  • Charlotte’s place was fantastic and perfect. Really nice touches, lovely country location. Charlotte’s communication was excellent and very prompt. Susan greeted me with a smile, showed me everything I needed to know and was great. I had such a good night’s sleep, the bed was so comfortable and the room (newly renovated) was really cosy with everything I needed. I just wish I had reason to stay here for more nights. I would highly recommend this place. Peter

  • Beautiful location and outstanding hosts. Really enjoyed my stay.

    Molly2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Charlotte’s place and were made to feel very welcome throughout! The location is lovely being nestled in the woods and surrounded by walking trails. We didn’t have a car however this wasn’t a problem as a bus goes through Nettlebed. The property itself is very cosy and it was great being able to use the kitchen. A particular highlight was using the hot tub in the evening! Overall we would definitely recommend staying here!

  • We had a lovely stay here. It's a little tricky to get to but worth it! Clean, comfy and very peaceful and we were made to feel very welcome. Would not hesitate to recommend this place for a relaxing evening

  • Charlotte was great on the communication/directions portion before our arrival. Then Susan took over as the perfect hostess during our stay. She gave personal tips about local sights and insights into local British community, which was one of our main goals in staying in an AirBNB in a village. Accommodatios were tops!

  • Gorgeous little quiet place out in the country. Fully equipped kitchen with table downstairs with nice bedroom/lounge upstairs with mini ensuite. Bed is really comfortable and blackout blind on velux above bed :) 2 little chairs in front of very small tv with freeview - was adequate but we would have liked a sofa or bigger tv to watch from bed & netflix! Next time we will bring laptop. We would love to stay again. very peaceful and private which is what we were after. Yummy home made bread and jam and own chickens eggs! thank you.

  • A glowing recommendation from me. I loved staying in this property as it was incredibly cosy and secluded. There were great walking trails nearby and the fresh eggs and bread were such a nice touch. Highly recommended.

  • A wonderfully secluded getaway. The property and surrounding area is incredibly peaceful, and there is the most amazing pub just down the road (9 min walk). Katharine and Dickie were lovely; quick responses, and very hospitable.

  • We stayed at the cottage as we went to a wedding in the local area. The location of the cottage is beautiful and quiet. We needed a slightly earlier check in which was accommodated for. It felt a little cold when we first walked in but realised the heating was on a timer so once we worked that out and put it on to suit us, it soon warmed up. The homemade bread and selection of breakfast options was a lovely touch. Communication was great and we would highly recommend.

The room is in a house, high in the Chilterns, an area of outstanding natural beauty near Henley On Thames, 40 minutes to Heathrow and London and Oxford. A short walk has excellent views of the City of Oxford and the Oxford plains. The house is large with heating, a wood stove, tv and wireless broadband. Off road parking and a quiet location close to a large nature reserve. The full address is in the check in instructions. I do have another room with a single bed available by arrangement.
The room is an exceptionally quiet area at night and many have commented on how well they sleep. It is also easy access to the M40 which means that London and Oxford are in easy travelling distance. A car is normally required unless you do not mind the 30 minute walk to the bus stop which travels between Henley on Thames and Wallingford. Henley has a train station and Wallingford has a regular bus run between Oxford and Reading
This is a rural area with plenty of walking to woodland and a large local nature reserve. Cycling is popular in this area as is horse riding.
  • Comfortable and quiet.

A charming 1920's house conveniently located in the centre of the village of Nettlebed, away from the main road and incredibly peaceful. In the village there is a cafe, shop, and pub all within walking distance. You can take amazing walks right from the house, two brilliant pubs each about 45 mins walk. Henley, Wallingford & Watlington are all within easy reach. We offer two rooms - a Double and a Twin (see separate listing). We do have a harmless Labrador but can keep him away if preferred!
This is a family home, with lots of character. The house is surrounded by common land with beech woods at the back of the garden, and lots of bird life.
We are in a lovely village, well placed for access to Henley on Thames (5 miles), Reading, Oxford. The village has a pub with restaurant (3 min walk) or there are other pubs within 45 minute walk which is a great way to experience our beautiful countryside.
  • Lotte was the perfect host. The communication up to our stay was exceptional. The check in was smooth, met by beautiful Lab called Indigo - he is just gorgeous and so friendly. Lotte’s house if near a lovely village pub. The house is wonderful, quirky, spacious and clean with the most comfortable bed. I felt so comfortable here and that it was my house (I could only wish) Lotte is very friendly, lovely and extremely easy to talk to. A very pleasant stay and experience

  • A gorgeous place in a beautiful piece of English countryside with top-notch hospitality. Our room was charming, comfortable, and clean with thoughtful touches on arrival. Fresh flowers and a pitcher of water brightened a long travel day. Communication and expert advice about exploring the area helped us experience the area on foot, bike, bus and car. Returning in the evening felt like coming home. Would very highly recommend this stay for a warm and relaxed visit!

  • We're so grateful to Lotte for her gracious hospitality on our first night in the UK. She has a place full of character and charm, with historic family photos and some of her own watercolors. We slept very well and enjoyed a delicious breakfast, including fresh fruits. She was flexible with our arrangements and helpful in our trip planning. We accompanied Lotte and the dog on a morning walk in the beautiful public woods behind the house and appreciated the interesting conversations we had then and throughout our brief stay. A great place and a great host!

It is quiet peaceful, and beautiful. Plenty of walks amidst the Chilterns.
  • In the heart of the chilterns, beautiful cycling from the doorstep, pub just across the road with good food. Serena and James both wonderful and welcoming hosts, that went above and beyond to make our stay special. Thank you, will return in the future!

  • Serena went out of her way to help my stay be more comfortable and relaxed - she provided home cooked food for me (I'm vegetarian) and anything else I needed. I stayed for 4 nights as I was working at Stonor Park - James and Serena were really friendly, easy-going, kind and helpful and I felt welcome and relaxed in their home. The bed is really comfy and clean too and I slept like a log. Would definitely stay again.

  • Serena and James were very welcoming, and I would happily stay with them again.

    Jane2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Although we were only staying briefly Serena's hospitality was second to none. She saved the day after I accidentally cut my partner's dress strap and cured our wedding party hangovers with great breakfast and conversation. Lovely host, great home.

Located in the heart of the stunning Chilterns - with easy access to the M40. Offering peace and privacy the property is close to lots of footpaths through this area of outstanding natural beauty and many country pubs. Less than ten minutes drive from Henley on Thames and all its wonderful summer events. Oxford is only 40 minutes drive, and the beautiful town of Marlow is under 20. The space is perfect for solo travellers, couples or slightly larger groups with a bedroom at the top of the spiral staircase, and a double sofa bed below. There is a bathroom with a shower. In addition to a small fridge, toaster, microwave, two hot plates and supplies of tea and coffee. The building has its own wifi rooter and landline, although the signal for mobile phones in the valley is pretty much nonexistent. As a self-contained building, the barn has its own patio. Access to the shared garden and trampoline. Use of the heated outdoor pool by arrangement with the host. There is a private entrance to the property and off-road parking.

  • Great spot! Quiet and tucked away but a really amazing space with great walks and pubs all around. The place was bright and clean and very private and quiet. Elizabeth provided some cereal and bread and even some mince pies. The kitchen was very functional and the space generally a great place to spend an evening after a long walk.

    Matt2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • The Barn is a beautiful place to stay in lovely countryside, ideal for a couple although it was fine for 4 of us using the bed sofa. Elizabeth was a welcoming host who added many thoughtful touches like milk and fresh orange juice. The garden was great for the dogs and there were lovely walks through woods and Stonor Park plus the Crown at Pilshill or just curl up with one of the many fascinating books on the shelves. The WiFi was good but no mobile signal. Delightful!

    Gillian2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Barn is perfect for a relaxing and cosy weekend away. Despite it being a rather grey weekend, the space was warm and homely. There is no phone signal, so if you choose not to connect to the internet, it's ideal for a digital detox - the internet is there and works well if you want it though! Would highly recommend.

There are two bathrooms: One upstairs adjacent to the master bedroom with a bath and toilet and one downstairs with a shower and toilet. There is a dining room, a kitchen with Aga and a utility room with a washer, drier and freezer. There is a well stocked games cupboard and finally, upstairs, leading off the master bedroom is a study with a desk, an iMac and a small library.
The cottage is serene and quiet, and is located close to the village of Stoke Row which has a village green, a quaint chapel and the Stoke Row Stores, where you can get a full cooked breakfast as well as basic supplies. The woods are home to roe deer, fallow deer, muntjacs, hares, owls and red kites. There are outstanding walking, bridle, and cycle paths right out the front door. Should you fancy a hack, riding stables are nearby which we can recommend. There are five lovely country pubs within walking distance: The Cherry Tree Inn and the critically acclaimed Crooked Billet in Stoke Row (Paul Clerehugh), The Unicorn and The Greyhound (Anthony Worral-Thompson) in Peppard and The Rising Sun at the top of Witheridge Hill. A little further afield is The Black Horse in Checkendon for fine beer and ales and The Highwayman in Exlade Street has wonderful food.

  • Really fantastic space for a short getaway with friends. Lovely log fire, lots of kitchen equipment, warm and cosy. A lovely welcome and delicious brownies. We saw lots of birds in the garden including a Jay and deer nearby. Great walks nearby and Henley on Thames worth a visit. Just wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you!

I would fully recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay for a weekend or longer period! Everything we needed was there and the beds provided a very comfortable sleep for our two night stay! Thank you so much!

  • Leanne and Michael were perfect hosts for a beautiful home that had every conceivable amenity. It was very comfortable, clean, quiet and serene and yet close to vibrant towns like Henley. Pubs were within walking distance and the garden and sounds of birds and other wildlife were plentiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend "The Old Place" as an ideal getaway.

A 4 bedroom family home in the Chilterns village of Nettlebed. Adjacent to the cricket field and extensive woods with lots of walks. The village has a Spar, Petrol Station, Field Kitchen café, White Hart pub. Plenty of lovely walks to nearby pubs including 5 Horseshoes in Maidensgrove, Crooked Billet and Cherry Tree Inn in Stoke Row and The Rising Sun in Witheridge Hill. The house is suitable for families with a children's playroom and further sitting room with log burner.
Nettlebed village is 5 miles from Henley-on-Thames and 35 miles from London as the crow flies. A community of some 700 inhabitants set in the beautiful wooded countryside of the Chiltern Hills AONB and surrounded by large areas of common land. The church, St. Bartholomew’s, was rebuilt in mid 19th century and parts of the tower date back to Norman times. Many of the dwellings are listed buildings and in a conservation area. Nettlebed was the most important brick and tile making centre in the Chilterns from the mid-14th century onwards. One redundant lime burning kiln remains and is a focal point of Nettlebed. Two pudding stones near the bus shelter are thought to be millions of years old and were until recently outside the former Bull Hotel in the High Street and were used for mounting horses. There were several pubs in Nettlebed at one time but today there is only the White Hart, an old coaching inn now a hotel restaurant. Nettlebed Village Club (formerly the Working men’s Club) is a popular watering hole for the local community. There is a thriving post office/ shop, Nettlebed “Life” interior furnishings and The Field Kitchen café and delicatessen. Brights of Nettlebed have their headquarters here. The Sue Ryder Foundation have a palliative care home at Joyce Grove, the former home of the Fleming family. A service station with Spar shop lies at the end of the village and a vehicle repair workshop is nearby. Opened 3 years ago, the Nettlebed Creamery manufactures high quality cheese from local organic milk. The wonderful beech woods and hills around make the area popular start for walking and rambling. Red Kites re-introduced to England in recent years can be seen regularly over Nettlebed. The countryside surrounding Nettlebed can offer some of the darkest skies in this part of England. Binoculars and telescopes will amply reward the visiting astronomer. For more information on Nettlebed’s history go to https://www.nettlebed.org/history

Beautiful house set in the quiet village of Stoke Row, within walking distance of the famous Crooked Billet. The house has lots of space for parking, a gorgeous garden to relax in and a clean and spacious bedroom for a relaxing nights' sleep. The house is also perfectly placed if you are visiting Henley Royal Regatta, and is approximately 6 miles from Henley, 10 from Reading and 20 from Windsor. There are more rooms available if you have a large group - get in touch and ask for more details.
This beautiful house is set back off the road, so is peaceful all of the time - the only thing that may wake you are the birds or church bells. It is within walking distance of three great pubs and hundreds of footpaths leading away from the village, allowing you to explore The Chilterns by foot. There is a friendly cafe and shop in the village for perfect afternoon tea, and if you want more hussle and bussle you can head into the market towns of Henley or Wallingford, just 6 miles away.
Stoke Row is a sleepy Chiltern village, but with a great community spirit - there are cycling groups, walking groups, a busy village hall and sports pavilion, plus great pubs and a cafe.

With far reaching view down the Stonor Valley, this delightful annexe is situated above the double garage, opposite to the main house. The annexe has a comfortable king size bed, dressing table / desk, separate wardrobe area and ensuite shower room with washbasin and toilet. The annexe is extremely quiet, the loudest noise being birdsong in the mornings. It is clean, light and very calm space. The Rainbow Inn can be found at the bottom of the road and The Golden Ball in Lower Assendon.
Middle Assendon is a pretty Chiltern village just two miles from Henley on Thames in the stunning Stonor Valley. To walk to Henley takes around 45 minutes or a taxi ride just five minutes, and a £6 fare. Middle Assendon is a great starting place for walkers to explore the countryside and the many local pubs along the way. Being in proximity of Henley also makes it a good location to find accommodation during the busy Henley Regatta and festival.
  • Fabulous place, really clean, nice and quiet. Natalie lovely host would definitely stay here again.

    Cath2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely bright room with en-suite shower room, very clean and beautifully decorated. Natalie is a fabulous host and the views over the rolling hills from her gardens are fantastic. Come glamping in a beautiful Shepherds Hut and a cute Artic BBQ hut in an exclusive private field surrounded by private woodland for your exclusive use. Nestled in a beautiful corner of a 3 acre field you have your own fenced off area just for your own use with parking. A gate behind the huts gives you direct access to the woodland which leads to walks and pubs/village shop etc.
Our location is rural, private, secluded and exclusive, with great walks through beautiful woodland to local pubs and a village shop. It is meant to be secluded and rural and therefore has no internet, limited mobile signal and no TV but beautiful views and a good glass of wine! Its wonderful situation catches the afternoon sun where you can sit out and watch the Red Kites circle above or listen to Woodpeckers and other wildlife. There is a set of steps going up into the Shepherds hut and also into the toilet. The place would be ideal for an outdoorsy couple who enjoy relaxing or walking in nature and are not afraid of the dark and wild natural spaces.
It is very quiet, there are some animal noises at night and occasionally the dogs bark but you may not be able to hear them. The surrounding woods are absolutely beautiful.

    Karen2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage is warm, stylish and comfortable. The surrounding scenery and walking routes are beautiful and plentiful. We didn’t use the swimming pool but the space itself with a pool and football table was a great addition. Highly recommended.

  • We had a great stay at Ally's cottage, it has everything you possibly need for a quiet weekend away. Reka was a pleasure to deal with, as was Pippa the dog who loved us being around. Country walks and a pub close by to watch the rugby was ideal, would definitely come back again!!

A beautiful barn conversion in picturesque Stonor Valley, 10 mins from Henley-on-Thames. The barn is surrounded by a 5 acre garden shared with our farmhouse and enjoys spectacular views. Use of tennis court & indoor pool.
As you enter the barn through tall glass doors, you come into an open-plan sitting room, with double height ceiling and a comfortable seating area. To the right and still part of this open plan room, is a dining table that seats up to 12 and a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, freezer, oven, hob and a dishwasher. Also on the ground floor are two double bedrooms and a bathroom. Upstairs, the barn is made up of two large mezzanine rooms accessed by two staircases flanking the fire place. To the right above the kitchen and dining area is a large family bedroom (described under Accommodation) and to the left on the mezzanine is a Games Room, with a full sized billiard table. The fire place is a focal point of the open plan living room and is in good working order, logs will be provided although the barn is centrally heated. There is no washing machine or tumble dryer but a laundry service can be provided at an additional cost by the owner. Accommodation: This property is advertised for 12, it is ideal for that number if shared between two families with children but for an adult group wanting their own space and privacy we would recommend it for a group of 6, two in each of the three rooms. It can be scaled up further in terms of beds to a maximum of 14 on sofa beds (x2 singles) and truckles (single bed in Master with one truckle below) and doubles (x 5 across x 3 rooms) but this is not recommended for a comfortable stay. Please note there is only one bathroom! The bathroom is spacious, with loo, sink, bath and separate wet-room shower. The accommodation comprises: x 1 double bedroom that sleeps 3 (1 double bed and a single bed, there is a truckle under this single bed so could work for two children) x 1 double bedroom that sleeps 2 (1 double bed) x 1 family bedroom / children's room - this is located on the mezzanine level and sleeps 7 (x 3 double beds and one single sofa bed). Please note that this is on a mezzanine and open to the living area below, it is perhaps a consideration for those with young children who are light sleepers and likely to be disturbed by light or noise from the main sitting room below. A travel cot is also available for small infants. In the Games Room there is a further single sofa bed if required. Tennis Court: This is right next door to the guest house and can be used by guests as they please. Swimming Pool: The indoor pool is attached to the farmhouse and must be accessed via the house, therefore it will be offered to guests between the hours of 8am and 7pm. Pool towels are provided.
The Stonor Valley is situated in the Chilterns just 10 minutes drive from Henley-on-Thames and is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The village of Pishill, is charming, it has a local pub, The Crown Inn and a 12th century church. This is a dream location for walkers and cyclists. We provide a map to help you plan walking and cycling routes. For those seeking a little culture, we are also just a mile away from neighbouring village, Stonor where the impressive country house, Stonor Park is situated amidst a stunning deer park. The house and garden are open to the public at restricted times, so check their website before planning your visit. Whilst this is a rural area, there is no shortage of good places to eat from Michelin starred restaurants to honest local pubs, many within walking distance and all listed in the information booklet, a pdf of which can be sent to you prior to your stay. If you are celebrating a special occasion, we have two 2-star Michelin restaurants in easy reach although early booking is essential. - Raymond Blanch's 'Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons' in Great Milton is 20 minutes away - Tom Kerridge's 'Hand and Flowers' in Marlow is 15 minutes away and his more casual dining tapas bar 'The Coach' is also in Marlow is great (they do not accept reservations and are very busy on Saturdays). Otherwise, for more down to earth dining, there are so many wonderful pubs to choose from serving restaurant standard food to honest pub grub. Henley-on-Thames and Marlow are both beautiful historic towns, boasting lovely walks along the banks of the Thames, good retail therapy with many boutique shops and a good selection of restaurants. Henley has a charming cinema, Regency theatre and the Water and Rowing Museum that alongside a history of rowing, tells the tale of Kenneth Grahame's 'Wind in the Willows' inspired by this stretch of the river. Boat trips, boat and canoe hire are possible from both Marlow and Henley. There are lots of events going on in the area and Pishill is the ideal place to stay of you are visiting: Henley Royal Regatta, Henley Festival, Henley Literary Festival, Garsington Opera (now located on Getty Estate just a few miles away), Ascot Races (40 minutes).
  • This place is amazing! 12 of us went for a long weekend away. The house is gorgeous and the swimming pool was great fun. We got taxis into Henley to do a tour of the excellent pubs. Would recommend highly.

The view from the house was stunning, not to mention the property itself. We cannot fault this house. Definitely recommend to friend groups, families, literally anyone. There is something in the local area for everyone. We also rate Hobbs of Henley for boat hire!

  • We had a lovely stay in this beautiful but comfortable house. The decor was first class and the artwork around the house was amazing. And there was a real log fire in the living room. The beds were comfortable with thick cosy quilts and each bedroom , except the room with bunks, had an en-suite. Although it was easy for anyone in that bedroom to share the bathroom next door. The location was ideal , just 10 minute drive from Henley-On-Thames but the house was in the county , which was a bonus for us as busy town dwellers. Also, approximately four minutes walk from the house was the cosy Rising Sun Pub which served good pub food . We just wished that we could have stayed for longer!

  • The Cottage proved to be a wonderful and memorable place to celebrate my 60th birthday with family. It is in a lovely quiet location, beautifully presented and equipped and made an excellent base from which to explore Oxford, Henley-on-Tames and the surrounding areas. I can only echo other reviewers in commending the home comforts and rustic yet very stylish ambience provided by host Sarah. We would love to return, perhaps at a warmer time of year when we can make full use of the most pleasant garden. Like others, we found the nearby Rising Sun pub most welcoming, despite our visit coinciding with a change of management. We can also recommend spending a few hours at Greys Court, a gem of a National Trust property just a stone's throw away.

  • A beautiful house in a lovely location. We felt immediately at home and enjoyed our stay very much. There were an abundance of special touches such as large / soft towels, plenty of supplies (everything from dishwasher tablets to logs/kindling for the wonderful fireplace!!) not to mention the gorgeous Christmas tree which was a lovely touch!! Just one thing noting - 10 am check out means 10am on the dot, I fully appreciate that this is because the host is ensuring the house is perfectly cleaned before the next guests arrive but other AirBNB’s may have more flexible check out so just bear that in mind. Overall an excellent stay that suited our needs perfectly.

  • We had a fantastic weekend and would definitely return. The house has a great feel and is well appointed. It’s easy to get to and Sarah is a lovely responsive host. We especially loved the corner seating for the dining table and there was plenty of wood for a cosy fire.

  • We stayed at Sarah’s for a getaway weekend with a big group and was just what we were after. The house is beautiful with lovely sized rooms so you didn’t feel on top of each other. The spaces for eating are great for lots of people. The surroundings are stunning, lovely walks and local pubs. Highly recommended !!!

  • The Old School House is gorgeous! It exceeded expectations - it looks great in the photos, but is honestly even better in reality. Beautifully furnished, very well equipped and very luxurious! There are so many things that make it special, from unique artwork to fabulously comfortable beds, the finest quality linens, and interesting memorabilia throughout. Completely private and quiet - with a lovely secluded garden. Booking and contact with Sarah the host was very efficient. We had a memorable and very special family weekend and would not hesitate to recommend. Well deserved 5 star rating! Thank you so much to Sarah.

    Jane2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah is a terrific host. We found the booking very well organized, the host was quick to answer our questions, flexible, and friendly in all our communications. We stayed as an extended family for a grandfather's birthday party and had a wonderful time, young and old. The house is gorgeous, well-proportioned, beautifully presented and very comfortable. The facilities are terrific - from professional crisp linens to John Lewis kitchenware and all top-notch kitchen mod-cons hidden behind lovely rustic cupboard fronts. Beds, sofas and lights are all designed for stylish comfort and there was plenty of hot water for a full house! The location is quiet and remote with a lovely garden and wonderful stars at night - yet only 10minutes drive away are some fantastic dining options, Waitrose, and the beautiful Henley river.

Welcome to Corner House, we are new to AirBnB this season and already have a Five Star Review and 4 Five Star Reviews on Homeaway.co.uk. The House: Corner House is a spacious and comfortable house, newly redecorated and carpeted, it's bright and spacious. The original artwork in each room adds colour and vibrancy to the space. The kitchen is fully equipped, has an American fridge with water and ice maker. The dining table comfortably seats 8 and has a lovely view of the garden. The lounge has a large wood-burning stove with comfortable sofas for those cosy nights in. There is super fast Sky Wi-Fi, digital TV with Amazon Prime, Netflix and Sky TV. Corner House is located in the heart of Nettlebed on a quiet road. The area of the Chiltern Hills is fortunate to have a plethora of activities, historic places and entertainment near by. Here are a few of them: Nettlebed: standing in the village, Joyce Grove was the former home of the Fleming Family. Redeveloped in the early 1900’s, this wealthy family owns much of the village and surrounding countryside; today it still runs the farm and businesses whilst remaining a benefactor to the area. It was the home of the city banker Robert Flaming from Dundee. He made his money in part from Jute fabric used for sandbags in the American Civil War and the American Railroads. One his sons, Valentine Flaming was the Father of famous writer Peter Fleming, married to actress Celia Johnson and his brother Ian Fleming, the James Bond writer. The family spent much of their childhood here. It's possible to look around the estate and see the magnificence of the late Victorian gothic architecture. Nuffield Place: Just two miles away is the National Trust property of Nuffield Place. It was the former home to Lord Nuffield, the philanthropist otherwise known as Sir William Morris. He was the British equivalent to Henry Ford. From his plant in Oxford he produced millions of Morris cars and contributed to the popularity and growth in affordable car ownership in the UK. A quirky, eccentric man who lived with his wife in this relatively modest Arts and Crafts house, shows English eccentricity at its best. Henley on Thames: Just 5 mile away, the beautiful Thames riverside town is known the world over for its famous Henley Royal Regatta; that comes in July every year. It has so much more to offer though, boasting a packed line up through the season with Festivals, events and much more to entertain and participate in. Full of history, great restaurants, boat activities on the river, theatre and shopping, it’s an wonderful place to spend some time. Wallingford: being just 6 miles away, it's a charming Oxfordshire town on the banks of the River Thames. This historic market town has a lovely feel, lots of history, river activities, entertaining and dining. Spend some time discovering its country walks, interesting town centre and atmosphere. The Chiltern Hills: Based at the south western end of the Chiltern Hills, there is so much to do in this ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ in terms of country walks, historic villages and lovely country pubs right on your doorstep. Nettlebed is a perfect location to explore on foot or by car and marvel at the beauty of nature, peace and culture of the area. Oxford: Just 20 miles away and 40 minutes by car, there is everything in Oxford for the explorer. Saturated in history and the home of the academic elite, Oxford is a heady bland of energy, culture and history. Reading: A big commuter town with the best shops and retail in the area, Reading has a fast train into London that takes under 30 minutes. If you don’t want to take the train, there is a cheap and efficient bus service called the Oxford Tube that runs every 30 minutes, day and night into London; just a 10 mile drive from the house with free parking. Things to do: There is so much to do in the area, for the energetic or sedate. The rivers in Henley on Thames, Wallingford, Oxford and Reading are great places to walk, cycle, canoe or take a boat trip. Everywhere in the area is great for countryside walks and there’s a host of places to discover and enjoy. A perfect location to get a true taste of England. Places to eat: There are too many to mention here. The quality and standard of food is very high in the area from fine dining to quick snacks, morning coffee and afternoon tea. The choice is great and varied. To mention just a few: The Field Kitchen is great for breakfast, lunch and coffee here in Nettlebed. The White Hart in the village is great for a steak supper and is an old coaching inn. Nearby in Stoke Row is the Crooked Billet and does great food in a beautiful setting. The King William is a proper pub, go when you can sit outside and enjoy the spectacular views. Avanti is in Wallingford town centre and is a friendly Italian, with good hearty food and a very warm welcome. Finally, The Catherine Wheel in Henley is ‘cheap and cheerful’ and lacks all pretence. Great for breakfast, it feels like old pubs used to be in England and is great for something basic. As your host, I have lived in the area for over 20 years and have a pretty good local knowledge. It’ll be a pleasure to share that with you as you plan your stay. Look forward to meeting you. Al

  • We spent a fantastic 2 weeks in Alan’s lovely home in Nettlebed, a very nice village with plenty of beautiful walks and perfectly located between Henley, Watlington, and Wallingford. The house is extremely quiet, spacious and comfortable. It has recently been renovated. Alan was a superb host throughout and we would not hesitate to recommend his place, which could equally host one/several couples, or a family. Many thanks again Alan for your warm welcome and the great conversations! Hope to come and stay again soon.

This recently refurbished bedroom in a family home is at the front of a grade two listed house in the heart of Nettlebed. As well as a king size bed with cotton bedding, it has an en suite wet room with a heated floor and towel rail. Nettlebed is a five minute drive from Henley-on-Thames . It is a pretty village with a pub, cafe, shop, church and a bus service into Henley and towards Oxford. We are happy to supply, as well as a light breakfast of toast, cereal, tea and coffee when required.
It is a room in a large country house which is full of character furnished in a French country style with a beautiful antique armoire. It has a beautiful en suite wet room.
The Old Priest House is situated in Nettlebed in the Chilterns which is 5 minutes from Henley on Thames and half an hour from Oxford. Trains come into Henley frequently from London and Reading. There is a regular bus from a Nettlebed to Henley. Nettlebed is an old village with history which can be seen mainly in the old buildings. Our house is one of them. In the 18th century it was a centre for local brick making and an old brick kiln still exists. Joyce Grove, a former stately home, was the home of the Fleming family of James Bond fame. Today, it is a hospice but s also used as a TV and film location, notably Midsomer Murders and The Imitation Game. Nettlebed also has a pub/hotel, a cafe, furniture shops, a church (with John Piper stained glass windows) and a garage incorporating a shop and post office.

We have a local garage with a grocery store and a pub/hotel , The White Hart, plus a fabulous cafe. We have plenty of parking. The country walks are endless and pubs can be reached easily on the way.
  • Lovely private room with en suite bathroom. There was a warm welcome from Mary Jane and although the property is in a rural location, was easily found with directions from Mary Jane. Very comfortable bed with lovely linen and towels. There is a TV in the room and access to WiFi. There were tea and coffee making facilities with some biscuits and chocolate in the room as well. A cooked breakfast in the morning was an extra bonus. I felt like a welcome friend rather than a paying guest and hope to return in the future. Very suitable for 1 or 2 guests. Thank you very much Mary Jane.

Don't hesitate to book!

  • Sandra's annex was a delightful discovery, it was such a comfortable, cosy, clean, spacious, quiet, welcoming and relaxing place to stay! Recently converted and beautifully finished, situated in the countryside it was a fantastic place to rest and recharge. There are board games and an internet connected tv for rainy days and idyllic country walks for better weather. (If you're needing to work or make phone calls I'd suggest bringing your own hotspot as signal is weak, but we found this a welcomed relief from the bombardment of everyday life). Very comfortable bed, and beautiful surroundings with peaceful scenery to wake up to. We would happily love to come and stay again.

We offer two rooms - a Double and (see separate listing) a Twin. We do have a harmless Labrador but can keep him away if preferred!
A light and airy 1920's house in a very tranquil setting. The village of Nettlebed is ideally located for exploring the local area with easy access to Reading and Oxford. We are very near to the Ridgeway and other great walks.
Beautiful countryside with lots of walks available, also great for on or off road cycling as long as you like hills.
  • Lotte is a perfect host. She made us feel completely relaxed and at home in her lovely house. The breakfasts were amazing and the location excellent. She has a great knowledge of the local area and was happy to recommend places of interest to us. Spotlessly clean and a paradise for book lovers. Would love to return one day and can recommend to other travellers.

Lotte also, very kindly, offered us a lift back to the Ridgeway. Top service.

We recommend researching the bus times though, as they don't run very frequently. Enjoy the lovely, comfortable room and breakfast spread!

Spacious, arts and crafts style house with large garden in area of outstanding natural beauty. Large kitchen with Aga, 4 bedrooms. Henley 8 miles, Oxford 20, London 44. Suit family groups. Tranquil location in Chiltern Hills with good walks and pubs.
The spacious kitchen has table and chairs for breakfast/informal meals. In addition to the Aga, there is a hob and a conventional oven. The covered back door leads into a utility room ideal for shedding muddy boots and hanging up coats. A formal dining room seats 8/10 comfortably. Lovely comfy sitting room with large TV opens into small sun room with French doors into garden. Front door opens onto spacious hallway with inner hallway beyond and downstairs cloakroom. A second sitting room/office has armchair, sofa and desk. Upstairs there are four large double bedrooms, two with en suite bathrooms. A family bathroom serves the third double-bedded room and the twin-bedded room.
Get away from it all in some of the most beautiful countryside in Southern England, yet within such easy reach of London that you can pop in to view an exhibition, go to the theatre, opera or ballet and be tucked up in bed again by midnight. A short walk from the house and across the lovely cricket ground you come to beech woods and a myriad of public footpaths stretching into glorious countryside in every direction. There are several wonderful local pubs within a few minutes walk and a friendly village shop which offers coffee, home cooked breakfast and lunch, basic groceries and speciality items. Supermarket, butcher, chemist, medical centre and other amenities all available within 3 miles; not far beyond are Henley and Reading which offer a choice of supermarkets, shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and a programme of events, including the Henley Regatta and Festival. National Trust property Greys Court is close, as is Dorchester Abbey, as well as at least six lovely pay and play golf courses. If you are interested in touring, Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, the Cotswolds and Bampton (where Downton Abbey was filmed) are all within an hour to an hour and a half's drive away. For those keen on shopping, Bicester Village Designer Outlet Centre is less than an hour away.
  • Debbie presents a fabulous family home that hits all the expectations of a country retreat in a beautiful part of Britain. The location and home is very well suited for families looking to experience that quiet English countryside. The garden is great with opportunity to feed birds and enjoy the private garden space. The local pubs are excellent, while driving to nearby towns of Henley or the larger Reading is easy done. Our family enjoyed christmas there with family and friends, the large country kitchen with Aga oven is an experience in itself and was well equipped for entertaining. Spacious bedrooms with well appointed bathrooms made for a very comfortable stay. Beds were set with high quality linen and nice touches of comfort. Good spaces for hanging clothes and draws to put things away. We certainly enjoyed the log fire and there was plenty of wood cut for ease of use. The formal lounge was comfortable and large enough for our extended family. We found some classic games which the whole family enjoyed playing. Overall a great stay, thank you Debbie.

  • Lovely house and gardens. Owners provided helpful maps with information about local walks and pubs that made the trip even more enjoyable. Great location for exploring Southwest England.

  • Debbie's house is a delight, surrounded by a large, very private garden, but within walking distance of several pubs, (no noise problems whatsoever though), and also a lovely village store and cafe. The house is very comfortable with many seating areas and very cosy with the Aga and wood burner (not needed, as weather good), as well as centrally heated and plenty of hot water. Bedrooms are very comfortable, with views, and good bathrooms. We loved all the books and the feel of a family home. The area is very interesting with lots of history and scenery. Would definitely come again to this house and the area.

  • We are 4 couples experienced at travel and chose Debbie’s place as it promised a superior experience. We were not disappointed and would stay again without a moments hesitation.

  • We are a family of 4 & we had a wonderful time in Debbie's house. It is a warm, inviting family house with a lovely garden. It is as lovely as it looks in all the photos & is in a beautiful location with pretty countryside all around it. You can go for walks through woods right from the house. There are 3 terrific pubs within walking distance (from casual pub fare, to more 'gourmet' food) and Henley is a gorgeous town about 10-15 minutes drive away. The house was a great base for us. Four lovely bedrooms, 2 sitting areas and a friendly kitchen with absolutely everything you could need. Beautiful to sit out in the evening with a glass of wine enjoying the summer evenings. Debbie was always responsive via email and very helpful with local suggestions (even helping me arrange a babysitter!). The neighbours were friendly & welcoming too. We all really enjoyed the house & our time there. It really is a gorgeous spot. I would recommend this to my family & friends who want to visit the area. There's so much in the local area to do & visit. Loved it, thank you.

  • The house was very well presented and exceeded expectations. It is ideally located in close proximity (walking distance) to a quality restaurant (The Crooked Billet) and the local Pub, The Cherry Tree which also serves good pub. food; both required booking due to demand. The house is less than 20 minutes to Reading and less to Henley. The local equestrian centre at Checkendon was also very good. We had a a very enjoyable and comfortable stay and can recommend the house and host.

  • This was the perfect house for our family Christmas. Debbie was a great, thoughtful host, sending us brilliant advice (which we took!) on local pubs and restaurants, the local butcher, where we bought our Christmas ham, and local walks. Since she was away, her friend Lee did a great introduction to the house, and answered a couple of questions during our stay. The house is lovely, the beds and pillows were extremely comfortable, with gorgeous cotton bedding, and even our dogs were provided for, with dog towels and bowls!
