Countryside Cottage Near NC Zoo

KimberlyRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Jesse and Abby were only a text or call away. Our stay was exactly what we wanted it to be; peaceful and private. We sat on the porch and had coffee and watched the trees sway in the breeze while rocking in the rocking chairs. We saw a couple rabbits and deer on the property. We cooked dinner together and laughed and talked in the fully equipped kitchen. We watched movies on the smart tv and enjoyed our time together. Our schedules are busy, and we wanted relaxation and privacy, and that’s exactly what we had. We experienced a relaxing peaceful stay, with everything we needed to feel at home away from home. The house is less than 10 mins to Troy or Seagrove and around 20 mins to Asheboro or Biscoe. Greensboro or Albemarle are roughly 40 mins. Thank you Jesse and Abby for sharing your beautiful home with others. We would definitely stay again.

We drove to town for a family reunion and was looking for a quiet place to stay after long days of fun with a large family. This was more than perfect. The location was serene and peaceful. The camper was cozy but had more than enough space for us. Our hosts were very friendly and responsive and really made us feel at home. Would highly recommend this spot and will revisit again in the future. Thanks again!

The Farmhouse

ElizabethRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Tina’s place was so peaceful not only because of the setting, but also because of the cleanliness and simplicity of the furnishings, and the lack of clutter. While maintaining a cozy feeling, there was also plenty of amenities including games and toys for the children/adults, loads of extra blankets and towels, a dreamy wrap around porch, and a blackstone grill that was perfect on these cool mornings. We also loved getting to say hello to all the animals including two friendly porch cats.

Adelaides{1900 farmhouse}in URE

The main reason I chose this location was the wrap around porch. It was even more welcoming in person. The beds were all very comfortable, the living room furniture was very comfortable. Everything in the home was clean and the whole house smelled wonderful. You can tell how much time and effort they put into choosing the design and decor. We were on the trails all day, and came back and felt at home, and we were able to relax and enjoy the comforts of that “at home” feeling. Hannah was very responsive to all questions & needs for recommendations. There was ample parking. Check in & out instructions were very clear. Any information we needed for the home was listed in the app, in the home book, and also on the refrigerator, so very thought out. We will be booking this same property for future stays, as we visit Uwharrie. There is a bar & grill a few minutes back up to the main road, the outpost was closed by, driving into town was not too far. The Community was welcoming.

Your guide to Uwharrie

Welcome to Uwharrie

One of North Carolina’s many lush expanses of land, Uwharrie National Forest unfurls across 52,000 acres that straddle three counties. Time slows down in these parts as Mother Nature takes center stage, with the Uwharrie, Yadkin, and Pee Dee rivers bypassing the forest and providing ample opportunity for leisurely water activities like fishing and kayaking. Uwharrie is also one of four national forests in North Carolina, located smack in the state’s center; it’s home to the mountain range of the same name, whose peaks are thought to have been formed by ancient ocean volcanoes.

This area is full of Native American artifacts and other remnants from early residents, including the Town Creek Indian Mound, a prehistoric archeological site near Mount Gilead that has helped researchers understand how the first inhabitants used the land. It’s also home to Morrow Mountain State Park, the largest known prehistoric quarry in North Carolina, with 15 miles of hiking trails and 16 miles of bridle trails. Just outside Uwharrie National Forest, you’ll find a handful of wineries, as well as several small towns; among them, Seagrove is lauded for its multitude of pottery studios, while Asheboro, Albemarle, and Troy are where you’ll find many of the area’s vacation rentals.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Uwharrie

Fall is a beautiful season in North Carolina and the best time to visit Uwharrie, as the dense forest in this part of the state promises a tapestry of colors; peak foliage usually hits in October. Crowds are also smaller in fall months than in summer, though summer temperatures are warmer for visiting the forest’s many swimming holes. If you’re coming to Uwharrie to hike, you’ll want to avoid the hottest time of summer, July and August, which also coincides with a spike in visitors.

Top things to do in Uwharrie

Badin Lake Recreation Area

Located within the national forest, Badin Lake is where locals in the know — swimmers, boaters, and anglers among them — take advantage of the substantial day-use facilities, which include a swimming beach, fishing piers, and a picnic pavilion at King's Mountain Point.

North Carolina Pottery Center

The Appalachian region of North Carolina is known for its high-quality craftspeople, many of whom display their creations at the North Carolina Pottery Center, home to one of the largest collections of working potters in the country. In addition to exhibitions and its colorful gift shop, the pottery center hosts summer camps and classes, workshops, and talks devoted to all things clay.

Pisgah Covered Bridge

One of Uwharrie’s most photographed spots is this 54-foot covered bridge, built over the Little River in 1911 for a price of $40; no longer in use, it has collapsed and been rebuilt on more than one occasion, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
