The cottage was built in 1901 and has been fully restored. It is the perfect luxury getaway just for two with loch views. Furnished to a high standard with mid century British and Danish furniture and original art. There is an open plan living room and kitchen, and upstairs there is a cosy bedroom and bathroom. The bed is super comfy and has Egyptian cotton linen. There is an interesting selection of books and games and a bluetooth speaker, so you can play music from your device and a CD player.
“Wonderful stay in a beautiful area. The cottage itself is stylishly decorated with lots of thoughtful touches, including g&ts on arrival (which were yummy and much appreciated!). The place is well equipped with all the cooking essentials you would need. Everything in the property is high quality and made our stay very comfortable. The views from the cottage are a joy to wake up to and we enjoyed a few days mountain biking around the area. Castle Douglas is only a 10 minute drive away which has a large supermarket, including lots of independent shops to walk around. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back and am already planning our next visit! It’s been an absolute pleasure to stay there.”
Get away from it all at Hazelnut Yurt, located in beautiful rural Galloway, just 10 minutes from Loch Ken. The yurt sleeps up to 2 adults and 2 kids and is set in a really special wee spot on our ten acre smallholding – completely secluded, it’s nestled amongst the hazelnut trees, by a stream, with just the birds for neighbours. Outside, you can enjoy a fire by the water or a sundowner on the outdoor seating. A picture window and woodburner mean you can enjoy the setting, no matter the weather.
“I honestly don't know how I can do this place justice...It is such a beautiful tranquil spot to stay; right by the stream so you can hear it flowing and bubbling away from your bed, nestled amongst the trees, with only the birds as neighbours. A truly special spot. The yurt itself is quirky and bright with a huge window. Suzy and Gordy have thought of absolutely everything, and more, even down to providing eye masks just in case you don't want an early morning - but I'd say get up early and make the most of it. We planned a really lazy 2 night break and didn't leave the site because there's plenty to do there (lots of walks, the burn, wee fire pits, the rec barn) but we want to go back and explore the local area because it seems like there's lots to do! Even though the weather wasn't on our side we still managed to have a great time. It's a super dog friendly place. Our two labs were in their element and we could just let them wander about off lead around the yurt. And after a swim they cosied up infront of the wood-burning stove. The toilet and shower are fantastic - really clean and quirky. You really can keep yourself to yourself here, after check-in you're left to enjoy the space as your own, but we wandered up to the rec barn and met Suzy, Gordy, Magnus, Bea, the wee Baby, and Dora. They're such a lovely, fun, considerate family who really care about making sure their guests have a good experience. We will definitely be back!”
