Stormberg River Lodge

Wow what an experience....the scenery is breathtaking, Ric is an interesting host who made us feel right at home. The farm is remote so If you are looking for peace you will find it here. Please note access is 4x4 only but so worth it. Ric is great in the kitchen and prepared delicious home cooked meals. This cozy spot would be incredible in Winter surrounded by snow and mountains and we cannot wait to experience that next time. For the summer months you can camp outdoors, swim in rivers and waterfalls and explore caves. The walks and birdlife are very special. Ric has all the modern conveniences to make your stay comfortable. I highly recommend this spot for the adventurous traveler.

The Tree House Coffee Shop and Guesthouse Room 4

CaroRating, 5 stars2 months ago
We were only there 1 night more would have been better. We ordered lunch at the cafe to eat them and there and a dinner as well as breakfast. Dinner and breakfast was delivered to us in the room. Food was tasty and lot of it. We took a walk round the neighbourhood to stretch our legs after a long drive. The room was spot on and relaxing in the wooded glade. A very welcome shower. Everyone was helpful and Megan gave us advice for our onward route. Very useful due to roadworks with lots of "evil" speed humps to slow traffic (do them at walking pace) and varyable speed limits l was able to journey plan.
A circular stone structure features a simple wooden door leading into a dimly lit interior. The exterior showcases rough-hewn stones arranged in a natural pattern, while the sloped roof is made of corrugated metal. The grassy area surrounding the structure is well-maintained.

Merriman House farm stay

VishalRating, 5 stars5 months ago
Our stay at Merriman House was nothing short of a perfect year-end gateway. We were in the middle of nowhere yet somewhere, surrounded by beautiful farms, grasslands and dams. The calm and serene ambience here were unmatched—perfect for anyone looking to escape the chaos of city life. The breathtaking views all around were a highlight. We loved exploring the area, which had so much to offer in terms of natural beauty and tranquility. There were great fishing options nearby, making it even more enjoyable for outdoor enthusiasts. A 4x4 and outdoor gears like binoculars, drone, walkie-talkies, mud boots can make exploration much more fun. Don't forget to pack some insects/mosquito repellents. The location is far from town, it is also advisable to pack basic medicines especially those with the kids. Kelly and David were super hosts, were quick to respond and went beyond to help us everytime. Their plausible gestures made our stay even better. We would highly recommend this place.
A cozy bedroom features a spacious bed dressed in white linens, accented by a soft blue blanket. Nightstands with lamps flank the bed, providing gentle illumination. A framed artwork hangs above the bed, and a window is dressed with light curtains, allowing natural light to filter in.

Die Pastorie Self-catering - go back in History!

HermienRating, 5 stars30 months ago
Rhodes is a very beautiful picturesque small town to stay in. I would recommend staying at least a couple of days due to the long dirt road to and from Rhodes. The dirt road is well maintained but it is probably more comfortable to travel on with a 4x4. This is an ideal place to stay if you just want to be in nature between the mountains. It really is beautiful and peaceful there. Our host helped us out with accommodation at Nelson's Croft which was cozy and great for a big group. Elizma also offered to have a cooked meal ready for us when we arrived which was ideal after a long days travel.
A cozy bedroom features a spacious bed dressed in crisp white linens, flanked by two matching bedside tables with decorative lamps. Soft grey curtains frame a window, creating a relaxing environment. Towels are neatly arranged on the bed, enhancing the room's inviting appearance.

The Forecourt Luxury Accommodation & Self-catering

MartinRating, 5 stars25 months ago
A perfect high-quality safe place with a very friendly host. We stayed at the Forecourt for a night on our route from Addo to the Frakensberg are, and found this to be a very good quality accomodation. As a plus … we were unaffected by loadshedding due to a generator - so even in a cold autumn night the place was nice & warm.
A quaint sandstone cottage with a green roof is set amidst a well-maintained lawn and lush greenery. Surrounding trees and distant sandstone hills create a serene backdrop, enhancing the peaceful rural atmosphere of the Free State valley.

Tienfontein Farm B&B

JacquesRating, 5 stars4 months ago
What a gem in the Eastern Free State. After a long drive from Potchestroom we were welcomed by our friendly hosts. We stayed in a charming, beautifully restored farmhouse dating back to 1880. The views from the house were incredible with the sun setting over the mountains. What a privilege to light a fire and enjoy a glass of wine in such a serene setting. We will certainly be back.
