Places to stay in Big Sur

Places to stay in Big Sur
WE ARE NOT IN BIG SUR Travel deep into Carmel Valley and take a step back in time to this rustic, one bedroom apartment. The apartment is a unit in the main cabin, which is part of a small cluster of cabins. This is a remote setting: We are 40 minutes inland from Carmel/Monterey and and two hours away from Big Sur.
The Charles Green apartment is in the main cabin. The main cabin has three units. The Charles Green apartment is a one bedroom suite located between two studio apartments. The living room with an open ceiling, board and bat walls & wood floor, has a cozy couch in front of the stone fireplace & wood stove. There is one queen bed in the bedroom. It has a super firm mattress with a feather bed on top--quite comfy. It's an antique rope bed and very high off the ground. There is a skylight above the over-sized claw-foot bathtub, allowing for great soaks and gazing at the sky and branches of the ancient oak over-head. The kitchen has a vintage gas stove, small refrigerator, and supplies for cooking and baking. The stove is fine for roasting, but very pesky with over heating and not recommended for baking! PETS: Non-shedding, spayed FEMALE dogs are allowed on a case by case basis. No male dogs, no cats and no puppies! Dogs must be over a year old, well behaved, up to date with shots, and have their own bedding and towels (no muddy paws on the white towels, please). NOTE: If you bring your dog, she is to be with you at all times and never left behind. With the exception of state parks, this is a very dog friendly area and you should have no problems taking her anywhere. BUGS & DUST: This is a 90 year old building in the woods. We clean several times a week; we do our best, but it is impossible to keep dust & cob webs 100% out of the space. If you require modern building, dust-free, sealed spaces, then please, please rent some place else.
We are not in Big Sur-- it takes 45 minutes to drive to the coast. The Big Sur coastline begins just south of Carmel. Big Sur proper is another 45 minutes. The Village is twenty miles (35 minute drive) towards the coast. It is only about three or four blocks long, but has at least 20 restaurants, and 15 tasting rooms. For returning visitors: 10/10/16-- General Store served it's last Monday night dinner.
  • We really enjoyed this cabin! It was a bit cold in late feb/march but they provided tons of firewood for the fire-pit and we were able to cozy up on the couch with a fire. The hosts even left us a delicious bottle of red wine! At night there was some creaking noises which kept us up a bit but overall that can be expected in a cabin setting. 3-4 mins away you can walk to the river which was beautiful! We could hear the water gushing in the background every time we stepped outside. It made the cabin area feel very relaxing. Overall we really enjoyed the stay!

  • Marcia was a great host, and we really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was cozy and inviting and a wonderful escape from the busyness of city life. It was so special to shower under the skylight and the kitchen was stocked for the home-cooking we try to do even on vacation. Highly recommend a walk down to the river in the morning or a fire in the fire pit on a chilly evening!

  • We had an amazing time in Carmel at the cabin! The surroundings were so beautiful & quaint & getting to warm up by the fire & relax and read was exactly what we were looking for. Everything was perfect, extra touches & thoughtful provisions were over the top, I hope to bring my little one with me next time to do more exploring! Thank you so much Marcia!

  • A simply peaceful home on an idyllic California landscape. This was exactly the right place to disconnect and unwind. There’s nothing like being warmed by only the heat of an oak-filled fireplace for days. Surrounded by ancient mossy oaks and the sound of Carmel river, it’s easy to hear your own thoughts and slow down. We had everything we could possibly need to cook full meals and all other comforts. Marcia even brought us fresh baked cookies one afternoon! Really couldn’t ask for a better getaway.

  • This rustic cabin can support a peaceful retreat for a few folks!

    Colin2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Marcia's space will take you back in time, to a peaceful place immersed in nature. The cabin is comfortable and clean and there are trails nearby to explore the majestic oak woodlands. The soothing sound of the river is always there to calm you. There are old books and watercolor sets that will allow to to connect with your inner creator. A truly magical place.

    Brad2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful respite in nature! With the trek. I hope to return again soon.

  • The property is more magical and enchanting than I expected! This is a perfect cabin getaway if you are looking to escape the city and recharge in the woods. Marcia and Chris are exceptional hosts and helped us find anything we needed. The cabins are charming and just as Marcia has described in the listing.

  • Kevin is a great host!

  • The views are as amazing as described, if not better. We met Kevin & son at check in, nice people and great hosts. Had a little trouble with the DirecTV (reset satellite but were unable to get signal back). Bathroom is on ground floor (bedroom, living, and kitchen space are lofted) and chilly in the morning.

    Daniel2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Kevin has a wonderful place to stay. Easy to check in and out. Kevin is very responsive. Great location.

  • Very sweet, cozy, and beautiful space :)

    Kelly2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I had a wonderful weekend staying at Kevin’s bungalow. The space itself was gorgeous, clean, and had excellent views of the valley. If you have any interest in hiking Point Lobos has breathtaking views and is less than a 30min drive away. Our favorite restaurant’s would either be Demetra’s (lunch/dinner) in downtown Carmel or the restaurant From Scratch (breakfast/brunch). Also after having read reviews on how comfy the bed was prior to check in I feel I should add on that it was quite comfortable!

    Ryan2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and clean space. Super cute and cozy.

    Frances2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • WOW!! A stunning place for a beautiful getaway. I stayed at the Bungalow on my own for 2 nights and wish I'd booked it longer. It's a beautiful and quiet getaway perfect for a couple or individual. It's tucked away in the Carmel Valley, the mountain views are even better than the pictures. I suggest waking up early to catch the sunrise on the balcony. It was quiet and peaceful. Kevin was great with correspondence and easy check in. The bed was SO comfortable, the place was clean, and he had local suggestions. Upon arriving, the balcony doors were open and the sound of the fountain from outside was so peaceful. There's lots to do in the area as well, Carmel Valley restaurants and markets are a couple miles away, Carmel by the Sea is a 15mins drive, Carmel Beach is a MUST, and the road to Big Sur is so stunning, about an hour drive and I suggest stopping along the coast to take in the views. Have lunch at Nepenthe for the most epic view, and stopping at Big Sur Bakery is a MUST. I also suggest visiting Refuge Dap Spa, just 10mins away. One thing I'd suggest if you're a light sleeper is ear plugs, the location itself is as quiet as can be, but the refrigerator makes a rumbling sound every so often (woke me up a few times the first night) so if you're a light sleeper then ear plugs might help. And if you leave when it's light out but know it'll be dark when you come back, I suggest turning on the outside light as it's pretty dark in the hills. Enjoy your stay, you'll LOVE it and I can't wait to come back.

  • Jen & Rob's getaway cabin was an absolute delight! Everything was better than expected from the communication to the cabin itself. We wish we could have stayed longer!

    Chelsea2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place was incredible!! My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful getaway trip. The location was INCREDIBLE- the views on the balcony was breath taking. The drive up to the place is very very windy so I would recommend an SUV. I can’t thank Jen and rob enough. They even gave us honey on our way out! We can’t wait to come back

    Delaney2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Jen and Rob’s house is absolutely amazing! Beautiful views, quiet and peaceful setting, and all the amenities you need (extra warm blankets, organic bath products, whole milk and granola!).

WE ARE NOT IN BIG SUR Located deep in Carmel Valley in rural Cachagua, the studio over-looks the Carmel River and the Ventana Wilderness of Los Padres National Forest. WE ARE NOT IN BIG SUR! This is a remote setting: We are 40 minutes inland from Carmel/Monterey and and 1.5 hours away from Big Sur. The studio is an apartment sharing a common wall with the apartment next door.
We are located deep in Carmel Valley on a very windy, narrow and steep country road--some call it harrowing but worth the drive. The property has a small cluster of mountain cabins built in the 1920s as a summer retreat for a Carmel Highlands family. Nestled under old oaks, the studio apartment is tucked at the back of the main cabin, an overlooks the Carmel River. The main cabin, built in 1929, has two other apartments, all of which have their own entrances. The studio shares one wall with the one bedroom apartment. Included in the studio is a kitchenette stocked with basic utensils for cooking, allowing you to stay in and enjoy the peace and quiet of a retreat atmosphere. NOTE: The oven is on the blink and only heats to 260º. There is the stove top and toaster. The small apartment sized refrigerator is located next to the kitchen in the bathroom. The kitchen is stocked with basic breakfast items (coffee, teas, half and half, sugar, oatmeal) and cooking supplies (olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper). There is one full-size bed and a futon chair that makes into a twin bed. There is room for two adults and one child. The bathroom has a full-size claw foot bathtub, perfect for steamy relaxation. The deck over looks the Carmel River, which runs year-round. CHILDREN: The property is not suited for young children. SUMMER HEAT & BUGS: First, it's usually fairly hot here--the river is the perfect spot to swim or just soak your feet. Second, It would be good to bring Off! or equivalent bug spray for mosquitoes and gnats. Last, if you plan on doing any hiking make certain you bring Technu for poison oak.
The Studio is located in a small cluster of cabins. There are some vegetable gardens and minimal landscaping. For returning visitors: 10/10/16-- General Store, located one mile inland, served it's last Monday night dinner. The closest restaurants are 30 minutes away in the Village.
  • Marcia and Chris’s place was amazing! Super cozy and cute for a little couples getaway. My boyfriend and I came back feeling refreshed and zen. Beautiful mornings with coffee on the balcony. Super friendly hosts! Chris gave my boyfriend some tips for adventuring around the area. We’d love to come back!

    Brittnee2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about our stay at the studio was amazing! Marcia's detailed directions made finding the place very easy. We loved the peaceful patio by the river so much that we completely scrapped our plans to check out the town and just stayed in and relaxed. We cannot wait to return!

    Matt2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Marcia and Chris are such special hosts that it's no wonder their space exudes such magic. If you love the outdoors and are looking for a quaint and cozy space to relax, write or talk to birds this is your spot. The price is unbeatable and it's so serene. Marcia and I had some lovely chats and she told me all about the space, I was lucky to be there during the week as I got THE grand tour. Both Chris and Marcia were so helpful from building me a fire to helping me with the fabulous bathtub they were always close by to make sure I was comfortable. If you choose to stay in this charming spot please make sure to say "hi" to the birds for me :)

    Rachel2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for a cozy, serene retreat, then look no further! Marcia’s cabin is the perfect place for a quiet getaway. It is a bit of a drive, but if you don’t mind some windy roads the destination is well worth it. The cabin is very clean, and the amenities are great. We had a wonderful stay!

    Kat2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very cozy and unique studio by the river. Easy to find, and very welcoming host. Especially during winter season I would recommend heating the stove throughout the day for a warm night. Firestarters help a lot. Everything was great, the bed was comfortable, and I enjoyed my day on the deck. The only sad thing was that I didn't have my wife with me - she would have absolutely loved the place.

    Heikki2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend. The cabin was nice and cozy. The property was large and fun to explore (and just sitting by the river never gets old either). Marcia was very communicative and a sweet person. There were others on the property but it still felt secluded and off-the-grid.

    Steve2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Marcia’s place is a little piece of heaven in the mountains of Carmel Valley. It’s a great place to stay for anyone who wants to enjoy the sights of Big Sur without breaking the piggy bank. The place is the very definition of quaint and cozy. We went during the winter season so it got a little cold so I suggest bringing some Duraflame if you don’t want to take too much time on starting a wood fire. It gets warm pretty fast. Marcia was such a thoughtful host and got us extra firewood when she thought we didn’t have enough. My boyfriend and I had such an amazing time there. We would definitely visit Marcia again :)

    Anna2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing gem of an airbnb. Highly recommend checking this place out. The scenery is AMAZING and the space is charming and also pretty clean. My wife and I had a great time getting away from it all here.

This gorgeous place on the edge of the world, we call home. We love to share it. Ranch living, Animals and the creative arts, are our passions. We have had guests from all over the world who we are happy to call friends.
Comfortable two bedroom cabin, on a private working ranch with goats, chickens, horses, cows and sheep. House is complete with kitchen, full bath, washer /dryer, and wireless internet. Ocean views from both bedrooms, extra sleeping space in loft. Located in the heart of Big Sur, 1 mile from Big Sur Bakery and 1.5 miles from Pfeiffer state park, very close to Pfeiffer beach.
It is rural, peaceful, and full of the mountain and ocean drama of weather and light, perfect for relaxing or more active exploring.
  • The cottage is fantastic. The views out of this world. Very homely, very comfortable. And feeding the goats was a highlight. A truly unique experience.

  • Great experience, great views, and very, very relaxing.

    Jon2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • If you know and love Big Sur you will enjoy this as a one-of-a-kind experience. Our family and friends loved helping out with the animals and appreciated the opportunity to share in this beautiful location. Sarah and Sky and Loki were great hosts. Such great memories were made and we hope to be back soon!

    Jessica2019-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • What an absolute treat! This is a remarkable property with incredibly generous owners offering exceptional hospitality. Our kids got a full farm experience complete with milking goats each morning! The views out to the Pacific are stunning, beds are exceptionally comfortable and the kitchen is well appointed. I loved reading on the deck. The kids loved close up observation of woodpeckers and the loft!

    Heather2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • A very special place! We've been to Big Sur multiple times but this was by far our best experience. Hidden away in the hills between Highway 1 and the ocean, this cozy cottage is the perfect place to just rest, relax, and take in the stunning views with a glass of wine, which is pretty much all we did the entire week. Our host was very welcoming and we got to enjoy lots of treats from the farm. The Wi-Fi isn't meant for streaming videos but works for everything else. (Seriously, why would anyone want to watch videos out there?) If you really want to experience Big Sur, just sit back and observe. It's one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

    Joachim2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so special. I’ve been to Big Sur multiple times and staying here made me realize I’ve only scratched the surface previously. Stay here if you’d like an authentic view of what it would be like to live here. The location could not be better.

    Kathryn2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Can not recommend enough! Breathtaking views, outstanding hospitality with personal touches and fresh delicious gifts from the farm. Thank you so much!

    Kristyn2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truly special, a little gem hiding in the forest but with the most amazing view you can ever imagine. The kitchen is well equipped and the beds very comfortable. We had a lovely time resting, cooking and roaming the property as well as driving into Carmel which is close. Upon arrival there was goats milk and goats cheese in the refrigerator and flowers in every room. We loved it!

The bed is super comfy, the shower is nice and there are nice natural products to use, a welcoming bottle of white wine in the fridge. Also great recommendations for places to eat in the valley which is a quick 5 min for food or wine tasting. Loved it!

It’s just a quick drive to Carmel Valley and Charlie’s place is trucked in the mountains! Beautiful views all around - and so quite! We even saw deers in the morning! Charlie was super nice and made sure got it to settle in! We will definitely be back when we are in the area! Thank you!

  • Brian’s place is lovely, remote and scenic! If you are looking for a nice getaway that has a gorgeous view of the ocean — this is the place. He was extremely nice and hospitable.

    Destiny2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, comfortable place with great views. We were very relaxed and had a great stay.

    Andrea2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Due to our own booking needs we moved from the downstairs location to the upstairs location halfway through out the stay. Although both locations were outstanding, I would recommend the downstairs location over the upstairs. This unit (upstairs) was nice but the other unit was much more spacious. The view was wonderful and you could see the ocean from the unit. It was so nice waking up to that view! Brian was accommodating and had a grill we could use. We did buy the charcoal and lighter fluid as most people don’t use the grill. Would recommend!

  • Excellent little weekend getaway! Very thoughtful touches!

  • Fantastic, highly recommend. Gorgeous view, generous amenities including bottles of wine, coffee, vegan options for breakfast, tea, a walk-in shower and the most comfortable bed. Enjoyed seeing whale spouts in the distant waves. Just know there’s no internet but there will be WiFi when you get in, so begin check-in before arrival. Thank you for a great stay, you won’t regret booking this spot!

  • My boyfriend and I wanted a romantic week getaway in Carmel Valley so we could sip wine and enjoy Big Sur - and that’s exactly what we got! The only thing that was disappointing was the fact that the bathroom is not attached to the bedroom so you have to step outside to go pee in the middle of the night - which freaked me out at first and I’m not sure if I ever got used to it. The shower is great except for the fact that the toilet is in the same room and I was a little sad there was no bathtub. Overall, amazing place, location, amenities, and value. It was a great spot to come back to after our adventures in Big Sur. I especially loved how amazing Gina and Jay were - sending is private notes with recommendations where to go - and we top every single recommendation and they did not disappoint! We really felt well taken care of. Would definitely stay here again.

    Amelia2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Gina and Jay were great hosts! They thought of everything for the amenities, the place was gorgeous, and it’s the perfect spot to getaway with a loved one. We’ll definitely be back!

  • Cozy cottage in an amazing area!

    Madeline2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect two-night getaway on our trip down the coast! Some of our favorite time in the area was time spent on the back deck of the cottage reading and sipping wine.

  • Clean and as pretty as advertised!

    Jennifer2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay, especially when the weather is nice and you can be out on the deck or hammock. We had unusually cold rainy weather for most of our time here, but got one nice morning to enjoy the hot tub. It was wonderfully private for our romantic getaway. We loved the little touches of the free bottle of wine/champagne, the bathrobes, and sandals to use with the hot tub, and all the suggestions for local experiences to enjoy. We would definitely come stay again.

    Karen2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was the PERFECT place to spend our honeymoon! So romantic and beautiful! If you are nature lovers it’s a must! We were just a small drive from Big Sur and Monterey. We loved the place and raved about it the whole time! Lol

The apartment itself was very homey and comfortable with lots of amenities. If we are ever in the area again, we will be sure to revisit!

Our place is approximately half-way between Carmel and Big Sur villages. You’ll love our location because of the intimate contact with mother nature. It is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and furry friends (yes, we are pet friendly). Our $25 per person, per night for more than two persons applies only to adults age 15 or older, not to family children under age 15
  • A wonderful unique experience in the magical treehouse. I can’t think of a thing that could make it more special. Probably not like anywhere you have ever stayed before. Charming.

  • Doug and Donna's cabins are the most perfect little getaway. We stayed for two nights with our pups and absolutely adored it. Donna and Doug were hospitable when we arrived, giving us a tour of the property and offering us their passes to the aquarium in Monterey. The bathtub on the deck was a dream and we can't wait to get back to their cozy little slice of paradise!

    Ryan Patrick2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing time, a truly beautiful rental!

    Dustin2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is located 3 and a half miles into a very dense and quiet forest and after a short time there you will feel the city poison disappear. Though you'll feel far away from everything and everybody you are only a 12-15 minute drive down to the coast and all that Big Sur and Carmel, etc., have to offer. It has all the kitchen amenities you'll need and the very private and secluded outdoor shower and bathtub on the back deck were surprisingly, a real treat. Go to this cabin. Mike O

  • Overall we had a really awesome, very memorable stay in the redwood forest. Would definitely recommend to others and we'd love to come back. The accommodations were very comfortable, with good quality duvets, sheets & towels... Very comfortable - so glad we stayed for 3 nights - just enough time to help unwind. Close enough to get to Carmel (we were going to do one night there and 2 nights here - but decided to do 3 here - and so glad we did). Just a very peaceful stay. Bring warm clothes if you are staying there in winter. They did have lots of blankets - but it was definitely cold in the morning (we came in February). We also brought food to cook there, and there was a full kitchen available to make dinner. Definitely a place you will remember.

  • Brian's place was gorgeous. It was exactly what we were looking for and what we needed for a nice, quiet weekend in a beautiful place. The downstairs unit is what we stayed in, which felt like an underground forest castle in a way. The view is not of the ocean, but of all the surrounding plant life. The views of the ocean are just upstairs, however. Also the unit contained a record player and MANY records to play while we were hanging out in the space. Make sure and bring a speaker with you to enjoy it.

    Brad2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I would absolutely recommend staying at this adorable Airbnb in Carmel. Close to Carmel and Monterey, but a secluded getaway perfect for relaxation. Brian also had all the little touches, like water, granola bars, and coffee. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Amazing stay - would recommend to anyone! This space accommodated 2 adults and a child perfectly. Brian was available when we needed him. He was also super accommodating to us as we spent one night in the downstairs location and 2 nights upstairs. He allowed for us to just put our belongings next upstairs while the cleaners cleaned from the previous guests. I was worried about sharing the location with other guests but our entrance was very private. Would recommend!

  • We had a great time in a tent in February! It was a bit cold at night, but we brought sleeping bags to supplement what the camp provided— I’d definitely recommend that— and I’d love to come again in the warmer months.

    Kerry2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Saddle Ranch and I must have recommended the place to 7 of my friends already! Super close to fun Carmel activities and Big Sur, comfy bed, and nice atmosphere all around. The ladies at check-in were super friendly also and gave us activity recommendations and helped us get settled upon arrival. I already want to go back!

    Hannah2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at Saddle Mountain was amazing. They were so welcoming and kind upon arrival--showing us where the tent was, lighting our fire for us, and giving us some tips about our stay. We LOVED it and can't wait to return.

  • Super clean and cute glamping experience! Thanks for the hospitality!

    Jess2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I took an impromptu road trip up to Big Sur and we couldn’t have chosen a better location to stay at. The staff at Saddle Mt. Ranch were so kind and accommodating from the moment we arrived in the area. We were taken to our luxury tent which exceeded our expectations! The space was clean, comfortable and cute, and it was a short walk to the community bathrooms and showers (which were also clean!) Since we arrived at night, the staff even had the heated blankets ready for the chilly night which was very thoughtful. The location of the campground was great and only a short drive from good restaurants and local attractions. My boyfriend and I can’t wait to return and we have been recommending this place to all our friends!

    Natalie2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • It is a great property. I love all the little lights and the amazing fireplace on the deck of the luxury tent. I traveled here solo and felt so comfortable and cozy. It was perfect and exactly what I was looking for!

  • Great place!! Sooo private!! Loved having WiFi cause no phone signal. The movies that were left were things we’ve never see before which was a treat! Sooo off the beaten path it’s incredible! The drive there was magnificent!! I agree with the others commenting about “get there in the daylight” cause u will miss the turn! 😋 I can not recommend this place enough! The bedding was also super comfy and the heater kept us nice and toasty all night! Wish we could have stayed longer 😁

  • Such a wonderful stay, very clean and secluded like we wanted. Me and my husband enjoyed the location as well as the store market close by! Kind of hard to find but we found pretty quick as soon as you pass houses on the left with a high light brown fence get ready to look for mailboxes to the left and there’s an address of 7000 something to the right, make a quick left turn down and it’s to the right! Will definitely be back again!

    Lauren2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • It took us a bit to find the house... definitely download the map before you go because it is quite easy to get lost. Also, listen to Daniel’s instructions. There isn’t lights on the road so make sure you get there before sunset or you’ll be driving in pitch black darkness. The house was cute and cozy. Secluded and very very quite. It has everything you need for a good comfy stay.

A tranquil and serene park-like setting with all modern amenities included: Gas fireplace, Plush Queen size bed, high speed wifi and a private deck overlooking a babbling creek. Lovingly remodeled in 2017 as a romantic retreat among the redwoods.
ELOPEMENT PACKAGES AVAILABLE! I have been a wedding and events designer for 35 years and offer elopement packages for busy couples looking for a hassle free and memorable wedding ceremony. We include flowers, minister & small wedding ceremony, cake, 1 hour with a photographer and dinner reservations. All of this is customizable.
  • Colette & Al are amazing hosts. They sent over a PDF file of how to get to the cabin past a certain point, cabin rules, & things to do in the area. Cell service goes out the closer you get to the cabin. If about you’re coming in the evening definitely try to get there before night time. We had to call Colette to come and guide us to the cabin. She was so sweet & accommodating. Even though there isn’t any cell service the cabin has Wi-Fi connection for you. We didn’t mind because we were trying to stay off grid for the duration of our trip. Such a beautiful space. Many personal touches were added to the cabin which we really enjoyed. If you don’t have an itinerary don’t worry about it. Colette & Al provided many options to check out around town. We opted to cook majority of our trip so if you do plan on cooking definitely grill while you’re there. It’s amazing. There isn’t a oven or stove so we brought our rice cooker, Forman grill, & juicer. We contacted Colette in advance to know we should bring our own appliances. Over all, Such an amazing experience and we definitely will be back in the future. Thank you so much Colette & Al <3

  • Our stay was seriously BEYOND. Without getting too far into my personal circumstances, I am a single-dad with two young boys + small biz owner who quite literally NEVER gets to go on vacation anywhere, let alone to to a paradise like this. Colette and Al's space is truly immaculate, and has all of the right touches to make even a brief stay like ours feel special. My travel companion and I liked it so much we wanted to move in :) Comfortable bed with soft, luxurious linens and heavy blankets? Check! Perfectly appointed shower with bench and excellent water pressure? Check! Gorgeous stone countertops and kitchen sink? Check! A perfect combination of seclusion and connectivity? Check! Coffee and snacks on deck upon arrival? Check! Gracious hosts who communicate thoroughly but are otherwise almost invisible? Check! A wall of windows revealing towering redwoods and a creek? Check! And the list goes on . . . The location proved just perfect for a variety of outdoor day-trips to whale watch, hike, swim, and eat all up and down the coast. So grateful to Colette and Al for the time and care spent making this space and the land around it everything it is.

    Sam2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Second time for us staying here and it was just as charming as our first visit. Really thoughtful touches with complimentary refreshments, bathrobes & slippers, bathroom toiletries, kitchen supplies, local recommendations, and Direct TV and music apps. The bed and love seat are both super comfortable, and we loved being tucked away off the beaten path. There generally isn't cell service but wifi worked well. Excited to come back again.

    Austin2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Colette and Al were the most amazing hosts- they provided clear and helpful access instructions, directions, and a guide for the house all of which were extremely helpful. Their place reminded me of a gorgeous well appointed tree house amongst the redwoods. It was lovely to be able to drive into Carmel in 10 minutes yet stay in such a peaceful quiet respite. Colette and Al really thought of everything; they left us snacks, coffee and juice, even valentines chocolate :) , robes and slippers, and a basket w blankets and flip flops for the beach. I would highly recommend this incredibly peaceful little retreat.

  • This cabin in the woods is such a special place, the perfect retreat. The hosts are super responsive and made us feel very cared for through all of the the little touches. Any questions we had were anticipated and answered. The whole experience is such a treat. We couldn't decide whether to stay in the cozy cabin the whole weekend or to go out and venture into stunning land surrounding us. The space feels so good to be in, well-designed, and sparkling clean. We want to come back again and again!

  • Beautiful place to stay! Feels secluded but just a short drive to local activities. Cabin was very clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend!

    Sarah2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • This serene cabin is the perfect respite from bustling tourists and noise. The babbling brook and crackle of the fire in the stove was about all the noise we heard, as well as some faint birds and wildlife. The cabin is gorgeously renovated in a chic, rustic yet modern style and is perfectly accommodating. My husband & I enjoyed the perfect long weekend getaway from our kids! The cabin is secluded and yet only a few miles from everything we needed in either the Valley or Carmel-by-the-Sea! Highly recommend and thanks again!!

Mountain setting in a snug cabin with beautiful views, great hiking.
The house was my sculpting studio for years, and before that, a hay barn. It's now a snug cabin with lofty views of the wild Los Padres National Forest. The surrounding vineyards and hiking areas make this a perfect getaway for artists, writers or anyone wishing to escape the hustle of city life. This is a ranch setting, a scenic 45 minute drive from downtown Carmel. Excellent hiking trails are accessible from the ranch into the Los Padres National Forest. Enjoy views of several vineyards surrounding the property, each with wine tasting rooms in Carmel Valley village, 20 minutes from the ranch. This unique and beautiful area on the central coast of California is far enough inland from the coast to enjoy distinct seasons. Summer can be hot in our mountain valley, ranging from the sweltering 90s to perfect 70s, depending on coastal fog and temperature fluctuations. Spring is gorgeous, always, with a field of wildflowers in front of the cabin through May. Fall and Winter are beautiful, green and bright, but the nights are chilly. Once in a great while- not often enough these years- it will rain! Come prepared for the season. Hikes and walks through the surrounding vineyards, around the mountain behind the house, or into the nearby wilderness area. Trek up to Tassajara Hot Springs, or visit the MIRA Observatory on the remote end of our valley, or visit Carmel, Pacific Grove and Monterey for numerous cultural and tourist attractions, including the famed Monterey Bay Aquarium. Whale Watching excursions from Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf provide amazing and up close encounters with migrating whales and other marine life.
The stars at night, the birds, peacocks, deer and other wildlife, the walk behind the house up to the vineyard and the mountaintop yoga platform, the view of the Los Padres National Forest, and the hike behind Los Padres Dam are attractions in the immediate area.
  • Decided to take a trip here with my girls friend for my birthday. It was even better than expected. Kris’ directions were spot on and very detailed and we found the place even in the dark (although she does recommend you drive up there while the suns out since there are minimal lights around the area). The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you would need. Definitely felt like home. Cozy cabin vibe and you have a large part of the land outside to yourself. We’ve already recommended this place to a couple of our friends! Highly recommend!

  • Amazing place to stay. Me and my wife stayed here on our honeymoon and we loved it.

    Christian2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, what a wonderful place to stay. I am sad we couldn't stay longer. The house was super cozy with plenty of charm, a rustic setting, and so many amenities. Do your grocery shopping for your stay beforehand because you don't want to make the mountain trek too often. Once you get there, settle in, hike the grounds, watch the horses graze, and enjoy the incredible peace and quiet of the area. An amazing place to get out of the hustle and bustle to recharge your batteries.

    Grant2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome stay! Kris is so attentive and really made sure we were comfortable in the space! Such a great experience!

    Cristian2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Kris' place was absolutely fantastic. Would recommend and certainly plan on going again!

    Naomi2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Kris' cabin was incredible in so many ways. The views are spectacular, hiking right out the back door and Kris was an amazing host. Highly recommend.

    Neil2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • I had a so lovely experience in Kris’s house. It’s like my dream house. The house is so delicate—with beautiful paintings, carvings, fabrics, and even interesting tiny musical instruments. Kris is also a considerate host, and her house has almost everything I need. Maps, guides, kitchenware, and even her cute handwritings about the surroundings. I had an unforgettable time playing guitar on her roof, and cooking for my love in her sunny kitchen. These memories will never fade away:)

    Windy2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • I was looking for a quiet, somewhat remote place to stay and unplug while I was in the area for work. Kris' place has all the rustic charm I was looking for and Kris is sweet as pie. Her directions to find the place were super helpful as I ended up arriving in the dark. She was always quick to communicate, offer local suggestions, or even just let me be as needed.

Drive up to your own privately paved and gated driveway to a home with a full 365 degree view of redwood and oak ridges. Full sun all day long. Perfect for one or two people. Arrive, relax and take a dip in the hot tub viewing the beautiful mountain ridge as birds sing and red tailed hawks circle above. View the stars at night while it's perfectly quiet and private.
  • We stayed here for our elopement and could not be more delighted -Mary was an excellent host with great recommendations in the area. The site itself is incredible - if you want that true Big Sur experience or a peaceful getaway -- would definitely recommend this place.

    Katherine2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Secluded, private, peaceful, with every amenity you could ask for. We loved this place and recommend it highly.

  • Beautiful location, amazing architecture, glorious natural setting with privacy.

    Lino2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Had a fantastic time in Mary’s home, the location is so peaceful and tranquil! Thank you Mary for sharing your beautiful home with us.

    Mira2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Mary’s home could not have been more beautiful. She clearly created this home with so much love. The outdoor fireplace, Hot Tub, and bathhouse far surpassed our expectations. The bed was comfortable and the main home was spacious and warm with the indoor wood burning stove. The surroundings are breathtaking and expansive and offer a full experience of nature that one would expect in Big Sur. I’m looking forward to our next visit to this Big Sur Dream Home.

    Aimee2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Mary’s place is every bit as magical (if not more so) as it appears in the pics. It’s really a unique and beautiful space, immersed in nature but with all the modern conveniences. The hot tub at night with the sounds of the bubbling brook is a treat! The house is isolated, which is great if you’re looking for privacy and true peace and quiet. As a solo traveler I was initially surprised by how remote it felt, but after I settled in it never felt unsafe. It’s also just a short drive to all the sights of Big Sur. Mary checked in to make sure all was going well and was a great host. A one of a kind find.

    Catherine2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Everything that has been written about this place is true. Truly a one-of-a-kind place. Our check in and arrival, which I was a bit apprehensive about, was super easy. Viola was very easy to communicate with and we appreciated her help.

    Daniel2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful tucked away lost where you can forget about time, people, and responsibilities. Excellent communication and care. Big shout-out to Viola.

This charming 1930s cabin boasts a striking stone-tiled fireplace and an eclectic mix of furnishings, all drenched in natural light from skylight windows. Grab a blanket and a warm drink and sit out on the patio to catch some early morning rays.
This quiet space amongst the redwoods is a two bedroom cabin suited for four guests. Fully equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, oven and stove. The property is encircled by ancient redwoods and lush greenery making it feel like a true fairyland. Our property is located approximately 10 miles south of downtown Carmel and a short drive to state parks, beaches, and hiking trails of Big Sur.The Grove is located in Palo Colorado Canyon about a mile off of highway 1 between Carmel and Big Sur. The first 3 miles (4.8 km) of road winds through a Redwood tree-lined canyon alongside Palo Colorado Creek. The road is a single lane so drive carefully. The road ends after eight miles at Bottcher’s Gap which is a campground and trail head into the Ventana Wilderness and the Los Padres National Forest. When you turn onto Palo Colorado road cell service gets spotty. Once you get to the house, guests have access to WiFi and a landline phone if needed. Text messaging works perfectly. We do have cable television but always suggest that our guest use our home as an opportunity to explore the area or engage in good conversation.
Nestled into a grove of redwoods in Palo Colorado Canyon, the cabin is about 10 miles south of Carmel-By-The-Sea. It’s a short drive from the Route-1 coastal highway, which offers stunning scenic drives south toward Big Sur.
  • Great place in an idyllic setting. Easy access to Big Sur and Carmel. Cozy cabin in the woods with beautiful kitchen. I might suggest different curtains on the bedroom doors so there is some additional privacy between guests.

  • The great reviews for this house made me hit book button. There is no point in me re iterating what has been said by previous people except to say …yes .. the five star reviews are spot on. This house made our 3. Night trip absolutely perfect. The lighting is so warm and the wood burning stove so warm and cozy. Perfect after long walks. There is even a beautiful AGA cooker in the kitchen. Beds and sofa so lovely and comfortable. Carmel and Big Sur are so wonderful and this house makes it the trip of a lifetime.

    Ellie2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Alyssa and Meghan made us feel right at home! Such a beautiful place to bring in the New Year! The house is an oasis and I wish we could have stayed longer! Highly recommend and will definitely return!!

    Becca2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Spent a wonderful weekend in Big Sur, and this place was one of the highlights! The place is tastefully decorated, with a beautiful kitchen and a great claw bathtub for that soak after a long hike. Can't recommend this place enough!!

    Eric2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Alyssa & Meghans cabin is now my dream home. From the moment we turned off the coastal highway onto their winding forest road I knew it was going to be a special few days. The cabin was a bit chilly when we first entered but the wood fire was super easy to operate and there was ample amounts of wood, we had the place toasty in no time. The space heater did a great job at keeping the bedroom warm at night. 10 mins to Bixby Bridge, and not much more to amazing hikes in Point Lobos & Garrapata State Parks, the cabin is located in an ideal spot. From awesome recommendations for local trail running, to extremely generous engagement gifts, Alyssa & Meghan were the best hosts we could ever have imagined. We can’t wait to return!

    Danny2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • This place is absolutely incredible!! A review can't even begin to do it justice. My recommendation is to not waste another second looking for other options and to book this place now! Conveniently located off of highway 1 and a quick 20 minutes to downtown Carmel by the sea, but also secluded enough to offer the perfect escape from reality. Alyssa and Meg were extremely accommodating and went out of their way to make sure we had an awesome trip and comfortable stay at their home! The cabin was immaculate and the attention to detail on furnishing and decor made our experience in the redwoods super unique and serene. This is by far the best experience I've had with Airbnb. Cannot say enough great things about our trip to Big Sur/Carmel/Monterey and our stay at Alyssa and Meg's was among the highlights!

    Lexi2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful spot! I miss the wood burning fireplace already!

Enjoy entire suite in a magically secluded nature; spectacular horizon/ocean view, completely private, accessed via detached entrance, very spacious(950sf+) yet cozy and airy. Just 10 min drive to Carmel downtown, 5min to Monastery Beach & Pt. Lobos Park. You’ll love the location that's perfect for relaxing, exploring Big Sur, Carmel and Monterey. It's a French brick rustic feel where you can call a sanctuary.
Wake up and indulge in dramatic ocean views from your private balcony. Apart from the main house on 1.5 acres, the guesthouse suite is exclusively private with spectacular panoramic Pacific ocean and horizon views from the entire guest house. Access to the guesthouse via your own stairs the other side from our main house. A very romantic and rejuvenating getaway into this peacefully secluded yet conveniently located to anywhere; 10~15 min to sophisticated and chic Carmel downtown and to the countless coastline hiking trails like Pt. Lobos and Garrapata State Park are just 5min from us. This is a place to unplug and be in the moment as the location is epic as you will feel remote and in nature while remaining super close and accessible to downtown Carmel. Most of Carmel downtown's wine tasting and Carmel Valley wineries are a few minutes away. Comfortable and very spacious(950sq.ft+) our guest house is rustic yet appeals a unique character such as French Brick Chateau House and offers super Cal-King & Deluxe Queen beds. (one bed per two guests). You have choices of a firm or soft bed. [ Pls. read prior to booking] It's a rustic French Chateau style brick house, not a contemporary or modern. We live in an ecosystem where's an endless beauty of the wilderness and a suburban lifestyle. We try our best to keep the house very clean and our guests have been much pleased with their stay. Sometimes we can't catch the cobwebs completely which is very common in our area, particularly for our 20 feet high ceiling as they produce it every day and that's what we live in as our nature. So, if you are okay with our lifestyle here, you are most welcomed to stay. If you booked at our rustic brick house for your getaway but spending your precious time to pick some flaws, please stay somewhere else. We provide 2 comfortable beds for your preference; soft or firm one. However, if 2 persons use both 2 beds, there will be an additional cleaning charge of $25.
We are truly blessed to be able to live in this magical neighborhood. Considering our neighbored's hotel with the partial ocean view room rate at$830 ( low season) and going above $1800(busy season) plus resort fees and etc. of much smaller space(323sqf), our guests truly appreciated the spectacular ocean view, spacious and secluded blissfulness in our guesthouse. The neighbors are very friendly but we respect each other's privacy and their value of serenity. *We ask guests to have quiet time between 8PM and 8AM in case you are at the balcony as the voices are traveling down to the neighbors. Appreciate your respect for our neighbors.
  • Quiet, cozy chateau nestled into the hills overlooking the Pacific. Excellent location - just 10 minutes from Carmel and about 40 minutes from Big Sur. Su was a wonderful hostess and provided us with great recommendations in advance of our stay. We hope to return one day!

    Lauren2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Su’s place was incredible. Amazing view from the balcony and much larger than I expected. Su’s also a great host, greeted us upon our arrival and made sure we had everything we needed to have the perfect stay.

    Cameron2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Su's place is a truly relaxing place to spend a few days. Within touch of Big Sur and other beautiful landmarks. If you're up for staying inside, Su's place is a perfect place, with wonderful views of the ocean and sunset.

    Vova2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Su's place - the Chateau on the hill! So cute and really wonderful to have a small kitchen for quick breakfasts or lunches. The place is exactly as in the photos and the view is incredible with the crashing surf just down the hill. Su was incredibly responsive and even offered a few little "extras" (like an umbrella when it was raining). She had great recommendations for sights to see in the area and places to eat. If you're looking for a place to stay while you bump around Big Sur - this is the spot! Affordable, clean, great location, and a caring host.

  • A comfortable cabin in a beautiful setting. Lovely redwoods and valley views, with the peaceful sound of the creek rushing below. Cabin has everything you could need in terms of cookware, coffee maker, toaster, etc. We really enjoyed our stay, and appreciated the personal welcome from Doug and his friendly dog :)

  • Douglas’s serenity cabin is a beautiful place tucked away in the redwoods of Big Sur. Very quiet, peaceful and quaint, I would absolutely recommend this place. Douglas and his wife were helpful, kind, and gracious, really great hosts! I had a great stay!

    Trapper2019-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Doug's cabin. The tub was probably the highlight of the trip. I could have soaked for hours and hours, listening to the creek below. The cabin was nicely appointed, very clean, and also warmed up quickly (it was chilly outside when we were there). I was also happy to find a book of Big Sur hikes we used to find dog friendly hikes. Doug is a great host. He showed us around the cabin when we got there, making sure we knew how to use everything in the cabin. He also was accommodating when we emailed the week before asking if we could bring our pup with us. Finally, my husband left his glasses at the cabin and Doug sent them to us quickly. We will absolutely be back.

    Katherine2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cabin. Very cozy getaway. Isolated in the redwoods and very private. Dog friendly, so our pup could enjoy too. Just south of Carmel, and about 30 minutes north of Big Sur, so the activities nearby are countless. Doug was very happy to provide us with suggestions and directions for good hiking and dog friendly beaches.

Available for shelter-in-place bookings-please send inquiry. Our barn, Valley Eden, has been completely remodeled into a one bedroom tiny home. The cozy getaway is entirely secluded on a private site above our primary residence. Your romantic retreat includes a private yard with outdoor seating, a bar-b-que, parking and exceptional views. 20-30 minutes to Carmel/Monterey.
Valley Eden was once a horse barn with a hay loft. It is a totally self-contained tiny home There is a queen sized bed in the light filled bedroom. The small couch in the living room is cozy for watching Netflix or taking in the view and cuddling. The full kitchen contains everything you need to prepare meals. Enjoy a glass of wine and take in the beautiful sunsets and views of the entire valley from the private deck. Expect to see families of deer, rabbits, fox and many bird species during your visit. Our eco-friendly property is powered entirely by solar and I collect rain water for the landscaping. It was recently remodeled using many reclaimed and recycled materials.
The neighborhood is rural and although we are very close to shopping, dining, hiking and services the place is very quiet and private. The views from the 5 acre property are exceptional, particularly from the barn.
  • This was our second time at Valley Eden and it didn’t disappoint! Michaela is a wonderful host. It’s an amazing view, quiet area, full kitchen and clean place to do some reading, cooking, and de-stressing.

We got to know ourselves so much more plus we had a blast with the magnificent view there, we were actually going hiking but the place was so awesome that we spent the whole time there. Michaela is an amazing host, she even left us chocolates and a HBD banner for our celebration. We are looking forward to come back soon for another great weekend.

  • We spent wonderful days in this well-equipped house. The house is in a very special place with a great view of the sea. We spent a whole day sitting on the terrace looking at the sea and relaxing. The living room is wonderful with comfortable sofas and the master bedroom is excellent. The kitchen is well equipped. We enjoyed every day in this wonderful atmosphere. Clearly the trips you can do from here are spectacular. Tracy gave us great directions so we had no problem finding the house. Check-in and check-out were easy. We would definitely come again!

  • The Cliff House is phenomenal, to say the least. To be honest, it is not possible to articulate how magical the home is. It is perched on a cliff above the gleaming Pacific, and the space is well-designed with a natural flow from the front door through the kitchen and past each bedroom, living room and bathroom. In addition to the perfect house, Tracey has to be the best host on this platform. We had quite a bit of discussion before our stay and she is very responsive, honest, ethical and kind. It is clear she wants every guest to have a wonderful visit, no matter how long or short. Once we checked in, Tracey reached out to make sure we didn’t need anything and made us feel very comfortable. The home is quite private, despite the many windows with sweeping ocean views. It is very easily accessible and was stocked with everything we could need during our stay. We absolutely cannot wait to visit again. Thank you, Tracey!!

  • This place is amazing. A rare experience. It was a bit of a splurge for me, but worth it in my mind. Would consider staying again sometime in the future

  • If you are looking for remotely magnificent Pacific Ocean experience, this house will not disappoint you. It is clean. Internet connection was stable. We had no issues with electricity. Patio is private with enough outdoor furniture. Ocean view from everywhere in the house was spectacular. We appreciate host for their generosity making us stay with 2 dogs....

Cozy, charming cabin at the edge of a large meadow on 85 acres of rural Monterey county. Perched on the doorstep of Los Padres National Forest, rugged Ventana Wilderness, and Tassajara Zen Center. The 140sq ft cabin features 2 beds, and a separate building with composting toilet and a hot outdoor propane shower. This is a perfect getaway to unplug, retreat, hideout, and reset. *PLEASE READ THE DETAILS IN THE DESCRIPTION BEFORE REQUESTING TO BOOK.* This property is 60 miles from Big Sur.
The cabin is rustic and tiny- but insulated, covered in reclaimed wood siding and repurposed corrugated metal. It overlooks a large meadow and is situated next to an incredible old valley oak tree. There are 2 beds in the cabin - one full bed on a frame, and one queen size futon that folds into a couch. Inside the cabin there is a light and a heater, drinking water, and some spare bedding. A few steps away from the cabin is the bath/outhouse. The outdoor shower is heated by propane, and the outhouse features a composting toilet.
It's real quiet out here. The average parcel size in this area is around 50 acres, and it is just a few short miles to the Los Padres National Forest boundary, and a couple miles beyond that to the Ventana Wilderness. So, to the south, between the Ventana Wilderness and Hunter Liggett, there are several hundred thousand acres of totally empty countryside. Looking up into the night sky, visitors may barely discern the glow of civilization to the northeast, but to the south, it's nothing but bright stars and ink black sky. Our most consistent visitors are wild animals.
  • Kelley and Mike’s place is an absolute gem in the mountains. We stayed here for a weekend night and wish we would’ve stayed longer. The cabin is super cozy, surrounded by beautiful woods, and incredible night skies. It is one of the best romantic getaways my partner and I have had in a long time. Highly recommend it!

    Diego2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Wow. What a gem of a place. Michael and Kelley have built a wonderful hideaway perched on top of a hill with everything you need and nothing you don't. We spent two nights staying here and enjoyed the hiking trails on property, read books under a shaded patio area, cooked delicious food (note, there is no kitchen, sink, or refrigerator, so you need to bring your own camping stove, eating utensils, and cooler to store food), and played games. This was the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. This is PERFECT for anyone looking for a rural getaway with a wonderful outdoor shower and simple living. Wonderful stargazing at night and the three dogs on the property are super sweet and fun (we played frisbee with two of them for over an hour). Michael even let us harvest some tomatoes and peppers from his home garden!

    Jeff2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Peace, quiet, a tranquilty I don't think I've ever experienced. Will definitely return again. The space is beautiful, thoughtful touches. It feels like home. Magical magical place.

    Robert2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Sadly we had to cancel our trip to Kelley’s place, but we were so grateful for her understanding of our situation, as well as her quick communication.

    Aaron2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing remote place to stay! Very cozy and quiet. Just what we were looking for! Would def come back and stay longer next time. Thank you so much for having us!

    Ian2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time. The cabin was comfortable for the two of us for a short stay. The bed was good, the room had extra blankets, and there are lots of essentials in the cupboard. The outdoor bathroom wasn't a problem - I was relieved that the shower was hot and had lots of pressure. Kelley's directions (both in airbnb and printed in the cabin) were helpful and very detailed. The cabin is far enough away from any cities (pay attention to the driving instructions!) that we definitely felt like we got away from stress and were able to relax in the countryside.

    Rich2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny cabin was the perfect place to get away and unplug. The cabin we perfectly stocked with amenities and information for a night in the cabin. The outhouse and shower were easy to use. There was plenty of information about seeing the property. There is also a cute little town with a market fairly close by if you need to pick up any last minute things but there are plenty of personal care items in the cabin. The owners have a dog who visited us in the morning and she is an absolute angel, so friendly! Overall, I can’t recommend this cabin enough if you’re looking for a way to get away from city life for a little while!

    Cassandra2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Kelley's place is a great option to get away from the city. All my pre-trip questions and concerns were answered promptly and clearly. At the cabin, there are detailed and thorough instructions on how everything works. The provided driving directions were very clear and I was able to find the cabin at night without any issue. I highly recommend Kelley's cabin for those looking for a place to unplug.

Spectacular views, large deck, complete kitchen with gas range, bathroom with tub/shower, close to 25 restaurants, wine tasting, and hiking trails. Cozy, quiet, private. TV with all the movie channels + music. Washer/dryer. Double bed (antique solid walnut frame). Star gazer's paradise. Everyone is welcome. LGBTQ friendly. Cross-Cultural hosting. 5 min. to Garland Park with lots of hiking trails. 15 min to Carmel Beach or 20-25 min to Pt Lobos.
The house where you are staying is right above ours. We never go up there when we have guests. We have 5 acres which is straight up and down and on a dead end street which provides a very quiet private environment. There are lots of interesting books and gorgeous views out the large windows.
It is very quiet here with the exception of the birds singing. The sky is big and on a clear night you will see millions of stars. Our little village is filled with amazing gourmet eating establishments who use local fresh organic food and fresh caught fish. There are even more wine tasting rooms!
  • Ideal place to stay to visit Big Sur beaches and Carmel-by-the-Sea. Such a peaceful retreat with all the amenities (loved the plush towels and so many)! Provided excellent resources for sightseeing, food, etc. Such wonderful and generous hosts!! Hope to visit again!

Studio 50 is a small one room guest house with bath, detached from the main house on a fenced-in property. Very quiet road, no street lights, 5 - 10 walking minutes to the center of CV Village. Kitchenette but NO KITCHEN SINK! There is one in the bathroom, of course....
CV Studio 50 is a very pleasant, bright and colorful room for two with shower and kitchenette with fridge/freeyer, microwave, toaster, espresso maker and water kettle. There are SIGHT blocking curtains, but no DAYLIGHT blocking curtains. Please refer to pictures. We decided to turn the no longer needed den into a cozy guest room. The place is completely renovated and insulated. Carmel Valley Village is the center of wine tasting in beautiful sunny Carmel Valley. Excellent restaurants, cafe/bakery etc. We especially recommend Rustica and Corkscrew, Wild Goose for breakfast... and there are many more, all good. We are located 5 min. walking distance from the center of the Village, where you'll find plenty of opportunities to enjoy yourself. The Holman Ranch (weddings, special events, corporate retreats) is 2 min. from the Studio, the iconic Running Iron Restaurant & Saloon just down the road, over 20 wine tasting places, CV Market, art galleries and shopping. You reach Garland Regional Park (main entrance) in 5 minutes (driving), Carmel by the sea 12 mi., Pebble Beach 14,58mi., Laguna Seca Raceway 8,75 miles, Monterey Bay Aquarium 20 miles, Tassajara Zen Mountain Center 16 miles, Big Sur 43,28miles, Esalen Institute Big Sur 52,28 miles If possible, don't miss Point Lobos, 25 minutes drive from us - a gem! The best bakery of the Peninsula is located at the mouth of the Valley at the Barnyard Shopping Center: Lafayette - everything you can think of a french bakery has to offer, best quality you can get. And there is much more to enjoy, like whale watching, horse back riding golfing etc.... Carmel Valley enjoys at least such as 333 days of sunshine per year!
Carmel Valley attracts people who embrace and enjoy nature, wildlife and tranquility, as well as the art of fine dining and wining, art, long epic walks in Garland park and much more. It's possible that you will be greeted by locals: "Good morning! Another ugly day in Carmel Valley..." - It's the everlasting sunshine that keeps us locals almost always in a good mood! Guests also come to the Valley to visit big events at Laguna Seca, Pebble Beach, The Holman Ranch and more.
  • My husband and I had a great stay at Katia’s place. We hope to be back next time we find ourselves in Carmel Valley.

    Anne2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful little quiet one room cottage. The pictures do not do this place justice. Walking distance from town. Katia is an outstanding host. She made sure we were comfortable with everything before giving us complete privacy. We just loved her little place. She definitely has a gift for hospitality with little niceties everywhere. We have never been in such a well equipped, well thought out Air B&B!

    Peggy2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so precious! From Katia’s kindness and welcoming presence to all the cute decor. This was me and my boyfriend’s second stay here and it was just as amazing as before! Definitely recommend for a couple’s getaway in a beautiful area.

  • Great location near the village. Comfortable and clean. We will definitely stay here again.

    Christy2019-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • Katia's studio is very comfortable. Love that it comes stocked with complimentary snacks and drinks - dark chocolate KitKats for the win! You're also walking distance from a ton of wine tasting rooms, but you won't hear any traffic noise. Easy access to Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea too. Would definitely stay here again.

    Soraya2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • This sweet little sanctuary is so chic and cozy! Its got unique combination of vintage and modern. It was within a walk to local eateries and has tons of flavor. Our hosts were quite loving and cheery. We will come again.

This home is located in the heart of Big Sur on a family ranch, a short drive from Pfeiffer Beach. You can either walk to the Big Sur Bakery, take a short drive to Post Ranch, or cook your meals in the modern open-concept kitchen. The property sits 1,000 feet above the ocean where the Pacific meets the mountains. Watch condors and hawks sweep the sky, the fog curl around the coast, and the sun set on the sea.
This is a green eco home, built with every care at minimal use of products that are harmful to our environment and our bodies. The house offers 2000 square feet of living space that includes three bedrooms, two bathrooms, laundry room, and great room and features open beam ceiling and gypsum plaster with beeswaxed polished concrete floors throughout. The absolute privacy and quiet makes this home the perfect place to get away from it all. Listen to the ocean waves and watch the light and the reflections of the surrounding forest and mountains bounce off the multitude of windows.
The house is a short drive to many hikes, restaurants, and small stores that line the Big Sur valley.
  • Absolutely beautiful property, house, and surrounding area. Wake up and be surrounded by sweeping mountain, valley and ocean vistas. A place that cemented memories to last a lifetime! Kira is an extremely kind, welcoming and helpful host. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting an immersion into serene nature.

    William2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a truly magical mountain retreat. The road to the house is rugged but adds to the adventure. The house and surrounding garden is gorgeous, with the biggest live oak I've seen outside of Savannah. There are mostly mountain views with a small view of the ocean at the house. But you can walk to the end of the driveway and through a small cow pasture for stunning sunsets. The host is very accommodating and the neighbors we met on our walks are equally friendly. Everything was very Eco-friendly and yet luxurious. Overall, an outstanding place to stay in Big Sur.

    Lisa2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • The house and land are even more spectacular than the listing would lead you to believe. Situated right in the middle of Big Sur - just between Pfeiffer Beach and Post Ranch Inn, the house is a tranquil modern oasis perched on a remote hilltop, hidden down a long winding private road through cliff side cow pastures, nestled within a citrus and herb filled garden, with views of the Pacific Ocean on the horizon. Deer and hummingbirds are frequent and friendly visitors. The house itself is stylishly appointed, with comfortable bedding and inviting books to lounge. The kitchen is well equipped for even the most ambitious meal prep. And Kira is a kind, welcoming and attentive host. She is quick to respond to questions and very accommodating. I hope to return again very soon.

  • Several other reviewers stated that the photos don’t do this home justice...this is the truth! This property is like a sanctuary...clean, contemporary yet cozy, a calming design and energy, spectacular views, well-supplied. Truly a gem! My family could have been completely content spending our entire time in Big Sur within the gates of this property. Kira is a lovely host, providing clear and plentiful information before and during our stay. I wholeheartedly recommend this home.

    Amanda2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Kira’s place is absolutely amazing. It’s centrally located in Big Sur on a beautiful mountain property with awesome views. The house is immaculate and well designed and well stocked with everything you need. It was perfect for our group of 3 couples and no one ever felt crowded. We left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. I think this may be the best value in the area. I would love to stay here again.

    Jimmy2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Kira is one of the best hosts we have come across. She was very much involved in making our stay comfortable and gave us good tips on local restaurants. The house is in an extremely quiet nature environment and it was relaxing for us during the stay. We would love to come back again in the future.

    Anand2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for natural beauty all around you nestled on top of a mountain along a long and windy road through pastures, this newly renovated home offers a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The house is well-situated to the beach, hikes, local food--all that Big Sur has to offer. From the time we booked and through the rest of our stay, Kira was attentive yet mindful of also keeping a distance. In other words, she was available, if you needed her. Kira was a great host and I would highly recommend her home.

    Veronika2019-08-19T00:00:00Z

Gazebo camping is like a luxury tent, offering a luxurious bed with electric blankets, lighting and electricity. You can enjoy a personal propane fire pit and BBQ on your adjacent yard overlooking the Carmel Valley. It's just a short walk to the bath house where hot showers, toilets and basic kitchen sink awaits. All you have to do is bring your food, toiletries, ice chest of drinks and you are ready to camp.
  • My boyfriend and I had the gazebo tent for one evening, and we had a lot of fun! We’ve renamed it the “Love Shack!” Very perfect for a relaxing, indoor/outdoor experience! The heated blanket was perfect and kept us warm all night. Great for those who kind of want to Camp out, but kind of don’t! ; ) The camp ground as a whole is gorgeous and laid out beautifully! If you don’t want to cook for yourself there are local restaurants/ cafes just a 10 minute drive away. We brought one small cooler for drinks and water, but that was as we needed. The personal fire pit was awesome and romantic! If you are someone who needs a bathroom very close to you in the evening or early morning the walk to it takes just a few minutes, but would be a bit tricky for those who have to get there quickly or frequent! ; ) Just try and plan your bathroom trips ahead of time! Overall, I’m booking again for May because we want to come back with our two children. Loved how inclusive the whole camp ground was for the entire family! Big beautiful pool and larger playground for the kids. Sparkling clean everything! Highly recommend Saddle Mountain Ranch! ❤️

There you watch the moon rise, perhaps a shooting star or two... all the while listening to waves crashing, sea lions, crickets, owls and the creek in the canyon below in preparation for the best sleep you've ever had. There are many wild critters in the area including deer, fox, bobcat, mountain lion, coyote, skunk, wild boar as well as (a few venomous and) many harmless reptiles. We have abundant bird life in the area and are fortunate enough to have a bird's eye view of a Red-tailed Hawk's nest used every year by a mated pair of hawks. We cherish and respect all of the inhabitants of the area... human, and especially furred, feathered and scaled. Please tread lightly on their land.
The house is located in a very quiet, residential area at the end of a private road. The house itself is perched on the edge of a canyon and borders wilderness area. Most of the homeowners are retired and many are only here part-time. This is not a hotel room, it is our home. Being next to the canyon, be aware that noise travels far. Please be courteous and respectful of this by keeping the decibel level of voices and music down after 9pm. Also please drive slowly on the curvy roads to and from the house. There are no street lights in our neighborhood. House numbers are out of sequence; it is wise to make sure you have the written directions to get here which will be available to you upon booking.
  • This is a beautiful tranquil stay with private views of the ocean, a jacuzzi overlooking a wooded canyon, a fully equipped guest apartment, and exceptional hosts. Kevin and Jill are by far the most detailed and communicative hosts we've encountered, which sets expectations well and provides unique local information one can't find elsewhere.

  • We saw the amazing reviews but were wondering if it would be as good as they say. Spoiler: the stay was even better than we could have imagined. The hosts are so incredibly welcoming: great communication, lots of tips about the local area, and just overall such wonderful people. And their place, wow, is insanely beautiful. We really enjoyed waking up early and drinking coffee outside to look out into the ocean and watch the many kinds of birds hanging out in the area. (The hosts have even kindly supplied a bird guide book as well!). The location was also perfect for us: close to great restaurants in Carmel but also close to the many trails we wanted to hike. For us, this place was truly a sanctuary! We can’t wait to come back some day.

  • If we could give more stars we would! Kevin and Jill go above and beyond to make sure your stay here is absolutely perfect and comfortable. Not to mention they are two of the loveliest people we have ever met. They are kind, generous, and truly care about making sure your trip is full of serenity and beauty. The views are outstanding. So outstanding, that we wanted to spend the entire vacation lounging on their patio. The views from their patio are breathtaking. My wife and I spent every morning drinking coffee in the lounge chairs, watching the wildlife around us while listening to the ocean. We ended every night in the same place drinking wine and watching the sunset. The hot tub is not only relaxing, but a perfect spot for star gazing. When we did decide to leave the sanctuary, we went wine tasting in Carmel which is only about a 25 minute drive. There are lots of little tasting rooms in walking distance of each other along with many restaurants for lunch or dinner. There are also grocery stores near by if you choose to cook which we did simply because we wanted to spend every minute we could at hawks nest. Their kitchen is full of everything you could ever need to cook (and more). If you decide to stay here, you will be blown away, and just like us, you will be planning your next trip back before you even leave!

  • Best week ever at Hawk’s Nest Sanctuary. Everything was perfect....Kevin and Jill set the bar high with communication, kindness, and making us feel so special and welcome. The place was spotless, comfortable, and the view breathtaking. So much to do in the area...Point Lobos, Big Sur, Pfeiffer State Parks, Monterey.... but the favorite was the canyon walk to the redwoods right at the end of the road. We will never forget this whole experience...thank you Kevin and Jill!!

  • The views from Kevin and Jill's home are simply amazing. We loved having our morning coffee and breakfast sitting outside looking into the valley and ocean. After spending our days out hiking and exploring, we enjoyed a glass of wine looking out into the beautiful sunset. There are large windows in every room in every direction, this space is truly special! Kevin and Jill are also wonderful hosts and even offered to drive us to and from town if we wanted to enjoy a few drinks at dinner since we were celebrating our anniversary. They were extremely responsive hosts and their home had many thoughtful touches. Stargazing at night in the hot tub was one of our favorite moments since there is no light pollution out there. Even though the home is in a secluded and private area, it wasn't too far or difficult to get to downtown Carmel and Big Sur. Highly recommend!

  • What a spectacular place! We could not have been happier with our decision to stay here. Kevin and Jill are lovely people and will make sure you have everything you need and more.

  • The home here at hawksnest is a remarkable home and words do not do it justice. It’s peace and beauty is truly something that must just be experienced. Anyone looking for a quiet and beautiful place to get away is in for a treat here. The hosts were wonderful from start to finish. If you are on the fence about staying here, don’t delay...just do it!!

  • Hawk's Nest is just as advertised. Situated in one of the most picturesque canyons between Big Sur and Carmel, the property boasts canyon and ocean views from almost every window, as well as the hot tub! Everything was very clean. There is a library of DVDs, CDs and books to enjoy while you stay. Brochures, magazines and guides for the area are available in the property for you to review to help plan your itinerary. Full size kitchen, dining room with beautiful view, very large living room, ample bathroom and large bedroom. The bird watching on the patio is unreal - colors and varieties I have not seen in years or ever! You are nestled into the canyon, however you are wonderfully situated between Big Sur and Carmel. Big Sur is only about a 15-20 min drive south and Carmel about 15-20 min North. Amazing location and Jill and Kevin couldn't be nicer! Great communication and they respected our privacy. Highly recommend!

  • The Vineyard House is truly an awesome place to stay and unwind. We reached there late Friday evening, and were happy to see that the place looked much better than advertised. The house was sparkling clean, and Anna's check in instructions were to the point, and accurate. The house is spacious, and can easily accommodate 6-7 people. The beds/linen/couch/table were clean. The property is located in a quiet neighborhood and is maintained very well. I'd definitely like to come back here again!

  • Stunning location! Great house for our family! Highly recommend for an amazing retreat from the city. Close enough to get to Carmel with a drive through countryside. Loved it here!

  • I got married November 1 at Anna’s winery. We rented the villa, which held the ceremony we also rented the hacienda, which held the reception. I had 14 guests total and everyone had the time of their life! We stayed a few days and made it a retreat. We hired a shuttle that took us to the coast for photos and caterers to come to the hacienda. All vendors were easily able to find the place and loved it as well. Guests enjoyed the pool and hot tub and looking at all the art in the house. It was also an easy, scenic drive into Carmel and Monterey. Anna and her team are on point with everything you could need, and were lightning fast with communication. My wedding was one of the best experiences of my life- and perfect for an intimate gathering! Everything was just beautiful.

  • Beautiful property surrounded by picturesque hills and vineyards.

  • This place is absolutely stunning! We are beyond happy to have done our intimate wedding there. It is a place that we will never forget. Photos posted don’t do this place entirely justice. The vineyards are well kept. The pool area is gorgeous. Our guests were also so pleased to stay there. There are plenty of beautiful spots to take photos and our photographers were delighted. Anna was very communicative and kindly answered all our concerns often minutes after sending a message. So thank you! If you are thinking of doing a wedding there, do it!!! You, your family and guests will be very happy you booked this place!
