“We were completely delighted with our winter break in Pont-en-Royan in this charming historic apartment. Magali was an excellent host, very helpful and attentive to any questions we had. The area is beautiful and we enjoyed many long walks through the local mountains. There are a few local walks detailed in the helpful folder in the apartment and you can pick up the regional map from the local shop for walking further afield. Pont-en-Royans is small, but there is n excellent boulangerie, grocery store and local bar/tabac open in January which we were very happy with and could find everything we needed locally. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I get the impression the village could be a lot busier in the summer months but recommend it for a quiet winter retreat with excellent walking, within reach of ski-resorts (but very definitely nothing like a ski resort) and on a beautiful stretch of the river along an impressive gorge. We had no idea the apartment itself would be in such a charming location, on the wide stone stairs of the alley that leads to the church. We travelled by train to the nearest station at St Hilaire St Nazaire and found it reasonably easy to hitch a lift to Port-en-Royans, and also to hitch back along the gorge from Villard de Lans after walking there. There are many charming and helpful locals. There are no bus options, though it would be wonderful to travel by bike in this area too.”
