Lil Ms. Clementine-Historic District Golfcart opt.

MorganneRating, 5 stars6 days ago
Cheri’s house was perfect for our family’s annual long weekend in Cape Charles! Everything was easy to find with her clear instructions, the house was cozy and had all the amenities one could need, and we actually liked staying a little farther from the action. Everything is a short golf cart ride away and the street was quiet and friendly. The game closet was such a sweet bonus! My kids got up at 6 on their first day of summer break—go figure—and it was lovely to have some new games to play until everything opened. We already booked for next year!

An absolute dream! The Bee House was appointed ever so thoughtfully with guests in mind, from the great beds and linens, to the perfectly stocked kitchen and locally sourced gift basket, our family found everything we could ever need as arms length. The location as perfect, just steps from the park and a 5 minute walk to down town. Our stay was effortless. We all kept saying how lucky we felt to be staying here. We will all be dreaming of the relaxing front pouch until next time.

The Shore House on Madison - Pet Friendly Unit!

CarolineRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Rachel’s place was wonderful. She provided clear instructions and the house was so clean and welcoming. Only complaint is her bathrooms only had 3-in-1 shampoo, conditioner, and body wash - if you plan on staying I’d advise to bring your own toiletries. Other than that everything was wonderful!

Peaceful Haven: nature & charming town

StephanieRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
What a wonderful place and host! Pictures do not do it justice. It looks like a cosy cottage on the outside, but it is much bigger on the inside. Very clean. The first floor provides an extremely functional living space - living room, dinning area, kitchen and sun room. The couch in the sun room is extremely comfortable. The bedroom and bathroom upstairs are palatial. The two bedrooms downstairs are very cosy and have their own beautiful bathrooms. One of the downstairs bedrooms has a wonderfully enclosed porch off of it. Everything is up to date and very functional - Wi-Fi, heating and air conditioning, washer & drier, kitchen appliances, etc. And the host was quick to respond to any questions. We hope to return soon and take advantage of the outdoor activities.

Nature's retreat @ the Bug-a-Boo. Beaches nearby

SunnyRating, 5 stars6 months ago
Just spent Thanksgiving weekend at the Bugaboo. What a delightful house. I arrived late Wednesday night and quickly discovered there was no running water. With Thanksgiving being the next day, I assumed nothing could be done until Friday. However, much to my surprise, Rita and Elaine were right on it, knocking on the door early Thursday morning to let me know that water would be restored within hours. And it was! I was so impressed with the quick response and handling of the situation. Before checking out on Sunday, Elaine again visited and told me I didn’t have to rush to be out of the house at checkout time because no one was coming in that day. Again, pleasantly surprised and appreciative. The icing on the cake was that the host reimbursed me for one night’s stay because of the water situation even though I didn’t ask for it or expect it. I definitely plan to rent Bugaboo again. It’s clean, has nice furniture, a most comfortable bed, a great kitchen and a great location!

So glad we found this gem of a location and grateful to our hosts for sharing it with us! Was the perfect quiet weekend getaway for the two families that stayed, and plenty for our tweens and teens to do. We enjoyed fishing and crabbing from the dock and appreciate the generosity of the hosts allowing us to use the SUP, kayak, etc. Laura was very helpful in all communications, before and during our stay. Would definitely stay again!

Nate was very responsive from booking , all the way through our stay. He was very flexible due to our circumstances and juggling vacation with 2 young children and 2 labradors. I would recommend this home to anyone with a family or pets as it offers the interior space that cape Charles historic homes lack while maintaining the same proximity to the town’s attractions.

My family had the pleasure of renting this wonderful home, and I must say it exceeded all our expectations. The location was ideal, with both private and public beach access a short drive away. Stunning waterfront panoramic view getaway house

AlanaRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We loved our stay in Captain’s Cove! Nick was a very responsive host with wonderful local suggestions. Do be aware that there is really not much in the way of gas stations, grocery stores or restaurants in the immediate area. We knew that going in, though, and it wasn’t an issue for us. Just know you will need to drive a bit or prepare with those items on your way in (which Nick told us in advance as well!) The view is beautiful! The Airbnb is exactly as pictured. It was very quiet as well. Loved that it was pet friendly so we could bring our dog! Would definitely stay again!

Deltaville Serene Riverfront Getaway | 4BR

DanaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
This charming house is down a private dirt road. Very peaceful surroundings. Saw dolphins upon arrival. There is a small grocery store nearby. We ate at The Table restaurant less than 2 miles away. Food was great. Make sure you make a reservation. If you’re bringing a boat it may be challenging to get it down the one lane dirt road. You will need to use the near by marina to rent a slip. There is no trash pickup at the house. You must drop off trash five minutes up the road from 9-5. Beds and linens were cozy. The kitchen was well stocked. The pool was clean. The shed included floats and games. We had everything we needed for our stay. The host checked on us after check in. She was kind and responsive.

Your guide to Cape Charles

Welcome to Cape Charles

Cape Charles sits at the southernmost tip of the Delmarva Peninsula on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, a long peninsula with Chesapeake Bay to the west, Kings Creek to the north, and Old Plantation Creek to the southeast. This town of 1,000 full-time residents is known primarily as a beach destination, especially since the Cape Charles Town Beach remains the only public beach on Virginia’s Eastern Shore that doesn’t charge fees (not even parking fees!). Beyond its sandy shores, Cape Charles’ main draws include a fishing pier, an outdoor LOVE sign popular with photographers, and a historic district boasting one of the highest concentrations of turn-of-the-century homes. Originally developed as the headquarters of the Eastern Shore Railroad, Cape Charles’ strategic location also makes it a prime area for geographic diversity and bird spotting.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Cape Charles

Summer is the busiest time of year at this popular outdoor destination, peaking in June through August. It’s also the hottest time of year, often with humid days. There are plenty of things to do during this time, such as the free summer concerts and food festivals, including the Cape Charles Crabby Blues Festival and the Reel and Raw oyster festival. Spring and the early fall months may also be a good time to stay in one of the area’s rentals since the humidity makes the air feel a bit warmer. December through February are too chilly for outdoor fun, especially with the rain and snow that tends to fall four to six times a year. But the season does bring its own fun, such as Festive Fridays and the Lighted Golf Cart Parade leading up to Christmas, and a Dropping of the Crab Pot to ring in the New Year.

Top things to do in Cape Charles

Historic District

Turn back time in the historic district filled with buildings from the late Victorian, Colonial Revival, and Neoclassical styles built from 1885 to 1940, mostly in a 27-block grid with a central park featuring a pergola, gazebo, and fountain. The high concentration of preserved buildings put the area onto the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Cape Charles Natural Area Preserve

Follow the boardwalk path leading to a Chesapeake Bay viewpoint through various forested terrains in the 29-acre preserve, including the rare Maritime Dune Woodland. Birders will especially appreciate the more than 240 species that have been spotted here.

Cape Charles Museum

Run by the Cape Charles Historical Society, the museum includes an indoor section with historical relics of the area, including Chesapeake Bay steamship and ferry models, as well as an outdoor section with actual railroad cars and a recreation of the Bloxom railway station.
