Great base for working, visiting the area or relatives. Short walk to Essex University, 3 miles to Colchester and local villages. A practical first floor flat in Wivenhoe with double bedroom, lounge, sofa bed, bathroom and kitchen. Plenty of parking behind the flat, TV and unlimited broadband. A brilliant shop opposite, a friendly pub next door and bus stop outside with lots of other pubs and shops nearby. Nice walk down to the River Colne and have a drink or meal at the Rose & Crown.

This is a stand alone unit totally self contained with shower and toilet. Unlike garden rooms this unit has wheels and a tow bar. The (should I say) Shepherdess Hut as it was used by a small holder during lambing to be close to her flock. Not suitable for long stays. More details below in The Space. Our small orchard has 2 x cherry, plum, 3 x pear, 2 x apple, greengage, apricot, mulberry, medlar and olive. We also have two 2 x raspberry, loganberry, Japanese wine berry and our own hops

It is just a short walk to the University of Essex via Wivenhoe Public pathway. The the train station is also only 15 minute walk away through the Wivenhoe trail. Ideal for 1-2 guests, but a baby or small chid is welcome (providing that you bring your own travel cot & bedding with you).

In the heart of lower Wivenhoe on the quay, our little self-contained cottage was once part of the home of The Colne Marine and Yacht Company. Its thick brick walls and quiet and pretty disposition, defy its former role as a working yard where timber yachts were crafted and repaired, drawn up inside at high tide. Emma and Charlie welcome guests back time after time to relax and enjoy this very special place. We hope you will join them.

Mistley is a charming village (town?) and there is a view down towards the quay. The house faces the Green and it is a quintessential English village scene with the occasional local walking by. There is a pub down the lane which is very convenient. The house is beautifully appointed with every convenience thoughtfully supplied. The decor is vintage charm, and extremely cosy. I will definitely be back to explore the area further and this very much feels like a home from home. Thank you!

What a lovely place to stay. Debbie was a great host, great communication and clear instructions prior to arriving and again upon arrival. Property was as described, and we felt right at home. The hot tub was a lovely addition, which we enjoyed (even in the rain). Some really lovely, thoughtful touches throughout (thinking of the whole family) with seasonal decorations added to making our stay unforgettable. Many thanks

Fun city stay-hot tub, ping pong/pool & soft play!

We stayed for four nights in May half term and had a great time. Our party consisted of two adult friends and four children aged between 8 & 13. We had plenty of space and the kids loved the Jungle Book room. The decor and theming of the house is fantastic, everything was spotless, and the added features of pool table, table tennis, hot tub etc were a big bonus for us. We were able to spend a lot of time just enjoying the house. The location is great for exploring Colchester on foot (we didn’t use the cars for the first half of the holiday). The slight compromise was the road noise, although the hosts thought of this and provided ‘sleep kits’ containing ear plugs and sleep masks if, like us, you aren’t used to this. The hosts were fantastic at communicating throughout, and solved a maintenance issue we had on arrival super quickly despite it being a bank holiday. We would highly recommend!

A Small Retreat to the Country

We had a nice stay at Penny's accommodation. The place is quiet, private and furthermore as advertised. Colchester is nearby, the beach as well. Even London is doable in one day. Penny and her husband are very supporting and thoughtful.
