  • Ruth was an amazing host, we were delayed getting to the property by over 9 hours and Ruth patiently waited for us. When we got there, we got the warmest of welcomes. Property is extremely cosy, modern where it needs to be but very authentic and original. The kitchen had everything you'd need and the look of the property and views are simply spectacular. We are already booking our 2nd visit! Than you Ruth and see you soon! Ciarán

  • Ruth was so lovely and waited until we arrived which took us longer than planned, but Ruth was very understanding and stayed up waiting for us - greatly appreciated. Alex and I had such a lovely stay. We loved the barn, we wish we too could live in it. Beautiful views and surroundings there is something magical about it, with its wooden beams and warm feel by the fire. I loved the fact you could only hear the sheep and the odd owl. It was so calming to get away from the rat race of work - so relaxing. And Ruth is so lovely ! Would highly recommend. The bed was super comfortable and the bedding was lovely and soft.

  • We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is at very mesmerising location. It had all the necessary amenities. The little one with us was fascinated by the location and the nature around the house. Ruth is a wonderful host and start from the booking she kept contact with us and even she came to meet us and say good bye. It was very nice to meet Ruth and know about the history of the place and cottage.

  • Ruth's place is fantastic. It is set in what you would envision Welsh country living. The place itself is a marvel especially how the inside is transformed into a cozy living space. Snowdonia is closeby as well and we drove over 500 miles exploring

  • Ruth's cottage provided a lovely base for us on our trip to Wales, we were outdoors for the majority of our trip, leaving early in the morning and getting back after dark. It was nice knowing we had a warm, cosy cottage to return to, and that waterproofs would dry overnight ready for the next day. Ruth was very helpful with directions, checking in etc. We cooked in cottage, and there wasn't anything that we found to be missing, and it was handy to have both a fridge and a freezer. It's in a convenient location, with a co-op and a spar (with post office) within walking distance, as well as a number of pubs and takeaways/fish and chip shops. The public car park just to the side of the property was also very handy.

  • Mike and Rachael's place is absolutely lovely and they are very kind and welcoming. The place is really stylish, clean and very cosy. We absolutely loved the use of space and the little touches like the record player, telescope, homemade Welsh cakes and farm eggs. Really does feel like you're on a private retreat. We also made friends with the lovely farm animals. Without doubt the best Airbnb stay we've had. We'll definitely go back!

  • What can you say? Heavenly! We stayed at Mouse House in February 2020, just after Storm Dennis, and not even the weather could dampen our spirits, such is this gem of a rural retreat in mid-Wales. Had the weather been better, we'd have no doubt set off on long walks in the beautiful countryside that surrounds Mouse House. But, the rain stopped play. Not that we'd complain. Mouse House is a delightful little place, with relaxing views of the ducks swimming across the pond/lake during the day, and a wonderfully warm log burner for cozy nights. We'd suggest packing a book or two, switching off all links to the outside world, and sitting back to let time pass. Although, if you do want to be connected, Mouse House has superfast broadband, Wi-Fi and Netflix on the huge smart TV. Seriously, we loved our stay and the little touches that Rachael and Mike added to make us welcome. I think it's fair to say we'll be back. Please keep that welcome in the hillsides!

  • Beautifully decorated place with stunning surroundings and all the essentials you could need thanks to the outstanding hospitality. The bed is extremely comfy and the tv and sound speakers were such good quality. Definitely coming back again 👌🏼

  • The Mouse House really is a tranquil little hidden gem and perfect in every way! The location is well away from the beaten track and perfect for some rest and relaxation, the setting is really beautiful and directions were spot on. I arrived the day after the storms and despite this, Rachael and Mike were perfect hosts, keeping me fully informed at every step. Such thoughtful personal touches really made the trip for me, the personal welcome and tour, local produce and home-made Welsh Cakes. The inside is warm and cosy and décor fabulous, lovely log burner, comfy sofa and amazing bathroom and bedroom, and spotlessly clean throughout, definitely a well deserved 5 stars! I can't recommend the Mouse House enough to anyone wanting to escape for some rest and relaxation, a romantic weekend and just enjoy the surrounding countryside. I will definitely be visiting again soon :-)

  • The Mouse House was brilliant - tucked away in the Welsh countryside, lovely little house with everything you need. Mike and Rachael were excellent hosts. Storm Ciara hit during our stay resulting in a power cut in the area but Mike and Rachael were extremely generous, making sure we still had everything we needed and our holiday disrupted as little as possible - even cooking a hot dinner for us! Would massively recommend the Mouse House to anyone looking. Thanks again Mike and Rachael!

    Vicky2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a fabulous place! Set amongst beautiful countryside in its own garden by a lake with its own decking and bbq area. Spotlessly clean and furnished to a high standard with everything you could possibly need (and more) to hand. Fresh eggs, homemade jam and chutney along with Rachaels homemade welsh cakes were very much appreciated and were all extremely yummy! Lovely friendly hosts who are on hand if needed but not intrusive in any way. A menagerie of animals including a friendly dog, chickens, cockerel and alpacas. We will definitely be returning and will be recommending to our family and friends!

    Wendy2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • You definitely have to check this little hidden gem out! It is in a secluded area but close to the shops if u need to grab food or want to eat out. The hideaway is a perfect getaway for a long weekend and is so peaceful. Rachael and Mike left thoughtful little touches such as the gorgeous welsh cakes and the welcome note on the board as you arrive. The mouse house is a must visit and i will definitely be recommending it in the future. I can imagine it is even more welcoming in the summer when you get to enjoy sitting outside amongst the wilderness. Book it now you wont be disappointed!

Calm, relaxing and characterful home overlooking the river Severn, on a quiet street in the beautiful mid-Wales town of Llanidloes. We are in the process of slowly and lovingly refurbishing the house, so some cosmetic updating still needed. Families and pets are welcome to our little home from home.
As you can see from the photos, areas of the home are awaiting refurbishment and the listing price reflects this. I will update the photos as work is completed. We welcome families, children and pets. Please be aware the stairs are quite steep and narrow and we are happy to set up stair gates if you let us know in advance. There is also a small and lovely balcony overlooking the river that you are welcome to use, though small children should be supervised here. We request a small additional cleaning fee for pets. There is a flat screen TV & DVD player in the living room. We do not have Freeview or a TV streaming service, however there is an HDMI cable and a chrome cast if you wish to stream programs to your own tablet or device and watch on the screen. There is also a wide range of DVDs available. There are teas and coffees provided andwe are happy to arrange a small hamper of snacks, milk and breakfast items, just let us know any dietary requirements.
Llanidloes is a lovely small welsh town, with a friendly community. There are some lovely cafes - The Great Oak being one of the most popular, an art gallery and art shops, a local co-op, butchers, greengrocers, 2 childrens play areas and numerous lovely walks and woodland areas to explore. Llanidloes is a great base to explore mid-Wales and the borders, with beaches less than an hour away and many areas of outstanding natural beauty surrounding us.
  • Lovely hours, quiet, restful and comfortable.

  • Emma and Dave are great hosts with a cozy home and two friendly cats to match. I was given details on loads of local hotspots and things to do. I travelled for work and as such I got wet and dirty, but this wasn't an issue as they had places to dry and store kit. Very kind and interesting people and excellent hosts. Couldn't recommend enough.

Darren is an experienced walker, and holds the Mountain Leader award, he is happy to discuss the area with you and help you with your route planning or if you wish he can lead your group. We have immersed ourselves within the community to ensure we have local knowledge of whats available to our guests when they stay. We can arrange activities for you, and speak to the providers to make sure you have the best experience you can. We have arranged group weekends and family weekends providing activities to meet their needs, you just have to ask and if we can, we will arrange it.
We are extremely rural. We do have neighbours but they are not in close proximity however we ask you respect our neighbours and don't wonder onto their land or play loud music, and if you use our campfire area you are aware that noise travels and not make a noise after 22:00.
  • It was a very warm and beautiful stay at the Bunkhouse. My friends and I texted last-minute and we were welcomed warmly. We’re MA students doing our research on the local area so it was great to speak to them about it. Lots of local advice about walking routs and spots activities in the lake nearby. We would do it again for sure.

  • Whether it be mountain biking, trail riding, walking or a central place to stay for other activities in central/North Wales then I can recommend the Bunkhouse. Hosts were great and local knowledge is great. Accommodation is as it says and clean. Breakfast was lovely. Thanks Sarah, Darren and Maisy

  • We were 5 dads and 6 kids staying here before going to the red bull Hardline line Mtb race .It was fantastic, lots of outside space for kids to run wild , Sarah and Darren catered for us incredibly well and nothing was too much trouble . Highly recommended.

  • My stay at the bunkhouse was fantastic!! I stayed for 5 nights and it was perfectly located for my needs. Both Darren and Sarah were extremely friendly, helpful and were always available for any questions I had and made great recommendations on hikes in the local area. The bunkhouse is extremely remote and idyllic. The place itself was clean, tidy, homely and huge! The showers were great and beds extremely comfy and sitting in the cosy lounge in the evening was perfect. The kitchen is fully equipped if you wish to self cater or alternatively Sarah is happy to cook (her food is amazing!). All in all, I could not rate this stay higher, it truly does feel like you are returning home after a long day out and about!

  • Sue and Roger were excellent hosts - really warm and welcoming! The shepherd hut is located in a wonderful little wooded valley next to a small stream. Watch the trout in the stream by day and listen to the owls by night. The accomodation has all that you need with a simple but very fully functional kitchen, comfy bed and a great bathroom. Amazing place to go on holiday, especially with a dog! Loads of safe enclosed outside space for the dog to explore. Good access to lots of fantastic walking. Can't wait to go return!

  • The retreat was much better than we expected. It’s completely private and fenced off. When I first saw the place, i screamed in excitement. There’s a river right next to it and it creates a beautiful sound indoors whilst you sit in the cozy hut with the fire on. Our dog Winston thoroughly enjoyed the space too. Sue and Roger are gracious hosts, very warm and they allowed out to check out late so we can enjoy the space a bit more.

    Bongi & Matt2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Superb location to re-charge the human side of life. Quiet and very cosy, especially with the log burner on. Magnificent location in the middle of trees with good walks all around. Totally recommend for those who need to relax fully.

    Chrys2019-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend here, Sue's place is a lovely quiet little secluded escape from it all, where the only sounds we could hear were the river outside the front door and the birds. We had a wonderful weekend pottering around, exploring the local woodlands and sitting by the fire in the evenings. Sue and Roger were so welcoming and helpful when we went to pick up and drop off the keys, thank you for your wonderful hospitality again, and sending extra hugs to Raven!

    Hayley2019-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Literally could not fault anything. Me, my boyfriend and his dog all had the best time. It was definitely the escape we all wished for. So cosy with the log burner too. We didn’t want for anything, everything we needed was there. Thank you!

    Alice2019-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sue and Roger are brilliant hosts. Made us feel extremely welcomed with their friendly manner when we collected the keys, then left us to enjoy their fantastic Shepherd's Hut! We had a great time and couldn't think of a better way to bring in the year 2019. The hut is in a great location surrounded by amazing nature and tranquility. Would certainly recommend staying!

  • Our time here was so wonderful, we have a 3 month old pup who loved the fact that he could roam free! The walks and surrounding areas are beautiful and the views are stunning! The hut is so well thought out and has everything you need and more with a few homely touches, (the games, cards and books were a special touch) sue was an amazing host and showed our pup so much affection which was lovely to see! We will definitely be back soon!

So much of that was due to how much thought had clearly gone into the camping experience, including a fantastic private bathroom (with nice warm shower), a comfy warm bed and a really well stocked kitchen area (including a special treat of bacon, sausage and eggs!)- we couldn’t have asked for anything more! The local area is also wonderful with plenty to do. Thank you to Jeanette for a fantastic holiday!

  • What can I say - this was a brilliant find on Airbnb and the pictures certainly don’t do it justice. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway, I would definitely recommend Jeanette’s space. We will be back again, hopefully with the doggies next time. PS if you love walking, this is definitely a great space to stay in - plenty of walking trails around.

  • Glamping bell tent in a field of your own in a beautiful area with a very decent private bathroom- for a very good price. There wasn't anything to not like. The area is stunning and if you like walking then I can't recommend it highly enough. Jeanette was the perfect host and made us feel very welcome. We can recommend a walk in Hafren forest and the pasties from the bakers in Llanidloes.

    Sarah2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved our stay, Jeanette has thought of everything and the set up is adorable. The views are fantastic and there's an endless amount of things to do nearby, we wish we stayed longer so we had more time to do more of them! The local market town is lovely and has some great pubs and we really enjoyed visiting devils falls, would definitely recommend it. Jeanette's place is amazing value for money and we look forward to staying again in the near future!

  • Wonderful, private glamping experience that was perfect for our family of four and dog. Countless thoughtful little touches that make this glamping experience homely yet surrounded by lovely views. Llanidloes itself is a cute village that's worth visiting, and many other walks and attractions nearby. Jeanette is a great host.

A Luxury, handbuilt, unique and quirky off grid shepherds hut, with a spring fed wood fired wooden hot tub and rustic ensuite shower and toilet. Set in its own little corner of a wild moorland location in Mid Wales to give couples the chance to Unplug, Unwind and Relax It has a double bed complete with a 1000 spring memory foam mattress, solar powered lights and USB charge point. The kitchen area has a gas BBQ with a side hob, sink and drainer with sink and hot water, and magical views!
Great luxury wild glamping for couples
The area is pretty and secluded, the nearest shop or pub is 5 miles away, the closest neighbours are sheep, which is fitting for a shepherds hut! There is not even a postcode for the site as it is quite remote!
  • Our trip was amazing. Obviously going in October we excepted to battle the elements a little but 10 minutes after lighting the fire the bedroom was tropical and the hot tub on a frosty night was so romantic. The hut itself had every little touch you could need and waking up there was breathtaking. If you want to disconnected with the world, this is the place. P.s don’t wear your good shoes because being a Shepard’s hunt you sometime deal with sheep poop

    Hannah & Peter2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second visit to The Hidden Hut and it’s just as fabulous as we remembered. We haven’t found anywhere so comfortable that allows you to really disconnect from the World. If you’re thinking about booking the Hut, do it! (But leave a few weekends free for us to visit again!)

  • Excellent value for money at short notice. Everything you might need for a short visit to Llanidloes, and conveniently located in the centre of town. As the listing says, the room is surprisingly quiet despite being attached to a busy pub. We didn't actually meet Francesca, but the staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the pub wasn't doing food the night we stayed, but I can recommend Evan's Fish Bar for dinner and the Great Oak Cafe for fantastic vegetarian lunches. If you like real ale, the pub has a good selection of well-kept local beers.

Please don't book unless it is in accordance with the regulations in force (which imply that you are a key-worker). If you are, and our rates our not within budget, please get in touch and let's see what we can work out
Bwthyn Bellis is a private, completely self-contained, self-catering area adjoining our own barn conversion. Formerly a cow shed, we are upgrading the main house bit by bit and Helen in particular spends a great deal of time in the garden which extends to 2 acres with a stream down one side, chickens in the wooded area at the bottom of the valley and lots of different formal and informal collections of plants and flowers. You are more than welcome to wander and enjoy this space at your leisure. This year's projects include creating a large wildlife pond, constructing a pig pen and expanding what is already a fair-sized organic fruit and vegetable garden. The kitchen with a breakfast bar and shower room are on the ground floor and up a flight of four steps through a door is the sitting room with futon, fold-away table and four chairs, bookcase with maps, guides, an assortment of board games and books and a flat-screen television. An east facing stable door takes you on to your own patio area with a table and four chairs and views across the valley and into the garden. Up a further flight of stairs is the mezzanine bedroom with a queen sized double bed and a cabin bed that can be used either as a sofa or further single/double bed. This is a comfortable, rustic and cosy space that family always scramble to occupy first whenever we have large gatherings. There is under-unit heating in the kitchen, radiators throughout and a wood stove in the sitting room. All bedlinen and towels are provided and you have sole use of a cooker, fridge and washing machine. If you need to dry clothes there is a ceiling mounted pulley drying rack in the kitchen and a line in the garden. In an emergency we have a tumble dryer in the barn which can also be made available on request for a small charge. We charge from £55 per night Sunday - Thursday, £65 per night Friday and Saturday for 2 people. Our standard rate is for up to 2 guests using one bed. There is an additional charge of £10 per extra bed up to a maximum of 4 guests
Mid wales is a forgotten jewel and this is one of the least populated areas of the UK. For a time, both of us were commuting back to England to work and we always felt peace descend as we returned to this area, approached our hills and left the busy roads behind. It is gloriously tranquil here. No traffic or light pollution and if you climb either of the hills on a clear day you will be rewarded with views that will take your breath away The nearest shops are in our busy local market town of Llanidloes, about 3 miles away. Listed amongst the five most desirable postcodes in Wales, in a report commissioned by the Royal Mail last year, Llanidloes is a fantastic little town - lovely people, good independent shops as well as 2 supermarkets, lovely pubs, cafes, restaurants, a street market on Saturdays and lots of history. Further information can be found on the town's website.
  • Bwthyn Bellis is a lovely, cosy house nestling in the hills above Llanidloes. We found the cottage and countryside peaceful and a great location to relax. We loved being able to walk in some stunning countryside right from the door and enjoyed the quirky bookshops and cafes of Lllanidloes. The house and bed are comfortable and very well equipped. Ample firewood was provided for the wood burning stove and there was an extensive collection of maps and guides that helped us make the most of our stay. Helen and Adrian made us very welcome with great advice, both before and during our stay. We can highly recommend this property!

  • Helen was a wonderful host who catered to all of our needs. Her home was absolutely beautiful and super clean! The place was equipped with everything you'd need for a short getway and the log burner was a lovely addition to our stay. I would definitely stay in this cosy little home again with no hesitation!

  • Second time I've stayed with Helen. Outstanding accommodation, very cosy house for a winter trip.

    Lapwing2019-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • Helen was a friendly and communicative host, and it was lovely to meet her on our final day. The place was absolutely spotless – a cosy and charming retreat in a really remote spot of Wales (which is just what we were looking for). We made good use of the log burner to keep ourselves warm during the cold and wet autumn nights! Pretty much perfect.

  • A beautiful location and a homely stay. This is the perfect place to rest your head if you’re exploring mid-Wales, and Helen provides such a lovely home to do so. Thoughtful touches, loads of information on the local area and a very comfortable stay. This provided me with a home from home whilst I did a placement in Llanidloes, but also served as a great base from which to explore this stunning area!

  • A lovely, quiet house - excellent hospitality - wish we could have stayed longer.

    Becky2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic accommodation, very clean, nice selection of tea and coffee (and homemade honey) provided. We were staying on a work trip so we didn't spend long enough in the home to properly enjoy the facilities, but this would make a great base for a holiday - the garden in particular is amazing.

We couldn't have been happier with our stay, and Kayleigh made such an amazing effort to make sure all was well throughout the week. This was the best break in Wales we've had, and we were saddened to have to leave for home at the end of the stay.

  • A wonderful place, beautifully decorated and well equipped. My wife kept commenting on how it reminded her of home (in a good way). Location is good, though not always possible to park just outside. Lisa was very responsive and keen to hear our feedback and make suggestions for things to do nearby. Nice little touches, like a bottle of wine and chocolates on arrival; Lisa also came to clean during our stay. The only thing that could have been better was the weather!

    Adam2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Fab property. Really clean, and a short walk into town and the gorgeous park by the river. Was like Narnia in the frost whilst walking the dog in the dark. A great base to explore the area, and many many pubs in Llani.

  • Helpful hosts and comfortable clean home on the edge of a lovely small town. Great woods for a wander or pay with kids literally a stone's throw away and beautiful river similarly close. Highly recommended for stays of any duration.

Cerniog is a recently converted stone barn set in the tranquil Cambrian Mountains of Mid-Wales. Access is from a lane and then a track through peaceful farmland. A river tumbles through the garden. Included is a traditional cooked breakfast using, where possible, locally grown produce. Simple continental style if preferred. We have one large comfortable guest room, looking out over peaceful fields, with en-suite shower room.
Cerniog is surrounded by peaceful farmland and a river runs through the wild garden providing a very tranquil setting. Most of the garden is still in the process of being created after all the conversion work and is a perfect haven for wildlife. We have developed an area of garden for growing vegetables, herbs and fruit bushes which give us fresh produce. The barn, probably dating from the late 17 hundreds, nestles 300 metres above sea level and, within a short walk, has wide views over exquisite countryside. We regularly see more unusual wildlife here. We have converted the barn, mostly by ourselves, to be comfortable and energy-efficient with "Eco" Ground Source heating and plenty of insulation to keep us warm. A wood-burner provides any extra winter time warmth.
Cerniog is at the end of a track, through 2 gates (*please leave gates as you find them*), about a mile from the village of Carno. There is no road noise, no street lights to obscure the stars, just animals grazing peacefully in the fields nearby. (We do get some low-flying training jets, which can be a surprise.)
  • Bee & Rog are amazing hosts. The room was great, breakfast was amazing and they were very accomodating.

    Kyle2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Bee and Rog are wonderfully warm hosts. They are quick at communicating and very welcoming. I felt right at home! The room was spacious and thoughtful (the small details were lovely!). The location is peaceful and the directions to the house were very accurate. I felt right at home and would return without hesitation :)

  • Beautiful cottage, amazing people, breakfast was fantastic! I can’t recommend this place highly enough!!

    Daniel2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Bee and Rog’s place was a wonderful place for us to stay whilst exploring Wales. Bee and Rog were exceptionally accommodating and very hospitable. Would easily recommend their place to anyone.

  • Hello guys, Just want to say thank you for letting us stay at your home. Thank you also for sending us Emma’s make up kit! We’re now allowed the lights on at home! :) All the best Tim, em, art and Osc

    Tim2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Bee and Rog are exceptional hosts! We arrived later than expected, but they still waited for us, offered us a late night snack, and stayed up to chat with us about our trip. They cooked us a delicious breakfast and made us feel right at home. We chose their home because it was close to The Forest Experience Rally School. While I went rallying, my wife stayed at the barn, where Bee and Rog offered to take her for a lovely walk through the countryside. When I returned from rallying they were genuinely interested in my experience and wanted to hear all about it! They are a lovely couple and made our time there unforgettable.

    Ramon2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely phenomenal place, really off the beaten track, but that was what I wanted, such an amazing couple who made me feel very very welcome. I hope I am working around there again as I would love to have the opportunity to stay longer, thank you both.

    Graham2019-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you very much for a memorable stay. Bee and Rog were fantastic hosts who made me feel welcome like it was a home from home. The room is stunning and there is a good selection of teas and coffees. There is a good selection of books too and plenty of places in the room to sit and relax. The location is perfect. Far enough for tranquil because I was surrounded by amazing countryside, and a river flowing. It is also close enough (about 30 minute drive) to Machynlleth, Llanidloes and Newtown for shopping if you like. The breakfast was fantastic and the kitchen is a lovely place to be. Bee and Rog have done an incredible job with the nice touches of creativity in their home. The best thing about this B&B though is Bee and Rog. Their hospitality was exceptional because they were both friendly, helpful and professional. I have been very fortunate to find this place and I cannot thank Bee and Rog enough for such a memorable stay.

Converted 19th century chapel to very comfortable specification, open plan and double height space to relax after walking, cycling, hiking, touring or popping down the shooting range or pub. Four bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, downstairs loo & utility, sofa bed, sofas and plenty of dining space in main room or at breakfast bar. Rangemaster double oven. Rear garden for relaxation where sun sets. Solar heating, underfloor downstairs and highly insulated & draft-proofed Weekday lower rates available
Primarily it's a vast, open plan space. The original chapel was imperial scale 36 x 48 foot. For families it's very comfortable around the sofas, or activities at the central dining tables. No corridors so that means you perhaps, have less privacy it gives a crisp open space. All bedrooms at the rear of the building facing the garden and farm. Room with bunk beds also contains a cot.
We have signposted walks round the village, of course you can go further! The local pub is a pleasure for drink, food and interesting events (sheep shearing in the car park, etc)
  • We booked Robert's Chapel for Joint Family Birthdays & what a great venue it was. The weather could have been better but regardless of the outside conditions we were snug inside without so much of a creak coming from the solid old building. You would assume it would be cold inside such a vast space but just the opposite once the heating had fired up, The first night we put the wood burner on & sat in the lounge laughing & enjoying each others company into the wee small hours & didn't move too far the following day, You could spend hours reading the many framed memorabilia a person of my age could relate to. I would wholeheartedly recommend for groups but treat it with respect.

    Neil2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Second visit to Robert's place and once again throughly enjoyed it. We look forward to staying again in the future!

    Kevin2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay. Directions were perfect and check in was simple and easy. We loved looking around the beautiful building and were intrigued with all of the interesting items and collections! There was plenty of space for eating, socialising and playing games. We enjoyed going to the local pub for tea which was great value and going to lovely walks in the local area. Would recommend this place!

    Lizzie2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Very eccentric different place to stay. Very clean with a great host. So much space and has everything you need! Great time.

  • Beautiful house, clean and wonderful host!

    Maisie2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Roberts place is absolutely fantastic. Robert is a great host - kept in contact and responded very quickly to any questions. The house is lovely - really well stocked, and such a great layout. Such a big space which was perfect for a family get together. Thanks for such a lovely stay!

    Josie2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous space for a group reunion/get together - full of quirk and wonder. Common area and dining is totally perfect for a social gathering. Beautifully converted chapel - great kitchen amenities and big oven and fridge. You'd have an amazing table for a large roast or xmas dinner or sharing tapas. Best to cater for yourselves and have drinks at the bar type space as the village pub has restricted kitchen opening and space and availability and is not anywhere as nice an environment as the home. Newtown is further away than you think and none of the Indians in Newtown deliver that far so you've only really got a Chinese or a chip shop about 4 miles away. We opted to self cater and stay in as was a much better option for us. The walls are covered with music memorabilia (& more) which was fascinating if you like that kind of music but still interesting if not! Robert is great at getting back quickly with info and local knowledge. All 8 of my group would go back.

  • A wonderful trip to a beautiful part of the world. Made perfect by Romy. She was very welcoming and friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We have a lovely time. Thanks! Xx

    Dave2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • We booked all three of Romy’s houses that make up Tyddyn Retreat, to get the family together to celebrate my father’s birthday. The location is spectacular, the houses (Farm House, Upper Barn & Lower Barn) are really special and Romy is a wonderful host. There was plenty of room to all eat together and the kitchen is exceptionally well stocked. The kids loved being able to watch films in the tractor barn cinema and we all loved the tipi and stone circle fire pit. Thank you Romy 😀

    Susanna2019-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • Romy puts the 'super' into Super Host. She was so helpful with everything and even found us a garage when we had car trouble. Thanks Romy!

    Delphine2018-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful surroundings, magical for our 4 year old to explore. The materials used in the barn have a calming, restorative feel. The accommodation was comfortable and the kitchen had every appliance we could need. We all enjoyed waking up to birdsong!

    Jake2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • If you go through Llanidloes or its surroundings, this accommodation is perfect for one night or more. Rhian is very warm and welcomes you physically. Do not hesitate to ask him how the heaters and the gas fireplace works because we did not succeed and our night was slightly cold. Other than that everything was clean, there is all the necessary equipment and even eggs, cheese and butter at your disposal.

    Lucas2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem of a place, ideal location, stylish, well equipped extremely clean. Rhian is such a friendly host.

    Alan2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Well situated in the middle of town. Don’t be put off by the word flat the accommodation is very spacious, very tidy and clean. Rhain is welcoming and puts a few basic items in the fridge ie milk, Cheese and eggs from the farm. Rhain rule is no shoes in the flat to help look after the carpet so remember to pack your slippers or what ever you usually wear at home. I felt very comfortable staying here. The bed was extremely comfortable in the bedroom I used which was located up a flight of stairs. The bedroom was looking over the street. So please be aware that you can hear people voices especially if they are outside the pubs. However it all quickly goes quiet once the pub closes. I would recommend this place to stay and would definitely use the flat again.

  • The best hosts I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I highly recommend anyone who wants a relaxing getaway from it all holiday. We will be going back in the future.

  • An absolute gem situated in a lovely forest. Sarah and Craig went out of their way to make us feel at home and provided a lovely location to stay for the week. Everything about the accommodation was great and the log fire on the cold night's was a definite winner. Will definitely be back soon.

    Paul2019-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely quiet place, and exceptionally friendly hosts who helped us settle in and explore the local area. She also makes a wicked curry for that evening when you don’t want to cook! Thanks

  • Lovely little lodge in a beautiful secluded spot. The main living area is really spacious with all you could need and a lovely log fire. Bbq on the patio and a lovely spot to sit and relax.

    Caroline2018-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Our group of two brothers and sisters and our dog Marley were warmly welcomed by Sarah and Craig. The cottage is lovely in a stunning location in the middle of the forest. There were fresh flowers and Welsh cakes (that were delicious!) Ieft out on our arrival which was a nice touch. Craig showed us around their wood powered eco heating system and water filtration unit which was very impressive. Never seen anything quite like this before. If you like wildlife then this is definitely the place for you. There were loads of birds to see out of the kitchen window including a woodpecker that kept on showing it's face. We arrived on the Friday and were due to leave on the Sunday but it had snowed a lot overnight. Whilst leaving there was quite a steep hill that my car couldn't manage and within minutes a local gent from the bunkhouse came out with snow shovels and salt. We managed to get my car onto a flat, safe spot and then Craig arrived with the local farmer. It became apparent that we weren't going to be able to leave until the next day and Craig insisted we come back to Cwmbiga and stay another night. We settled back in and then Craig knocked on and said he was cooking a lamb dinner and would we like to join him? This was a pleasant surprise as we hadn't much food as we'd planned on going. We gratefully excepted and enjoyed a lovely dinner. Top marks to the chef. Top man too. The next day Craig and the farmer, with the help of a tractor cleared the way to the main road, towing us up any slippy parts so that we could safely make our way home. Absolutely heroic effort from the locals of the Hafren Forest. Would 100% recommend this beautiful place to everybody and cannot wait to go back. Thank you for everything you did for us.

  • We had a lovely time staying at the Shepard’s Hut. Would recommend trying it. Really felt like we escaped and would love to stay longer next time.

    Faye2018-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • The Shephard hut beat all expectations. The hut had everything you needed and the book of recommendations was a lovely touch. The showers were in good proximity and were very clean. Couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay in Carno and it was fantastic value for money.

    Katy2018-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here as we had a rally experience booked in Carno. We picked it due to the proximity but would go back for the peace and quiet (once you tune out the sheep), gorgeous setting and great selection of huts/tents. The road to the site is a single track lane but very quiet. We walked from the site up to the windfarm on the hill which was a bit of a hike but well worth the views. The shower block is very clean and modern with great showers. Not what you expect from a field. The site is not crowded and each plot has plenty of space between. The shepherds hut is a sweet little space in a very private section of the site, surrounded by trees. There was plenty of sun during the day and a fire pit for when it got chilly. We had a great break away and are looking forward to going back.

    Michael2018-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • The Shepard's hut was amazing!! It was picturesque and the entire site was excellent to explore. Russell greeted us nicely and provided great tips for the local area. Only disappointment was that we only stayed for one night, next time we will need to stay for much longer!! Highly recommended!! :-)

    Jaydip2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Cledan Valley is magical. We had a wonderful few days. The location is perfect: totally secret valley abundant in wildlife, with each pitch on the site in it's own discrete and private wonderland. The Shepherd's Hut is delightful: efficiently and cosily heated by woodburner, thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed. Even logs are provided on an honesty basis, and there is a private fire pit outside every holiday home. Russell and Karen have created a glorious glamping site, working respectfully with nature to make it comfortable and welcoming. With it's roomy, warm and comfortable communal yurt, complete with sofas, board games and a big dining table, you can cater for the whole family, from babies to elders. The sparkling clean showers and toilets are accessible for all and water is hot and strong. You can wash up at the communal station, again with boiling hot water available, a daily supply of frozen ice blocks for your cool box (provided) and comprehensive re-cycling. They've even planted pots of fresh herbs which you can use. Solar fairy lights and well thought out lighting. My partner and I had the perfect romantic break here, surrounded by rolling hills, watching the sunset and the blanket of stars. A short drive to Macynthlleth and The Centre for Alternative Technology for inspiration, and half an hour to Abderdovey, boats, dunes, beautiful beaches and sea. We love Cledan Valley. Wish we could go back there right now.

    Rachel2018-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • If you're considering staying here, then please do it! It's magical and I can't wait to return. The Hut itself was warm, clean, beautiful, well equipped and set in a perfect secluded location beside a lovely river. The private fire pit and picnic bench was great and having the communal yurt and bonfire area is such a bonus! Waking to hear only birds singing in a beautiful valley was a real treat. Can't recommend this site enough, and communication was great throughout. Thank you! :)

    Glm2017-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Really spacious and comfortable hut on its own private patch within a small campsite. The other accommodation (only 8 in total) is a quirky mix of tipis, yurts and bell tents with lots of individual picnic spots and tree swings to discover. Great communal living space with BBQ. Shower block is small but very clean and tidy with a good shower. Recommend taking wellies or shoes you don't mind getting wet as it's a bit of a walk to the shower block and the grass was wet even though it hasn't rained much lately. All part of the adventure of 'getting away from it all'. Beautiful surroundings and a great walk up the hill to a windfarm on top with stunning views. Will be back for a longer stay.

    Marie2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic overnight stay in this cosy hut. It was everything we hoped for. Peaceful location in its own field apart from the other tipis and yurts on the site. Toilets and Showers are a short walk away but that just added to the experience. Russell and Karen provided great communication and I would thoroughly recommend to other travellers.

  • Such a beautiful home, in a magical location! Thankyou so much Ruth and we hope to come again

    Joel Mark2018-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was beautiful and exceeded our expectations. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were cozy and comfortable. We especially loved the garden which is very well maintained. The cottage is a stunning, very remote location and there are lovely walks right outside the doorstep. Ruth was a lovely host and she showed us all there was to know about the cottage.

    Clemens2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Cwmmegan Cottage is a beautiful place to stay. We stayed there for 2 nights, the directions were easy to follow. If you want some isolation not too far off the beaten track, this is the place to stay. The cottage is set in it's own hillside gardens which opens out onto hills. The cottage is well equipped with everything you would need, including an open fire. Ruth was very welcoming and helpful. We will definitely be returning.

    Nuala2018-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice and characterful house. It is very remote so perhaps best suited to a stay where you dont go on trips everyday. So so peaceful and a really lovely garden. Highly recommended

    Kester2018-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had the pleasure of being Ruth's first Airbnb guests, (hence no previous feedback). Rest assured the cottage is fantastic! Ruth, (a true character) met us on check in and couldn't have been more helpful. We were shown around the cottage and all the relevant amenities were explained. Ruth gave us a rundown of the history of this 16th Century gem nestled in a little valley above the village, the cottage has an intriguing history and has been carefully renovated to ensure the character is protected and modern amenities added without compromising the integrity and charm of this very original quirky cottage. The cottage was lovely and warm and lighting the fire in the evenings created a cosy homely atmosphere in the lounge area. The setting is perfect, located at the end of a private road and surrounded by a beautiful garden set around a rambling stream. The sun room looks out over a local farmer's fields and the wooded valley is full of wildlife. The children enjoyed looking at the the starscape at night as there is hardly any light pollution in the area. I will definitely try and free up some time to visit in the summer. Thanks for a fabulous stay!

Our place is 1 mile out of Llanidloes, an area with much to offer - the sea, the hills, the Elan valley, CAT, close to Hafren forest the source of the Severn, Severn way cycle routes 8 and 81. Elan valley within easy driving, steam railways at Welshpool & Devils bridge. You’ll love our place because we can see the stars and there's hardly any traffic. Our place is good for vegetarians, vegans, couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers, walkers bikers and cyclists.
We have 2 rooms, 1 double with ensuite, and twin room with adjoining bathroom. On the cooler evenings sitting by the log burner is a pleasant relaxing way to end the day. Or you can enjoy the sitting space within your room. Clear nights reveal so many stars to gaze at in the peaceful countryside. We can offer vegan / vegetarian evening meals with prior notice. Although we feel the space isn't suitable for young children because of the wood burner we do have a travel cot for young babies.
We live near the River Severn and can just step out of our gate into the countryside where there are many walks some more strenuous than others. Aberystwyth is 30 miles away, CAT about the same. Hafren forest just 5 miles up the valley as well as the Elan valley where there are cycle paths around the lakes and dams. There are a couple of steam railways within easy reach.
  • Excellent location and lovely rooms very well equipped. Off road parking, delicious breakfasts and very hospitable hosts who made our stay perfect. Highly recommended.

  • Absolute gem of an airbnb. We didn’t feel like guests, we felt like loved family members. A really lovely couple, with interesting and engaging conversation. Outstanding hospitality; they couldn’t do enough to help, even helped us clean our bikes and shoes. The house was spotless and homely, excellent quiet location. A beautiful and very calm and friendly dog. Five star stay!

  • Susanne and Steve were great, welcoming hosts - we stayed for one night before heading further north. Directions getting to their place were clear, the room was very comfortable and an organic vegetarian breakfast was a very welcome start to the day!

  • A really lovely and comfortable room a short way from Llanidloes. It was perfect for us because, although a short way from town it is right alongside Sustrans cycling route 8, which we were following. Susanne an Steve were brilliant hosts and looked after us extremely well, providing us with a prearranged evening meal and an early breakfast. We very much enjoyed their company while we were there.

  • Russell and Karen are the perfect hosts, so welcoming and helpful during our stay. The Otter Bell Tent was the perfect sized plot for me, my husband and our daughter but could comfortably take an extra couple. So lovely to be around nature with no technology. A perfect trip of food, games, exploring and making memories. Thank you so much, a real hidden gem of Wales, we will return :)

  • Such a great location absolutely beautiful and So secluded, relaxing and magical a spot to stay. The little hut to cook under and eat was a lovely addition especially when it was raining, it was really comfortable and dry. So many things for kids and adults to enjoy with the communal yurt with trails to follow, games to play and cosy fires to warm yourself with. Really lovely. And the Machinations cafe close by was great when you have a baby and want a decent breakfast! Go stay!

  • Romy's place is enchanting. Everyone single guest loved Romy's place and we all found something special about it for ourselves. There are a huge number of fire places to get cosy around, a really well equipped kitchen and clean, simple and accessible bathrooms. I would highly recommend Romy's place and we were soon discussing if and when we might be able to return!

  • Just back home after spending a wonderful 5 days with Romy & her dogs Dylan, Bobby & Cwtch. Where do I start? What an absolutely beautiful place this is! From the minute we arrived, I told Romy the pictures don't do this place justice because it is simply amazing!! From the main road, driving up to the retreat through the sheep fields is like a little adventure in itself but so easy & accessible too & the kids loved it! The retreat really is set "in the sticks" so if you're looking for somewhere to relax away from every day life, then box 1 is ticked already; as will all the other boxes be ticked on your list too. We stayed in the lower barn for 4 nights, 2 adults, 2 boys (10 & 12 yrs) & our Border Terrier & it was such a great place to stay with literally everything we could think of inside. So comfortable & clean with lots of small little touches. Romy really has thought about everything from the Crog Loft ambiance to the toilet paper :P It was a home from home! Outside is just as amazing too. We spent time outside BBQ'ing on the decking, relaxing in the gardens & at night up in Tipi, the Stone Circle & the lower Fire Pit toasting ourselves in front of the fire! This was great fun with 2 boys learning new outdoor skills with their Dad. The views of the Cambrian mountains are fabulous too! The Tractor barn is fantastic also with lots of fun activities for the kids & the adults. We enjoyed the private cinema, playing games & relaxing when we weren't out exploring the nearby sites of Aberdovey, Aberystwyth, Machynlleth & the other idyllic villages. There is a shop 5 minutes down the road for the necessities too. Best of all though, the credit goes to Romy who makes this retreat such a lovely place to stay. So friendly, knowledgeable & accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble & contact was maintained from the moment we even thought about booking to the moment we checked out. Romy is usually on site to help out when needed & always popped by to say hello & offer some local advice which came in very handy. We can't thank Romy enough for her hospitality & we are definitely 100% going back to visit with more family & friends to stay again soon. Thank you again Romy. Shell, Steven, Jayden, Louie & Olly the dog :)

  • Hi Romy, you put a smile on our faces when we arrived after a long drive ! Wonderfull place with a wonderfull host in a wonderfull environment. :-) The cottages have been renovated with care and attention and with quality materials. We really felt like home. There is a lot to experience in the surroundings of Tyddyn Retreat and Romy has given great tips! We will definitely be back to Explorer even more!

  • We spent 3 days in the Upper Barn, the place was lovely, especially the grounds around the property, which were great for walking the dog. We particularly enjoyed having a BBQ in the garden whilst watching the sunset over the hills. Romy was very helpful and accommodating, and she let us check out late, which was really appreciated.

    Lenka2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • We booked all three of Romy’s houses that make up Tyddyn Retreat, to get the family together to celebrate my father’s birthday. The location is spectacular, the houses (Farm House, Upper Barn & Lower Barn) are really special and Romy is a wonderful host. There was plenty of room to all eat together and the kitchen is exceptionally well stocked. The kids loved being able to watch films in the tractor barn cinema and we all loved the tipi and stone circle fire pit. Thank you Romy 😀

    Susanna2019-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • If your looking for a relaxing chilled break with breathtaking views this is the place. There are also so many places to visit if your happy to drive to them, stunning area. Romy is always on hand if you need her for anything. The girls loved the games cinema room and toasting marshmallows on the fire pits. Will definitely return.

  • We had a fantastic stay at the cottage in Carno. Location was perfect. The cottage was better than shown in the photos which made it even better. Very modern, clean and comfortable. The hospitality that is provided at this retreat is truly amazing! Not only did Romy arrange a beautiful 60th birthday cake, she also personally helped us fix our flat tyre! The cottage was magical and spotless. lots to do even when raining! I would highly recommend this cottage!
