Sightseeing

The views here are incredible, and you can walk along a trail through the Chimneys and Shortoff Mountain with an incredible view of Linville Gorge. This is a favorite place for climbers but otherwise doesn't get much traffic (it's a little bit remote). Very much worth the time if you have it.

The part of the MST trail that goes through South/East Asheville has small rolling hills and is a great place to hike if you don't want anything too steep. Lots of pretty woods and a few creeks.

This is a particularly good place for fall colors, and in the late summer/early Autumn for picking blueberries.

The views from Shining Rock are fantastic. The trail markers are notoriously confusing so you pretty much have to carry a detailed description/topo map if you want to make it to Shining Rock. To Shining Rock and back is about 10 miles round trip.
