Jacks_placeballarat. Original 1960s classic.

Step back in time to a hilltop house with views across the city through picture windows. Exposed brick and the extensive use of natural wood maintain a mid-century atmosphere, enhanced by period furnishings and gleaming softwood floors throughout. The House Manual provides information about Jack's, as we call our house. We do not host guests with accompanying pets and smoking on any part of the house and property is not acceptable. If these rules are not to your liking then please do not book. Jack's Place is an original 1960's architect designed house. A master bedroom with direct access to the bathroom (en-suite except it is the only one!). The second bedroom features jarrah flooring and exposed brick wall. The living area features a unique view across the City especially at night. Functional kitchen and laundry, air conditioning and heating. The rental terms are for the whole house but if a couple book then it is expected only one bedroom is used. On booking it is best to clarify if both bedrooms are required. If not we do not make up the second bed. Jack's Place is a free standing brick residence with its own car space. There is a walled courtyard and front lawn area/garden (yet to be fully developed ). Cate and I live behind Jack's Place and both properties share a driveway. Naturally the drive must be kept clear at all time. More than happy to be contacted with any questions relating to Ballarat in general, food, wine and things to do. This 1962 house is in Golden Point, an old area in the City of Ballarat, about 125 kilometers west of Melbourne. These days the architecture of the area varies from 1860s dwellings, California bungalows, and modern high-density residences. Ballarat's main street is Sturt St. It is about a ten minute walk to the town centre and less to major supermarkets. Parking in town is charged via meter all week. On the edge of the central business district parking is free. Parking around the restaurant area of Armstrong St is difficult. My advice is to walk to dinner and Uber home. Local buses are confusing. Only a few minutes away is The Grapes Hotel, friendly and reliable. Ballarat weather can be variable. I have no control over the weather! We are perched about 375 metres above sea level, cold in Winter and hot in Summer. Summer nights tend to cool down. To keep the house warm and you comfortable, draw the blinds and turn on the heating. There are electric panel heater available in the house. Be very aware that they are not suitable for use when young children are part of the guest party. To cool the house, draw the blinds, close all windows and unnecessary doors and set the cooling for 10C below the outside temperature.

It’s a few minutes drive to Lucas shopping centre, 10-minute drive to the CBD and 20 minutes to Sovereign Hill. For safety reasons, the gas fireplace is not available but has 3 reverse cycle aircon.

The Cottage @ Hedges

The Cottage @ Hedges is an easy 10 minute drive from the centre of Ballarat. The cottage sits within a pretty country garden about 20 metres from my home on a small rural property. Close to parklands, Lake Wendouree, art galleries, wineries and lots of great cafes and restaurants. The Ballarat-Skipton Railtrail is just 300 metres away - perfect for quiet country walks and cyclists. It is comfortable inside and out with plenty of shady spots to sit in the garden.

We had a lovely stay - the view was beautiful. The place itself was as described, tiny! The surroundings were pretty especially during sunrise and sunset. Only downfall is you have to pay $25 for timber to start the fire.

From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by all the thoughtful and generous touches, including freshly baked bread and eggs from their own chickens, which truly enhanced our stay there. The loft was spotlessly clean, everything smelled fresh and inviting, and the attention to detail really stood out. We absolutely loved our stay, it was perfect. I knew from our initial conversation that Cheryl was going to be great to deal with. She made the whole process so easy. This house is so beautiful, comfortable and cosy. I can honestly say it’s one of our favourite places we’ve stayed in. Cheryl had thought of everything we needed and more. So generous with a bottle of wine, beautiful bread and breakfast supplies. We ended up staying in both mornings instead of going out. We will definitely come back. Highlight was the wood fire and bath!

The property was incredible, the props and theme as you drove up the individual cabin were so cool, especially in the dark of night. The space was surreal with the windows surrounding the bed, so cozy and when raining. The outdoor bath was amazing, the lights surrounding it made it perfect. The staff were attentive too, coming to check all was well on the 2nd day after check in. Would definitely recommend any of the options on the property!

I had a lovely stay at this unique and cozy converted shed! It was surprisingly spacious and well-equipped with everything needed for a relaxing break. The wood-fired heater added a warm, rustic charm, and the games like table tennis and foosball made the stay even more fun. The beds were comfortable, and the extra sleeping options would be great for families with kids. Being able to explore the surrounding paddocks was a peaceful bonus. A great little getaway spot—definitely not your average shed!
