Places to stay in Rico

Places to stay in Rico
Stay in a historic hotel room upstairs from the 6th oldest bar in Colorado! Access to free natural hot springs and a 30 minute drive to Telluride through the beautiful San Juan mountains make this an easy choice to have a cozy and affordable place to stay.
This simple, rustic room has big, bright windows overlooking the main street of Rico: one of Colorado's last hidden gems. Your private king bedroom has great views of Dolores Mountain and comes with a queen sleeper sofa in the second bedroom for additional guests or just warming up in front of the electric fireplace. This double room is our most spacious accommodation and has a shared bathroom at the end of the hall. We have 3 other rooms that are usually listed as well, but we are currently only offering this rental to reduce the chances of the spread of COVID.
Rico is small and quiet, but a self-guided walk around town would show that our quaint little town is dotted with historic buildings and access to endless outdoor activities. Less than a five minute drive will get you to the free natural hot springs on the beautiful Dolores river. We have trails for hiking, biking, fishing, motorcycling, 4 wheeling, etc, as well as quick access to Trout Lake and McPhee Reservoir for paddle boarding and general relaxing! We are right between Dolores and Telluride on the scenic Highway 145, known as the San Juan Skyway, which will also take you to Ouray, Silverton, and Durango.
  • Beautiful little slice of history in a beautiful town away from it all! Highly recommend for some cozy and romantic getaway seekers! Great people, food and hospitality!

  • We just loved this spot! We actually wished we stayed longer! We arrived around 10 pm and the friendly bartender Brooke served us a much needed drink after the travel, showed us to our room and we unpacked and hit the hot springs which is just down the road! We loved the common kitchen area, it was nice to have coffee available! Towels available for the shower, the room was a comfortable temperature..can’t say enough about the bang for our buck! We will be back!

    Beautiful and spacious home.
Quiet space with views and access to wild open mountain setting.
  • Laurie's place was fantastic. The house was very clean, and the room and bathroom were spacious and open. Laurie was a great host, and left thoughtful touches, like a pitcher of filtered water in the room when you arrive. The house was quiet, and a great place to work if, like me, you are working while traveling. Thanks for a great stay!

    Nelson2019-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Laurie's home is beautiful, has every amenity you will need, and is situated in a very scenic part of the San Juan mountains! The room is amazing, and the down comforter is as close to sleeping in a cloud as you could possibly get (believe me the down comforter made sleeping so much fun!) Laurie herself is very knowledgeable of the area and is an amazing person to converse with! I will for sure be coming again!

    Jaskirat2018-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Look no further for a place to stay in Rico. Laurie’s home is magnificent and a place where we instantly felt at home. Although it’s hard to rival the setting and the home itself, having Laurie as a host was the unexpected highlight. She made us feel so comfortable and when we left we knew that we were leaving the home of a new found friend. We hope to stay with Laurie many more times.

    Greg And Shelli2018-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Laurie’s home is gorgeous and unique. It’s full of art and little treasures, with a spiritual vibe. Laurie herself is fascinating and kind, and has excellent recommendations. The bedroom is like its own suite - with a huge bathtub where I enjoyed a piping hot bath, a king sized bed, and its own balcony. This is a gem.

    Michael2018-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • I LOVE this space! I've stayed here twice. The king bed is fantastic and I LOVE the HUGE bathtub! It's amazing! Rico is a charming little town.

    Sheryl2018-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay. Laurie is an excellent host and the town of Rico is wonderful! Great hiking close by and friendly people everywhere. One of my new favorite places to stay.

    John2018-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Laurie’s cottage in the peaceful woods of RICO truly is a magical, energising home away from home. It is clean, with a luscious king bed that we could barely get out of. Beautiful furnishings. Stunning views from very window in the home. On arrival Lori accompanied us to a local restaurant where the chef Eamon (local culinary master) prepared the best meal we’ve had since arriving to the 🇺🇸 US. The locals performed for his birthday and we sang along to musical classics! Bliss! We hope to be back and can’t wait for Lori to come visit. Arohanui Matt & Erana Xxx

    Erana2017-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures don't do the room justice-- it's huge! There's a vaulted ceiling and little loft. The bathroom feels enormous and luxurious and there's a very deep tub and a heated floor. The bed was also huge and luxurious and Laurie was very good at anticipating our needs-- there was an extra down comforter for us. Laurie was such a gracious, generous host! We felt very welcomed and comfy. She even offered a spare pair of gloves for me after it snowed. The little enclave in Rico was cozy and beautiful and we just had the best time here. Many thanks again!

Beautiful home in a quaint mountain town. Only thirty minutes to Telluride, great place to stay after a day of skiing or at the festivals. The home itself is backed up to the glorious San Juan National Forest. Hikers, bikers, and all outdoor enthusiasts will not be disappointed. Just over an hour to Mesa Verde National Park.
This home is our main place of residence. We will not be present during your stay and you will have access to all of the home except the main bedroom and bath. The upper floor has a living space and kitchen along with an office nook. The lower floor has 1 bedroom with 2 beds (1 king, 1 twin) and a full bathroom. There is a large deck with astounding views as well as an outdoor fire BBQ pit for grilling.
Home is backed up to the national forest, a trail is present right out of the back yard. You'll have access to many many more trails in the area, should hiking/biking be your goal. A short walk and you'll find yourself at lovely free natural hot spring right on the Dolores River. The local watering hole is one of the oldest bars in the state of Colorado and one of the friendly locals can guide you in to-do's in the area. 30 minutes to Telluride, 1 hour to Mesa Verde, and 1.5 hours to The Four Corners
  • Place is as described. Host is easy to communicate with and friendly

    Benjamin2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible, cozy and scenic cottage nestled in the mountains. Absolutely loved our stay. Highly recommend.

    Michael-Vincent2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • It's hard to imagine a home that better embodies what you hope to experience in a mountain cabin than this one. The view of the San Juans during the day is great, and despite being located at the edge of a town, the view of the night sky is superb. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook several meals after wearing ourselves out during the day. Eliza was quick to respond whenever a question arose.

    Christopher2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot next to aspens. Very clean and good communication from host. It did help to know there was a blue Subaru parked in driveway, otherwise it could be possible to not find the right house. If you are staying just make sure you have your directions pulled up on phone before entering mountains in case you loose service.

    Allison2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great location! The cabin offers an amazing view of the mountains, cozy feel & wood burning fireplace! Perfect for what we were wanting! Will definitely stay again

    Danielle2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I just got married, and were looking for a quiet place in the mountains to relax. We definitely found that at Eliza’s place! It felt like an oasis - It’s clean, rustic, cozy, and we loved sitting outside to watch the stars. The bed was comfy and I loved the windows and plants in the bedroom. There’s no AC but we wouldn’t have needed it anyways as it gets cool at night. We also loved the location. It was so peaceful to hear the river from the house. Rico is beautiful and we hung out at Enterprise quite a bit, and also did day trips to Dunton and Telluride. We stopped at a grocery store in Telluride and cooked a bunch at the house which was really nice. Not sure if there’s a closer grocery store but would recommend stopping somewhere as Rico is small. We loved our time here!

    Ellie2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was located very privately at the end of a small driveway, we really enjoyed the privacy. Everything was amazing, from the location to the comfort. We had everything we needed to and Eliza went out of her way to make sure we had everything necessary for our stay including a very neatly organized folder with all the instructions and things to do in the area. The town itself was conveniately located close to Telluride where we enjoyed an amazing festival and great community and people. Would highly recommend not only the cabin but the great experience we had with Eliza!

    Eirík2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Eliza’s place is a dream! A little cabin nestled in the heart of the mountain with stunning views. So calm and peaceful. Great kitchen space with living room right there, so cozy! We were able to follow a few of Eliza’s recommendations and they were incredible!! Such a nice, communicative host, highly recommend staying here!

Enjoy a private glamping experience on a small organic farm and orchard. The canvas tent has solar lighting, a wood stove and everything you need for a cozy stay. An outdoor kitchen is on the deck, along with two Adirondack checks so you can sit and enjoy the beautiful views of Mesa Verde. A brand-new private bathhouse is a few meters away with your own hot shower, compost toilet and sink. You have your own private entrance onto the property, so this is the perfect spot for social distancing!
The glamping tent is on a three-acre organic vegetable farm and orchard. You will have views of the fields and greenhouses with Mesa Verde in the background. Since this is a functioning farm, there are sharp objects, pokey weeds, and tender plants. So, we ask that you do not tour the farm unless you talk to us first. If you are interested in growing food, I would be happy to show you around - from a distance!
We live two miles south of Mancos, Colorado, in absolutely gorgeous small town at the base of Mesa Verde. It was just voted one of the best small towns in America by the Travel Channel. It is also a designated Colorado Creative District and if you walk down the charming main street and see all of the art galleries and studios, you'll see why. We have a thriving agricultural economy and in the summer it's easy to find local food - veggies, cheese, bread, meat - you name it! Our veggies are at the local grocery store in town.

A cute little rustic cabin that had breath-taking views of the San Juan Mountains and the Dolores River. It's a place to relax after a day of adventure in Telluride or Mesa Verde National Park. We are close to many National Forest roads that will lead you to meadows filled with wild flowers and wildlife. The cabin is a perfect base for hunters.
If you enjoy getting away from main stream and seeing nature, we are the place for you. There are plenty of things to do and see while in the area. We are close toTelluride, Mesa Verde, Ouray, Canyon of the Ancients and much more. We have fishing right on the property. National Forest roads that have amazing views. But best of all we are a place to just relax.
I was raised in Dolores, Colorado and attended school there from kindergarten thru high school. I loved grown-up in the San Juan Mountains. There's a certain peace that comes over me when I'm watching the river drift by. And everyday I see something different. It could be something as simple as the wind ruffling the trees or the migration of the elk in the spring and fall. I was raised to treat people how I would want to be treated, to be honest and kind and to love and respect nature.
  • An absolute gem! We stayed here on the last night of a trip to the Telluride area and are so glad we did. At Green Snow Oasis, you're guaranteed a beautiful drive to get there, a cozy place to stay, and thoughtful hospitality from Wendy and her family. Communication and check-in was also quick and easy.

    Margot2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great stay in a beautiful environment. Wendy was a great host and the accommodations exceeded our expectations.

    William2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing Host; Wendy is warm and gregarious. She displays a genuine interest with regards to her guests comfort and needs. The setting is magnificent, the cabin is quaint and contains all one needs to sleep, eat, play & shower. Wendy has extensive knowledge of the area, utilize it as maps & brochures don't. If you are seeking nature and a departure from a hectic schedule Green Snow Oasis is THE place. I'll be back! Sheryl

  • Wendy could not be a more kind and enthusiastic host - she’s a hugger! As a couple of urban Brits we got to see a whole different side of America by staying here. Met some interesting people around the campfire and really enjoyed ourselves. The setting is truly beautiful and the huts are rustic in the best way.

    Josh2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • A great cabin in a stunningly beautiful part of the San Juans. Wendy was an amazing hostess and was really fun to hang out with by the campfire. She also gave us some great local tips for our 4x4 camping adventures. Can't wait to return.

  • Cozy and clean cabin in a beautiful setting. Wendy was a wonderful host. We’ll be back!

  • The Green Snow Oasis is everything dog lovers are looking for accommodation. Wendy is great host and the rustic cabin is super cute and have everything you need. The big fenced in yard is a big plus for our two dogs.

  • This place was a dream! Little hikes around the place. No service but WiFi is available. Wendy is super accommodating and knows the area well. They have a cat named shenanigans and a dog named aria and both are super friendly. If I ever find myself in the area I will certainly stay again.

The house is in a quiet older rural Colorado neighborhood with mixed housing. The neighbors are friendly. The back yard is xeriscaped with beautiful red gravel and stones quarried from the nearby West Fork of the Dolores River. In the summer, cottonwoods create a wall of trees on the north border of the property.
  • Cute studio with lovely back deck /outdoor area.

Spectacular views of Montezuma Valley, Mesa Verde Park and Sleeping Ute Mountain are directly out the floor to ceiling windows across the private & intimate studio space located on 40 acres. Want simple? Great spot for outdoor enthusiasts. Take advantage of our private hiking/biking trail built by the creator of "Phil's World", a famous mountain biking venue in Cortez. A shared hot tub awaits you at the end of a long day of play! A $20 cleaning pet fee is requested upon arrival.
For those traveling "lightly and quickly" and who want to be unencumbered with the "full-on" food scene, it has no kitchen, but it has a mini refrigerator and the microwave/toaster ovens allow you to bring in your favorite deli foods or prepackaged items for simple meal preparation. The bistro table and chairs provide a resting spot to view unparalleled vistas and sunsets. At the end of a day of hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing, or sight seeing, cozy up in this intimate space sipping a hot cup of tea or partaking of your favorite glass of wine. A relaxing sleep awaits you in the queen bed ( sheets and towels provided) that looks out through the expanse of floor to ceiling windows. This is "glamping" at its best ! A new large 30 gallon hot water heater gives plenty for showering! This will far exceed your expectations if you are not looking for a traditional home/hotel experience!
After a day full of outdoor activity or ambling through the streets and shops of our nearby towns of Telluride and Durango we can steer you towards our local places of "color" and entertainment. Just 5 minutes away in the village of Dolores, our micro brew pub offers super wood-fired oven pizzas, unique salads and "suds" and almost weekly live music. The small, local market offers a variety of locally grown organic veggies and on-site butchered meats and deli items. Only 15 minutes away in Cortez, you can enjoy a variety of ethnic restaurants offering Thai, Mexican, sushi, or down-home BBQ and breakfast joints. Summer brings oodles of produce to our local farmers market on Saturday mornings in Cortez and Wednesday afternoons in Dolores. There are boat, kayak, and paddle board rentals to round out water play on the Dolores River and McPhee reservoir and bicycle rentals are available.
  • Jeanne was a great host! Attentive and helpful, and her space was clean, thoughtfully decorated, and had a super comfy bed. The windows show a great view of the countryside, we woke up to a winter wonderland! Highly recommended.

  • Amazing space, we got in late and took off before sunrise on a road trip.. so I was sad not to see the outdoor space BUT from the stars to the shower it was perfect perfect perfect

  • Gorgeous location; beautiful, cozy little space; everything you could possibly need. Jeanne is incredibly kind and welcoming and gracious. Loved staying here! Hope very much to be back!

  • Jeanne was an absolutely wonderful host with a fun and cheeky personality. She welcomed my boyfriend and I into the Moon Room with open arms and warm hospitality. It was a great break from the hustle and bustle of regular life. We particularly loved watching the beautiful sunset from her the trails encircling her property - we even saw elk during our walk! The hot tub under the stars was a great way to wind down the day too. If Jeanne is willing, she is an incredible artist, and you should definitely take the time to see her creations. It was incredibly special to her art with her. The Moon Room itself has many cute touches and a wonderful eclectic flair. We loved the decorations, comfy bed, and outstanding views of Mesa Verde to wake up to. This is my second time staying with Jeanne, and I would definitely come back and recommend it to others.

  • Amazing place! Everything was absolutely fabulous. Place was super clean, great host, perfect location between durango and purgatory resort. Hot tub, pool and gym in the complex were a great plus! Don't be discouraged by the slightly outdated style of the hallways of the complex, once you come in the studio everything is new and spot clean. The king bed is super comfortable! One bedroom unit in Angel Haus condominium building on Durango Mountain/Purgatory. Purgatory is a mountain village/resort 25 miles north of Durango city proper (although they share the same zip code). Our unit is newly renovated , though the finishing touches remain to be completed, it is fresh and open. Everything you need to prepare and eat food, sleep and shower is provided. Summer activities are abundant, fall is breathtaking and the lifts are less than 200 steps away during ski season.
Angel Haus is an older building but with our recent renovation and reasonable prices our unit should be appealing. The living area is open to kitchen, and dining area with a 50" mounted TV that has ability to be pulled and turned in order to see in both kitchen and dining areas while cooking and/or eating. There is a balcony with propane BBQ and chairs, another TV w/BluRay player in bedroom.
There is a HUGE back country area you can access with high clearance vehicles. Edible cooking mushrooms are available for picking during summer/fall, but please educate yourself before hunting them because there are poisonous and hallucinogen mushrooms as well. Mountain biking, fishing, hiking, cross country skiing, kayaking/canoeing/paddle-boarding, horseback riding, and tubing, are all popular activities hosted in the vicinity. Of course, only in addition to SKIING and SNOW BOARDING (what the resort was built on). The plaza offers a host of activities during the summer and the new "mountain coaster" will be open during all the "seasons" (though not necessarily every day year round- "shoulder seasons" exist between summer/fall & winter, then again between winter & spring/summer- call resort or check website for projected dates of activities). Christmas/New Year's is a big deal at Purgatory- Santa, sleds, sleighs, and fireworks. It is not uncommon to book a year in advance for that time. If you want to travel there are mineral pools at Ouray, Trimble and Pagosa. And, Durango and Silverton offer historic downtown experiences while the Durango Silverton train offers scenic trips between the two locales. Cortez is gaining notoriety for its wineries and restaurants in addition to the Mesa Verde National Park.
  • Great location only a short walk from the main ski lift. The place was very clean and contained everything you could need. Lisa is very friendly and quick to respond to questions. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay whilst skiing Purgatory.

The space was even better equipped than advertised, with thoughtful touches like sandwich bags in the kitchen, Netflix, and in super comfortable foam mattress topper in the bedroom. Lisa is very kind and responsive, too. We’ll absolutely book again for our next trip to Purgatory!

  • My husband and I had a great little ski trip based out of David's place. Cozy studio, very clean, and well stocked. A short walk to the lifts, but not too bad. We walked over with our gear in our regular shoes and rented a locker. Use of the resort hot tub at the end of skiing was spectacular! The murphy bed was comfortable enough, I did miss my king bed at home. I would stay again for sure.

    Michele2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • I’ve been skiing here since I was a kid and I’m pretty sure this is one of the older condominiums but you would never know it! David has made this a quaint, clean, modern studio, perfect for 2 or a small family. Highly recommend.

    Suzanne2020-02-13T00:00:00Z

  • David’s place is just perfect! Only steps away from the ski lift and very pretty views. The place is so nice and clean, very cute and perfect size for a couples get away to the mountain. Amenities were so very nice and thoughtful. Will definitely be coming back and staying here soon.

    Reid2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • David’s place is great! Much bigger than any studio we’ve stayed in at Purgatory before. Can’t beat it!

    Melissa2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • David's place was clean and had great amenities including kitchen appliances and a boot dryer! Relatively short walk to the main gondola which was convenient and there was also a ski back to condo option which was ideal after long days of skiing! Would recommend his place for anyone looking for location/convenience for a ski trip.

Camp Kush is located in the Great Sage Plain at the edge of the Colorado Plateau in the shadow of Mesa Verde National Park with panoramic mountain/mesa views of the Four Corners region, all only 5 miles southeast of Cortez. Small RV's and trailers are welcome though we don't have space for large RVs & there are no full hook-ups. We have private couple’s or family cabins, shared hostel-style cabins with bunk beds, tent and vehicle sites, a community kitchen, vault toilets and hot showers.
Camp Kush is a reclaimed children’s church camp (Camp Christa). Each summer churches from all over the southwest would bring kids for week-long camps. It used to house up to 100 kids at a time! We bought it in April 2018 and reopened it as cannabis friendly campground, hostel & event center for grown-ups to enjoy. We are a cannabis friendly destination & are inclusive! Cool folks of any ethnic background, national origin or religion as well as hippies, hunters, freaks, queers are all welcome here!
We're in a rural residential area where lots are large- 40+ acres generally, so its not really a neighborhood. We're happy to give you the local's only hook-up to find hikes, ruins, swimming holes, lakes/rivers, hot springs, tacos, coffee, cannabis, a spot to rent kayaks, bikes- you name it! Just ask.
  • Great camp, beautiful views, and great amenities. What more could you ask for? Jen was so helpful in letting us into camp with our late arrival, and she was very prompt with communication and providing directions on how to get there.

    Cody2020-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Plenty of space to cook, enjoy sunset and sunrise. Showers hot. Quiet at night. Beautiful surroundings. Great value.

  • The hosts are very nice, very accommodating. There are all on site, kitchen showers and toilets

    Gina2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This camp is awesome! We changed plans last minute so we needed a place to sleep in Cortez that night. Any and Jen helped us check in just a minute or two before we pulled into camp and helped us find our spot! The wildlife and nature is beautiful, we loved the cute pups, and the stars were beautiful. The toilets and showers were very clean, and we overall loved it here.

    Codi2019-09-01T00:00:00Z

Enjoy Durango like a local in our fully furnished Glamping Tipi! Modern, rustic southwestern design full of Instagramable moments. This experience is hosted by the Andrew family - long time locals and vacation rental Superhosts. Come get a five star glamping experience with the privacy you crave for your mountain vacation, the perfect basecamp for your four-corners adventure, where the desert and the mountains meet!
This forested site includes on-site parking and a gravel walkway to our 20 foot Tipi. The space is furnished with a queen size bed, linens, extra blankets, locally roasted coffee, and more to make your stay memorable and comfortable! Wake up to incredible mountain views right outside. The site is equipped with Wifi, electricity and potable water (for drinking and cooking). There is a regularly cleaned portable toilet on the property, but no showers at this time. Well behaved, voice-controlled dogs are welcome! The historic Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad goes through our backyard and blows the train whistle 5-10x/day. We are also along the highway so road noise is unavoidable. We have never had an issue with a renter or guest complaining, but if you are sensitive to noise, this hot spot may not be for you! We also feel we should let you know that we have a friendly, but large, hypoallergenic Labradoodle named Shawn that loves to explore the property. Please let us know ahead of time if you would prefer to avoid dog visits and we will do our best to keep him on a leash, otherwise, you may get to meet Shawn while he's out doing his daily survey of the yard. Follow us and share your own experience on Instagram @durangolikealocal and #durangolikealocal.
This hidden gem is located in between historic downtown Durango and Purgatory ski resort, right along the infamous million dollar highway loop through Silverton, Ouray and Telluride. Enjoy gorgeous views of the red Animas cliffs along with nearby local attractions such as the Durango Narrow Gauge Railroad, Honeyville, and James Ranch.

  • Norm’s place was so quaint and cozy, located very close to one of the main lifts (walking distance) to Purgatory ski area. Access to the place was easy and he had all of the bases covered for things you need during your stay. We really enjoyed our time there and plan on returning for our next trip to Purgatory!

  • We loved staying at Norm’s place! It was crystal clean with all the amenities we needed. We made a fire our last night and grilled out - both excellent. The fire was nice for a cool fall evening and access to a grill off the porch was even better. The location was perfect to explore Durango, Silverton, and Ouray. We’ve already discussed coming back for ski season. Thank you for a wonderful place to stay, Norm!

Centrally located for lots of outdoor adventure! Close to Dolores River, McPhee Reservoir, Mesa Verde National Park, 4 Corners, Ute Mountain and Casino's, Cortez, Anasazi Center, great views, and restaurants and dining. Good for Couples, solo adventurers, Hunters, ski trips, cozy get-a-way and business travelers. Nice clean place with everything you need after a day of 4 corners adventure!
The loft is in a beautiful campground setting with breathtaking views of the Mesas and Ute mountain. Lots of land to explore a campground setting without sacrificing amenities.! The LOFT STUDIO has a King size bed and room to add more sleeping if needed (we have a raised full size blow up mattress if needed. Please let us know ahead of time, so we can have itcready for you. It has a full kitchen (stocked with dishes, pans, towels). You will have access to a microwave, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, 2 sinks with garbage disposal, Gas stove top and electric start gas oven and a coffee pot. There is a small work area/desk, a kitchen table, a dresser, and 2 chairs (one recliner). Located in the "attic" of the CLUBHOUSE on Circle C RV Campground,. You have use of the restrooms and shower down the steps (shared with Cabin and Tent guests). The view of the Ute and Mesa Verde Mountain just outside the window is breath-taking, and you might even see the area wildlife (see the pic of the deer I took?) This could be perfect if you just need a night or two down time to continue driving the next day, and/or if you do not have a camper, to still enjoy a campground environment without roughing it. It could also be a romantic get-a-way! Explore down at the tent sites for beautiful scenic views!
This a very quiet relaxing setting with a great view of sunsets and sunrises on the Ute Mountains. It is 2 miles west of Dolores and about 6 or 7 miles East of Cortez, along state highway 145 that goes to Telluride. The campground is in a rural area 2 miles from Dolores and 8 miles to Cortez. We are off 145 highway, easy access and somewhat remote at the same time.
  • Great place, very clean with a lot of amenities we didn’t take advantage of. I didn’t have the chance to meet Lana but she was super responsive to texts and we had no issues. Location gives quick access to Cortez, Mesa Verde, and Canyons of the Ancients.

    Matthew2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • The Loft is a great place on a budget. I drew back the curtains at night and had a great view of Cortez under a sky full of stars.

    Mary2019-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place for resting, relaxing, and socializing. Lana clearly works hard to maintain high standards. Communication is good, and the whole lift was great to chill out. I slept well and felt great. The kitchen is set up well and the bathrooms and showed are clean and spacious. Worth it!

    Chris2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place is fantastic. We were looking for inexpensive, comfortable, and all the conveniences. Loved having a kitchen to cook in and AC in this awesome location to drive up, shower, and rest after a day of hiking.

    Amanda2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the loft for a week and found that it was within driving distance to many tourist sites. The description of the loft is accurate. You have to share the bathrooms with other guests and campers, but it was nice that they were right downstairs, you didn’t have to go outside. The view from the loft window is amazing. We will definitely stay here again if we’re ever back in the area.

  • We stayed 2 weeks during the pandemic since we got stuck in the US. Couldn't have imagined a better place to get stuck! Great house, beautiful views, quiet environment, fireplace, amazing hosts and at very good breakfast! Better than we thought – way more beautiful than on the photos. Did the Sand Canyon hike which is quite amazing :)

  • We loved our stay at Mountain View Lodge! JanElle and her family were so incredibly welcoming and helpful, and breakfasts were phenomenal. The space is large and cozy with beautiful views of Ute Mountain. Ten to fifteen minutes will take you into the town Cortez where we enjoyed the restaurants and breweries, as well as the Festival of Lights!

    Andra2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at JanElle's for one night after great, timely, clear communication. The accommodations were just what we'd hoped for, in fact, better even! The bed was super comfortable, the shower spacious and clean, and lots of amenities in the room. The night sky and view of the Milky Way was priceless. Breakfast was delicious as was the conversation that accompanied it. I have nothing but good things to say about our stay.

    Bilal2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • JanElle was quick to respond with questions and I had a good feeling even before we got there. Our room was spacious, clean, bed was very comfortable and we had our own thermostat control. We had our own sitting area with couches, TV, fridge and microwave, etc. Breakfast was a good start for the day particularly when heading to Mesa Verde. The location was great for eating out and we loved the view from her home along with the starry skies. Do not hesitate to book.

    Gail2019-10-19T00:00:00Z

The private patio is perfect for your animal companion and the shared spaces are very clean and welcoming. Our only comment is regarding the bed. My husband is 6-foot 2 and he was not comfortable because of footboard at the end. Just a heads up for tall people renting out there.

  • Best value with warm, friendly, and thoughtful host. Dogs welcome. Room in a small building with kitchen, showers, restroom facilities. Basic. The HOST makes the difference. Lana is personable; she gave superb hiking trail recommendations, made us feel right at home, and was available to answer any questions. This is THE PLACE to stay in Dolores / Cortez.

Mountain View Lodge's Wranglers' Roost is located in a pastoral setting in Southwest Colorado. The Western Suite is set up for groups of adults or families traveling together. There are pleasing views of Mesa Verde, wide open fields, Ute Mountain on the Ute Mountain tribe reservation, and on a clean day New Mexico and Arizona mountains. Along with a clean room we provide a filling breakfast to start your day of exploration in SW Colorado. We are a 15 minute drive to Mesa Verde National Park.
The Wranglers' Roost has space for 5 guests. There are two private rooms. One room with a king bed, one room with a queen bed, a single bed in a semi private space, and a futon bed in the suite sitting area. There is also a laptop friendly work space and wifi. Guests can enjoy ping pong, foosball, and board games in our game room. You can also use the large yard for corn hole or ladder ball which are available in the game room. Or just relax with a cup of coffee on the porch taking in the beautiful sunsets. At night you may want to enjoy s'mores around the fire ring or gaze at the millions of stars.
You may see our neighbors out and about on your visit. I am referring to the abundant wildlife in the area. We have a lot of mule deer here. Occasionally we also see elk, foxes, rabbits (cotton tails and jack rabbits), squirrels, lizards, and many birds including eagles and hawks. We hear coyotes and get sporadic reports of bears and mountain lions in the area.
  • JanElle's place feels so cozy! The rustic Americana vibe just makes you melt when you've been traveling all day. We had to make a last-minute reservation, but JanElle was super accomodating!

    Shane2020-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent host, excellent breakfast, and excellent location. Just 15 minutes from the entrance to Mesa Verde. I highly recommend JanElle’s place.

Elouisa is a groovy converted schoolbus situated on 36 gorgeous acres in the woods of Southwest Colorado, just 5 miles from Mesa Verde. Complete with kitchenette, super comfy queen size bed,and lots of private space to rest and retreat. Full bath with hot shower and sink and toilet. All private and for your use only.
This is one of the most unique airbnb places you may come across! Into the Wild anyone? This bus has been refurbished and made into a cozy home, nestled in the juniper and sagebrush, overlooking Mesa Verde and the town of Mancos. Close to town with still the out in the woods feel! Super cute, comfy and cozy setting! You will love it! It does NOT have running water inside the bus, but there is water for drinking and rinsing in the sink, both in jugs. There is running water (hot and cold) in the bathroom in the nearby building. ;) Elouisa is a cozy place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and a fantastic stop over on your way through Southwestern Colorado. Whether you are looking for a unique get-away, wanting an easy stop-over on your drive through, seeking a jump-off base for nearby adventures or just want to relax in the woods with a good read, this amazing hippie bus is a perfect place to be. Elouisa has retired from life on the road. In her hay-day, Elouisa was traveling home to many. She's seen a lot in her day. Now, she's ready to settle down. This is a peaceful space, where the sounds of nature and country neighbors offer distant companionship. The heater will keep you warm on chilly winter nights. The views from the many windows are of surrounding forests and wildlife. Basic kitchen amenities are provided (small fridge, stove, toaster, kettle, dishes, silverware, etc). Organic coffee and an assortment of tea is provided. We provide bio-degradable soap, shampoo and conditioner, clean towels, etc. The bus has a composting toilet and a regular flushing toilet is in the shop nearby along with full hot shower and sink amenities. Proceeds from your visit will fund further permaculture development on the land, so rest assured, your footprint will be small and green while you visit here.
Mancos is a lovely community of artists, farmers and all around good peeps. There is much to do around the area from mountain biking to trail hiking to Mesa Verde National Park. The four corners region truly is a rich place to explore and the weather is pretty mild year round. Can be a little warm July and August, but the rains usually show up around then to cool off the afternoon heat! Downtown Mancos is one minute away or an easy walk to town, full of art galleries, a river path, Absolute Bakery (a must), great parks and who knows what magic may be about on any given day!
  • If you are even looking at this listing you're the type person who would LOVE this place just as much as I did. Between the sunset and the smell I couldn't tell you which was better. Amazing space!!

    Crystal2020-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful and wonderful space! The views from the bus are unparalleled. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

    Mia2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great experience all around.

    Sean2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Elouisa was a truly fun experience. Location is beautiful, Mancos was a real treasure of a tiny town (compared to nearby Cortez, which is more of a small city suburban vibe), and Sarah went out of her way to make sure that I was as comfortable as possible - space heater, mattress heater, extra blankets, and all - in the very thick of January winter (11*F lows that night!). I will say that the bus, predictably, tended to be on the cold side, but I had come prepared accordingly (hand warmers under the covers, wearing an extra layer or two to bed at night); the Shop bathroom was always very warm, and there was plenty of hot water for a long shower after a solid day of hiking in Mesa Verde. Whether you’re staying in winter or summer, might be helpful to understand that this is essentially glamping, rather than a high-end, en-suite, air-conditioned experience; candidly, that’s precisely what I enjoyed most about my stay, and I know that Sarah as a host truly went above and beyond to make it all the more enjoyable. Would gladly stay again, winter or summer alike!

    Jonathan2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place was so great! It was so relaxing, and you wake up to the sunlight pouring into your windows, accompanied with an amazing view. The host was very kind, and we had an enjoyable conversation. Such a cool atmosphere and fun stay in a bus overnight! WE LOVED IT. I highly recommend it!

    Joshua2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • The 2 nights I stayed there, I thoroughly enjoyed it. staying there was being surrounded by nature. The host was friendly and attentive. I would definitely stay here again in the future. It's a nice peaceful getaway.

    Gregory2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had been eying this Airbnb for a while now and were so excited to get to stay there. Sarah was a great host. We loved the location, the bus, and the hot shower! Thanks for having us!

    Erin2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect place to crash overnight during a long road trip! Sarah gave us very helpful directions to find the bus. Driving up after dark was spooky, but waking up there was beautiful and refreshing! The bed is super comfy and the bathroom/shower were great! It was definitely an experience we’ll talk about forever!

  • The place was very easy to find and the house itself was extremely clean. The bed was super comfortable and we both loved the shower. Close enough to town for activities but far enough away from light that the stars are out in full force. Definitely recommend.

  • Frankly I thought it was a little expensive until I arrived. Well worth the price with vicinity to the city and yard space.

  • This space is extremely comfortable and the location is perfect. It was quiet, calm, and filled with all the amenities you could need—the local coffee they offer is also quite delicious! I was extremely impressed by the high level of accommodation given the incredible price point.

  • If you are thinking of staying here go for it!!! This tent is way more beautiful than you can tell from the pictures. The hosts are super nice and even allowed me to have multiple boxes delivered from Amazon to their house and dropped them off for me at the tent! They bring breakfast by every morning in a cooler(my fav part) and provide juices/coffee/water...The beds are ultra comfortable and they have heated blankets/heated mattress pads(heaven) I can't stress enough how kindhearted and genuinely welcoming the hosts are. The place is super beautiful but the family that hosts the tent really are the best part and they truly made it the highlight of my cross country roadtrip for sure. Looking forward to making it back one day!

    Brandon2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location, very thoughtful touches and a wonderful family!

    Glenn2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Try something new instead of the typical. Glamping gives you an opportunity to have an experience you won’t easily forget. The accommodations are super clean and more than you need. The location is close to many attractions while still affording excellent privacy and a super relaxing atmosphere. We were super warm even though outdoor temps at night were in the mid-forties.

    Joe2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Jacqueline’s place. The tent was lovely, really nicely set up and very comfortable. The kitchen was really well kitted out with everything you would need for cooking, including a gas stove and bbq. The bathroom is about 30 feet away, the composting toilet worked perfectly well and the shower was hot and plenty of water. It was lovely to sit on the deck in the evening amongst the beautiful scenery and wildlife, in complete peace and solitude. Mancos and Dolores are both about a 15 minute drive away, and have grocery stores and a few restaurants. Jacqueline, Randy and Seth were perfect hosts, very welcoming but not intrusive, keen to make sure everything was ok for us. They brought us our breakfast every morning in a cool box all ready to cook. If you like the outdoor bits of camping but don’t want to sleep on the floor, then I would highly recommend Jacqueline’s place.

    Sue2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Is 6 stars an option? Jacqueline’s place was amazing! Awesome views, comfy tent, and super thoughtful hosts. Everything about our experience, from checking in to getting fresh breakfast ingredients delivered every morning, was perfect. 10/10 would recommend!

    Quartney2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts, place was nicely decorated and beds were very comfortable. We were warm enough at night, but there were extra blankets if needed. On demand hot water so you could take a nice hot shower after a long day visiting several attractions.

  • I can’t say enough wonderful things about this stay. The setting is so beautiful and peaceful. Incredible details and truly warm and caring hosts. The kayaking was a relaxing, fun experience. My corgis were in doggie heaven. Thank you for creating such a perfect experience!

The home was very clean, and they had DOG BED!!! That in itself is amazing!! Very quiet neighborhood and super clean!!! Best place to stay, would recommend to everyone visiting that area!!!

  • My daughters found the place comfortable and clean. Liked the private driveway to park the car that was packed full. Fenced backyard for the dogs to run and play after long periods in the car; there were bowls for the dogs to have water/food. The Girls were able to do their laundry and have a peaceful night’s rest.

Only 8 plus miles to a variety of restaurants in Durango. Enjoy cool mountain breezes, and great pine views from an 8200 ft. elev private patio w BBQ. A spacious room w/ private bath & private outside entry separated by 2 doors from attached architect/owner-designed home - good for couples, singles, adventurers, business travelers, or small family of 3 or 4.
Located on 6 acres of a quiet forested mountain at 8200 feet elevation Featuring a private outside entry and patio, this room is spacious w/ a private BR w/ shower. Separated by 2 doors & foyer from our personal living space. Wood paneling, natural colors & artwork create a forest ambiance. The firm but plush top queen bed is very comfortable....and the fold down futon is firm but fine for kids. Extra blankets available. We have a partial kitchen with sink, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, hotplate, refrigerator, and cleaning products. At this altitude, air conditioning is generally not needed in the summer months but we do have a ceiling fan, box fan and portable evaporator cooler. A heater will keep you cozy during cool mornings. Good lighting & Direct TV
Because we are on 6 acres, we are not too close to our neighbors....within sight but not sound. We sometimes see deer, turkey, and a rare bear here. The birds are also plentiful in the summer, especially the hummingbirds because we have feeders on our deck. Our driveway is about 200 feet from the street to the house. Hiking areas nearby. Plenty of snow in the winter into early spring.
  • Beautiful

  • Such an amazingly clean and organized space! Comfortable bed, comfortable sofa, the room was well stocked with lovely kitchen items and plenty of coffee and hot chocolate to drink. Muffins and fresh fruit made breakfast a breeze. We saw deer, had a fire, and spent hours in the outdoor swing. Most importantly, teaching my college-age son how to interact with strangers and assess safety of situations, Carol and Mike were great conversationalists and co-teachers :-) Certainly not their responsibility, but I appreciated him seeing good people out in the world!!

  • Carol and Mike were the best Host's me and my friends could have asked for. Kind, Welcoming, and Transparent. 10/10 will come back!

    Juan2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic experience staying with Carol. The space is quiet, clean, and cozy. It has everything you could need and more. The description is accurate, and yet does not capture what a lovely place it is. It is close enough to town to easily head in for a meal or to wander downtown Durango, but far enough away from town that you feel as if it’s just you in the mountains. Communication with Carol when we had an unexpected delay was easy and prompt. We really enjoyed talking with Carol and Mike, who provided us with great recommendations and stories. We would absolutely stay here again!

    Karl2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first time trying Airbnb & I must say Carol has definitely set the bar really high! The room looked just like the photos, everything was so clean and homey. The bed was very comfortable & the view from our window was absolutely gorgeous! Everything was clean, private and very comfortable. Would most definitely stay here again.

  • Wonderful place and great hosts. Homemade pumpkin cookies as a bonus. You will not be disappointed.

    David2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • As advertised beautiful area and beautiful home. Enjoyed our stay!

Centrally located for lots of outdoor adventure! Close to Dolores River, McPhee Reservoir, Mesa Verde National Park, 4 Corners, Ute Mountain and Casino's, Cortez, Anasazi Center, great views, and restaurants and dining. Good for Couples, solo adventurers, hunters, rafters or just a cozy get-a-way. Come relax around your campfire and enjoy breathtaking views from your cozy cabin.
Cozy Cabin with kitchenette, gas stove, futon style bunk bed with full size mattress on bottom and twin on top, windows, fan for the summer and propane heater for winter months. The heater is rated as a ventless propane heater and these are allowed in the state of Colorado. However, please take extra precaution not to run continually without opening a window as ventless propane heaters still do degrade air quality in confined spaces. Small microwave, mini frig, coffee pot, dishes. Cold running drinkable water in summer months (No running water during winter months, but we provide bottled water for coffee, cooking, etc.) Fire pit outside. NO RESTROOM IN CABIN but a short walk to the Clubhouse (apx 100 feet) there are restrooms and showers which are shared by other campers. This Cabin is in a Campground/RV Park setting on 15 acres.
Awesome outdoor adventure minutes around the corner (Dolores River, Mcphee Reservoir, Mesa Verde National Park, Anasazi Heritage Center, Boggy Draw Bike Trail, Hiking Trails, Eating and Breweries). Moab is only 2 hours and Telluride is 60 miles, also.
  • Great place to stay!

  • Lana's cabin is a small "tiny-home" type place. It is perfect for 2 people although since there's a bunk bed I could see three people sleeping here. We came during the winter, so there was lots of snow on the ground. The grounds aren't salted so our little car couldn't get all the way up to the cabin (but it got close enough to bring our things in) The bathrooms and showers are a walk across the way - it isn't a long walk if it's not freezing outside, in the freezing weather at night it was difficult to do. Lana left us plenty of water to drink and make coffee with, since the pipes must have been frozen so we didn't have running water in the cabin itself during our 1 night stay. The heater is propane fueled, so if you have any reservations of sleeping with a propane fire then be aware of that. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone passing through for the night during warmer months as the weather in that area is very inclement during the winter months!

    Emily2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little tiny house. Exactly as described. It was minus 14 overnight and the heater and blankets kept us super warm. Our pup loved it too. Check in and directions were a breeze. Highly recommend!

    Samantha2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • It was freezing cold, but the bed was so soft and cozy! The stars were bright and beautiful and there were some great views. Lovely spot, easy access to clean bathrooms, nice set up in the kitchen. We had a blast!

    Nicole2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lana’s cabin is a nice stay. Lana does good job communicating in her description of the cabin. And all the info for the campground amenities are provided for you in the cabin. The views are great.

    Charles2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lana was very helpful! This tiny house was perfect for my mom and me. The views are spectacular. We will be back for a longer stay soon.

    Rose Mary2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Lana’s place was adorably small and the stars were so bright from there, a precious place nestled in a cute Coloradan town.

  • Absolutely wonderful. You have to meet Wendy

    Stefanel2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Green Snow Oasis cabins. Wendy is a wonderful host and is always around to make sure her guests feel comfortable. The cabins are in a beautiful location, with the river running behind it. We could get to the nearby towns easily and had a great time fishing in the river and exploring the area! Will definitely stay at this cabin next time we visit Dolores!

    Rashmi2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • You couldn't ask for better hosts! Great location. River access.

    Rachelle2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived late to Wendy’s place, but she still helped us carry our bags to the door and was extremely hospitable! The cabin has many amenities and is a short walk from the Dolores River! As we were leaving, Wendy helped us carry our bags, once again, and she gave many tips for camping and the area in general! We will definitely return :)

    Cera2019-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy is such a hospitable and caring host. After being at the cabin for 3 days we felt like family and it was hard to leave. If you want a luxurious hotel room Wendy's cabins are probably not for you. If you want a more semi rustic experience being in a quiet area of the San Juan Mountains surrounded by nature with the best host you could ask for, you will love the cabins! The cabins are certainly well equipped with everything needed for cooking your own food on the stove or a grill. About 20 minutes away is Trout Lake, Wilson Peak and Lizard Head Pass. For sure some of the most scenic areas in all Colorado and probably the US! About 40 minutes away is Telluride.

    Colin2019-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy’s place was incredible. We were completely blown away! From Wendy’s hospitality, to the outstanding location, to the pristine accommodations... our only regret was that we could not stay longer. Thank you!

    Lisa2019-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy cabin in a beautiful location. Wendy was great: supplied firewood, matches, and lighter for the stove. She was extremely nice and gave some pointers regarding things to check out on our trip, which turned out to be great advice.

The amenities around the resort can keep you as busy as you want to be, or just kicking back in our “Bear Cave” snuggled up to a cozy fire enjoying each others company.
Many of your neighbors actually live at the resort. Remember that all the units are privately owned .
  • great cozy sweeeeet.

  • Second time staying here and we once again had a wonderful stay:)

    Melanie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed staying at Kelly's apartment for 4 days. The apartment is very tastefully decorated , well equipped, and very clean. It is very small, but we felt comfortable, and it had everything we needed. We appreciated staying so close to the slopes. We also took advantage of the sauna on the premises to relax afterwards. We highly recommend it.

    Krystyna2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay. The condo is small but has everything you need. Well appointed kitchen. Wish we had more time to start a fire and play games! We were able to enjoy the hot tub (don’t forget to bring your bathing suit!). We skied the whole time and it was a great location for Purgatory. We rented a car and it was only 5 min to the mountain. They also have a shuttle but we ended up not using it.

    Haley2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this place! So cute and perfect for two. We would definitely stay here again. We didn’t end up using the shuttle provided at the lodge, we drove to purgatory resort to ski but the drive was only about 2-4 minutes max. Great location!

    Kaley2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Bear Cave was perfect for what we were wanting. It has so many small touches that we enjoyed. If you are going to Purgatory, it is the perfect location. We are looking forward to next time!

    Whitney2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place. Small but comfortable. Great location - short drive to Purgatory (5 min), 30 min to Durango and 40-50 min to Silverton ski area (the unique one -- highly recommend for good powder skiers).

    Michael2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the Bear Cave was wonderful! It was the perfect size for my fiancé & I. They provided everything you need, including firewood for the fireplace & basic spices for cooking. It was nice to have a kitchenette to save money & avoid dining out. Word of advice: If you plan to cook, use the electric copper skillet provided in the cabinet. It is way more efficient than the hot plates. The ski shuttle picks up & departs every 30 minutes for Cascade Village making it super convenient for skiers. We plan to return to the Bear Cave in the coming years.
