Florida Keys Oceanside Utopia

We spent an amazing week in the house of Kelly and Shane. The location on the waterfront is unbeatable and the house itself is super convenient, nicely remodeled and has a very cozy feel to it. We spent days in a row fishing from the dock, prepared our catch of the day on the bbq on the terrace, and caught shrimp at night which served as bait for the next day. There are great beaches, restaurants, and all kinds of day trips at hand if you wish to leave the property ;). Kelly and Shane are great hosts, with tons of tips - they clearly love the area and put great effort in the maintenance of the house and dock. They are super quick and easy in their communication and all three of us (me, husband and our 12 year old son) look forward to staying at their property again!

ABeachBungalow-60’dock w/ access to pool and beach

We enjoyed our stay and felt very at home. I had a few questions when settling in and I got responses very quickly. The house was tidy, the location was perfect and the kayaks were fun (be careful getting in the water as the rocks are very slippery). The owners recommended babyquip which was very helpful in providing toys, a crib and a high chair for my little ones.

Key Colony Beach! Bikes, Cabana Club w/Pool/Beach

This was our second visit to this home. The house, location and landlord are all perfect. The house has everything that you could possibly need and Sharon is a proactive landlord who is truly concerned that your stay is everything you hope for. In the past we have rented numerous houses on Key Colony but we'll always check first to see if this house is available first from now on.

Sea Glass Beach Bungalow in Key Colony Beach!

SallyRating, 5 stars5 days ago
Our family enjoyed our stay here. Very peaceful setting and we were able to ride the bikes provided by hosts to the beach nearby. The backyard of home offered outdoor relaxation and privacy. The grill worked great too. The home was very clean and comfortable. It is decorated so cute. All kitchen utensils were provided so made cooking meals easy. We did eat out often at nearby keys and the drive was not too far from where we stayed. Lindsey was a great host. She is very responsive and friendly. She checked in to make sure our stay was going well and gave us good info for our stay. We really enjoyed staying here and if we make it back to Key Colony will plan to stay here again. I strongly recommend staying here.

Key Colony Beach-POOL & DOCK

BillRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
John is a Super Host to us. He was very easy to communicate with. We had an issue at the house and he had it dealt with before lunch the next day. Unexplainably, we ended up leaving our fish rods in the back porch area (out of site out of mind?). John gathered them up and his wife took them to UPS to get them packed and sent back to us. Well above and beyond anything we could have expected. Our thanks to both of them.

3/2 Waterfront/Private dock/Beach & Pool Access

KelleyRating, 5 stars1 month ago
My family and I enjoyed Jennifer's place. We spent most of our time fishing on the canal in the back yard and traveling to local beaches and little towns. Jennifer's place has plenty of room, closet space, drawer space (which I love), comfortable beds and several extra blankets if needed. I had several questions and Jennifer immediately responded to all of them. I would recommend this rental for even large families as we had 8 people and were all very comfortable. Thank you for letting us enjoy your home!

Low Key in KCB. Stilt house on the water w/ dock.

LeslieRating, 5 stars4 months ago
We couldn't have chosen a better place for our first visit to the Florida Keys. It was centrally located, spacious, immaculate, and close to a number of interesting attractions. The pool, beach, bar, and shop at the Cabana Club right around the corner were well run and super clean. The neighborhood was lovely and quiet. We enjoyed being on the canal and watching the local pelicans. I highly recommend this place!

This was a repeat stay with us at Darene's place, and we will come again. Darene is great with communication and responds quickly. Her place is great! The ocean view never gets old. The beach at the condos is perfect, and the proximity to the pool is also perfect! The condo is nice and accomodating. The beds are very comfortable. We had everything that we needed during our stay, and we can't wait to return again! Thank you Darene!

We had a fabulous stay at Orchid House , the master bed was comfortable , the screen porch awesome and we loved the Morning Sun ! Fire pit was great , heads up tho , you may need to go ahead and hook up that New propane tank as the last renters likely used up the current . Eclectic and comfortable is my best description , I actually created art in this space , that was great !

Casa Tua Retreat!! Bring your boat or rent one!!

TriciaRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We loved our stay at Joe’s house in Key Colony! What a beautiful, peaceful location right on the canal. We went to the Cabana club everyday-amazing to have your own private beach & pool, and a friendly staff! We enjoyed riding the bikes provided to Sunset park and around the neighborhood. The house was well stocked and clean. I appreciated not having to run out immediately for toilet paper, dish soap, etc. Joe was very responsive, reaching out before the trip and through the week to check in. He had great recommendations for local restaurants and sights to check out. We can’t wait to come back!

Your guide to Key Colony Beach

Welcome to Key Colony Beach

Among the many islands and beaches of the Florida Keys, Key Colony Beach stands out for its white sand, small but loyal local community, and the canals that give waterfront boat access to nearly everyone in town. The main portion of Key Colony (a tiny bit of the city spills onto neighboring Fat Deer Key) sits on what was once known as Shelter Key. In the Middle Keys, adjacent to Marathon, a small road leaves U.S. Highway 1, also known as the Overseas Highway; the one-lane causeway with a small bridge provides the only road access to Key Colony Beach. In the mid-1950s, developers dredged around the island, nearly tripling its size and creating its now-famous canals. Most houses on Key Colony face one of these canals, making it easy to head out into the Gulf of Mexico or the Atlantic Ocean to enjoy the fishing, boating, and diving for which the region is known.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Key Colony Beach

Summertime is high time in Key Colony Beach. Though temperatures may spike, and the humidity can have a way of making you feel as if you’re wearing a second skin, it’s still the season that draws the most visitors. If you can get here in March or April, spring offers significantly more moderate weather and a far lower likelihood of rainfall. Spring also coincides with some of the town’s biggest festivals, including Key Colony Beach Day, celebrating the birthday of the city, and a St. Patrick’s Day parade. Fall is nearly as pleasant, with the caveat that, as in late summer, it brings the concern of hurricane season and requires keeping an eye on alerts.

Top things to do in Key Colony Beach

Sunset Park

As its name implies, this park facing Vaca Cut Bridge is an excellent place to enjoy an evening and watch the sun go down over the water. Prior to the main event each day, the pier makes for great birdwatching, including brown pelicans, ospreys, and cormorants. Walking paths trace through the park’s meadow portion; it also hosts occasional live music.

Thunderbolt Shipwreck

Dive among the rusted remains of this former Navy ship and research vessel from the 1940s. Resting on the ocean floor just four miles from Key Colony in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, the Thunderbolt was intentionally sunk in 1986 as part of a mission to create artificial reefs. Now, with three decades of growth on it — and 120 feet of water above it — it’s become home to many fish as well as a favorite spot for divers.

Valhalla Sandbar

A nice island just a short boat ride from Key Colony Beach, this sandbar has become a popular place to wade, snorkel, and enjoy the gentle blue-green waters. The shallow saltwater draws not just humans looking to float but also a fascinating array of local sea life worth watching for.
