hot tub and sauna on 5 private acres
This couple was amazing! So responsive, so willing to give us the best time away and to fully enjoy the little time we had! We were only able to go one night but it truly felt like 3. We are going back to work feeling reset and relaxed. Cannot wait to come back

Highland Hideaway
We stayed at James’ place for our 25th anniversary and I’m so glad we did. We were hoping for peace, nature, hiking and to be able to include our dogs. The location was perfect - so secluded, yet not far from hiking, restaurants, etc. The cabin was clean and well-appointed, having everything we needed, plus extra items in case you’d forgotten something. I appreciated the easy-going communication and would love to stay again if we get the chance!

Driftless Trout Cabin - Hillsboro, Wisconsin
Unbelievable how quiet it was at this location! The road it is on might have 1 car drive by per hour during the day, with much less cars at night. Great location in the countryside with Amish bakeries and businesses nearby. It is stocked with just about all the kitchen utensils and things you need for normal cooking, including some spices and seasonings, and the bathroom is supplied with all the necessary things, with a little more. The swing on the covered porch is excellent for relaxing, and night time sleeping, as is the couch. The firewood is cut perfectly to fit in the wood stove that very adequately heats up the place. The spring water that supplies the cabin will make your skin feel great after a warm morning shower. I was not a fan of the thought of having to wake up in the middle of the night and have to take care of nighttime bathroom needs by going up and down the ladder, so I never went up to the loft. I look forward to staying there again, hopefully during a snowstorm.

Romantic Vineyard Cabin, Sauna, Plunge Pool
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at this cute tiny home. It was a much needed get away. We really enjoyed the secluded location & the beautiful view of the vineyard and woods. There is also a fox den on the property and we saw the foxes (including baby) several times-how cool! We enjoyed the little touches as well such as a bottle of wine, donuts, a well written welcome guide, a list of their recommended resturaunts, hiking trails, ect.

Riverside Retreat- A small cabin for big memories!
This place is a great! Very peaceful and quiet. I really enjoyed fishing from the dock and catching (panfish, crappie, and pike) different types! My wife love sitting on the deck and reading books. Would recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing stay!

~Driftwood Haven Cottage ~
Took a little getaway with the lady and dog and this place was perfect. It’s easy to get to yet feels secluded, walking to Lake Michigan from there is very conventional, the amenities are great, having an indoor and outdoor fire option is clutch given we can’t control the weather, and the hot tub was perfect for winding down. Would absolutely recommend this place for a nice relaxing getaway

Cozy creekside Driftless Log Cabin on beaver pond!
So you want some peace and relaxation? Stop looking and book this cabin. Everything is exactly as described and shown in the photos. The drive to the cabin had me so happy with its beauty and then I pulled up to the cabin and just wow. It did not disappoint. I immediately texted Kara to let her know I was in heaven. The lovely welcome gifts were such a thoughtful touch. The instructions for the house along with nearby recommendations was emailed to me but there was also a copy right as you walked in if you needed it which was great! The suggestions she gave were perfect! The town we went to was only 15 minutes away and had pubs, a diner with a GREAT breakfast, grocery stores and an awesome ice cream shop. On the last day there we took the walk to the Mt Zion Pub. Be aware it’s mostly on a gravel road with some good hills. About 2.2 miles and the burger at the pub was earned and GOOD! Great cabin. Peaceful and gorgeous. Mental Reset achieved!

Beautiful 1 Bedroom Cottage Tucked Away in the Hills of the Driftless Area
If you're looking for quiet, peaceful beauty out in the country, you'll be hard-pressed to find something better than Mike's cottage. One aspect I appreciated the most is that often times you'll find what looks like a very remote place that seems like it will be quiet, but the nearest highway can still be heard a ridge or two away. Not at Mike's place: all I could hear there was wind, a few birds, and my breathing. This may not be a draw for some people, but those people probably aren't looking for a place to stay in this region. For the rest of you, check this place out. I found the bed very comfortable, and I prefer medium to hard beds. Mike was friendly and knowledgeable about the area and gave plenty of helpful recommendations about his favorite restaurants and hikes. Good TV setup as well as hookup options to play your phone audio on some good speakers (so you don't need to bring a bluetooth speaker).

A Suite Getaway
I loved staying at Melanie’s place, it was so peaceful. It’s so funny the brown horses name was Hunter, which is my husband’s name. So even though he wasn’t with me he was with me. Melanie was so thoughtful. God willing I will be back.

Skyline Cabin
Amazing rustic cabin in the rolling hills of western Wisconsin. Peaceful, serene, natural, quiet. Perfect for a quick getaway without the distractions of modern life.

On River’s Bend Cabin | Summer Getaway | Bonfire
This was our second stay (first was in October) and again we thoroughly enjoyed it. Rather than fall colors though we were treated to thousands of trillium in the woods and hundreds of ferns. We also found some daffodils and wild violets. The owls, eagles and deer also cooperated with numerous visits, along with an osprey calling overhead, a male pileated woodpecker, mergansers down on the river and two male rose-breasted grosbeaks in the crabapples (which were in full bloom). And again, the house was impeccable and fully furnished. FULLY FURNISHED -- you don't need to bring a thing, but food. The beds were extremely comfortable and, this may sound weird, but the pillows were so nice when we got home last October we ordered some of the same for our house! And we're already talking about coming back in September. Bringing the kayak on that trip though because the Apple River Flowage, and possibly Pike Lake, are calling me!! :-) Thank you again Ashley and Charlie.

Peaceful Wooded Sanctuary- with private dog park!
Emily was an excellent host. She was extremely responsive and accommodating. There was a minor issue/mix-up when I first arrived; I reached out to her and she responded almost immediately and had things resolved within a matter of minutes. The cabin has the essentials that you need but it's the outdoor space that's the real gem here. There's so much room to explore and just wander about. You can really have an adventure without even leaving the property. The place was very quiet and peaceful; very rarely did I hear any cars drive by or hear any noise from neighboring cabins. I had my dog with me and she absolutely LOVED it here. We spent most of our time outside but in the evenings and when the weather wasn't as nice, the cabin offered a comfy and cozy space for us to relax. I would definitely visit again.

Secluded in the Woods, Hot Tub
My group had the best time at Owl's Rest! The cabin is surrounded by beautiful woods and relaxing peace. We sat at watched birds and all kinds of animals on the deck most of the day and sat by the fire at night. The hot tube was so perfect and relaxing. One night we walked down to the bar and had a fantastic meal and fun environment. Everything about this cabin was clean and well appointed. It was so hard to leave. You can't go wrong with this cabin if you're looking for a quiet, peaceful, and relaxing time. Lyle is very helpful and communicative. Literally the most perfect weekend in every respect. Thank you!

Big Bear’s Den - On Lake Alexander
I think that this was our fifth stay at Big Bear’s Den on Lake Alexander, so obviously we think highly of this place. Jay always stops to say hi and to love up our dog. This time we accidentally locked ourselves out. Jay was there in 10 minutes to rescue us. We will be back again.

The Acorn of Little Sand Bay Dog Friendly
We absolutely loved our time at the Acorn! It was a perfect place for a peaceful getaway--far enough away from town to enjoy the solitude of the woods, but close enough to be able to easily enjoy local restaurants and shops. The cabin was quiet, clean, and comfortable (and expertly decorated)! We especially appreciated being able to bring our dog--bowls and treats were even there waiting for us. Kristin was friendly, always responsive, and provided a thorough list of local recommendations for things to do and see. Great host and wonderful place to stay!

The Timberjack
These are cute little cabins. Host was communicative. I was looking for a tree with key box and there was a box but connected to a bench which a neighbor helped me find. Cabins are close so would be a good spot for a group bit not too private for a hideaway. (i.e Neighbor on porch me on chair swing we were 20ft apart) Also right at the edge of town which is great for events and easy eating out but highway sound and sirens from town not a "peaceful" vibe. Cabin was clean everything you could want for kitchen nice sized table for meals. Huge tv on fold away arm. Great ac for hot humid nights and log cabins are always cooler. All said I enjoyed my visit as there was only me and the neighbor so realitively quiet gettaway.

Flaming Torch Lodge
Great location! Close to town but with a deck that looks out on the river. We were blessed with a beautiful evening so were able to enjoy the outdoor ambiance. The cabin itself is cute and cozy. A chilly morning and the fireplace quickly warmed up the living room space. Should the need arise, we would definitely stay at Katy's place again!

Bayfield Rustic Yurt 2 (Terra Cotta)
The view is magnificent. It is so peaceful and quiet. If you’re thinking about booking this yurt just do it. You will not regret it! The trail to the yurt is well marked and maintained. I have nothing bad to say about my experience/trip:)

Hygge House
It's always enjoyable having a host that communicates effectively; Kaity was one of those hosts. Her welcome note was thorough and provided all the information we needed for both check-in and check-out. The home is adorable. The massive windows in the main gathering space gave you the 'full north woods' feel. Kitchen is smallish but we certainly appreciated how well stocked it was with all the appropriate cooking utensils. Providing a drip coffee pot and pour over was a great touch; we used them both. Bed mattresses were awesome - nice and firm. We were there for the mountain biking and boy did we have fun on so many of the nearby trails. Bottom line: It's a nice place to getaway to.

Grateful Farms Cabin: Hills, Creek, Gorgeous Views
Adorable cabin in the beautiful Driftless region of southwest Wisconsin. Gorgeous view out the windows and from the firepit (especially at sunset). There's a playset and swing for kids, a small swimming hole and mowed trails to discover wildflowers on. A few friendly cats and a bunch of colorful chickens will be your outdoor companions. If you're looking for a reprieve from city life, you couldn't find a better place to stay.

Chic Loft Surrounded by Nature
The loft was perfect for what we were looking for - peace, relaxation, and disconnect from the world for a bit. This was a great location for that. This is a loft above a garage located on a country property with beautiful land/views to enjoy. Jordan is very responsive in getting back to you. His father, Hal, greeted us and gave us recommendations on what to do in the area. He was super friendly and helpful. The place had charm and even though it's in the country, there are small towns to visit 10-20 minutes away, where we found a great coffee shop. Johnson Creek Outlet Mall is close and we also spent a day in Madison - only a 40 minute drive. Good place to unwind and unplug!

Olde Wisconsin Hearth Cabin
Lori’s place is wonderful! It was the perfect weekend getaway. Super peaceful and relaxing. Lori is a wonderful host and was super responsive, and even left us some treats! The cabin is absolutely gorgeous and pristine. We would totally come back!!

Cozy A-frame on Clear Lake
Fantastic hosts with fantastic little cabin. Absolutely loved my stay. Super cozy and warm during the coldest snap of the year! Would be even better in the summer with the beautiful location, outdoor amenities, and classic cabin on the lake!

Secluded apartment at Summerwynd farmette
Such a peaceful and beautiful place to stay! Not only was the host responsive and helpful, but the setting was lovelier than I could have imagined. Waking up to have my coffee with the cows just made my morning, and the friendly cats strolling the property made it feel like home. I’d love to come back and spend more time enjoying the sauna, hot tub, and fire pit. The apartment was charming and clutter free. It was perfect.
Your guide to Wisconsin
Welcome to Wisconsin
Wisconsin offers some of the most varied and beautiful terrain in the Midwest. People from outside the Great Lakes states are always surprised to discover that the eastern edge of Wisconsin is America’s third coast, with dramatic bluffs over Lakes Superior and Michigan, massive ships docked at the ports, and placid beaches. The Northwoods, a region stretching across the top third of the state, is a stunning expanse of pines and maples riddled with freshwater lakes. In the southwest, rocky buttes and rolling hills cover the Driftless Area. There’s a reason outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, ATV riding, and cross-country skiing are so big here.
But the landscape isn’t the only appeal. Milwaukee buzzes with energy and creativity. In Madison, the state’s food-obsessed capital, the glorious farmers’ market supplies world-caliber restaurants. Whether you’re passing through tiny towns tucked amid the cornfields or eating Friday night fish fry at a lakeside supper club, it’s hard not to fall in love with Wisconsin.
The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Wisconsin
Wisconsin’s four seasons shout at you in all caps. In winter, there are snowdrifts that reach your shoulder and temperatures below the freezing point making it a good time to cozy up in your cabin rental. But Wisconsinites make the most of the season with activities such as the annual snow sculpting competition in Lake Geneva, ice fishing in the middle of the massive Lake Winnebago, or weekly snowshoe baseball games in the villages of the Northwoods. Summer is just as dramatic, a time of year when Wisconsinites spend as little time as possible indoors. You’ll find arts festivals and farmers’ markets all summer long in the cities and fishing boats on every lake. Nearly every Native American tribe hosts a powwow that brings people from all over for dancing, singing, and food.
The farther north you go, the shorter the spring and fall. That doesn’t make either season any less lovely. Every plant in the state rushes to put out its leaves and flowers in April and May. Fall comes on fast in a glorious profusion of reds and yellows — not to mention Oktoberfest celebrations all over the state.
Top things to do in Wisconsin
Milwaukee
Milwaukee has spectacular views of Lake Michigan, ornate factories and churches, and a thrumming nightlife scene. With a new symphony hall, improvements to the Milwaukee Art Museum and America’s Black Holocaust Museum, and a patio-lined Riverwalk through the heart of town, the city grows more charming every year. You can stroll along the shore at Lakeside Park, kayak on the Milwaukee River, tour houses designed by famous architects, or spend the day boutique-hopping. Milwaukee’s old nickname, Brew City, endures in the dozens of microbreweries and pubs all over town.
Door County
Just north of Green Bay, a pointy little finger of land juts into Lake Michigan. That’s Door County, whose rugged coasts and 35 islands are a popular summer destination for city-dwelling Wisconsinites. The area is rural enough to have preserved the architecture and culture of its Belgian and Scandinavian settlers. Check out the Sturgeon Bay lighthouse, the Belgian roadside chapels (and rice pie) surrounding Brussels, the old harbor at Ephraim, and the Stavkirke, a breathtaking recreation of a Nordic church, on Washington Island.
Driftless Area
If you’re accustomed to the Midwestern plains, the limestone towers and undulating hills of the Driftless Area may cause a shock: The glaciers that flattened the center of North America missed this 24,000-square-mile region. In the Wisconsin stretch, the winding Kickapoo River and the wide Mississippi have carved out their own valleys. Tucked amid the bluffs are thousands of farms, settled by the Amish and hippie back-to-the-landers. You can spend days meandering around towns such as Viroqua and Prairie du Chien, hiking and fishing for trout on the streams, and stopping to taste local wines and cheeses.
