  • A great cosy cottage in an excellent location Clean and comfortable Friendly host and well equipped accommodation Recommend for short break or longer stay

  • Kate's cottage is really lovely - so cosy, clean and welcoming (it was great to walk in and find a tea tray set out on the table, complete with chocolate biscuits!) It's very well located with off road parking, but so quiet and has pleasant green views (and quite dark skies for stargazing). There are free range chickens outside the front door and a good sized enclosed rear garden. We enjoyed relaxing with the log burner in the evenings and slept really well under the feather duvets! Another stand out point is how well equipped the cottage is. Plenty of plates, cutlery, cooking utensils etc in the kitchen, extra toilet rolls - small points which really make a break easier. There's also a very well stocked games cupboard, and lots of books and DVDs. We loved our stay and would love to return for longer!

  • Kate is an excellent host, really helpful and happy to share local knowledge.

  • A very pretty ,beautifully furnished cottage . Great location to explore the wonderful coastline. Nice little pub in the village and deli at North Creake Abbey.

  • A lovely cottage, very homely and attractive. We had a great stay and would definitely stay again.

    Mark2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect winter retreat, a real home from home. We had had a busy few weeks so wanted somewhere where we could walk (Holkham beach was amazing), eat well (North Creake Abbey farm shop provided delicious hunker-down goodies when Storm Ciara kicked off) and sleep (comfy bed! - we hadn't slept so well in ages!) so it was a winner all round. Really clean and really welcoming, just lovely .

    Kirsty2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Kate’s place. A lovely home in a beautiful part of the world. With a great pub down the road. And near to some great beaches. A proper rural idyll.

  • We had a wonderful week at Fleece House. The house was immaculate and so homely. The wood burner was well used during our stay as the weather was not great. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with everything you needed to cook at home. The bedrooms were beautiful and the beds were really comfortable. A really great space and the location was perfect as so many places were within an easy drive.

The enclosed courtyard was perfect for the kids and dog and the location was splendid with the park and ducks very close by. Burnham Market A delightful Georgian village which is situated a stone’s throw away from the glorious North Norfolk coastline and is the largest of the 7 Burnham villages. At its centre is a large village green surrounded by striking Queen Anne and Georgian buildings, with 2 churches that lie at each end of its broad main street. Unlike many other English towns which are dominated by multiples, Burnham Market has a traditional post office, butcher, baker, hardware shop, fish shop and chemist for all the necessities of everyday life, but there are also over 30 highly original independent and specialist shops, selling a wide range of exciting deli products, vibrant and stylish accessories for home and garden, smart clothes shops, and books old and new. There are some great places to eat, the best being the renowned Hoste Arms which is a 17th Century old coaching house and is open all day. As a result Burnham Market attracts many celebrities and cosmopolitan visitors, getting very crowded in the holiday periods, earning the nickname “Chelsea-on-Sea.” There is an annual summer music festival with professional musicians entertaining residents and holiday makers in various venues such as the lovely church of Burnham Westgate at the western edge of the village. From the end of November the village is beautifully lit with Christmas lights and it makes the perfect place to visit for Christmas shopping.

  • Comfortable, charming, well appointed historic cottage with very modern conveniences. Its location is excellent, with an easy walk to restaurants, shops and pubs on the green. Convenient to the beaches and Holkham Hall, Burnham Thorpe and the seaside town of Wells.

    Jennifer2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and beautiful little cottage. Well equipped with everything you could need and the open fireplace in the lounge was just wonderful. I would keep in mind as it's a character property it does have lower doors ways and a steep staircase, not a problem for us though. Also Burnham Market is a great place for foodies and is only 15mins away from a great beach for dogs. Highly recommended.

  • A lovely lodge. Everything you need. Superb location and lovely warm and snug. Owners very helpful, but did not impede on privacy.

  • Owl Lodge is a wonderful place to stay, so clean and tidy. We were greeted by Ben who showed us around and explained everything to us. The grounds are completely secure for your animals to run around without any worry. The beds are very comfortable with clean, fresh bedding. It is lovely to hear the local church bells ring out on a Sunday morning. The location is far enough away from everything, but Fakenham is not far (10mins) if you require anything. For the younger generation the Lodge has Free View TV and Wifi. If you want to get away from tablets, computers and phones there are many board games to play. If the weather permits there is a BBQ and garden furniture for you to enjoy. All in all a great place to stay at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

  • We had a very nice five night stay at owl lodge. Set in a great location to explore the wonderful Norfolk coast and countryside, the lodge was comfortable and well-catered, with a large garden that my five year old daughter loved to run around in. Vicky and her husband made us feel very welcome, and on the last night invited my daughter to meet her very patient and well trained dogs, managing to overcome my daughter’s fear of dogs, which was brilliant! Thank you for a lovely stay.

  • Unique, cosy, log cabin. Great kitchen, there is an aga, but also an electric 2 ring hob if you prefer. Gorgeous shower. Big secure garden for little ones to explore. Although the cabin is within Vicky and Ben's garden it is totally private, fenced and gated off. Beds are comfy. Very child friendly, our 3 year old loved it. Location is 30 mins to Hunstanton and 30 mins to Blakeney Point to see the seals, which was a great experience. 15 mins or so to nearest Morrisons for supplies. A really peaceful, pretty location and would definitely recommend for families or couples.

  • Owl Lodge is a hidden gem. We had a beautiful long weekend in the lovely lodge with a very warm welcome from Ben and Vicky. The lodge itself was sparkling clean and beautifully kept and equipped with all the basics you need for a break away. It was close enough to al our favourite Norfolk sites but far enough away to be serene. The beds were exceptionally comfy and the garden was beautiful. We did have a bit of trouble finding the lodge but Ben was very helpful. It was tucked right back from the road near to the church. We will definitely return

It is situated in a peaceful position overlooking the churchyard to the rear and a working farmyard to the front, and just a few minutes drive to the coast and to Burnham Market. A simple but comfortable base with an old charm to it, this cottage could be ideal for those who like to take a step back, slow the pace and take long walks from your doorstep. There are plenty of paths from the cottage so the enthusiastic can walk all the way to the beach or pub without going on the roads. It's such a peaceful spot you are bound to see wildlife, from hares to barn owls and skeins of winter geese passing overhead. The Coaslink bus passes by, and the quiet lanes are great for cycling. 4 Gravel Hill would make a simple cosy cottage break for a couple or small family. The bedrooms are cozy and the choice of two bathrooms lovely. Rosie let us use some kitchen stores food, which is super generous and the crockery and cutlery/gadgets wonderful. Lovely lighting and cosy kitchen to eat in. Easy to park and safe, quiet village near to the coast. Rosie made us feel very welcome and let me know about any query. Old Beans Cottage is an 18th century former washhouse which has been beautifully converted into a studio cottage and furnished to an exceptional standard. This boutique cottage is located in East Barsham, a small village nestling in quiet, rolling countryside less than 3 miles from the market town of Fakenham, with excellent access to the North Norfolk Coast at Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham. The area is renowned for its bird watching opportunities with Cley and Titchwell within easy reach.
Old Beans Cottage was converted into an exceptionally high quality studio cottage by internationally renowned wildlife cameraman Martin Hayward Smith. This sympathetically restored period dwelling overlooks water meadows and woodland. It is not unusual to see Barn Owls and Snipe outside the Cottage. Many varieties of nest boxes have been placed nearby to encourage wildlife. The Cottage enjoys a unique location with peace and tranquility on your doorstep. Open plan room with Sitting/DiningArea with comfortable seating, flat screen TV, DVD, radio and iPod dock, dining table, chairs and French doors to the garden. Bedroom with a king-size bed, a large decorative wardrobe provides a screen to the living area. Well equipped kitchen with electric hob and oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and washing machine. Shower Room with shower cubicle with drench head and additional small head, washbasin and toilet. Towels are provided. Garden: Enclosed rear patio, overlooking wild flower garden. Garden chairs and table offer views over the water meadows and woodland. Webber BBQ provided. Parking: Driveway for one car. Heating: Electric central heating. Also Provided: Towels. WiFi. Hairdryer. Books and games. A library of DVD's. Located in rural North Norfolk, Old Beans Cottage can be found nestling in quiet rolling countryside at the end of a country lane in the village of East Barsham. About 3 miles north of the small market town of Fakenham, it is perfectly placed to offer excellent access to the North Norfolk Coast at Wells and Holkham. The area is renowned for its bird watching opportunities with Titchwell and Cley easily accessible. The nearest pub, The Barsham Arms with cosy log fires, is a 4-minute walk. Nearest shop 2-3 miles. National Cycle routes 1 & 2 will take you through some super countryside and villages. With the coast so close and countryside on the doorstep, this is a great location for a relaxing break. For further details about the North Norfolk area see our Area Info page.
Old Beans Cottage is located right at the heart of North Norfolk Coast. From the National Trust reserve at Titchwell to Cley, famous as a wetland bird sanctuary. The county’s famed ‘big skies’ will entice you with its immense sweeping beaches, unspoilt villages, traditional seaside resorts and tidal creeks just waiting to be explored. The Barsham Arms is a good gastro-pub, only a three minute walk away, with cosy log fires and good food. If cooking in the cottage you can find locally sourced foods at the excellent Walsingham Farm Shop. Follow the 47 mile North Norfolk Coastal path – part of the National Trail – as it winds its way from Hunstanton to Cromer. You don’t have to walk the whole way, of course; why not use the excellent Coasthopper bus service to walk the bits you want and bus the bits you don’t? This can be caught at the bottom of the lane. Along the way you’ll find sandy cliffs, shingle beaches, salt marshes and a Nature Reserve at Holkham – all designated as areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Wildlife enthusiasts can take a boat trip to Blakeney Point to visit the seal colony there. Check for schedules and prices at Beans Boat Trips and Bishop’s Boats. Not got your sea-legs? Then visit the Hawk & Owl Trust Reserve at Sculthorpe Moor just outside Fakenham. Pensthorpe Natural Park is also worth a visit, and has a good cafe and shop. Often called the bird-watching capital of Britain, the coastal areas especially offer a large range of locations for bird sightings. Visit RSPB nature reserves at Titchwell and Snettisham or just wander the coastal paths or quiet back-roads armed with binoculars and see what flies by.
  • This is a well appointed cottage in a beautiful part of North Norfolk. The cottage is very homely with all modern amenities. Martin was very helpful. I would recommend Old Bean cottage to anyone wanting a relaxing time away in a beautiful setting.

  • Old Beans Cottage is an amazing place to stay. It's one of those places that you can't wait to throw back the curtains in the morning to see what nature has to offer that day. The views are to die for, do not forget to take your camera! Martin was an excellent host and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage itself has been finished to a very high standard, was immaculate and wants for nothing. We will definitely be back!

    Andy2020-02-10T00:00:00Z

The Old Chequers is a substantial six-bedroom house with a charming kitchen, dining and family room. It has a generous double reception room that is further enhanced by a sunroom conservatory that gives access out to the incredibly private south west facing, flint stone walled garden and to the River Burn which runs through it. Having had a full renovation, the property has all the modern conveniences while keeping its old world charm.
The Old Chequers, previously the Chequers Inn, is nestled in the quiet village of South Creake on the North Norfolk Coast. The Inn was the center point of South Creake village for over 300 years as the local pub to the neighboring brewery, which is no longer in operation. This historic pub building has recently been beautifully renovated and furnished to a very high standard. It is a wonderful property and is the perfect base for large groups of friends or families looking for a peaceful, relaxing retreat in a great location. You are conveniently located within a 8-minute drive to both Burnham Market and Wells-next-to-the-sea and a 10-minute drive to the famous Holkham Estate and Holkham Beach. There are a few small wayside stalls that stock locally grown vegetables and fruits, cakes, eggs and the summer delicacy, samphire. The village includes plant centres, a fishing lake and other attractions, which vary year from year. There is a large playing field, which has a children’s play area, bowling green, two grass tennis courts and football pitches for the village team and juniors. The driveway holds five cars at a squeeze and is enclosed by a manual gate so you haven’t got to worry about a child or dog running out of the driveway. All bedrooms have their own en-suite bathroom, Bluetooth speaker, wardrobes and exceptional quality mattresses. The pillows and duvets are top quality imported down and feather to ensure they are temperature regulating for the different seasons and the bed coverings are all high thread count cotton to ensure the best night’s sleep whilst staying at The Old Chequers. Entrance As you walk into this old building you are welcomed into large entrance hall that has a chequered tiled floor. There are two large and comfortable armchairs to relax in and plan your days of adventure on the North Norfolk coast or to simply enjoy a good book. The entrance hall provides the central access point to the TV room, Lounge, Dining room, Kitchen, Courtyard and the main staircase. Kitchen Diner As you head through the house you walk into large open plan modern kitchen and dining area. The classic kitchen has solid wood worktops and is well equipped with a large freestanding oven and separate grill, hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, coffee machine, milk frother, kettle and toaster. The kitchen has been thoughtfully equipped to a very high standard for large groups who want to self cater and enjoy meals together. The dining area is beautifully furnished with a solid wood tabletop as the centerpiece of the room. We have always felt that it is important to have a grand dining table to enjoy long and relaxed meals with your friends and family. The dining table seats twelve and you can squeeze a few highchairs around it if you needed to. The dining room is also equipped with a wine and drinks fridge and drinks serving area so not to disrupt the chefs as work in the main kitchen area. From the dining room you can use the arched window to pass food and drinks through to the Courtyard and Firepit area where you can enjoy alfresco dining and relax under the fairy lit sky above you. Utility Room The utility room holds the washing machine, tumble dryer, an additional dishwasher, sink and two fridge freezers. We felt it was important to be able to do a big shop in Wells or Fakenham and have enough space to keep it all fresh for your time at The Old Chequers. There is also a larger unit for all the overflow food and a cleaning cupboard. This is a great space that keeps the entertaining area fuss free and organised. Lounge, TV Room, Playroom, Conservatory This open plan area has been cleverly divided up to cater for all staying in the house. You could either sit next to the cosy log burner on the large sofa or enjoy a movie on the corner sofa with surround sound system. Watch the children in the playroom that has a few toys and board games to keep them occupied or relax in the conservatory and hopefully be lucky enough to meet our feathered friends on the river with their ducklings. This room really does provide a space for all to enjoy and is perfect for families with children or friends on a relaxing retreat. The log burner sets the ambience to the room and we always enjoy watching the flames through the glass, there is a fireguard to keep little fingers at bay. Logs and all things fire can be found at the local nursery or at the petrol station in Burnham Market. The house is a tranquil and relaxing spot where you can disconnect from the world, but do not fret, we are connected to high speed fibre internet and the smart TV has Netflix, Amazon video, etc. at the click of a button. The house has networked speakers throughout and music can be played simultaneously or separately in each room. Walled Garden The quintessentially British, mature, flint stone walled garden has been planted with a variety of plants, shrubs and bushes. There is a large lawn to enjoy a run-around with the children, play a few lawn games or just watch the river flow by. Please be mindful if you are thinking of booking our home for yourselves. We have very young children and appreciate that the open river can be a little concerning. However, we feel very comfortable with our children playing outside in the water, albeit we do make sure they are supervised. Dogs can also enjoy paddling in the water but please also be mindful of the small tunnels either end of the stream in the garden as this is not fenced off. The garden has a Webber BBQ to flip a few burgers and sear a nice steak or some fist-sized scallops if you are lucky enough to pick some up from the local fishmongers at Burnham Market. Courtyard The pebbled courtyard on the north side of the house has been thoughtfully furnished to add additional social space. It is a cosy corner to tuck away into at night time with the fairy lit skyline, dining table to enjoy alfresco dining and a seated fire pit area to keep warm on the chillier evenings. The Grey Room This room was the original entrance to the pub where the bay window now sits. The bedroom has been designed to be wheelchair friendly and has an ensuite wet room shower. The bedroom has a superking bed which can be made into twin beds. The bedroom has been tasteful decorated with a solid wood wardrobe, bedside tables and two comfortable armchairs. The Taupe Room At the far end of the house upstairs is the taupe bedroom which has a solid wood kingsize bed, bedside tables and matching wardrobe. This bedroom has an ensuite with a shower. The Yellow Room The yellow room has a kingsize bed with a wardrobe and an armchair. This bedroom enjoys the wonderful afternoon sun and looks out onto the pebbled driveway. The ensuite to this bedroom has a bath/shower. The Green Room The green room is the third kingsized bedroom and has been furnished with solid mango wood pieces. This room is next door to the yellow room which also sees the afternoon sun. This ensuite has a shower. The Blue Room The blue room, also thought of as the second master bedroom, enjoys a superking bed which can be split into twin beds. This bedroom has a little more space than the rest of the bedrooms so ideal for a travel cot or blow up mattress for younger children. This room also has a bath and shower in the ensuite which is ideal for those with young children. Master Bedroom/ Dressing Room/ Ante Room The Master Bedroom is positioned above the lounge, which is slightly separate from all the other rooms. To access the master you first walk through a large dressing room and then enter the beautiful and tranquil bedroom that looks over the walled garden and stream. There is a sumptuous superking bed, armchair and vanity/ desk space. The underfloor heated ensuite has a large, freestanding bath, a walk in shower and a double basin. This room also has an extra room which is referred to as the Ante Room. This room has been furnished with a sofabed and TV and we use it as a bedroom for our younger children when we visit. You can also access this side of the house through its own separate entrance from the pebbled driveway. The separate entrance, which is also the side access to the garden, is the preferred area to leave your dogs if they are being left at the house on their own. Dogs are not allowed upstairs or in bedroom 6, which is on the ground floor. We ask our guests to refrain from letting animals onto the furniture and rather bring their own dog baskets along, as we have a few allergies in the family.
The quiet village of South Creake on the North Norfolk Coast is conveniently located within a 8-minute drive to both Burnham Market and Wells-next-to-the-sea and a 10-minute drive to the famous Holkham Estate and Holkham Beach. There are a few small wayside stalls that stock locally grown vegetables and fruits, cakes, eggs and the summer delicacy, samphire. • Fabulous host, beautiful home well thought about - the creek running through the back garden is gorgeous Our 3 year old grandson loved having his breakfast and watching “Steve” the duck 🦆 spending time in the water whilst sat in the conservatory A great opportunity to spend quality time as a family who are spread all over the place Definitely plan to return Thank you Charlotte and Ben

  • The most lovely house. Perfect in every way!

    Karl2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent stay at Charlotte’s beautiful home. The house was really well equipped, immaculate and very comfortable. There were 11 of us but it was so spacious that we didn’t feel like we got on top of each other. It is also great for young children with a lovely playroom with lots of toys and a big garden. The location is also perfect for exploring north Norfolk. Charlotte was an excellent host. She always responded to queries within minutes, both before and during the stay. We would definitely stay again.

    Johanna2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a truly exceptional house with all amenities you could possibly need for a large group or family gathering. In a beautiful setting with lovely walks and the restaurants and pubs of nearby Burnham Market. Charlotte & Ben are great hosts. All in all, a super venue

    Joanne2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place to stay! Lovely owners made booking and staying very straightforward. The house itself is beautifully renovated and kitted out with all the bits you could possibly need. The kitchen is super and lots of thoughtful touches kept a family (from 15 months to 87 years old) very happy. Lovely wood burners to relax in front of! So great to have your own en suite for each guest. Would very much recommend a stay here and the surrounding area has such a lot to do and see!

    Emily2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing house, hosts were quick to help and the house was stunning, like a beautiful show home. Would highly recommend staying here.

    Alex2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • This property is a perfect escape! The pictures really don’t do it justice. We particularly enjoyed the garden as well as the ‘yard’ area which is great for entertaining. Charlotte was a fantastic host and has thought of everything in the house for a luxury stay. There are lovely touches all over and quality appliances and furnishings. We were only a small family group but the setup is perfect for friends to go with many bathrooms and different common areas. We will definitely go back. The only downside of writing a 5* review is that it will only get more booked up!

    Paul2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely place for a family gathering, a large well stocked kitchen, big dining tables inside and out and a lovely garden. Kids will love the park 2 mins down the road. The location is fantastic with Burnham Market, Holkham Hall Wells Beach and Morston Quay for Seal trips all within a 25 min drive. I’ll definitely recommend to friends and look forward to returning Jack

  • Lovely location, clean and tidy.

    Emily2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Very spacious and modern interior in an old farmhouse. Location perfect for accessing all of the North Norfolk nature reserves although you really need a car ( or bike!) as its a bit out from any village. Nice kitchen and bathroom. It was frosty when we were there but warm downstairs, bedrooms somewhat cooler but cosy quilts on comfy beds meant we got good sleeps.

    Mark2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay, lots of room, but still very warm and cosy. Perfect for our family of four. Will stay again.

    Bryony2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely clean cottage, perfect for short breaks. It would benefit from a few small alterations to make this super cosy and feel more homely but overall we were thrilled. Communication from the owners was A* and the location was just perfect. We wouldn’t hesitate in re-booking for our mini breaks to beautiful Norfolk.
