Modern Cabin w/Panoramic Mt Shasta View

OlgaRating, 5 stars1 month ago
This past weekend, I rented a house for our group, and I must say, with my extensive experience in finding vacation homes, this choice was absolutely spot-on. The location is ideal—within a 10-minute drive, you have access to shops, convenient trailheads, the city center, and more. The house itself is entirely wooden inside, creating an incredibly cozy and inviting atmosphere. It was impeccably clean, and for the first time, I encountered a whole basket of house slippers for guests—emphasizing the home’s cleanliness and attention to detail. The windows offer a majestic mountain view. The large windows flood the house with natural light, and combined with the wooden interior, it feels like a fairy tale. There are plenty of sleeping arrangements, additional rooms, and dining areas—ideal for a large group. As someone with experience organizing hikes and trips with large groups, I wholeheartedly recommend this house for your next getaway.

Creek and Waterfall | Mountain View & Pets Welcome

StevenRating, 5 stars3 days ago
Very spacious and plenty of furnishings/kitchenware for two bedrooms. This is not the kind of Airbnb with 4 plates and a skillet. Cute decorations and lots of considerate amenities (tea station, picnic supplies, first aid, plenty of kitchen tools, etc) supplied. Walking distance to the cafes of Dunsmuir, and Dunsmuir was a great place to stay for hikes around the area.

Mount Shasta views! Private home, spacious land

DavisRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
No photos can do justice to this wonderful, wonderful house. The location is perfect—you get a stunning view of Mt. Shasta, and the ability to see so many stars at night is absolutely mind-blowing! Not to mention how cozy the house is—beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. My friends and I are so thankful the universe led us to Janet's house; it truly was the cherry on top of our trip to Mt. Shasta. We’re already looking forward to coming back.

4BR Cottage Downtown Sanctuary

RenateRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We had a very nice stay at this beautiful house. It's dog friendly and the yard is amazing - big and nice outdoor seating areas. The house had everything we needed, great kitchen, cute bedrooms, comfortable beds and plenty of additional lines and towels. One can walk downtown to restaurants and shops very easily and all are dog friendly. Host communication was prompt and we were very comfortable and would definitely stay here again.

Dunsmuir Escape! Downstairs 2 bedroom ICE COLD AC

AshleyRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Scott's place is beautiful remodeled and spacious. The location was perfect for exploring everything in the Shasta area! Dunsmuir is a small town and many businesses were closed on some days or not open late enough to accommodate us after a long day of exploring, but the kitchen had everything we needed to make our own food, and the local eats we were able to get we're fantastic! The only things to note for those who are picky: the mattresses are quite soft and the water heater might be a bit small for three long-haired travelers who have been playing in the dirt all day (we did not coordinate showers well when we found this out but it should be fine if you plan for it). But overall, our stay was great and we would definitely stay here again!

Upper Loft/Near Mossbrae Falls/River Access

AshmiRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Beautiful 2bed/1ba in a peaceful private community. The property is renovated on the inside, true to the pictures. The check-in and parking instructions were accurate. The Sac River is a block away so you can hear the beautiful sound of flowing water all day. The big room is great for a couple (+ child), the second room is great for a solo person and cozy for a couple. The rest of the condo has a spacious living area with tv/games/books, a fully equipped kitchen, and an outdoor balcony with great views where you can eat out in nice weather (which we did!). Note that the train tracks are just across the river, so you will hear the train a few times including at night - but this seems to be the case anywhere in Dunsmuir. I would recommend this place and hope to be back in this nature retreat again.

Quiet Downtown Apartment & Close to Trails

MikeRating, 5 stars3 months ago
This place is great, especially for the price. While it's just a 1 bedroom apartment, it feels much bigger than the photos show, especially the bedroom. The bed is super comfy and the bedroom doesn't share a wall with neighbors, just the carports, it's quiet. It's within reasonable walking distance to all the shops, restaurants, etc. The shower has the strongest water pressure of any shower I've ever been in. It's amazing. I'll definitely stay here again if it's available.

Stunning Luxury Mountain Cabin - Mt Shasta

TrishaRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
First, I’d like to say that the house and land is even better than the photos. And the photos are gorgeous. Mandye was very responsive. If there was a problem she was proactive in handling it. We loved the property! Watching deer walk through the yard, the Steller Jays, squirrels… it was serene. The kitchen is well stocked. The beds and pillows were super comfortable. Mandye had all the extra touches. From high-end candles, scents within the house to all bathrooms stocked with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The furniture is solid and comfortable as well. I highly recommend!

Hikers Hollow Cabin A_Pet Friendly / Hot Tub

AlexandraRating, 5 stars6 days ago
It’s the perfect place for a city escape and to enjoy a peaceful private time with your loved ones where you feel hugged by nature. The cabin is beautifully designed, with amazing finishes, and has everything you might need. The highlight of this home is the jacuzzi among the trees, the professional chef grade grill, a fully equipped kitchen, that feels like a home away from home. We will definitely come back.

Treetop Sanctuary (esp. for EMF &Chem. Sensitive)

JerelleRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Staying at Beloved's place is unforgettable and will leave an imprint. The space itself was huge and felt like a private apartment even though it is attached to the main home. Beloved gave us lots of privacy and made us feel like the shared outdoor spaces were for us to enjoy privately. Everything was labeled, making it easy to navigate around the home and kitchen. Well stocked kitchen with utensils and cooking essentials, made it easy for us to make breakfasts and dinners at the place! I have never stayed at a place that felt so still and quiet, truly was peaceful. Cannot thank you enough Beloved for your attention to details and how you curated the space visually and energetically. Would stay here over and over again

Charming Downtown 1920s Cottage (2 Bedroom)

TamiRating, 5 starstoday
Sulena and Nothan's home was truly a sanctuary for us during our stay at Mt Shasta. We loved everything about this beautiful and peaceful home. The home is comfortable, well lit, has a beautiful wood burning fireplace, many areas to enjoy relaxing from the front porch to their backyard where we spent our free time listening to the water fountain and enjoying privacy. We would highly recommend this home for your stay. Your hosts are also easy to get in contact with and respond quickly. A gem in the heart of Mt Shasta.

Happy and cozy one-bedroom cottage that sleeps 4.

EliasRating, 5 stars2 days ago
This cozy cottage was an absolute gem! The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful with all my questions and super responsive throughout my stay. The design of the space is exquisite with really cozy touches throughout the rooms. Also incredibly helpful were the helpful tags with instructions to make it easy to use appliances and items throughout the space. I found myself super inspired by their organization of the space and now want to go home and redo my own apartment 😊. This cottage is also close to town, and has a great view of Mt Shasta if you walk a little. Also walkable is a nearby peace garden. The neighborhood is also quiet. I wish more places were like this. I can’t wait to come back to Mt Shasta and book here again.

Your guide to Mount Shasta

All About Mt. Shasta

Located in California’s far northern Siskiyou County, not far from the Oregon border, the city of Mt. Shasta sits at the base of a snow-capped dormant volcano of the same name. The town provides a convenient base for a wide range of outdoor adventures including biking, hiking, and camping. On auspicious occasions, you may spy a ring of clouds circling the peak.

In town, where the city streets are framed by the towering volcano in the background, you’ll find art galleries featuring photography and paintings that pay tribute to the area. Along South Mount Shasta Boulevard, the main drag, the shops housed in old brick buildings range from used bookstores to old-fashioned markets, as well as diners and a few higher-end bistros.

Hikers will find plenty of trails with varying degrees of difficulty around the region. You can enjoy a simple walk near the base of the mountain, or experienced mountaineers can also hire a guide to lead them up the rigorous climb through Avalanche Gulch to the summit of Mt. Shasta, 14,000 feet above sea level.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Mount Shasta

The part of northern California sees dramatic swings between the seasons, with dry, hot summers and frigid winters that cover the mountains and valleys with snow. Mt. Shasta reaches its warmest, sunniest temperatures between June and September, which is when the most hikers and mountain climbers come to town. Over Labor Day weekend, the city organizes its annual Blackberry Festival, which features live music, local wine, and blackberry treats. During the winter months, you’ll want to pack for freezing temperatures, especially if you intend to ski, sled, or go snowmobiling, and check the weather conditions on the highways before driving to your Mt. Shasta cabin (tip: bring snow chains for your tires!). During the winter, some hiking trails are closed, while others turn into snowshoe trails.

Top things to do in Mount Shasta

Mount Shasta City Park

This urban park, which spans 26 acres, sits just a mile from downtown and is more than suitable for spending a day outdoors on its walking paths, playground, and picnic areas. The park is home to the headwaters of the Sacramento River, meaning that the river starts right here in the park from a spring that comes out of Big Springs Hill.

Shasta-Trinity National Forest

Located 35 minutes south of Mt. Shasta, the 2.2 million-acre Shasta-Trinity National Forest is the largest national forest in California. There are hundreds of miles of trails to be explored on foot or mountain bike. Be sure to check out the Castle Crags, where towering stone spires and sheer granite cliffs give the appearance of castle ruins up on the mountainside. Trinity River, found deep in the park, is a great place for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing for salmon and brown trout.

Lake Siskiyou

Lake Siskiyou, just to the southwest of town, is a picturesque, sparkling lake that offers an outstanding view of the sunrise over the fir-clad hills. The surrounding area contains several hiking trails and a sandy beach. One of the best ways to experience Lake Siskiyou, however, is by paddle boarding or kayaking across its waters, and you can rent equipment in town.
