A simple, and humble space, perfect for those travelling on a small budget that want to explore the island
“Perfect budget spot for a few nights in Sao Tome! I was busy all day with going around the island for sightseeing and Maria's home is a great base with lots of thoughtful touches such as a wide mosquito net and a fan. No wifi but I got data in advance and no hot water but shower was very clean and nice for a quick rinse everyday. Maria is super friendly and kind, was a joy to stay at Casa Branca and talk to her!”
The house is located, by car, 5 minutes from downtown. It is near the USTP - University of São Tomé and Principe, in the district of Quinta de Santo António, the same where was the Embassy of France. This is a spacious house, with a small garden and a henhouse with chickens and ducks. Usually, meals are served in the outdoor terrace. Possibility of reception at the airport.
“Just like review comments from other guests before me, I only have good things to say about my stay at Dona Josefa’s house. Josefa and her daughter Joseth treated me just like one of their own family members. She was a very kind and loving person who cared about my well-being and safety while in São Tomé (by the way, STP is very safe!). As soon as my booking had been confirmed, she wrote me a message to let me know that her daughter would come to pick me up at the airport and where to wait, lodging information for the custom (if asked), etc. She was very quick in answering my questions. The day when I arrived, her daughter, Joseth met me at the airport and took me to do the three most important things that any first time visitors to Sao Tome would want to take care of immediately before anything else: exchange money to STP Dobras, get a local SIM card (and internet), and buy groceries at a supermarket. When I arrived at Josefa’s place that night, I got all of them done. Joseth also gave me some recommendations of places to eat and things to do/see. She also helped me talk to a local guide (who was used by her previous guests) for hiking to the base of Pico Cao Grande, including translating from Portuguese to English since I don’t speak any Portuguese. Although I stayed at Josefa’s house, her daughter Joseth would always be available in answering my questions and providing recommendations. My room was basic but comfortable and had all the things I needed for my stay and VERY clean. The house itself is located in a safe neighborhood of San Antonio which is less than 5 mins drive to the center and within an easy walking distance to the center. It’s in a quiet street but 2 mins walk to the main road where you can easily flag down a taxi/motor taxi that will take you to the center if you don’t like to walk or don’t have a car. The house was VERY clean (and also the bathroom) and well taken care off. On my last day in Sao Tome, her daughter Joseth dropped me off at the airport for my flight. In overall, I really enjoyed my stay at Josefa’s house and it far exceeded my expectation. I will definitely stay there again when I come back to Sao Tome in the future. I can highly recommend Josefa’s place to other travelers.”
The Santiago Pires family consists of 6 people, one couple and four children. He resides in the village of Conde (8 Km from São Tomé) in his own residence that is still in finishing, living in marriage since 2006. The family lives in a modest house that has a room designed to receive guests. Intending to monetize it and create a source of revenue, it intends to provide a tourism of proximity to the family in a sharing of culture and tradition.
“We absolutely loved our stay with Wilson & Mila and their wonderful kids!! Wilson speaks very well French and his wife Mila and their kids are also easy to communicate with, in a mix of French, English and after all using your hands &eyes, smiling, laughing or singing!! We were overwhelmed by the warm welcome of this family who immediately invited us for dinner although we almost bumped into their living room with our car 😊! Sorry for that again.., it was dark and we did not expect the dining room next to the entrance!! We shared some very special moments with Wilson and his family, spending New Years Eve with them and their big family and joining them for mess at a little Catholic Church! Thanks again for this unique experience!! We highly recommend to stay with Wilson if you would like to share daily life with an extraordinary special family!!”
