Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

Charming 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom suite located 9.5km from BC Ferries and only 4.5km to Victoria airport (YYJ). We are close to downtown Sidney, a short 15 minute drive to Butchart Gardens and 35 minutes to downtown Victoria. There is a bus on the route, but we are in a rural area and the bus is sporadic. There are plenty of beaches and hiking trails near by as well as the local golf course. Suite is attached to the host home, yet completely private with a separate entrance.

This might be the first time I give 5 stars for an airbnb and it is absolutely well deserved. Julie and Johns place was beautiful, clean, quiet, and peaceful. The privacy and natural setting was well worth the price. The hosts were very thoughtful and had the placed stocked with all that you would need for a comfortable stay. The tall trees, sounds of birds, and animal sightings (eagles and deer) made it hard to want to leave! We truly loved our stay!

Lynne & Chevy are great hosts. Friendly, warm and welcoming. The detached cabin is clean, tidy and kitted with everything you might need. Super quiet at night, we could even hear the resident owl outside. Great value for the price point. Bring a laptop for music or screen needs at night.

We were really happy with David’s guest suite. It was exactly as shown in the pictures, and check in/check out were very easy. There wasn’t a microwave, but the stove/oven makes up for it. We appreciated how compact and tidy everything was, and I found the bed very comfortable. We were happy with our 12 day stay here, and would gladly stay here again when we come back to the area.

Linda and Albert were fantastic hosts - friendly, helpful and respectful. The unit was utterly perfect - stunning view, very comfortable, and well equipped with lots of extra touches to make you feel at home. Gorgeous garden and lots of walking trails within easy access of the property. We loved our stay here, and would return in a heartbeat. Absolutely lovely in every way!

Wish we had discovered the gorgeous walk at end of road before our last day, but the place was super fun to stay at. Had everything we needed as we brought food to cook with m. (No restaurant nearby car dependent- but that’s part of the charm and feeling of being amongst only local Salt Springers and the beautiful natural surroundings). Jocelyn walks the walk and was a delight to meet. Her presence is all over the tiny home with thoughtful details everywhere. Loved staying here. Hope to be back. Thanks for such an authentic stay.

This place is everything it says peaceful and in a beautiful area lots of trails to walk and the garden to sit out and enjoy it amazing. Wish we had more time to enjoy. Close to the ferry. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat this is the place. Everything is there for you in this suite. Heidi is quick to respond to any questions and was helpful when I had booked the wrong days and changed them for me.
