Cottage vacation rentals in Hilo

This location was an excellent base camp for our trip to Volcanoes National Park! We were able to get into the park early in the day, come back and eat/freshen up, and go back to the park in the evening! The area is very private and quiet—exactly what we were hoping for. Thanks for a great stay!

Excellent location for a home base with lots of history and charm. It's easy to find, well appointed, clean, and the hosts are exceptional.

Fantastic little home nestled in the forest. This is only about 2 miles from the entrance to Volcano park so if you're lucky, you can run out quickly and catch an eruption!

Amazing location, beautiful cabin, lush nature, and all the tasteful details… this place has it all! We loved it so much we were about to go back a week later again!

My husband & I enjoyed our stay here. Everything about our stay was PERFECT! The aesthetic, the surrounding, the atmosphere and vibe was outstanding! We only stayed for a night but waking up to the view of a rainforest was beautiful. The hot tub was amazing especially when used at night because the air was crisp and cold. Very relaxing and peaceful. 10/10 recommend to anyone who considers staying here. We will be back!

The tea house cottage is great! Super cute and cozy and a very convenient location to volcanoes national park. Very clean. The kitchen was well equipped which was nice since the dining options in volcano are limited. Shannon is a great host. Very helpful and responds promptly. If you’re worried about the noise of the frogs at night, I can only share from my personal experience, but they weren’t too noisy and we didn’t have trouble sleeping. We brought a white noise machine and ear plugs and we didn’t end up needing the ear plugs.

Our stay at this beautiful place was magical! Was better then described and even better then the photos. The lush surroundings, the beautiful sounds of the forest and the gorgeous cottage all made for a perfect stay. We loved the soaking tub and the breakfast. We will recommend this place to our friends and we will definitely be back!

Gorgeous place to stay! Very conveniently located to VNP. The grounds were beautiful. The tub was a perk after days of hiking in the park. If we’re ever back in Volcano, we will absolutely book again. Thanks to the wonderful staff who were very helpful!

The space is beautiful, airy, open. Outside is filled with flowers along the walkway and plumeria outside the front door. Downtown Hilo is within quick driving distance. This is an extraordinary listing and I will definitely try to return!

The place was conveniently located within walking distance of the HILO downtown district, where you will find local shops and good restaurants. There are also three supermarkets within 1.5 miles and a short drive to other national chains of stores. You are also near many attractions, including the beach, all within walking or short driving distance, with easy parking. The house offers private parking, which was nice. However, there are some stairs to climb as described in the listing, so it's not wheelchair or elderly-friendly if you carry a lot of heavy luggage. The house came with some basic cookware, and with a short distance to the supermarket and local farmers' market, you can save a lot of money not eating out if you choose to stay in and spend time with family. I would 100% stay there again or any property that Jason is listing. Great Host!

Kelly’s place was perfect. Quiet, private and lots of covered outdoor spaces with lots of room. The home was clean and had everything we needed. She even had a nice notebook filled with things to know and do around the area. We enjoyed our daily walks to the ocean and met lots of people enjoying the area. I would recommend Kelly’s place for anyone who wants to enjoy all that the East side of the Big Island has to offer.

We loved Autumn's jungle cottages and would recommend her place. Great for small groups with separate accommodations. Beautiful outdoor gathering bbq area and every kind of plants. highly recommend

Beautiful spot in the jungle near the volcano. Super private, jungle hottub was definitely the star of the stay. Communication was great.

Quiet, cozy place to rest after going out. Make sure you take time to view the night sky whenever you wind down. The lava rocks and the background is a surreal experience. The kitchen is well stocked and the bathroom is clean. There are plenty of coals if you want to bbq. Bring your own water and food supplies. The only con I have is mosquitoes. Make sure you have mosquito repellents. Thankfully, the beds have curtains over them. Don’t be like me and forget to utilize that before sleeping unless you want to wake up with mosquitoes all over.

Wonderful location, well furnished, beautiful setting, super convenient appliances and cooking utensils…overall fantastic experience at Matt’s place. we had our mtn bikes and were able to bike to the NP crater rim road, the town of volcano and dirt roads (escape trail) close by.

Don’t hesitate to book - you want to stay here. This was everything we were hoping for and more. The space was spotless, hosts are responsive and helpful, and there are so many small details to really elevate the space. This was perfect for a couple’s retreat. The location is absolutely stunning, with rainforest surrounding you. We loved falling asleep to the rain every night. If you’re looking to go to Volcanoes National Park, this is the place for you. We were 5 minutes away, allowing for late night volcano viewing and beating the crowds during eruption.

Our stay in this unique jungle hideaway was an absolute adventure! From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in the sights and sounds of nature, with a wonderful outdoor camping feel enhanced by the fantastic indoor and outdoor fireplaces/firepits – perfect for cozy evenings. For those with a heart to explore, this location holds amazing secrets waiting to be discovered! We truly enjoyed uncovering the hidden gems this property had to offer. Being located just 15 minutes away from Kilauea Volcano made it incredibly convenient to witness the eruption. Seeing the volcano on Mother's Day was an awe-inspiring and unforgettable experience that was undoubtedly the highlight of our vacation. If you're looking for a truly special and adventurous escape surrounded by nature and with incredibly easy access to the wonders of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, this is the place to be. We left felling refreshed, amazed, and with memories that will last a lifetime.

We have stayed on Big Island many times in AirBnBs and this was the best. So quiet and serene for people who want to get away from city life, breathe fresh air, and be truly grateful for the opportunity to experience this perfect cottage, have the best hostess ever, and to experience the true Hawaii beauty. Hau’oli Place Tiki cottage is beautiful! A lot of love has gone into making it what it is and it shows. It’s extremely clean, comfortable and beautiful! Close to the Hawai’i Volcanoes park, this is a very peaceful and private space. You live in a beautiful cottage in the rainforest with all amenities. Like Big Island as a whole, Hau’oli Place has a lot of character. The host Mark is highly responsive, helpful and the other reason, why you should choose this place. I will be back!

A fun place for Hilo side! Just a short distance away are amazing black cliffs to enjoy the sunrise from, and you are greeted with quiet nights and all sorts of stars! Loved the outdoor shower.

Our week at the cottage was magical, the beauty and peaceful setting was so grounding, and we loved the harmony with nature. The house was comfortable and had everything we needed to feel at home. We enjoyed staying in and cooking delicious meals in the open kitchen. Our favorite place to be was out on the patio at dusk as the light filtered through the trees, listening to the sounds of nature. Shilah is a treasure, so kind and friendly, and her family is darling. One of my favorite stays for sure and hope to visit again.

Our host Noe was fabulous in proactively welcoming us to her place. The room is beautiful and clean and has everything needed for a wonderful and peaceful stay. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was very nice. So many nice touches made this a top destination. The studio is attached to the home but separated from the main living quarters by the garage, thus offering plenty of privacy. Check out the accurate descriptions for all the amenities. The best aspect of this place is the warm welcoming host who goes out of the way to make you feel at home and part of the island! The location was not busy, but close enough driving distance to many enjoyable sites and activities. This has to be the best Airbnb we have experienced.

Had fairly high expectations based on the reviews, and… still surprised at how amazing this place was. The spectacular stars. Cool quiet nights, waking to sunrise colors with sounds of island birds stirring. It’s a little out of the way, but that’s what we were shooting for. Sonja and Alex invited us to a local farmers market on Saturday, and this turned into one of the unexpected highlights of our trip that we would’ve otherwise skipped—bring an appetite and get lunches to go.
