a second set of cascades; the park makes off-road track chairs available for wheelchair users to explore both falls.

Sault Ste. Marie

When the Soo Locks connecting Lakes Superior and Huron opened in 1855, wealth and industry came to the Upper Midwest. It’s still hypnotic to watch the massive ships traveling between the Atlantic and Minnesota rise and descend. The town itself is a pleasure to meander around, too, with a lively dining and arts scene.

Marquette

Marquette, the largest city on the peninsula, combines the charm of a college town with unparalleled access to Lake Superior and the surrounding wildlife. Miles of mountain bike trails wind around the outskirts of the city. The Marquette Maritime Museum and the Marquette Harbor Lighthouse, open during the summer months, display the fascinating history of sea travel on the world’s biggest freshwater lake.

Keweenaw Peninsula

Old mining towns dot this remote peninsula-on-a-peninsula in the western third of the region; the Cornish pasties miners introduced to Michigan are the most obvious remnant of the once-thriving industry. The town of Copper Harbor is a good base for your explorations, whether they include staying on the shore to see the Northern Lights or hiking the trails of Fort Wilkins Historic State Park.
