La Jolla is a beautiful quiet area that harbors seals and great views. Check out the high end shopping and great food with sea views in this beach neighborhood. There are often yoga classes on the cliffs of La Jolla that you can join via meetup. They also host a weekend farmers market on Sundays. Many tourists are attracted to La Jolla, so be ready for some traffic.

My Favorite Local Hangouts

Here is a list of the places I walk to often to catch up with friends.
Apothecary-esque bar offers craft cocktails & microbrews in a stylish, retro space with an atrium. Popping any day of the week, if you enjoy craft cocktails make sure to make this one of your walking stops in Normal Heights. They do not serve food, but if you are hungry you are welcome to bring food with you. There is a Chinese Restaurant, Fortunate Son, next door that does quick takeout orders. On weekends and holiday months, they attract quite the crowd that may result in a long wait line.

Traveler advice

Getting around

Motorized Scooters are a great way to explore locally.

Motorized scooters are a great way to get around the local neighborhood (North Park, South Park, Kensington, University Heights, Hillcrest and more). The scooters are in designated parking locations that you will see as you walk around. They boldly advertise which brand they are associated with on their may handle bar. You will need to download the app associated with the brand logo advertised on the scooters. You will need a valid drivers license to load onto the respective apps prior to being authorized to ride the scooters. Make sure to stay on the roads! No sidewalk riding allowed.
Getting around

Trolley, Trains and Buses are a great way to get around SD!

We have a great Trolley and Train system that branches throughout the city and up and down the coast. Our closest stations are at SDSU (Greenline Trolley) and Old Town (Coaster, Multiple Trolley and Bus lines). You will need to Uber or drive to these stations. Parking is free for many days. This is a great way to check out other coast towns and get to and from downtown during events! You should download the "PRONTO" app where you can create a virtual card. You will be able to link a form of payment to the platform and load your card as needed.
Don't miss

Downtown Pool Parties

If you’re interested in daytime parties poolside checkout Eventbrite. Hotels like the Pendry downtime throw weekly pool parties. Often there are entry fees or tickets that you can pay at the door or on Eventbrite.
