Firetail Bush Retreat is named in honour of one of the many bird species here - "Beautiful Firetails." It is a fully self-contained cottage which includes a large lounge and sunny king size bedroom (overlooking the surrounding hills). It has a cosy log fire, large parking area, private deck off the bedroom, outdoor BBQ, TV and ipod dock, books and magazines, movies and games, WiFi internet access and your own kitchen and bathroom. Couples and singles only - we do not accommodate babies, children, pets or additional guests sorry. As our guests you have access to an outdoor jacuzzi (book an evening timeslot with us to use it after you arrive), where you can sip a glass of Tassie pinot noir, listen to the owls, watch the wildlife bounce past and count the stars. You have your own private entrance which is accessed via stairs off the carpark. The listing is on 6 acres of bush, with abundant wildlife and your rustic but very comfortable cottage is built to a traditional Aussie bush theme (stone, iron and wood). The bathroom has a shower over the bath, toilet, vanity and a washing machine. There are various options if your prefer to eat out, including pub meals at the Oyster Cove Marina (no meals on Sunday nights), Bruny Island Gateway Cafe at the ferry terminal, Steamhouse Cafe, or go to the local sheep cheesery (Grandvewe) and cook yourselves up a storm in the fully equipped kitchen (basic condiments provided - salt/pepper/milk/oil, etc). A cash only pizza trailer (Zeps) is currently operating in Kettering Friday and Sat nights (details on the fridge). Alternatively it's only 10mins drive south to the award winning Peppermint Bay for drinks/meals on the waterfront in nearby Woodbridge (check hours). The townships of Kingston, Cygnet and Huonville are only a short drive and there is also a local store with basic groceries and fuel at the end of our road and a small grocer at oyster cove (typically open until around 7pm). Kettering is rural however (ie. no supermarkets) so be sure to pick up your supplies on your way down. There is an IGA supermarket at Snug and Kingston has several large supermarkets. Local attractions: - Bruny Island (beaches, cheese, berries, bushwalking, kayaking, boating, oysters, chocolate, cafes, art, wildlife (penguins, seabirds, white wallabies, seals, etc)) - Boutique local wineries - Local markets with handmade items and produce. - Local gourmet chocolatier - Snug falls bushwalk - Alum cliffs track (starts at Kingston Beach at the mouth of Browns River) - Antiques and collectables at The Margate Train - Fishing and diving - Country drives to quaint towns (eg. Cygnet, with its exeptional cafe fare and interesting shops) - 35 mins to Hobart - Salamanca markets (saturdays), Farmers market (Sundays), Mt Wellington, MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) - Bird watching and bushwalking - Relaxation - Golf Firetail is situated in the hills of Kettering, 35mins south of Hobart down the D'Entrecasteux Channel and about 2kms off the main Channel Hwy (where there is a bus stop taking you into Hobart. It is a pleasant but longish walk from the house). Kettering is what you might call comfortable bush living, with a large marina down the road and is the jumping off point for gourmet and beach travelling on Bruny Island. Golfing guests with your own clubs - there is a very well maintained and scenic (overlooking North West Bay) 18 hole golf course only 15 mins drive away. For public access times check with North West Bay Golf Club.
Rural community living at its best, just half an hour out of the capital city and 2 minutes drive to the water. Sharing our home with an abundance of wildlife.

A private getaway just 30 minutes from downtown Hobart, with views over Oyster Cove to Bruny Island. Ideal for a peaceful family getaway, or a romantic retreat. Stay in a modern architect-designed home that is very comfortably furnished and has everything you need provided. Every bedroom has picturesque views over the surrounding bushland and water, a built-in or walk-in robe and, most importantly, an incredibly comfortable bed to guarantee a wonderful night’s sleep.
The house has ducted heating with a separate fire, and the bathrooms have underfloor heating. In the summer, you can eat on the NE-facing deck (outside table/benches and Weber BBQ provided, as well as separate chairs and sun lounger), and in the winter, in the large open-plan kitchen and dining area overlooking Oyster Cove. The well-appointed kitchen has quality appliances including induction cooktop, microwave, and a butler's pantry, and has plenty of utensils provided. And if you do need to get some work done, there’s a separate study. There are some great places to eat and drink nearby, including on Bruny Island. The ferry wharf is a few minutes’ drive away. When you need supplies, the Oyster Cove Fruit & Vegetable (and much more) store is back on the main road, or you can drive a few minutes more into Kettering. For a full supermarket shop, the big supermarkets in Kingston are just 15 minutes away. From the property, there are numerous local walking options. You'll often see wallabies and echidnas wandering around enjoying the peace and quiet. You can venture further afield using the two bikes provided as well… but you might be happiest just chilling out at the house. If you have a young family, we have two campbeds (comfortable ones) for young kids, and a portacot, high chair, and baby bath for even younger ones. All those beds are additional to those listed under specific bedrooms on this listing. The campbeds would need to be set up in a bedroom, though, as the living area does not have curtains or blinds. Please do come and visit our little piece of tranquillity just half an hour from Hobart.
  • The views at Chris' place are breathtaking. It's very private but has everything you will need during your stay. We will be back!

    Chrissy2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • The views during daytime and the stars at night are just fantastic! The house itself is very comfortable, especially the huge couches. There is a great small grocery store very close by (where you turn off from Channel Hwy) and wallabies jumping in the garden.

  • We found Shuckers Retreat to be everything we expected and more. We were a family of 6 adults and we were delighted with the location and amenities. Everything was clean and of a high quality and with extras like pantry food items in case you ran out. The house was well designed for privacy if needed and with great views from every room. We give Shuckers Retreat our highest score. Alan + Val

  • We loved our 5 night stay. A perfect respite from NSW fires and smoke. Didn’t see Chris or Sue, but had good communication with them. Very thoughtful interactions. Fabulous cottage and location; as shown in the pictures (better in fact). Great space. Quiet, secluded, private. Lovely furnishings. Comfortable bed & pillows. Great array of kitchen implements. Lots of resources to help make a meal (eg. Rice, sauces, etc). Washing machine and rack were great assets to those who have been travelling a while. Lots of little, thoughtful extras eg. torch, DVDs, magazines & books, bug spray, hose, tissues, scissors. This is definitely a five star, super establishment. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

  • Really nice guest house with well-equipped kitchenette. Read many comments about the sunset view, its a pity that we had no chance to experience it as we arrived late and left early the next day. Host is really helpful, got reminded that I left something important behind and it was easy to retrieve it back. Highly recommend staying there if you are looking for accommodation near Hobart.

  • This cottage is amazing! Stylish decor, lots of room to relax, great location for exploring the region and wonderful views. To top it off Ruth and Phillip are great hosts!

    Alison2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem of a find! We absolutely loved Ruth and Phillip’s cottage. We have stayed in many Airbnb’s and we think this place ranks pretty high on our list. The cottage is clean, cosy (with a slow combustion wood heater) and has everything you could want for a luxurious stay. The designs elements are thoughtful and smart. The location is perfect for those wishing to explore the Huon Valley and Bruny Island (with a car). Ruth and Phillip were warm and friendly hosts. Thank you so much for sharing your little piece of paradise with us!

    Jane2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • I particularly appreciated the Retreat's idyllic location. The view from each window was to tree-lined hills and, from the kitchen window, to an old apple tree. Ruth provided excellent information on local wildlife and short walks. The Retreat itself is beautifully presented, light-filled, spacious and warm. Highly recommended if you're after a place to rest and re-energise or to work in tranquillity.

    Sonja2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Ruth and Phillip's place is an absolute dream. The location is great, set in the hills of the Huon Valley, and a short drive to the small town of Cygnet. It is also only a 20 minute drive to the Bruny Island Ferry port. My partner and I were looking for a place to getaway and relax, and this place certainly delivered. The house itself is beautifully designed, extremely comfortable, with all the amenities you could possibly need. We spent the evenings cooking on the outdoor fire, listening to the birds and looking out for passing Pademelons and once it got dark, snuggled up by the indoor fire. I can't recommend this place enough. We will definitely be returning for another relaxing getaway!

  • As described. The Retreat is lovely get away for couples. We had a last minute booking, Ruth could not have been more accommodating. Was a perfect mid road trip destination for us.

  • What an amazing cottage for that getaway just to chill and relax! Very clean and well set up, even yummy breakfast provisions. Very comfy bed! Well done Ruth and Phillip!

    Christine2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Ruth and Philip's place is a treat. Quiet and secluded, in a beautiful setting overlooking farmland and forest. Gorgeously furnished. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable king-size bed with crisp white linen, and great bathroom (especially the shower!). Rugs and cushions and potbelly stove keep the space snug when the sun goes down. Lots of thoughtful touches, including snacks! We had a wallaby visitor and loved the miniature ponies in the field over the road. Cygnet is a pretty village with great cafes and very friendly locals. Dinner at the Thai eatery down the road was special. Highly recommend. Thank you Ruth and Philip - we had a lovely time.

  • Clear Creek Cottage is a lovely, comfortable and sparkling clean cabin in a great location. Up a quiet lane surrounded by small acreages it is peaceful and within walking distance to Peppermint Bay and the centre of tiny, pretty Woodbridge. Tony and Liz are lovely and made our stay very comfortable. The little deck outside was great when the weather cooperated. All round easy, great stay. Thanks Tony and Liz!

    Maria2019-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tony and Liz's place. Great views of farmland and the blue water of the channel; a gorgeous little cottage, complete with wood stove and warm bathrobes; and the goats!!!! We had the best time. Highly recommended.

  • Clear Creek Cottage surpassed all our expectations and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering the area for a stay. The cottage has wonderful character and all the amenities you could ask for. The location is a fantastic base for exploring all the picturesque little towns around and the hosts were just lovely. It's a 10 out of 10 from me!

The Studio is a private, sunny, warm and spacious free-standing cottage in a rural setting, with sea-views. With a queen bed in a split level bedroom, it is perfect for a couple (extra bed for child). Healthy, vegetarian breakfast provisions can be pre-ordered and you would cook your own breakfast in the kitchen in the Studio. We don't keep breakfast supplies on hand and need to buy these, so please give us at least 36 hours notice.
We are a vineyard in a 12-acre rural setting. We offer generous vegetarian breakfast provisions at an additional $16 per person, per day, and you would cook your own breakfast at your leisure in your accommodation. We have two cottages, which are free-standing, private, peaceful, spacious, sunny and warm. Both have lovely rural and sea views cottage looking across to Bruny Island. They also have a wood fire and you will arrive to a cosy and warm cottage with the fire already lit on a chilly day. The Studio is at the top of the property and has an open-plan bedroom up a step from the living area. You can lie in the queen bed after a peaceful sleep and admire the rural and bush setting from one window and the water-view from the others. While this cottage is best suited for a couple, a single bed can be set up for a child in the same room. This cottage is wheel-chair friendly, although as mentioned, the bedroom is up a step. The tariff is per couple sharing per night on a self-catering basis. As mentioned, for an additional cost, we will supply generous breakfast provisions, which includes a loaf of a fresh home-made bread. You can also enjoy one of our bottles of wine ($30 for the Pinot Noir and $25 for the Muller Thurgau) in front of the log fire, or out in the garden. We also supply a range of reasonably-priced dinner provisions and snacks for you to cook up a storm, if you feel like eating at home.
Kettering is a small village with some interesting places to visit. We have a local chocolatier who makes the most exquisite chocolates almost too beautiful to eat! There are a couple of local restaurants: Pasha's Turkish restaurant in Ferry Road provides delicious food (takeaway or eat-in), with a good range for vegetarians. They are currently open Wednesday- Sunday. The Oyster Cove Inn has gorgeous views of the Kettering Marina and is an ideal place for a beer and a meal outside (closed Sunday evenings). It is a few minutes drive or an easy walk from Herons Rise Vineyard Accommodation. A slightly longer drive (about 4km) will take you to Peppermint Bay at Woodbridge, whose views over the D'entrecastueax Channel across to Bruny Island are gorgeous and the food is very good (open for dinner Thursday-Saturday). Phuongs Vietnamese restaurant between Snug and Margate is excellent value for money (closed Sundays and Mondays). We also have a roving pizza van in Kettering on Friday and Saturday nights - their pizzas are very good. Next to the Nutpatch chocolate shop, we have a small and popular coffee shop called the Steamhouse. At the ferry terminal, you will find Mermaid Cafe (now called Bruny Island Gatewaye), an ideal spot to have a coffee and a meal while you wait for the ferry for Bruny Island. A little further south, you will find Grandvewe Cheeses, who make cheeses from sheep's milk (and a gin and vodka from sheep's whey), and you can enjoy a free cheese-tasting, or coffee and a meal, as well as the lovely views (not open for dinner). A couple of kms beyond them is Pepperberries/Five Bob Cafe, which is open Thursday - Sunday (10am - 3pm) and the 3km sculpture trail on the property has new sculptures.

  • We enjoyed our stay at the studio at Herons Rise Vineyard. It was quiet and peaceful but only a short drive to a choice of places to eat. The Studio has a really efficient fire (freestanding) that warms the whole studio. The bed is comfortable with electric blanket. Even in midwinter we were comfortably warm all night. Everything you need has been thought of. Highly recommended.

  • The cottage is very peaceful, set in a vineyard overlooking the bay to Bruny Island. A Fully equipped kitchen, a cozy and warm sitting room set amongst the most picturesque farm/ vineyard setting complete with ducks, donkeys, chickens. We enjoyed a walk through the fruit trees and garden then sat by the fire with our cheese and olives. Scenery, oysters, boutique Tea store, fruit galore.... A peaceful but exciting stay. Highly recommended.

  • The studio is the most beautiful airbnb you could imagine. It looks out over lovely gardens and is set in a farm and a small vineyard. It is quiet, private and stylish. The queen bed is wonderfully comfortable and the bed linen is lovely. The shower is perfect. Helen greeted us warmly. She was very generous. Sbe left us port and chocolate. We made a great pasta with provisions she provided at minimal cost. Helen emailed us detailed information on what to do in the area. We only wished we could have stayed longer.

  • Thank you for providing the most peaceful, tranquil and magical place to stay this weekend! We both feel so refreshed and rejuvenated. :) Thank you, Helen, for taking us around to feed the birds and animals - it was so thoughtful of you and we loved it. We can’t wait to return again sometime in the near future! It was especially lovely to walk inside on arrival and be greeted by the lovely music, flowers, port and chocolate. What a dream! Hope to stay with you again soon.

  • A fantastic find. The attention to detail certainly made all the difference to our stay. The variety of cereals and treats provided allowed us to enjoy our breakfasts on the balcony and take in the superb views. John and Lyn were most accommodating to our needs and allowed us to park our motorcycle in their private garage. The Kitchen fairy topped up supplies & the bathroom fairy left fresh towels for our second day. Top class facility & welcoming hosts. Highly recommended.

Blue Gate Cottage is a quaint one bedroom cottage in a bush/rural setting. This self-contained cottage offers peace and quiet away from suburbia, yet is only 20 minutes from the Hobart CBD and is the ideal base from which to explore the Hobart, Huon, Channel & Bruny Island regions.
Blue Gate Cottage, is a charmingly rustic timber 1 bedroom home on our 5 acre property at the outskirts of Margate. The cottage is fully self contained making it suitable for both short and medium term stays. The kitchen has a fridge and a stove, there is a separate lounge room and in the bathroom there is a shower over a hip bath. The queen sized bed is upstairs, so the cottage best suits couples or singles and is not appropriate for young children. In winter there is a wood heater to keep you warm and cosy. In summer you can sit in the covered sitting area and watch the sunset as you enjoy a nice Tassie wine from one of the wineries in the Huon/Channel area. With trees, wallabies and natural beauty at your doorstep, this beautiful rural setting is the perfect location for some rest and relaxation or to come home to after a day of visiting the many tourist attractions in the Hobart, Channel and Huon areas.
Margate is the ideal base for the Huon and Channel areas. It is a short drive to the Kingston Shopping Centre to restock the essentials and not so essentials. Willie Smiths near Huonville or the Ferry to Bruny Island at Kettering are only a 20 minute drive away.
  • What a wonderful little cottage - it had all of the amenities and creature comforts of "home". Merv gave us excellent advice on local attractions and tasty fare. A lovely little wood fire, full kitchen, and laundry supplies for emergency washing. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud - exactly what you need after a long day of commuting - and toasty warm. We wish we could have stayed here longer. 5/5 ☆☆☆☆☆

  • Merv and Margaret's cottage was amazing! The place feels like a second home to us now. The hospitality was above and beyond, with Merv and Margaret both very personable and easy to get on with. We'd definitely recommend the cottage to our friends and anyone staying in the region. Thanks!

    Ben2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I stayed at Merv’s cottage whilst exploring Tasmania. The space is so so nice. Cosy, clean and unique, we loved the cottage. Merv provided ample amenities, ensuring you have all the kitchen and bathroom essentials you need. Thoughtful touches with the fridge stocked with eggs from their own chickens. Merv is super friendly and communication and check in was seamless. The house is located at the end of Merv and Margaret’s drive so they are nearby if you need, however, we had complete privacy. Would 100% recommend a stay here.

  • One of the best sites I've come across on Airbnb. Very quiet, and near the ferry to Bruny Island which is what we were looking for. In addition, it is close to Hobart and Mount Wellington. As for the house, very quiet and cozy. Everything is clean, the fireplace ready to light, and local products in the fridge that we had available (eggs and milk from your farm). The value is spectacular, I really recommend this house to stay as long as they can.

    Rafael2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second visit to Blue Gate Cottage and by no means my last, everything about the home and area is wonderful, it has all you need and is far enough away to escape the crowds but not too far so you join them if you want to. I love the peace and quiet , enjoy the birds singing and the lovely smell of various trees etc. Just Perfect.

Comfortable cabin on farm in the beautiful lower Huon-Channel area. Studio with a double bed, plus sofa bed available for 3rd person.
Our cabin provides a relaxing haven for 2-3 people in a peaceful coastal and rural location. The cabin is a small building close to the main farmhouse. It consists of three rooms: in the larger room are a double bed, wardrobe, sofa bed - available for bookings of 3, small lounge, and dining table, and, in an alcove, the kitchen. In the smaller rooms are the bathroom and separate toilet. All bedding, linen, crockery and utensils are provided. We have it listed as not suitable for children as we have a large farm dam not far from the house; also there is the possibility of snakes in summer. So we do not want children wandering around the farm unsupervised. If you have one or two children you can make a request for a booking; I need to be satisfied that you will supervise your child/ren properly so there is no danger to them. We provide seasonal fruit from the farm, plus breakfast provisions - tea and coffee (plunger and instant), butter and home-made jam. Due to everyone's different requirements and preferences, we no longer provide milk and bread. There are two excellent local supermarkets and a bakery in Cygnet. Wireless internet is available, though not a great connection. Mobile phone coverage is often poor.
We live on a 70 acre farm in a beautiful coastal area of southern Tasmania. Please note: we are not on Bruny Island; the ferry is about a 20 minute drive away. Day trips around the Huon and Channel areas are great from here; or Hobart and surrounds - but further away is a bit too far. There is a lot of native wildlife, such as pademelons (small wallabies) as well as birds. Shops, cafes, post office and other services are in Cygnet, a lovely small town about 9 km away. The lower Huon-Channel area has a lot to experience, including excellent food, lovely scenery and walks, swimming in summer, art galleries, the works! From the farm, it is lovely to go for a walk down to the bay, and around the shore (at low tide); there are also other spectacular bays and beaches not far away. This is a rural area, with no close neighbours except for some cows. There is a small settlement by the bay, about 600 metres from the farm.
  • Quiet, rural setting with a spacious apartment surrounded by bush, gorgeous views & a handful of alpacas. Easy road access to Huonville & Cygnet or a ferry trip to Bruny Island. Our hosts generous with both information & garden veggies. Could easily have stayed longer to explore the area. Thanks Sharon & Scott for a memorable stay.

Sharon has a beautiful vegetable garden which she can share with you. Don't hesitate, she will make you discover it and you will be amazed by what is there. Nothing special, functional, calm and complete for the accommodation. The dialogue before arrival is good, Sharon responds quickly to emails. To do again. This involves removing the blackberries and other weeds, replacing them with native species. This will greatly improve the available habitat for native animals both small and large. There are pademelons, quolls, devils and bandicoots as well as native hens ,masked lapwings and ducks. Note: -No smoking - Rainwater tanks only- water is precious so please use in moderation - Compost bin under sink for fruit/veggies. - Fire blanket(kitchen) and extinguisher(entranceway) - large line for clothes drying - please use laundromat in main street of Cygnet for washing clothes . - Access to oven in main house if required( just let us know in advance and we can arrange) - Picnic rugs/torches/umbrellas /esky/thermos/beach towels located in outdoor cupboard at entrance - Privacy of guests respected. However if you would like to sit and read by our slow combustion fire in main house or share a cuppa feel free to come in. - The walk in to Cygnet is really lovely, especially the length of Olbrichs road ,winding past pastures with cattle, sheep and horses. If you want to walk only one way, let us know in advance and we can help out. Although only a short drive to town, the feeling is one of seclusion , with stunning views and no close neighbours.
Cygnet is a very pretty and and vibrant town in the Huon Valley about 45mins drive from Hobart. Cafes in Cygnet, Franklin, Huonville and Woodbridge are great places to relax and enjoy the slower pace of life down here. Newly opened Port Cygnet Cannery serves fantastic food , sourced locally. Local produce is available in the town centre as well as access to well stocked supermarkets and butchers. Seasonal fruit and vegetables can also be found at roadside stalls throughout the valley. We have a fortnightly market ( Ist and 3rd Sundays)here in Cygnet featuring arts and crafts made by local artists produce sold by local farmers. There are also regular markets nearby towns - we can let you know where they are and when they're on. Usually quiet, Cygnet really buzzes during the Folk Festival each January.Great performers in all he venues around town and plenty of music outdoors in the parks and on the street too. We are happy to help with transport if you don't want to drive , walk or cycle in to town. If you've booked in for a Fat Pig Farm feast we can easily take you there and collect you afterwards- it's only just over the hill from us.Let us know when you're booking and we will make sure we're available. There are beautiful beaches and river front reserves only minutes away from Silver Creek Farm. The Huon river is over the hill and Drip Beach in Lymington is so peaceful. Burton's Reserve on the waterfront at Cygnet is a great spot for sitting and watching the birds then taking a gentle stroll on the well maintained path around the bay to the yacht club. Randalls Bay and Mickey's Beach are are short drive away and well worth a visit. There are walking tracks there, both beachside and up through pasture . The view from the top of the hill is really lovely. Perhaps you would prefer to spend most of your time here on the farm soaking up the atmosphere. If you want to feed our sheep they'll be so happy- they love being hand fed! Your visit might even coincide with a film screening at the Franklin Palais -feel like a local paying your $5 entry fee ,sitting up the back enjoying the movie in the beautifully maintained old venue.
  • We highly recommend Fiona and Richard place to any and every one. What an amazing place. We loved the decor, very well equipped kitchen and bathroom, amazingly clean and really comfortable. So many homely touches with the added bonus of fresh baked bread, and biscuits. Both Fiona and Richard were welcoming and friendly, nothing was a bother. The chickens were also friendly. Location was very convenient for us going to bruney island. We loved our stay and again thankyou. 10 out of 10 for value, comfort and friendliness. Do not hesitate to stay here as we will again.

  • Robert and Fiona’s little retro hideaway was perfect to get away from it all yet so close to the town of Cygnet which surprised us with plenty of fun places to shop and eat. Our hosts went to a lot of trouble to ensure we had all we needed and were helpful, thoughtful and discreet. We’d highly recommend their accommodation for anybody wanting a rural setting with no distractions other than the chickens and the abundant wildlife. Fantastic little outlook overlooking a pretty garden and a sunny deck to sit out on and enjoy a quiet drink. Thank you Robert and Fiona!

  • Very welcoming, with the personal touch. Home grown/made produce a feature. Ideal isolation from the 'bustle' but very close to the iconic Cygnet township. Perfect combination with a lunch at Fat Pig Farm, making for a memorable visit to the South-East.

  • Amazing - again. Such a charming space in a serene location. Robert and Fiona are fantastic and we are so lucky to have the opportunity to share their little slice of heaven

  • Very clean, comfy apartment with gorgeous garden and views. We arrived to warm freshly baked bread! And eggs and fruits for brekky, fresh from the garden. Fiona was more than happy to provide transport for lunch at fat pig farm which was very helpful. Highly recommend staying here!

  • We were absolutely blown away by how cosy yet stylish and modern Cherie's home was! We are just sad that we couldn't stay longer. Cherie was helpful from beginning to end, keeping communication lines open and clear at all times. Walking into the home after a very long drive was truly the best. Super cute personalised touches for guests. We really appreciated everything she did and provided for us and I was especially impressed with the bathroom amenities! We will be back!

I definitely wish we’d have stayed longer, but I will return. Thoughtful touches from Cherie, everything you could wish to hope for with local information, books, products etc The house itself is incredibly comfortable, stylish and a real reflection of the care that Cherie puts in to making your stay a great one. Thank you!

  • Cherie was the perfect host right from time of booking to after we had checked out! She went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The accommodation has been very thoughtfully set-up and my daughter loved the Google assistant. I loved the large backyard, particularly sitting out on the lounge in the morning with a book and enjoying the visits from a kookaburra and blue wrens.

  • Anna was very polite and let us make check in before time. Everything was super clean, we never heard any noise and the place is very cosy even during cold nights. The only little thing is that we didn’t have wifii, but actually we didn’t go to TAS for work and we always got to the place late at night and woke up early in the morning so we didn’t have much time for internet time. ✨✨ Highly recommended!!

    Delfina2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Good and comfortable place to stay. If 4 adults then be prepared for one adult to sleep on the floor as there is one couch which also does not open into a bed.

  • Not suitable for people relying on public transport as it’s a fair way from frequent public transport but if you have your own car I highly recommend staying here. Awesome views and a very quiet and spotlessly clean apartment with amazing views of the lake from the lounge/dining table

  • Jenny’s place is about 15 minuets drive from Hobart center, which is no problem at all, it’s spacious and really clean, you have everything you need. It’s close to the nice beach and there are restaurants within walking distance. I have to be honest, it’s much better than I expected! The dining table has nice view to the sea and it’s in a small street so it’s very quiet during the night, we couldn’t ask for better....

    Emily2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing and stylish home with a beautiful view.

    Abby2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Jenny's place is amazingly located, we found the view to be even better than in the pictures. It's very quiet and you can see A LOT of stars on a clear night (we're European city folks, so that's SUPER amazing to us), but also you're near shops and can quickly drive into Hobart. The apartment itself has everything necessary for a few days and is really thoughtfully decorated with a very modern bathroom, also, we found everything spotlessly clean and loved the quality of the cereals and jam provided. We'd sure be back and recommend their place to anyone looking in the area!

    Marcel2020-02-12T00:00:00Z

Beautiful, light, newly decorated cottage located on owner's land with chooks and two friendly dogs. Log fire, air con. Views of bush and sea and wildlife in abundance . Our place is a haven for birds and wallabies. Fifteen minute walk to Snug Beach. Local amenities ten minute walk. Snug Falls close by. Tranquility in abundance. Huon Valley and the beautiful town of Cygnet both within easy reach by car and the Bruny Island ferry port only ten minutes away.
Cottage is equipped with games, cards and books. We endeavour to make sure there are basic condiments along with tea and coffee of course. Fresh towels and linen provided.
We are lucky to have Snug Beach so close. A beautiful and generally, very quiet bay and only a fifteen-minute walk away. Alternatively, Coningham Beach is a five or six minute drive. Also within walking distance is a local IGA that sells everything, the Snug Tavern and bottle shop and a lovely Chinese restaurant that is open for lunch and dinner. They also sell delicious ice creams. Check out the Lavender flavour, made direct from the beautiful lavender farm at Margate. We have our very own Butcher who is famous in the region and 8 minutes in the car, the Margate train is a must, with the best antiques, pancakes, ice-creams and lolly shop. If chocolate is your thing, travel 7 minutes in the car (on the way to the Bruny Island ferry) and stop at the Woodbridge chocolate shop. Chocolates to die for. Further afield is Huonville and Cygnet, both very much worth a visit for museums and art and fresh produce. You’ll be spoilt for choice for vineyards on in the Huon Valley and don't forget to check out Willy Smith's apple shed that boasts every type of cider. For something naughty, try the famous woodfired bakehouse in Cygnet. Although there is plenty of walking, (maps and directions provided), a scenic drive will take you past some spectacular scenery and out of the way cafes. Head towards Egg and Bacon bay and have a cheeky gin tasting session at Grandvewe or stop for a coffee or dinner at Peppermint Bay.

  • Staying at John and Min's cabin was perfect for our family of 3. We really enjoyed the little cabin, especially being able to wander around the farm and explore (perfect for our 4 y/o) daughter. Nice touches in the cabin, especially a pre-made fire that just needed to be lit! Very close to Hobart but you feel right away from it all. Check out the little road-side blue esky at Kaoota for some treats!

  • Great location not too far out from Hobart, we found the cabin well equipped. The views are amazing and the farm animals are adorable.

  • Lovely stay with animals to visit. Kids loved the room outside and building a fire. Small, but well set up for a family of 5. Stunning view, but a very windy slow road to get there.

  • A cosy little cottage with lots of homely additions, in a great location for exploring the Huon valley. Perfect for couples or small families. Our kids loved seeing the farm animals & we all loved the beautiful view to the creek & hills! Hosts were friendly & quick to respond to any queries we had.

Find us on I.n.s.t.a.g.r.a.m Nestled on a hill just above the Snug Falls walking track, offering fantastic views onto Northwest Bay and the tree-covered hillsides. A free breakfast pack is included upon your arrival and a selection of teas and coffee. It is a secluded location, self-contained with 2 bedrooms, your own fully-equipped kitchen, living and bathroom. 30min drive to Hobart & 15min drive to the Bruny Island ferry terminal it is a great hub for exploring Tasmania's south-east coast.
This guesthouse is a true home with quality furniture from the family, most of those from the 60s/70s/80s. This house was built with passive solar heating in mind, double glazing throughout, with magnificent views to the East overlooking the D’Entre Casteaux Channel from the dining table. Quality appliances, designer kitchen and a well stocked pantry will make it a pleasure to prepare meals. The guesthouse has 2 generous bedrooms, a large galery like hallway and open plan kitchen, dining and living area on appr. 120m2 The property is totally secluded with magnificent water views, a lovely garden with a mix of native and European bird attracting plants. A small orchard and veggie garden with chook run provides for us and our guests.
The guesthouse is a 2 min. Drive away from the Snug Falls entrance and 8 min. to the Snug village which has a lovely little beach, a charming walking path along the river mouth. There is an excellent butcher, a small restaurant with takeaway and a supermarket. The Bruny Island Ferry is about 15 min. Drive and you will hop into the Huon Valley within 20 min. Hobart is a 30 min. away.
  • We spent 4 days at Christiane’s Snug retreat and we loved it. The house is located near Snug Falls and is secluded and peaceful with gorgeous views across the Channel. It is clean, spacious and very comfortable. Christiane has thought of everything around the kitchen so it is really easy to cook your own meals. Every tool or gadget, spice or condiment is on hand, and she has a “mini” shop with every essential ingredient you might forget to purchase, including delicious Tassie wines, available to purchase. Close to all major attractions and towns in this part of Tassie and highly recommended.

  • This place is spectacular. You have your own house. Everything you need is provided and kitchen is well equipped. Check out before you go grocery shopping.

  • The Snug Falls B&B is incredible value! We stayed last week to visit family in Hobart. The views are picturesque, it was a beautiful place to wake and enjoy the calm surroundings. Huge efforts have been made to ensure you feel at home here, from fresh food, a stocked pantry, to lux bathroom products, and slippers and throws to rug up, it was a truely relaxing and great value. No doubt we will be back again

  • Everything about this bnb is outstanding. The location, lodgings and the hosts. Location is just lovely, set in the hills surrounded by nature with views to just sit and savor. Lodgings have to be experienced to believe, everything you could possibly want is supplied. Hosts just lovely. Christiane is friendly, generous yet respecting of your privacy. This is a must stay. Thank you Christiane and family

  • What a gem of a place. Christiane was there to greet us when we arrived and helped us plan for our outings. The place is super clean and the surroundings are stunning with magnificent views of the bay. To be honest, I would plan my next trip based on the availability of this place.

    Nikhil2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Christiane's house is above and beyond our expectations. It locates in rural bushland overseeing sea in distance. The view is stunning. If you are looking for a quiet holiday away from busy city life and at the same time enjoying a high standard of living style and quality this is the right place. The house is stylish and all electrical appliances are modern and sophisticated. Consuming products are of high quality and environmental friendly. It is a home away from home indeed. We even canceled our outing plan just to spend a lazy day in the house. It worths every cent.

    Vera2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • *Simply the best!* Everything was absolutely perfect about this stay: location, property, host, views, food, amenities, landscape / flora / fauna — all was great! We drove up to the property in the pouring rain, late at night, due to flight delays. The last stretch of winding road was a bit unsettling in those conditions, but Christiane was in touch throughout and stayed up to meet us. We couldn’t see until the next morning that we had arrived in a little piece of paradise and so well worth the ride! Fresh food in the fridge and spectacular views from the terrace, complete with a rainbow, were the best welcome ever! A lovely spot from which to explore nearby, beautiful Bruny Island. A trip north to Devil’s Corner vineyard with stops at various beaches along the way is highly recommended. Hobart was easily accessible and we enjoyed lunch at Mures, a visit to the nearby Tasmanian museum & Art Gallery, and some fresh fish from “The Fishman” to take home for dinner. Speaking of dinner, this is the best stocked kitchen of any Airbnb property ever - and we travel a lot! I could go on and on, but Christiane can certainly make suggestions based on your preferences. We can’t thank her and Walter enough for all their attention to detail and for making our stay truly memorable. PS: if you enjoy oysters as much as we do, go directly to nearby Oyster Cove Market. Great price for some of the best oysters on the planet and free shucking! We truly enjoyed our daily oyster extravaganza.

We are a Christian family on a small farm in the heart of the Huon Valley. The area has easy access by car to shops, walks and restaurants and is only 30 minutes to Hobart. We have a guest room available for one or two guests. This room has a double bed a bedside cupboard, lamp and heater. Attached to the bedroom in a private tv lounge with desk space, a couch and a bookcase. You have a shared bathroom and laundry. Tea, coffee, milk and cereal are supplied in the guest room cupboard.
Wonder around the property. Access to the farm and animals in the grassed areas. Collect fresh eggs from the hen house or have a quiet picnic by the creek. Fresh water trout and a shy platypus live here.
A short walk to The Pelverata Falls Track and only 20 minutes to Willie Smiths Apple Shed and easy access to all the Huon Valley has to offer. A partially winding 30 minutes through to Hobart with all of its attractions.
  • John and Min (Melinda) are very hospitable and great hosts. They made our stay very comfortable, and the communication has been very good. Their property is beautiful. John makes and sells very delicious boerewors (a South African specialty).

  • John and Min recently started renting a room inside their own house, besides the cottage you can rent. It is really lovely with a small livingroom attached to the bedroom. Everything was really clean and the breakfast in the morning is a nice extra service. It is a quiet area with a lot of nature around the house. John and Min are really welcoming and made time for a chat even though they were prepping for a Christmas market the next day. We really recommend staying here.

  • We had a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing time in this gorgeous beach cottage! It just has such authentic character. Irregardless of the weather being bright & sunny... or the howling gale we experienced for 24hrs, it was so snug and comfortable. We loved the thoughtful personal touches - the full woodshed, and the availability of cooking necessities. The outlook, that changed so many times during the day, was stunning. The ever-changing view was mesmerising.

    Madeleine2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous week at Red Gate Cottage. Such a peaceful hideaway, with the beach literally on your doorstep. An authentic beach shack, but with all the comforts of home and super cosy. The bed, with its luxurious doona & quality linen made for some beautiful, restorative nights’ sleeps. And then to wake up in the morning, pull back the curtains & enjoy the views from the comfort of bed! Heavenly!! We especially loved our daily visits from 2 cute little eastern quolls - extinct on mainland Australia, but these two were very cheeky & we felt really lucky to experience wildlife at our doorstep! Can’t recommend Redgate Cottage enough!

    Pam2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay at Red Gate Cottage so that tells you something. If you love being able to walk right into the sand from the house as well as enjoy the best view from a bedroom you’ll ever have, this comfy little cottage is for you. We love its location and its cosiness and the fact that the basics are provided. This visit won’t be our last.

The bathroom has a flushing toilet, running hot water, full sized shower, quality towels, shampoos and soaps. The Kitchen has all you need to be self sufficient for your stay, a full sized fridge, gas cook top and small on bench oven. Breakfast can be provided at additional cost of $20 and consists of cereal, milk, coffee, tea, eggs, bread, fruit and other fresh in season produce, enough for 2 people. Please advise if you have any dietary requirements. A double bed with fresh quality linen, lounge, small dining table, tv's and small stereo that is compatible with most smart phones will have you feeling at home at Hut#4.
Great Bay is a quiet settlement on the water. There is a mixture of full time residents, shack owners and in peak times a few tourists. It is mostly low density sheep farming on the land but Great Bay has many oyster farms located within it's waters. The beach at Great Bay is on the channel side of Bruny Island making the waters calm and still most of the time. There is long shallow sand flats running out for 100m or so creating a wonderful swimming spot in summer. Next door to our property is the Bruny Island Cheese and Beer Co which is a great spot to grab a nice coffee or something to eat. A short walk north takes you to Get Shucked where you can watch the oysters being farmed, harvested and split fresh for one of the most authentic paddock (or ocean) to plate experiences you will find. There is also a great deal to explore on Bruny Island, all of which is not too far away.
  • We loved our stay in hut#4. A fabulous hut and base to explore bruny island from. A great location on a farm but right beside some of Brunys best attreactions. So quiet and a chance to enjoy the natural setting. Very cosy and comfortable in the cool weather.
