  • Nice little flat very close to the beach. Communication was excellent and we loved having Mylo the cat come and pay us visits. Would stay again if we were in the area.

  • Reuben's flat is nice and located close to the beach. It was perfect for a short weekend away. The cat Milo was very friendly and was great company while I stayed there! Special thanks to Reuben for lending me his bike so I could travel around easier :)

  • Perfect location, you can see the sea from the front balcony, it literally is 30 seconds from the beach & central for shops, amusements, the pier, food establishments etc. All easily accessible within a 2 minutes walk. The flat is clean, bright, spacious and well decorated. The little touches of bread, milk, butter and cereals were an added bonus, thank you. We stayed for the Airshow and would certainly recommend as a perfect home from home even with our toddler.

  • Lovely clean caravan in a relaxing park.

    Claire2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • The place is really great :) We stayed 11 nights and everything was good. The place itself is well decorated and furnished, nothing too much but cozy. The neighbors were all quite and friendly. Late November it was warm and comfortable in the house. The fireplace was really good for late November! No doubt this place is 10/10. The only you should keep in mind when coming that there's no grossery shop in that holiday park so bring your food with you :)) There's a little one at the reception office but there is only stuff like cookies, snacks, ect. Nothing fresh like fruits or vegetables :) Thank for the stay, we'll come again!)

*Please note- a new house is currently under development next to the property, therefore it is currently likely that there will be noise during daytime hours (8am to 5pm). The accommodation is an annexe to the main house and has its own private driveway and entrance. The annexe comprises a self-contained private bedroom and bathroom (there is no kitchen or lounge). The property is located in Weeley Heath, 10-15 minutes by car from the Essex Sunshine Coast and 20 minutes from Colchester.
A semi-rural lane with a field and a paddock on either side. The road contains a handful of other properties. The property is situated within driving distance of main roads and local attractions.

The Beach House is situated on the Essex Sunshine Coast next to a Nature Reserve, right on the bank of a tidal creek with stunning views of the sea in front and the river behind. Situated over the sea wall surrounded by wildlife and dozens of bird species means we cannot accept dogs or pets of any kind; sorry.
The huge, usually empty, beach is just over the creek so you can wade over (bring wellies although we do have several pairs to borrow at the house) at low tide or walk down to the end of Beach Road to the nature reserve and through to the beach. Or you can stroll through the reserve, along the beach and back along the sea wall or stop and bird-watch from the hides or the sun deck. A booklet is in the house along with binoculars and bird books if you don’t know a plover from a pigeon!
The Beach House is in the tiny hamlet of Lee-Over-Sands which is about three miles from St Osyth and about five miles from Clacton-on-Sea in Essex. There are about 30 dwellings; about 20 over the sea wall but the Beach House stands at one end of the road with one other house next door owned by local people who use it for a peaceful getaway occasionally.
  • What an incredible location and house. Day one beautiful sunshine in February. Day 2 gale force winds of 70mph and torrential rain. Both equally inspirational. The views and wildlife are fantastic. Thanks so much Elizabeth. If you like to get beyond the sea wall and away from it all then this is the place!

    Nick2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Elizabeth's house was breathtakingly beautiful. The location and view was incredible and perfectly peaceful. The house is very well equipped so very helpful. If you wish for a peaceful escape from a busy world this is the perfect place. We throughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly return again. Thank you for a lovely weekend x

    Leah2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • It’s too easy to run out of superlatives for anyone wishing to get away from it all; switch off and listen to birdsong and the creaking of weather-beaten timber. The beach house is simply the most perfect place to relax and unwind. All communications were prompt and very informative. It is fully equipped and very well laid out. Nestling with the nature reserve, it teems with wildfowl and we were fortunate to catch a Starling murmuration on Sat evening. Simply can’t wait to go back !!!

    Steve2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • A calm and cosy (but spacious) house in the most amazing location - surrounded by nature. Lovely views from wherever you sit, and lots of nice surprises. Feels like a proper escape when you come from the city. Very helpful and communicative host. Would love to come back one day!

    Freddy2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our short stay in the beach house. It is EXACTLY what you need for a bit of space and time to reflect on the beauty of the world. The beach is on your doorstep at low tide, and wading through a shallow river to get there just adds to the fun. It is the perfect place to read and relax and we'd return in a heartbeat.

    Christopher2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic peaceful location. Was great to park the car and just be able to explore the coastline on foot.

    Lisa2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely magical place to stay. So secluded with an incredible view and a practically private beach! The house was also so well stocked with everything you need - loads of pots and pans and plates and cups, and all the cleaning products you might need. Really fantastic, we’ll definitely come back

    Penelope2019-04-22T00:00:00Z

  • I was very dubious at first because of everything I’d heard with regards to the Jaywick area. Kathleen’s mobile home is in the next Village along called St Osyths. Kathleen responded very quickly and removed any fears I had. Her mobile home is a fabulous place to have as a base for exploring. It’s well equipped and very clean. Myself, my partner, the 4 children and our dog all had an absolute blast!! We swam in the sea everyday, walked along the beach, used the on site pool (yes sometimes on the same day we’d been swimming in the sea) and just had the most relaxing time. We brought our own food with us but also had fish and chips from the shop that’s less than 5 mins from the caravan. It was AMAZING. We never visited the pub/club as the kids were worn out every day but it seemed full most evenings. Thanks to Kathleen we did all of this on a budget just before our wedding! I’m looking forward to returning when we can.

  • Unfortunately we could not move the accommodation because of the bad weather. But sharing with Kathleen was very good.

  • The caravan is neat and smart and in a perfect location right at the sea front. The site itself has a lovely indoor pool and sufficient amenities. The outdoor amusements and crazy golf were particularly nice. Our four kids were in paradise. On Sunday there was a market selling extremely loud plastic toys which our kids loved. :) Our advice is to bring LOTS of cash as no one takes cards, and the cash points have high fees and are not always available. We found that cafe/shop hours were extremely restricted and in general operate within strict rules for their own convenience, not customers, so we cooked more in the caravan than planned. Kathleen was a great host and the site managers were friendly and helpful on check-in and out. Great value for money and a perfect English caravan break.

  • We had a lovely time. The location is right next to the beach so you don't waste any time, and when you forget something or need a wee, you can be there and back in less than a minute. The campsite is traditional British holiday. Exactly what I went to as a child and what I wanted to show my son. However, unless you are addicted to chips, bring some fruit and veg with you.

Exposed beams and a decorative brick wall are reminders of the historic pedigree of this newly converted structure. Today it's an airy and ultramodern space with every convenience. Sliding doors open onto a sunny courtyard planted with flowers. Please be aware though, we are near to a road so not an isolated country retreat, if you were looking for solitude.
Very modern with plenty of character features - our lodge has its own parking and is completely separate from owner’s house while still close enough if you have any questions / requests. Close to railway stations in Great Bentley and Alresford, the town centre and harbour of Brightlingsea, and the University of Essex (10 min drive). Approximately 8 miles from Britain’s oldest town, Colchester, which has a good array of shops and a historic castle, and also not far from Beth Chatto Garden centre, Constable countryside, Mersea Island and many other fabulous days out.
The lodge is close to the towns of Brightlingsea, Thorrington, Great Bentley, and Alresford. It's an ideal base for exploring North Essex and Suffolk. The Beth Chatto Gardens are in the next village, Elmstead Market, and Dedham Vale is 15 miles away.
  • Would definitely come back! This outhouse was a great find and we spent a lovely day and evening here relaxing!

LocationSt Osyth is a small village to the west of Clacton. It offers a few shops and general stores along with 2 pubs and a good fish and chip shop. There are approximately 115 buildings around the village listed as historic or having special architectural interest including the Priory. Oyster beds can be found at the beach past the village. There are pleasant walking and cycling opportunities around the farm and village. Fishing at our reservoir (not on site) can be arranged (do enquire when booking), as can passes for nearby nature reserves which offer superb birdwatching opportunities, barn owls, little egrets, curlews and and regular sightings of the once rare marsh harrier have been reported. It really is an excellent base for Essex and Suffolk coastline, countryside and tourist attractions.Colchester is a quick drive or bus ride away, and as England's oldest recorded town there'll be plenty of historical sights to see – have a wander around Colchester Castle, picnic in the park then keep the kids happy by taking them to Colchester Zoo, voted the second best in the country. The famous Suffolk Heritage Coastline is also a short drive away with towns such as Southwold and Aldesburgh to browse around, or else head to neighbouring Wivenhoe for a drink on the quay, or Brightlingsea, ideal for crabbing with the kids, you must try Mac's Plaice for fabulous fish and chips here and you could even take the little foot ferry to and from Point Clear.Picturesque Dedham is a short drive away, perfect for walks in the Stour Valley, boating (bring your own kayaks / canoes or hire a row boat), cream teas and visiting the famous artworks of both Constable and Munnings.
  • Great location and superb space. Furniture and kitchen equipment are simple but just what one needs. Great value

  • The place was great, good location being a short drive to the beach, perfect for our needs

    Dillon2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Amazingly spacious converted barn. This place is a real great find and I can’t recommend it more highly. There is so much space and there were 11 of us with 2 dogs. The rooms are airy and fresh white linen adorns each beautifully comfortable bed. Fresh white towels too. There are 2en-suite bathrooms and a family bathroom plus 3 separate toilets making 5 toilets in all. !! No one gets caught short in this place!! The 3 showers were excellent. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. One small note is to take some spray multi surface cleaner though as none was provided to clean worktops, and no jay cloths to wipe with. But that’s just a small thing we missed that we always had at other places. However dishwasher tablets black sacks and many loo rolls and kitchen roll were all there. A nice touch to help out. The outside space is in the sun with plenty of seating and a large bbq. There is an amazing log burner in the middle of the lounge which heats the whole house and plenty of logs in the yard to use. Communications with Robert and Emma were excellent and replies to emails before arrival were immediately on point. We stayed with family and ventured out with the dogs on lovely walks across farmland and local beaches. I would rate this place 10/10. Excellent. We will be booking again!!!

  • Fantastic house for friends getaway. Views beautiful, house was clean, well equipped and nicely furnished. There was lots of communism areas so we weren't on top of eachother too. The log burner was a fab touch for cold weather. We would definitely recommend this place

  • Fantastic little hut to stay in. Compact, but incredibly well thought out and appointed. Great garden area to play in for the kids. The lushnas are separate from the rest of the site and are nice and private. On the owners recommendation we went to Wivenhoe, which was a cute little village by the water. We’ll definitely be back

  • Staying on this beautiful sailing barge was a lovely experience,I came with my partner and son and 2 labradors, excellent value for money,in fact I thought there maybe a catch and thought maybe there were other people staying there .Janes husband Andy met us and showed us the ropes. The boat is huge with lots of beds at either end to chose from, there's a lovely cosy snug area with comfy sofas and there were board games to play which made a nice change from having watching TV or going on the Internet. The kitchen was fully equipped with a massive double oven. The dining table was bigger than my kitchen at home.we had a sofa each,I think there was 5 in total. The sunset was stunning. We all slept really well,we only stayed one night but will definatly return soon as it's a lovely area to explore plus we missed high tide as we're sleeping so would like to experience this.Jane and Andy were lovely hosts, quick response to messages and met us on time..Thankyou for the pleasure of letting us stay on such a beautiful massive barge. Josie,Mario, Maxwell and dogs.

  • A great experience went with family and amazing caravan, modern very stylish and clean. Can’t feel a thing bed is very comfortable not a sign of mould or any dampness five star rating for the customer service information pack ready. Just a note if you want to use swimming pool and entertainment club you will need passes! £5.00 each adult and child 3 day entry or more for 7 day would of been helpful to have that advice! But besides that 5* can’t fault!

Eva was an amazing host answering all of my (very annoying) questions and being flexible with check in/out. A perfect location for a break. The house is beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for our stay. The beach really is 4 steps from the house too! Thank you so much!

Walk or cycle further along the coast and there are wild life areas for bird watchers and a thriving seal colony.
  • Jane was the perfect superhost! I arrived really late to check in but Jane was ready to recieve me and made sure i was checked in and comfortable. Jane went above and beyond what i expected from a host. The room itself was super clean with the bed itself being really comfortable. I really enjoyed all the hospitality i recieved especially the light breakfast ready for me when i woke up. This meant alot to me as im usually the type of person who leaves home without eating breakfast. Jane also managed to save my day as my car battery had died and she was able to get the car started for me with her jump leads. Honestly out of all the places i have stayed in Clacton this ones surely been the best. Jane is extremely friendly and hospitable, she made my stay worth while. I look forward to going back again :)

  • I don't know where to start. Jane is an amazing person. She stayed up late till 11 PM to receive me. The bedroom was very clean, The mattress was very comfortable and warm, sparkling clean rest rooms, spacious living room with a television, a nice warm smoking room overlooking the green garden, and a nice kitchen with all amenities. Apart from the wonderful stay, I must admit that Jane, herself, was a wonderful person to talk to. She provided me a lot of information about the local town, her own adventures, and guidelines to visit London and other cities around Clacton on sea. I would highly recommend anyone to pay a visit to this wonderful place, and I really really wish I would visit you again soon, Jane. Thanks Airbnb for a wonderful opportunity and thanks Jane for wonderful memories.

  • Janes room was just as described. Warm and comfortable. Location was central and just a few minutes from the railway station. She was fine with me watching football in the lounge on Saturday and made me coffee and toast in the morning. Highly recommended.

Wayside cottage is an end of terrace property which is 150 years old, located in the historic village of St Osyth. It is situated in between the village centre, where you will find all the necessary amenities, and Mill Dam Lake, where you will find water sport activities, scenic walks and bike rides. The cottage has been completely renovated to retain all the original quirky features of wonky ceilings, old exposed beams and original gate doors. The rooms are cosy and inviting.
A beautiful cottage with exposed beams, a modern cottage kitchen and a rainfall shower, original 150-year-old gate doors and wonky ceilings. The open fire in the lounge makes the house a cosy place in wintertime. We can supply an additional dining room chair or high chair if required. We will provide continental breakfast supplies, sufficient for your first morning, consisting of tea, coffee, milk, small selection of individual cereals, orange juice, bread, butter and jam. There is a charcoal BBQ in the outside storage for your use. On arrival you will find a chilled bottle of wine in the fridge to welcome you to Wayside Cottage. There is a secluded and sheltered very pretty garden to the rear of the cottage with seating and outside lighting. This is a tranquil spot to enjoy the summer weather and have a BBQ. All of the windows in the cottage are double glazed but there is an element of road noise that is out of our control at certain times of day. The village of St Osyth has a narrow street, with shops, pubs and a café. There are 61 listed and impressive buildings in the area as well as St Osyth Priory, which is Grade 1 listed and contains an Ancient Monument. The St Osyth holiday cottage is situated within the Conservation area. Please be advised that there is a temporary entrance to a new construction development on Mill Street which is in the vicinity of the cottage and being monitored by the Parish Council. The site is not normally in operation at weekends or bank holidays. Howlands Marsh and Colne Point are both part of the Essex Wildlife Trust found within the St Osyth Parish. In our small village you will find chemist, Mini-Market, Hairdressers, Florist, Chinese Takeaway, Coffee Shop/Bistro, Butchers, Indian Restaurant, Church and ,of course, a couple of Pubs. Hopefully everything you will need. There are plenty of local beaches and other lovely villages to discover. The Parish of St Osyth is reputed to have the least rain in the Country, unfortunately we can’t guarantee that, but you will find plenty to do in the area whatever the weather.

The small touchs such as candles and breakfast bits were fantastic. It was just a short drive (5 minutes) to the beach so very good location too. Lovely cottage with lots of character!! I would highly recommend to anybody. Thank you suzanne for a lovely stay!

  • Suzanne’s place in St Osyth was perfect for a few day’s downtime around New Years. We visited with friends and even our little dog Lily was welcome to join us. There was plenty of room for us all, in fact, it’s much more spacious than the photos look but still has a wonderfully cosy feel. Suzanne was always on hand for questions and was quick to respond. The place was sparkling clean and there were lots of lovely touches. Would recommend and definitely visit again.

  • A lovely, spotlessly clean, comfortable home from home. The communication and information given prior to our arrival was second to none. Suzanne goes out of her way to make it a pleasant, stress free stay. Every toiletry item you could think of, including toothbrushes, was available and when we arrived there was bread, milk, orange juice, tea, coffee, and even a complimentary bottle of wine! A great place to stay with a fantastic host, thank you.

  • We had a lovely time staying at the cottage, the place is spotlessly clean, warm and inviting, tastefully decorated with lots of thoughtful extras (like treats for the dog) that make you feel that you are staying at a friends house. Would definitely recommend.

  • Beautiful quaint cottage with lots of extra special touches by Suzanne; robes, toiletries, tea, milk, bread and wine. Lots of tips provided in the welcome pack and we had a delicious Chinese take away from the local restaurant and delicious brunch at Dukes in the village. • Simon’s place is new, modern and spacious. It’s in a rural location with country side views all around. The bed is very comfortable and I had a quiet and restful night in the room at the back. Simon is a friendly and chatty guy, very sociable and accommodating. I had use of the kitchen to cook a microwave meal and make cups of tea. The shower was adequate, water temp was tepid. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to other travellers.

    Kim2019-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic space, best I have been to and future visits to other places will struggle to compete with what's on offer at Simon's. Look forward to staying there next time I am around the area and would highly recommend the place.

  • This little gem has to be the best Airbnb that I have rented. It is a charming flat in a great location. Mark was so easy to work with, quickly responding to emails. He even checked on us the second day. The flat is spotless, well equipped, and even had special touches waiting for us (fresh flowers, fruit, milk). I would stay here again and would highly recommend it. We hated to leave!

  • Had an amazing night away at Janet's place. There are so many little touches that I don't usually find in an airbnb. There were crumpets for breakfast, tea, coffee, milk, bubbly, fresh orange juice. There was plenty of shower gel etc, lots of blankets to cosy up on the sofa and watch netflix, dressing gowns, slippers. There really was everything you need. The garden is really secluded and such a lovely space. The hot tub is lovely and warm, we BBQ'd some food. The cabin itself was lovely and warm too. We had such an amazing time and would love to come back in the summer and make use of the swimming pool!

    Vicky2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Janet's secret garden is a lovely private getaway you shouldn't miss. We've booked to go back in the summer so we can take advantage of the pool, there's loads of lovely little touches and the BBQ works like a dream

  • Had a lovely nights stay here. The cabin was so cosy and homely and the hot tub was perfect. Would definitely re-visit.

  • Janet’s place was lovely. The perfect secluded getaway to spend our anniversary. Hot tub is amazing and completely private. We were there during horrible weather but it was still warm and relaxing to be in. Cabin is gorgeous and cosy. Bed really comfy, best we’ve slept in ages. Shower very powerful and lots of hot water. There’s no oven but we cooked everything we needed on the BBQ, which is super easy to use. TV has Netflix and Amazon prime and sofa is the perfect place to cosy up and watch a movie.

    Bridie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely weekend away in the secret garden, hot tub was a highlight and the little touches that Janet included really added to the experience. Cabin was perfect size for 2 people and the outdoor garden area was huge, would love to be able to come back in the summer and use the pool! You won’t regret booking this place if you’re looking for a relaxed mini break.

Location St Osyth is a small village to the west of Clacton. Fishing at our reservoir (not on site) can be arranged, do enquire when booking, as can passes for nearby nature reserves which offer superb birdwatching opportunities, barn owls, little egrets, curlews and and regular sightings of the once rare marsh harrier have been reported. It really is an excellent base for Essex and Suffolk coastline, countryside and tourist attractions. Colchester is a quick drive or bus ride away, and as England’s oldest recorded town there’ll be plenty of historical sights to see – have a wander around Colchester Castle, picnic in the park then keep the kids happy by taking them to Colchester Zoo, voted the second best in the country. The famous Suffolk Heritage Coastline is also a short drive away with towns such as Southwold and Aldesburgh to browse around, or else head to neighbouring Wivenhoe for a drink on the quay, or Brightlingsea, ideal for crabbing with the kids, you must try Mac’s Plaice for fabulous fish and chips here and you could even take the little foot ferry to and from Point Clear. Picturesque Dedham is a short drive away, perfect for walks in the Stour Valley, boating (bring your own kayaks / canoes or hire a row boat), cream teas and visiting the famous artworks of both Constable and Munnings.
  • The location is superb and you can watch the sunset from the deck. Amazing how much you can fit into an Armadilla. For you techies, all mod cons, even mood lighting. Lovely walks and a very relaxing break

Stunning, modern and cosy three storey town house extremely close to the seafront. The house has been completely refurbished throughout in Winter 2018, with plush and luxurious fittings for a comfortable stay.
The ground floor houses one of the double bedrooms (with fitted storage) and a bathroom, so perfect for any guests who have difficulty using the stairs. The second floor comprises of a beautiful new kitchen, dining room and comfortable living room with balcony with sea views. Upstairs are the remaining two bedrooms, one master with double bed and the other with two singles. The family bathroom with shower/bath unit is also on this floor.
The property is ideally located for those who want to enjoy what Clacton has to offer but stay in a peaceful location. Clacton Pier, which is in the heart of the town is located only 1 mile away and makes for a lovely walk along the seafront.
  • This house was perfect for our adult family group of six. It is in a great location and was exceptionally clean for our arrival. It has everything anyone would need for a fantastic stay.

  • This place was perfect! The hosts had thought of everything. The house is extremely comfortable and we were not left wanting for anything! We have previously stayed in local hotels and this is far better value for money than the hotels. Sparklingly clean! 5 out of 5 on every front and we will be back! AMAZING!!!!

    David2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • There were five of us. Two couples slept in the large double and large twin beds on the second floor, along with the bathroom with shower over the bath. One slept in the standard bedded room on the ground floor, along with the very large shower cubicle'd bathroom. The kitchen, dining room and lounge were on the first floor. The kitchen was fully equipped, with large fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The dining room and lounge were very comfortable with a nice balcony, big enough to seat two. Good outside patio with table, umbrella and six chairs, plus two loungers. Everywhere had views of the sea and the beach. A nice walk along the promenade to the pier and beyond. Really enjoyed our stay and visited Flatford Mill NT and did the 30 mins boat trip up/down the Stour.....all beautiful.

    Michael2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Trust me just book, The house is large and spacious, has all the amenities you need plus more. It was spotless and very very peaceful. Kitchen is fully equipped. We had wireless. The host even left us some groceries which was a lovely touch. She also responds very quickly. What was useful was a well documented local guide which is in the house. There is a large garden, perfect for BBQs and there is literally sea views everywhere, were there is a window. The place is suitable for families (we travelled with two toddlers) and 3 adults. It's also perfect for a romantic stay. Beds are comfortable, towels were provided. I could go on. Trust me just book. Thank you Georgia.

    Priscilla2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect for our family trip I have not one bad thing to say about this place she literally thought of everything e.g cereal, bread milk, biscuits etc sparkling clean with a lovely back garden there was loads of things to do for the kids with the beach being 1 minute walk away there was also beach mats and buckets and spades for us to use which was such a great touch very cosy house with lovely views of the beach from most of the rooms and the balcony the pictures should show that off more short walk to clacton pier would definitely recommend

    Rebecca2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • The house is beautiful and in such an ideal location for the beach and Clacton itself. It has all you need, including plastic cutlery and tableware, games and even colouring pens and paper for the children, which was all a lovely touch. There's a charming garden, lovely balcony and pretty much everything you'd need. It's stylish throughout and was really clean. Lovely place!
