Food Scene

El Paisa is my personal favorite for a few reasons 1) they have great food, the best salsa variety, and the best Horchata and other Mexican specialty drinks 2) you can eat in or drive through 3) it’s very close to Grant Hill bungalows (on 25th and Imperial) 4) one of the servers is always singing, and I LOVE whenever he’s there!

One of our permanent resident’s Bryan told me about this place, he says the Caribbean food is great, and you can see the round, irrigated food top from your deck (aka, it’s close enough to walk to)

Very popular with the older hipster crowd: This is a San Diego establishment/ the original surf & steak joint, with mixed drinks that don’t have to try to be cool (because they always have been). This place isn’t far, you could definitely walk there, and stumble home (it’s all down hill on the way back ;), around 25th and C street, by Balboa Park south entrance. You’ll have bragging rights once you hang out there!

Everyone wants to go to the Gaslamp Quarter, because they’ve heard it’s cool. Beautiful old Victorian buildings, nice breezes from the bay, and a few trendy clubs to try to fit into—But IMO—it’s a tourist trap, so be warned. The food doesn’t have to be excellent because they tourists keep coming, when the locals won’t. Go check it out, shop a bit—, then leave 5th and head back East—eat in South Park/North Park, or anywhere on 30th street—you’ll pay 1/2 and actually enjoy the food!

Balboa Park is beautiful, with historical Spanish Edifacios along the Prado, great museums, fun parks for the kids, and right next door to the San Diego Zoo.

This is our historic part of town, most of the buildings were built in the late 1800's (hence the name). This is pretty touristy, but it's always happening later in the evening, and there are plenty of clubs to go dancing or meet people, if that's what you're looking to do. Gaslamp is very close to your bungalow :)
