We had a very pleasant stay with Yakuso. The host was extremely friendly and accommodating towards our ignorance when it came to Japanese food. The accommodation is simple, but has everything you need, similar to a Ryokan, yet more simple. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a Japanese experience.
A traditional room showcases tatami mats, with low round seating cushions arranged around a sunken hearth. Sliding doors are visible in the background, revealing calligraphy and artwork. A lantern stands nearby, enhancing the historical ambiance of the space.

A great and fun experience. Super friendly host who made sure we felt at home. If you go, be patient as he is hard of hearing.

Art and Social Tourism (Social Tourism) Base "Koto Art Research Institute": Single Room 4

My stay here lasted about a month, and it was such an amazing place to stay. Not only is Ishinomaki beautiful - there is a great walk along the river and you could see and hear Blue Impulse - Japans aerobatic demonstration team doing practise in the sky, making smoke trails shapes and patterns. There are some great food places and a supermarket just a short walk away. It was a little hard to find the entrance but it becomes clear when you see it once. Ishinomaki is in an amazing location to see Matsushima and Sendai, so no lack of things to do! The hostess was very kind, giving me a welcoming check in and often checking up on me to see how I was doing and if there were any problems, as well as giving local recommendations and having fun conversations. I came in the winter, so it was a bit cold but I was provided with a sore heater for my room as there wasn’t other guests fir the majority of the stay. 5/5 ⭐️ come and stay here! I had an amazing stay and made some amazing memories. ありがとう!

Yohei is a very friendly and helpful host, he actively reach us to understand our trip and gave us extra information to understand more in what we need to prepare or how it would be like near his place. He came to JR station to help taking our suitcases and drove us to his place, whixh is very welcoming and hassle free as a tourist who never been to that area. After he knew we are going for the firework festival, he gave us information about which train we should take and the route to get to the firework area at Daisen, he even offered to drive us back if we could not catch the last train (I think he need to drive for at least 45 mins to get to Daisen). Yohei also recommended a cafe nearby and drove us there, it is actually within walkable distance. The cafe serves really nice coffee and cheesecake, and astonishing view at their outdoor seats at thee backyard, which is right next to a lake, and we realised even tourist board took poster image at the same cafe with the view to promote
A charming house is illuminated under a starlit sky, showcasing a warm glow from the windows. The roof features a distinctive red colour, and there is a glass section that invites starlight. Surrounding foliage suggests a natural, tranquil setting.

Naturally & Simply

English: This place was better and a lot nicer than I thought it would be. It takes time to reach the area if you are using the JR BRT bus, which is free with the JR pass. But, the place has its own kitchen, a nearby convenience store, and a super market in town so you can eat well and on the cheap. The host is a pretty nice and laid-back guy. He is pretty good at explaining things if you have any questions. I was able to use Japanese with him, but he also seems to know English. The bath, shower, and toilet areas are clean and in good working order. However, if you are staying in the private room, you will have to step outside of your building and into the one next to it to use those things. This place is pretty close to the ocean. You should stay here if you want to see the Japan without all of the tourists.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The room was clean and cozy. The breakfast and dinner (to order separately) were delicious and the portions large. Hosts don't speak much English, but they are very friendly and a lot of fun talking to them. Overall, I found it very pleasant and it almost felt at home.
